Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method for operating a multicolor ink printing machine with the features of claim 1.
- the invention is in the technical field of the graphics industry and there in particular in the field of ink printing.
- a print image is generated on a printing material by a print head producing the finest ink drops corresponding to the image to be printed and transferring these onto the printing material without contact.
- the printing material can consist of paper, cardboard or plastic and can be arched or web-shaped.
- An ink printing machine for industrial production known under the product name "Primefire” and designed by Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, prints paper sheets with water-based inkjet inks.
- the machine comprises seven consecutive printing stations, which transfer the colors CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) and OGV (orange, green, violet) to the paper with fixed print heads.
- CMYK cyan, magenta, yellow and black
- OGV range, green, violet
- the EP 373 957 A1 in contrast, describes a printing press with moving print heads. Industrial production speeds are generally not achieved due to the head being moved back and forth. However, the document discloses a way to at least increase the production speed. Instead of printing with the four colors CMYK, it is also possible to print only with black, i.e. in the KKKK configuration. The production speed can be quadrupled.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide a method which is improved over the prior art and which enables high-quality printed products, i.e. To produce print products with high resolution at least in the colored part of the print image at high print speed. Another object is to create a method which enables a printing press to be used variably, i.e. depending on the print job in a suitable color configuration.
- the EP1826005A1 discloses an ink jet recording apparatus equipped with a recording head for ejecting one or more types of inks containing a photo-curable component onto a recording medium, and a light irradiation device for curing the ink by emitting light onto the deposited ink ..
- the DE3932462A1 discloses a multi-color inkjet printer. This has a printhead that is selectively connected to an ink reservoir, each of which has a different color ink. An additional reservoir contains a cleaning liquid. The printhead receives ink from the reservoirs through a single supply tube. Each container is connected to the hose via a control valve. A central control unit generates signals to operate the valves and to supply the selected color ink.
- the US2011 / 227973A1 discloses a modular printing device that can be configured with a different number of ink colors and types and with a different print resolution across the process direction for each ink color and type.
- the modular printing device which can be configured to print with multiple combinations of ink colors and types of ink at different print resolutions, includes a variety of printhead assemblies, each printhead assembly configured to receive ink with a first print resolution on an image recording surface. And each ink supply is configured to store ink and deliver ink to a printhead assembly in the plurality of printhead assemblies. And with a controller configured to operate the plurality of printhead assemblies in one of at least two combinations of.
- the colored portion of the printed image is composed of partial images. Both drawing files together result in the desired print resolution.
- the black component on the other hand, is only printed with half the desired print resolution if only one printing station is intended for black.
- a preferred development of the method according to the invention can be characterized in that the colored part of the printed image in the transport direction is built up from successive print lines and that the first partial picture comprises all even-numbered lines of the colored part of the printed image and the second partial picture comprises all odd-numbered lines of the colored part of the printed image .
- "Even numbered" and "odd numbered” only stand for alternating lines.
- the construction of the print image from complementary partial images using at least two print heads advantageously enables the production speed to be increased and at most doubled.
- a preferred development of the method according to the invention can be characterized in that the colored portion of the printed image is constructed in a checkerboard manner and that the first partial image comprises a first checkered half of the colored portion of the printed image and the second partial image comprises a second checkered half of the colored portion of the printed image that is complementary to the first half .
- the printing speed can also be doubled in this way too.
- Checkerboard-like printing advantageously leads to a "quieter" print image.
- the second group O G V can simulate the first group C M Y, i.e. C, M and Y are then mixed from the chromatic colors O, G and V.
- the print data are prepared accordingly in prepress.
- the checkerboard-like printing of two complementary partial images from CMY and OG V is preferred.
- a printing press in the KCMYOGV configuration therefore offers the advantage that the OGV group can either be used to expand the color space (in the production of seven-color printed products) or to double the Print speed (when producing only four-color print products with seven active printing stations).
- the groups C, M and Y can be simulated by the Y, G and V. Since yellow, as one of the brightest colors in the additive color mixture, can only be mixed from other colors with difficulty, the configuration CCMYYGV is preferred over the configuration CCMYOGV.
