Definitions
- the invention relates to the field of workshop or site equipment. More particularly, the invention relates to a portable workbench.
- An electrical technician (or other), as part of a maintenance or troubleshooting on site, generally needs to move with documents, a laptop computer as well as tools and equipment. It also needs on-site provisions allowing its effective and safe installation for the duration of the site; its installation must allow it to intervene between a few hours to several days depending on the nature of its intervention. However, an industrial production unit generally does not offer good provisions for an effective and safe installation of the intervention technician.
- the patent document US 5,452,908 discloses a portable workbench on wheels.
- the workbench includes a chassis, a hinged and foldable panel mounted on the chassis and a small storage box for tools.
- the solution is interesting in that the workbench includes a folding table, facilitating transport and allowing the technician to settle down with his equipment, stored in the small chest. This workbench, once folded, remains large and seems unsuitable for after-sales service and maintenance work in all types of environments, tertiary or industrial.
- a portable workbench is described in the document US 2012/217727 A1 .
- the invention aims to propose a solution to overcome the disadvantages of the prior art, in particular of the above-mentioned prior art. More particularly, the invention aims to propose a workbench solution which is easily transportable without compromising its robustness, and of economical construction.
- the subject of the invention is a portable workbench comprising: a foldable frame; and a main panel, forming a work surface, removably mounted on said chassis; remarkable in that the workbench, in the mounted position, has a rigid upper framework of square or rectangle shape; the panel comprising first opposite elements front and rear of said framework and the frame comprising second opposite elements of left and right of said framework, linked to said first elements; and in that said main panel comprises first and second rigid working plates, said first elements each comprising a first and a second sub-element fixed under said first and second working plates, respectively; said main panel further comprising pivot axes connecting the interior ends of each of said first and second sub-elements, said axes being arranged so that said interior ends are joined in the assembled position of the workbench and are suitable to pivot upwards for folding the panel for dismantling the workbench.
- the rigid upper frame is understood to be formed only of the first front and rear elements as well as of the second left and right elements linked to said first front and rear elements.
- the rigid upper frame is understood as capable of resisting a mass deposited on the work surface and exerting a force in the direction of gravity.
- the ends of the second elements on the left and on the right extend over less than 20% of the length of said elements, which is favorable to the distribution of the load forces on the frame.
- the rigid upper frame is preferably metallic.
- the rigid plates can be made of wood, for example in multiplex, of thickness between 5 mm and 25 mm; other suitable materials can however be used, the rigid plates can for example be made of sheet metal, stainless steel and rigid polymer.
- the upper rigid frame of the workbench may extend along the periphery of the panel.
- the main panel in the position mounted on the chassis is configured to support a maximum mass of the order of 50 kg, 70 kg or up to 100 Kg, distributed over the surface.
- the first and second sub-elements comprise internal contact edges, the internal ends of each of the first and second sub-elements being contiguous at said internal contact edges in the assembled position of the workbench.
- the first and second sub-elements are metal sections of square or rectangular section and / or the second left and right elements are round or oval metal sections.
- the first and second sub-elements with a square / rectangular profile have sides of length between 20 mm and 60 mm.
- each of said first and second sub-elements comprises plates for mounting the pivot axes, said plates extending vertically and comprising lower projecting portions. said first and second sub-elements and provided with an orifice for accommodating said pivot axes.
- the pivot axes are level, in the vertical direction, of the lower sides of the first and second sub-elements.
- This measure of the invention is advantageous in that the lower sides of the sub-elements come into contact by pivoting in the disassembled position of the chassis.
- the contact edges of the first and second sub-elements of square section have chamfers on the lower horizontal portions of said section, so as to form V-shaped housings for the pivot axes.
- two rigid plates extend over more than 50% of the extent of the panel, preferably more than 70%, more preferably 100% of the extent of the panel; the space without rigid plate fixed to the front and rear elements of the frame that can be filled with an additional removable rigid plate.
- the workbench comprises coupling means which ensure the connection of each of the outer ends of the first elements to the corresponding ends of the second elements.
- the coupling means are advantageously composed of housing, for example by shoe, and clamping tab made on the first opposite elements front and rear.
- the coupling means are made by collar or by clamping toggle.
- the coupling means are quick-release means to facilitate the removal of the removable panel.
- the workbench comprises means for main locking of at least one of the two pivot axes, preferably of each of the two pivot axes.
