Definitions

  • the invention relates to a security element with an optically variable structure that has an embossed structure made of embossed elements, which is combined with a coating that contrasts with the surface of the security element such that at least partial areas of the coating are visible when viewed from a first viewing angle range, when viewed under a second Viewing angle range are at least partially covered, so that a tilting effect occurs when the security element is tilted and / or rotated about an axis.
  • the invention further relates to an embossing tool and a method for producing such a security element.
  • optically variable security elements To protect against imitation, especially with color copiers or other reproduction processes, labels, packaging, folding boxes or other elements for product security and also data carriers such as banknotes, securities, credit or identification cards, passports, certificates and the like are equipped with optically variable security elements .
  • the protection against counterfeiting is based on the fact that the visually and simply and clearly recognizable optically variable effect is not or only insufficiently reproduced by the above-mentioned reproduction devices.
  • the optically variable security elements have a corresponding haptic that is difficult to copy, but easy to check and without tools.
  • a data carrier with an optically variable element which consists of an embossed structure and a coating in the form of a printed image or line screen.
  • the embossed The structure or the coating are supplemented by a partial change in their structure such that either the already known optically variable effect is enhanced or at least one further visually recognizable effect occurs.
  • the entirety of the optically variable effect created by the combination of background and embossing and the additional effect is visually recognizable, but cannot be reproduced with the aid of copying machines. Accordingly, it can serve as information by means of which it can be checked whether it is an original document or, in the presence of the optically variable effect or effects, it can be excluded that the document was produced using commercially available reproduction techniques.
  • a data carrier with an optically variable structure which has an embossed structure with raised areas and a first coating which contrasts with the surface of the data carrier.
  • the embossed structure and the coating are combined in such a way that when viewed alternately vertically and obliquely, a tilting effect is created.
  • the first coating is only intended in certain areas.
  • the optically variable structure has a second coating which also contrasts with the data carrier surface and which is arranged at least in partial areas to overlap the first coating.
  • the invention is therefore based on the object of developing a generic security element in such a way that protection against counterfeiting is further increased.
  • At least one second structure is arranged within the optically variable structure, the second structure forming a grooving, punching or perforation of the security element in order to enable the optically variable structure to be bent, bent or partially removed .
  • An optically variable structure in the sense of this invention is a structure whose visual appearance changes when the element is tilted. For example, when the optically variable structure is tilted, its color changes, a bar appears to move from one side to another, different characters are displayed when it is tilted, or a so-called pump effect results in the form of an enlarging or reducing outline of an image motif.
  • Grooving of the security element in the sense of this invention is an elongated, line-shaped depression in the surface of the security element, which does not completely cut through the security element and produces a kink or separating edge.
  • the creasing is cut, scored or lasered into the surface of the security element and preferably extends from one side of the surface of the security element to an opposite side of the surface of the security element.
  • a perforation of the security element in the sense of this invention is an at least partial severing of the security element in the form of blind holes that do not completely cut through the security element, or of holes that completely cut through the security element.
  • the outline shape of such a blind hole or hole can, for example, be circular, elliptical, linear or in the form of any pattern.
  • a plurality of blind holes or is particularly preferred Holes are made in the security element, which are lined up in a line, so that a crease or separating edge is created.
  • the hole does not form a crease or separating edge, but an opening through which, for example, an observer can see through without optical aids or into which other parts of a folding box can be inserted .
  • a punching of the security element in the sense of this invention represents a perforation of the security element, which forms a tear-off or detaching edge for tearing off or detaching parts of the security element.
  • the punching thus enables a partial removal of the security element, parts of the security element being removed and removed from the security element along a predetermined separating edge or in a predetermined pattern.
  • the punching makes it particularly advantageously possible to make a package opening recognizable, since when the package is opened, parts of the security element along the stamping are detached and the security element is changed permanently and is recognizable to an observer.
  • the embossing structure consists of embossing elements arranged in a grid, the grid being in particular designed as a line grid with a constant grid width.
  • the embossing elements are nub-shaped, pyramid-shaped or hipped roof-shaped, and more complex embossing structures can also be used, such as those made of WO 2009/013000 A3 , WO 2013/045056 A1 or WO 2013/045055 A1 are known.
  • the second structure is preferably also linear, wherein the second structure is preferably arranged parallel to the line pattern of the embossed structure but can also be arranged at any other angle to the line pattern of the embossed structure.
  • the embossing structure is divided into individual partial areas.
  • the embossed structures in one partial area are oriented in one direction and the embossed structures in an adjacent partial area in another direction.
  • the embossed structures of all subregions are linearly shaped hipped roof structures, the longitudinal edges of the hipped roof structures pointing in one direction in one direction and in another direction in an adjacent partial area.
  • the longitudinal edges of the hipped roof-shaped structures of adjacent partial areas are arranged at right angles to one another.