- the first group F1, F2 and F3 forms a basis of chromatic colors of a first color system and F4, F5 and F6 forms a basis of chromatic colors of a second color system.
- the color location of F1 can be close to cyan corresponding to F2 for magenta, F3 for yellow, F4 for orange, F5 for green and F6 for violet.
- the chromatic colors F1 to F6 can also occupy other color locations.
- the configuration K C M Y C M Y (A) offers the advantage that the group C M Y occurs twice in the same arrangement.
- the configuration K C M Y Y M C offers the advantage that Y and O are both bright colors and therefore an easy change of ink to K C M Y O G V is possible with little cleaning effort and cleaning agent consumption. The same applies even more to K C M Y Y G V (configuration (D) not according to the invention) when changing to K C M Y O G V.
- the configuration K C C M M Y Y offers the advantage that the printing stations for the same chromatic colors are arranged one after the other.
- each printing station at which an ink change takes place has one Supply module for a first ink, a supply module for a second ink and a supply module for a first cleaning liquid and that cleaning takes place between printing with the first ink and printing with the second ink, with a switch being made between the supply modules.
- a further development of the method according to the invention can be characterized in that an eighth printing station prints a fourth partial image of the printed image with black ink and with half the print resolution, such that the third and fourth partial images add up to the black or achromatic portion of the printed image.
- the black part (like the colored part) is also printed in high resolution.
- a further development of the method according to the invention can also be characterized in that the printing stations are arranged in succession in the transport direction in the following configuration: K K F1 F2 F3 F4 F5 F6.
- the two partial images of the black portion are printed first. However, it is preferred to produce the black component with only one printing station, particularly preferably the first printing station, and to produce the colored components with two printing stations each.
- a fourth partial image complementary to the black, third partial image can also advantageously be generated from the chromatic colors of the first and / or second color system, i.e. Black or the darkest possible shade is then mixed from bright colors.
- the provision of an additional (possibly eighth) printing station can then be avoided with a cost advantage.
- Figure 1 show the Figure 1 shows a sheet-processing ink printing machine 10 for the industrial production of multi-colored print products in the inkjet printing process, which is suitable for performing the method according to the invention.
- the machine comprises a stack feeder 13, a so-called precoat unit 14 for applying a pre-coating, an inkjet printing unit 15 for image-wise printing of the sheets 11, a coating unit 17 and a stack delivery unit 19.
- the sheets are passed through with cylinders the machine transports and preferably consists of paper, alternatively of cardboard.
- the printing unit comprises seven printing stations 1 to 7 arranged one after the other in the sheet transport direction for transferring ink drops, preferably the process colors black, cyan, magenta, yellow, orange, green and violet.
- Each station comprises an arrangement of print heads that are essentially immobile in the transport direction, each with a large number of individually controllable print nozzles for generating the drops (“drop on demand” or DOD).
- the stations enable page-wide printing of the sheets in the so-called single-pass mode, ie the sheets only reach the effective area of the stations once.
- the inks are water-based inks, the drops of which react with the precoating to form high-definition print dots, and contain pigments as colorants.
- the dryer 18 is a thermal dryer with infrared emitters, preferably LED emitters, and serves to evaporate the water from the printed ink or from the printing material. Additional dryers can also be provided, for example after the precoat and lacquer works and in the delivery.
- the machine also includes a machine controller with a computer and a control program running on the computer, it being possible for the computer to be part of an operating console (not shown). Also not shown are a device for supplying the printing stations with inks and a device for cleaning the print heads.
- the printing material is fed from the feeder 13 to the inkjet printing unit 15 and lies there on the surface of a cylinder 16.
- the cylinder can be driven by a motor 16 'directly or indirectly via a gear at a variable speed.
- the printing press in Figure 1 has a configuration A.
- the seven printing stations 1 to 7 are supplied with ink in such a way that inks of the following colors are printed on the substrate in the following order: black or K, cyan or C, magenta or M, yellow or Y and again cyan, magenta and yellow.
- Configuration A enables the production of a four-color printed image. Since two printing stations are provided for each of the three chromatic colors CMY, it is advantageously possible to generate print images with a predetermined print resolution and to increase the transport speed of the printing material 11 and to maximally double it.
