Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a safety riding stirrup aimed at securing the practice of riding by avoiding the risk that the rider may have his foot stuck in the stirrup in the event of a fall from the horse, and be dragged by the horse which continues its race.
  • a first family includes the so-called single-branch stirrups, which are open at the top, with a shorter outer branch and made of a flexible material so as to bend in the event of a fall to let the foot escape.
  • the document FR 2 946 331 A1 describes in particular a riding stirrup of this type with a single half-arch connecting a floor of the stirrup and an eyelet for mounting the stirrup on a stirrup, and a flexible external branch secured to one end of the floor and free at the other end located closest to the eyelet.
  • a second family includes stirrups, the floor of which is articulated so as to free the foot during a fall.
  • the document TWM 252706 U describes an example of such a safety stirrup.
  • a third family relates to stirrups in which a foot support is pivotally mounted between two branches of a frame element, so as to be able to completely unhook in the event of a fall and thus free the foot.
  • An example of a stirrup of this type is described in particular in the document EP 1 395 515 B1 .
  • stirrups are known under a similar principle of foot support capable of being detachably connected to a stirrup strap, by means of a securing device:
  • the document EP 0 199 628 B1 describes a safety stirrup in which the securing device consists of an elastic clamp, the two jaws of which grip the upper part of the head of the stirrup, and cooperate with a cam on this upper part, the profile of which is such that it is capable of causing the beginning of the separation of the two jaws in the event of rotation of this cam on itself, up to the caliper exhaust.
  • a caliper is also connected to a loop in a detachable manner thanks to a securing device comprising a spring which pushes a part against an axis of the caliper, in order to force the ears of the caliper in corresponding grooves of the loop.
  • a torque is created opposing the stiffness of the spring to bring the ears out of the grooves and thus unhook the caliper from the buckle.
  • the document US 725 204 A describes a safety riding stirrup comprising a loop capable of being attached to a stirrup, a stirrup having the general shape of a hoop in which a rider introduces a foot in a direction of introduction substantially perpendicular to the plane containing the hoop, with a floor in the lower part, on which a rider can put his foot, and at least one side branch connecting said floor to a head of the stirrup, and a device for securing the head of the stirrup to the buckle, suitable to allow total separation of the stirrup from the buckle in the event of a fall, the attachment device comprising: a lower end of the buckle and the head of the stirrup cooperating on sliding surfaces of curved profile to allow, before total separation of the stirrup and the buckle, a relative rotation of the stirrup and of the buckle in said direction of introduction of a rider's foot into the stirrup.
  • single branch or hinged floor stirrup systems may not work in some cases.
  • the tip of the foot may come up against the top of the stirrup.
  • the object of the invention is to overcome the drawbacks of the safety stirrups described above.
  • the stirrup in the event of a fall of a rider, the stirrup will be able to be uncoupled from the buckle in two stages, a first stage in which the stirrup will first be unclipped, and a second stage in which there will be total separation of the stirrup and the buckle.
  • the rider retains greater freedom in normal conditions of use, since it is possible for him to print relative rotations between the caliper and the buckle without necessarily going as far as total separation, or even avoiding unclipping.
  • normal conditions is meant here the conditions of practice of the horse not linked to cases of falls.
  • said at least one relief of the clipping mechanism is a notch formed on the corresponding surface, the notch comprising an end stop able to cooperate with said elastic element to prevent unclipping of the stirrup relative to to the buckle under normal conditions, said elastic element being able to pass the stopper to allow unclipping.
  • the notch extends parallel to the curved profile over a determined length to allow the relative rotation of the stirrup and of the buckle in said direction of introduction of a rider's foot into the stirrup. before the elastic element passes the end stop to allow unclipping.
  • the rotation relative caliper and buckle is therefore made possible even before any unclipping occurs.
  • the notch may further include an intermediate stop.
  • the notch can also have a variable depth, more precisely which decreases when one approaches the end stop.