  • the height and / or lateral dimension of the embossed structures or the embossed structures is preferably 10 ⁇ m to 1000 ⁇ m, particularly preferably 30 ⁇ m to 500 ⁇ m and very particularly preferably 60 ⁇ m to 200 ⁇ m.
  • the coating that contrasts with the surface of the security element is, for example, a metal coating applied to the entire surface of the security element, a film element, a printing ink with iridescent or magnetically orientable pigments, a single-color or multi-color printing layer that is applied to the security element over the entire surface or in a grid pattern, or a multilayered layer structure .
  • the embossed structures are designed as blind embossing or as color-guiding embossing.
  • an embossing for example, a substrate pressed out of cardboard or paper into the recesses of an embossing stamp or a gravure printing plate and thus permanently deformed.
  • the depressions are not filled with color, whereas in the case of a color-guiding embossing, the depressions are at least partially filled with color, so that the substrate is deformed and printed at the same time.
  • Blind embossing can also be created using a thermal process, whereby a substrate made of plastic is thermally deformed by the action of heat.
  • the embossed structures and / or the contrasting coating are designed in a pattern and thereby form information that is visually perceivable when viewed from above.
  • they form a graphic illustration, an image, a number, a letter, a text or other characters.
  • the information particularly preferably consists of positive or / and negative motifs.
  • a positive motif a motif element itself is applied to the substrate, whereas with a negative motif the area surrounding the motif element is applied to the substrate.
  • a positive motif is, for example, a letter printed in dark color on the light substrate.
  • a negative motif is, for example, a surface which is applied to the substrate in dark color and has an unprinted area in the form of a letter within the surface.
  • supervision is provided if the lighting and viewing are carried out from the same side of the security element.
  • the substrate of the security element particularly preferably consists of paper or cardboard made of natural fibers or synthetic fibers or a mixture of natural and synthetic fibers, or at least an embossable plastic film. Furthermore, the substrate preferably consists of a combination of at least two different substrates arranged above one another and connected to one another, a so-called hybrid.
  • the substrate consists, for example, of a combination of a paper and a plastic film, ie a paper substrate is covered on at least one side by a plastic film.
  • Valuable items in which such a substrate or security element can be used are in particular product security elements such as labels, seals, packaging, folding boxes and the like.
  • front side or back side of the substrate are relative terms, which can also be referred to as “the one” and “the opposite” side and which form the predominant part of the total surface of the substrate or value document. These terms do not expressly include the side faces of a substrate, which are vanishingly small with a thickness of a substrate that is only about a millimeter for card bodies or only a fraction of a millimeter for paper, and are usually not or are not provided with security elements or coatings can. In particular, no optically variable effects can be achieved with the side surfaces.
  • the invention further comprises an embossing tool as defined in claim 8 for producing a security element with an optically variable structure.
  • the second structure is designed as a linear depression or elevation, each with rounded edges, so that the substrate of the security element is only mechanically deformed or embossed but not damaged.
  • the second structure can be designed as a linear sequence of pointed or sharp-edged depressions or elevations, so that the substrate of the security element is cut or perforated.
  • the depth of the depressions or the height of the elevations is approximately 50% of the width of the depressions or the elevations. Such a width-to-depth ratio results, for example, in the engraving of the embossing tool with a rotating stylus, the tip of which is formed from flanks that have an angle of 40 ° to one another.
  • the depth of the depressions or the height of the elevations is preferably 10 ⁇ m to 1000 ⁇ m, particularly preferably 30 ⁇ m to 500 ⁇ m and very particularly preferably 60 ⁇ m to 200 ⁇ m. It goes without saying that the embossed structures or embossed structures which are produced with such an embossing tool have a smaller depth or height than the depressions or elevations of the embossing tool itself, since a substrate is fundamentally not completely in a recess or on a An embossing tool can be pressed.
  • the invention further relates to a method defined in claim 13 for producing an above-mentioned security element with an above-mentioned embossing tool.
  • This has the particular advantage that both the optically variable structure and the second structure can be produced in a single stamping process, so that the security element according to the invention can be produced quickly and inexpensively.
  • the optically variable structure can be produced according to the method defined in claim 14 with a first embossing tool and the second structure with a second embossing tool. This means that the optically variable structure and the second structure are produced with separate embossing tools.
  • optically variable structure and then the second structure are embossed into the substrate or vice versa.
  • This method has the particular advantage that, for example, an individual punching can be created, which can be adapted to customer requirements without having to change the embossing tool for the optically variable structure.
  • the second stamping tool is guided through a recess or opening in the first stamping tool.
  • the second stamping tool is movable with respect to the first stamping tool and is particularly preferably guided in the z direction, ie perpendicular to the surface of the first stamping tool.
  • the second embossing tool is a knife or a punch.