- print heads 1A to 7A which are designed for a print resolution of 1200 dpi, can be used to generate a print image which has a predetermined print resolution of 1200 dpi in the colored part.
- a print image with 1,200 dpi can be generated in color at up to a maximum of twice the production speed.
- Figure 1 also shows alternative configurations B to F, in which the illustrated printing press 10 can also be operated.
- the seven printing stations 1 to 7 are each supplied with the corresponding inks or process colors.
- the press shown can remain in the same configuration across multiple print jobs.
- a device provided for such an ink change is shown in Figure 3 shown.
- the configurations D, F shown are not configurations according to the invention.
- FIG. 2A shows a print image as it is generated according to the prior art. To simplify matters, only one color is shown.
- the print image 20 is composed of print lines 20 ′ which are essentially perpendicular to the transport direction 12. For this purpose, a print head is actuated with a print cycle and printed line by line onto the printing material 11.
- the print image 20 in Figure 2B is composed of a first partial image 21 or first or even-numbered print lines 25 (which are printed first) and a second partial image 22 or second or odd-numbered print lines 26 (which are subsequently printed between the first lines). Again, only one printed image from one color is shown for simplicity.
- Figure 2C shows that instead of the in Figure 2B lines shown, the first printed image 21 can also be a first checkerboard-like half 27 and the second printed image 22 can be a preferably complementary, second checkered-like half 28 of the printed image 20.
- the first print lines 25 in Figure 2B and the first checkerboard half 27 in Figure 2C are printed by a first printhead of a chromatic color.
- the second print lines 26 in Figure 2B and the second checkerboard half 28 in Figure 2C are printed by a second print head of the same color.
- the two print heads in configuration A would be print heads 2A of print station 2 and print heads 5A of print station 5. The same applies to the remaining chromatic colors.
- FIG. 2D the line-by-line structure of a third partial image 23 of the printed image 20 for the black component or the achromatic component is shown.
- This is shown on the left in the example Figure 2D generated with only one printhead.
- this would be print head 1A of print station 1.
- a comparison of the left side of the Figure 2D and the respective right side of the Figures 2B and 2C shows that the black portion or achromatic portion of the printed image 20 has a lower print resolution than the colored portion (for example half the print resolution). It can therefore, as on the right side of the Figure 2D shown, be provided to provide an eighth print station 8 with an eighth print head 8A.
- a fourth partial image 24 complementary to the third partial image 23 can be generated.
- FIG. 3 shows a device for ink change 30.
- a device for ink change 30.
- the device comprises a supply module 31a for first ink, a supply module 31b for second ink and a supply module 31c for cleaning liquid.
- the inks flow through a print head 32 or its upstream line system 33 and downstream line system 34 (so-called manifolds).
- the supply module 31a (and also the supply module 31b in a corresponding manner) has a pump 36a, a pump 36b, a tank 37, a degaser 38 and a filter 39.
- the ink flows from the supply module via a switch 35a to the print head and from there via a switch 35b back to the supply module.
- the switch can e.g. B.
- the changeover switch can be designed as changeover valves.
- the changeover switch can be used to switch between the supply modules 31a and 31b for ink.
- it is e.g. B. possible between the in Figure 1 shown to change different configurations A to F or to perform a corresponding ink change at the affected printing stations 1 to 8.
- a device for the ink change 30 need only be provided at those printing stations 1 to 8 at which an ink change actually takes place.
- the first printing station 1, which prints black ink in all configurations, needs e.g. B. have no such device 30.
- the changeover switch can also be used to pass a cleaning liquid through the lines and the printhead in order to carry out cleaning before the introduction of new ink.
- Figure 4 shows a color space 40 or the known CIE color triangle with two axes 41.
- the color locations of the colors C, M, Y, O, G, V and also the colors F1 to F6 are shown in the illustration. Only exemplary color locations were selected for the latter.
- the chromatic colors of the first color system F1 to F3 and the chromatic colors of the second color system F4 to F6 each lie in the areas delimited by the dashed lines.