- the foldable frame comprises in the mounted position of the workbench, a rear frame extending vertically along the rear element of the framework and having at each of its horizontal ends a vertical pivot axis receiving a lateral frame, the second elements of the upper framework forming the upper elements of said lateral frames.
- the chassis as such, once mounted, thus describes a U-shape which includes only, structurally, the vertical elements formed by the rear frame and the two side frames.
- each of the side frames is provided, at its base, with two steerable wheels with brake for the movement of the workbench.
- the portable workbench is thus mobile and can, for example, be used as a servant.
- the rear frame and / or the side frames are produced by mechanically welded assembly of tubular elements.
- These tubular elements may have a round section with a diameter between 20 mm and 40 mm, or an equivalent oval or square section.
- the rear frame of the chassis comprises two half-frames and a vertical central axis of pivoting of said half-frames, said rear frame comprising, preferably also, auxiliary locking means of said central axis vertical.
- the rear frame of the foldable frame comprises upper and lower horizontal elements, the vertical central pivot axis being formed by a vertical central rear hinge on each of said upper and lower horizontal elements.
- the vertical central axis of pivoting of the rear half-frames is arranged for pivoting of said two half-frames towards the inside of the workbench.
- the frame has a W shape during its folding.
- the chassis in the folded configuration has substantially the same external dimensions (length - width) as the main panel. in folded form, so that a rigid working plate. This measure facilitates the storage of folded chassis and panel (s), for example in a transport case of suitable size.
- the rear half-frames and the side frames are of width between 400 mm and 1000 mm, preferably of the order of 600 to 700 mm. They can be of identical width, which reduces the size of the chassis in the folded position.
- the height of these elements can be of the order of 700 to 1000 mm.
- first and second rigid plates of the panel are square in shape with sides of length between 400 mm and 1000 mm.
- the workbench further comprises an anti-theft system comprising fixed shutters extending along at least one of the side frames and / or of the rear frame, preferably along each of said side and rear frames, and opening elements pivotally pivoted along the vertical front elements of the side frames.

- the lateral frames include horizontal lower elements facing the second upper elements, the auxiliary panel being locked to said horizontal lower elements.
- the measures of the invention are advantageous in that the workbench is portable and robust. Indeed, the square or rectangular frame allows to support a large load placed on the panel of the workbench. The craftsman can therefore work heavy loads. Thanks to the adjustable wheels, the workbench can be easily moved to another workstation, or put in a room separate, allowing the craftsman to isolate himself to sit down and do administrative tasks.
- the panel is foldable and easily removable from the chassis as well as simple construction which makes it economical. Very good compactness is achieved in particular with a foldable W-shaped chassis, greatly facilitating transport by van or car.
- the figure 1 is a perspective view of a portable workbench 2 in the mounted position according to an embodiment of the invention.
- Workbench 2 includes a chassis 4 and a main panel 6 mounted on the chassis 4 to form a work surface 8.
- the main panel 6 comprises two rigid working plates 12 and 12 ′ as well as first opposite rigid structural elements before 10 and rear 10 ′ which are fixed under the two rigid working plates 12 and 12.
- the foldable frame 4 comprises second opposite elements from the left 14 and from the right 14 'which are linked to the first elements 10 and 10'.
- the front 10 and rear 10 ′ elements linked to the left 14 and right 14 ′ elements form an upper rigid frame 16 of the workbench 2 which can be seen in broken lines.
- the upper rigid frame 16 of the workbench 2 extends along the peripheral contour of the panel; it can extend away from this contour to, for example, increase the work surface.
- the distance of the elements 10, 10 ', 14 and 14' of the framework will preferably be of the order of 30 to 40 mm from the respective edges of the panel 6.
- the first elements 10 and 10 'each include the first 18 and second 18 'sub-elements which are fixed under the first 12 and second 12' rigid plates, respectively.
- the first 18 and second 18 'sub-elements are connected at their respective interior ends 20 and 20' by pivot axes 22 and 22 '. You can see the pivot axis 22 at the figure 3 illustrating a side view of the main panel 6 disassembled from the chassis and semi-folded.
- the pivot axes 22 and 22 ' are arranged so that the inner ends 20 and 20' of the first and second sub-elements 18 and 18 'are joined in the mounted position of the panel on the chassis.
- the direction "upwards" is understood when the panel is mounted on the chassis.
- the workbench 2 may include coupling means 24 and 24 'which ensure the connection of each of the outer ends 25 and 25' of the first front elements 10 and rear 10 'to the corresponding ends of the second left elements 14 and right 14 '.