  • the notch has a length adjusted to the size of a free end of the elastic element, so that the relative rotation of the stirrup and of the buckle in said direction of introduction d 'one foot of the rider in the stirrup is only allowed after unclipping and before total separation of the stirrup and the buckle.
  • the unclipping is therefore almost immediate if the rider prints a rotation, but does not necessarily go as far as total separation of the stirrup and the buckle thanks to the angular freedom offered by the sliding surfaces of curved profile.
  • a safety riding stirrup according to a first possible embodiment will now be described with reference to figures 1 to 7a-7d . It is essentially composed of three parts, namely a buckle 1, a stirrup 2 and a clipping mechanism 3 interposed between the buckle 1 and the stirrup 2.
  • This clipping mechanism 3 forms, with other parts placed on the one hand, on the lower end of the loop 1 and on the other hand, on the upper part of the stirrup 2, a device for securing the stirrup 2 to the buckle 1, capable of allowing unclipping, or even total separation of the stirrup 2 from the buckle 1 in the event of a fall of the rider, as will be explained below.
  • the stirrup 2 has the general shape of a hoop in which a rider can insert a foot in a direction of introduction substantially perpendicular to the plane containing the hoop.
  • the direction of insertion of the foot is represented by the arrow F, in particular on the figures 1 and 2 .
  • the stirrup 2 conventionally comprises a floor 20 in the lower part, on which a rider can put his foot, and two side branches 21, 22 connecting the floor 20 to a head 23 of the stirrup 2.
  • the stirrup 2 could also include a single lateral branch between the floor 20 and the head 23.
  • the floor 20 can advantageously comprise spikes or any other means capable of promoting good adhesion, and possibly providing damping.
  • the buckle 1 has for its part, on its upper end, an opening 10 through which a stirrup strap (not shown) can be attached.
  • the securing device is formed by elements carried on the one hand, by the loop 1, and on the other hand, by the stirrup, as well as by the clipping mechanism 3 interposed between the of them.
  • the loop 1 has at its lower end two lateral extensions 11 and 12 (particularly visible on the figures 1 , 3, 4 ) able to cooperate with two flanges 24, 25 fitted to the head 23 of the caliper 2.
  • the two flanges 24, 25 extend vis-à-vis parallel to the plane containing the arch and define a passage 26 receiving the lower end of the loop 1.
  • the lower surfaces 27 of the two flanges 24, 25 form two shoulders against which the upper surfaces of the two lateral extensions 11 and 12 bear respectively (see in particular the figures 3 and 6 ).
  • the mechanism 3 for clipping the stirrup 2 to the loop 1, for its part, extends between the two flanges 24 and 25. It comprises at least one elastic element, here a spring 30 which extends in the longitudinal axis. of the stirrup 2, and the free end of which is received, in a clipping position, in a corresponding notch 13 carried by a lower surface of the lower end of the loop 1, connecting the two lateral extensions 11, 12 ( see in particular figures 7a , 7c and 7d ).
  • the notch 13 has an end stop 14 adapted to cooperate with the free end of the elastic element 30 to prevent unclipping of the stirrup 2 relative to the buckle 1.
  • the elastic element 30 can in some cases pass the end stop 14 to allow unclipping.
  • a roller 31, or any other element promoting sliding between the free end of the elastic element 30 and the end stop 14, is preferably provided in the clipping mechanism 3.
  • the elastic element 30 is housed mainly in a central recess 28 provided in the head 23 of the yoke 2, under the passage 26 defined by the two flanges 24, 25 (see figure 4 ).
  • the elastic element 30 is advantageously housed inside a cartridge 32 ( figures 1 and 6 ) of substantially parallelepipedal shape, which can be introduced into the central recess 28 of corresponding shape.
  • the cartridge 32 advantageously comprises two ears 33 ( figures 1 and 6 ) which are used to retain the roller 31 so that it does not touch the bottom of the corresponding notch 13 in the clipping position, but also so that it is not ejected after unclipping.