- the ends of the second elements on the left 14 and on the right 14 ' preferably extend over less than 20% of the length of these elements 14 and 14'.
- the frame is rigid, essentially in that it is able to withstand a mass placed on the work surface.
- the workbench may also include main locking means 26 of the pivot axes 22 and 22 'so as to block the possibility of folding the panel 6.
- We can also see at the figure 3 the panel 6 in the disassembled position of the chassis 4 and during folding, position in which the first and second sub-elements 18 and 18 'carrying the rigid plates 12 and 12' fold back against each other.
- the foldable frame 4 which is in the mounted position on the figure 1 , is also illustrated in top view at the figure 2 and in the disassembled and folded position.
- the foldable frame 4 comprises a rear frame 28 extending, in the mounted position, vertically along the rear element 10 'of the rigid frame 16 of the workbench 2.
- the rear frame 28 has at its ends 29 and 29 'in the horizontal direction of the vertical pivot axes 30 and 30', visible on the figure 2 , which themselves receive side frames 32 and 32 '.
- the second elements 14 and 14 'of the rigid upper frame 16 form the upper elements of the side frames 32 and 32'.
- the lateral frames 32 and 32 ' comprise, at their base, steerable wheels 34 with a minimum diameter of 100 mm for moving the workbench.
- the rear frame 28 of the chassis 4 comprises upper and lower horizontal elements 36 and 36 ′ having a central vertical pivot hinge 38 and auxiliary locking means 40 for these hinges. Activation of the auxiliary locking means 40 of the central vertical pivoting hinges 38 makes it possible to block the rear frame 28 in the mounted position. In the folded position of the chassis 4 at the figure 2 , the locking means 40 of the hinges 38 are released and the rear frame 28 folds.
- the rear frame 28 can comprise two half-frames 42 and 42 'of identical size and which are linked by the vertical pivot hinges 38.
- the hinges 38 can be arranged so that the pivoting of the two half-frames 42 and 42' of dimension identical can be done inward the workbench.
- the lateral frames 32 and 32 ' are folded over the two half-frames 42 and 42' by pivoting around the vertical pivot axes 30 and 30 '.
- the chassis 4 has a W shape during its folding.
- the chassis 4 in folded form can have the same general dimensions as the main panel in folded form.
- the figure 6 is a view of the main panel 6 of the workbench in a preferred embodiment, it is presented disassembled from the workbench.
- the figure 5 is an enlarged view of the main panel 6 at one of the pivot axes 22.
- the first and second sub-elements 18 and 18 ' are metal profiles which include mounting plates 44 and 44' of the pivot axes.
- These plates extend vertically and are welded to each of the vertical faces of the first and second sub-elements 18 and 18 'at the ends of these sub-elements.
- These plates include a lower portion 45 and 45 ′ projecting from the sub-elements and provided with an orifice 49 for housing the pivot axis 22. It can be particularly observed in this image that the interior ends 20 and 20 ′ first and second sub-elements 18 and 18 'are contiguous at their contact edges 46 and 46'.
- the pivot axis 22 is perpendicular to the contact edges. The mass disposed on the working surface of the panel forces the pivoting of each of the first and second sub-elements 18 and 18 'in the direction of approach of the contact edges 46 and 46'.
- the sub-elements 18 and 18 ′ can be profiles of square or rectangular section, and each of the contact edges 46 and 46 ′ can extend along the square or rectangular section.
- the section of the square sections is advantageously with a side length "s" of between 25 mm and 60 mm.
- the rigid plates 12 and 12 ′ can be wooden planks, for example solid wood. They can alternatively be multiplex plates, OSB or MDF and fixed with screws to the front and rear elements of the frame.
- the rigid plates 12 and 12 ′ are advantageously of thickness "e" between 5 mm and 25 mm.
- Such play can advantageously be a few tenths of a millimeter.
- Each of the contact edges 46 and 46 'of the inner ends 20 and 20' comprise chamfers 47 and 47 'produced on the lower horizontal portions of these edges so as to form V-shaped housings for the pivot axis 22.
- the pivot axis 22 is level, in the vertical direction, of the lower sides 48 and 48 'of the first and second sub-elements 18 and 18'. This measure is favorable for the space required for folding in that the sub-elements, once folded, come into contact with each other over their entire length.
- the figure 4 is a horizontal section view IV-IV at the pivot axis 22.
- the pivot axis 22 is a stud stopped at one end to the mounting plates by a shoulder and fixed at an opposite end by a nut to the plates opposite mounting.