  • the figures 4 and 6 show in particular the way in which the roller 31 is held in the cartridge 32 of the clipping mechanism 3.
  • stirrup 2 is clipped to the loop 1 thanks to the action of the spring 30 which is compressed and pushes the roller 31 into the notch 13 of the loop.
  • the lower surfaces 27 of the two flanges 24, 25 provided in the head 23 of the caliper on the one hand, and the upper surfaces 11a, 12a of the two lateral extensions 11, 12 provided in the lower end of the loop 1 on the other hand are shaped according to a curved profile and together form sliding surfaces to allow relative rotation of the stirrup 2 and of the loop 1 in said direction of introduction of a rider's foot into the stirrup.
  • the notch 13 is wide in that it extends parallel to the curved profile over a determined length to allow the relative rotation of the stirrup 2 and of the buckle 1 in said direction of introduction of a rider's foot in the caliper before the elastic element 30 passes the end stop 14 to allow unclipping.
  • the sliding surfaces 11a, 12a and 27 combined with a wide notch therefore give angular freedom of the stirrup 2 with respect to the buckle 1 before the elastic element 30 passes the end stop 14 to allow unclipping. After unclipping, the parts of the sliding surfaces 11a, 12a and 27 still in contact allow sufficient relative rotation to obtain, if the situation so requires (in the event of a fall), total separation.
  • the figures 7a to 7d more specifically illustrate a sequencing in the relative positions of the loop 1 and of the stirrup 2, which takes place in the event of a fall of the rider tilting towards the rear of the horse.
  • the safety riding stirrup is illustrated in section in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the stirrup, and the reference P is used to designate a rider's foot introduced into the stirrup in the direction of introduction shown. by the arrow F.
  • a shape 29 (also visible on the figure 1 ) is preferably provided at the top of the stirrup to serve as a stopper at the front of the boot. This shape 29 prevents the foot from hindering the exit of the loop in the event of a fall.
  • a torque is then created which causes the caliper 2 to rotate relative to the loop 1 thanks to the curved profile of the sliding surfaces.
  • the caliper 2 is always clipped to the loop 1 and this, until the roller 31 comes to meet the end stop 14 ( figure 7b ).
  • the notch 13 as visible on the figures 7a to 7d has a fixed depth.
  • the stirrup 2 is automatically refocused.
  • the roller 31 will end up in the second part of the shallower notch which allows constrained angular freedom (the spring 30 is compressed a little and the caliper 2 turns less freely).
  • This solution makes it possible to have a centering of the caliper while allowing angular freedom in the event of poor reception that does not lead to a fall.
  • the notch 13 has a length adjusted to the size of the free end, here the roller 31, of the elastic element 30.
  • the spring 30 is immediately compressed at the slightest relative rotational movement between the buckle and the stirrup, especially in the event of a fall, and the stirrup 2 is unclipped from the buckle 1.
  • the stirrup 2 and the buckle 1 are not yet separated , and are still held together by the parts of the sliding surfaces still in contact. This unclipping position without total separation is represented by the figure 10 .
  • the securing device further advantageously comprises a front stop 16 between the loop 1 and the head 23 of the caliper, in the example carried by the loop 1.
  • the function of this front stop 16 is to prevent the caliper from turns forward (bad jump, bad support during landing, etc.).
  • the coupling flanges / side extensions can also be reversed.
  • the figure 13 illustrates the case where two flanges 11 'and 12' are provided on the lower end of the loop 1, and lateral extensions 24 'and 25' are provided on the head 23 of the stirrup. Unlike the case illustrated on figure 3 , it is here the upper surfaces of the two flanges 11 ', 12' which form two shoulders against which the lower surfaces of the two lateral extensions 24 'and 25' bear respectively.
  • the elastic element 30 of the clipping mechanism is housed mainly in a recess 28 provided in the head 23 of the caliper.
  • the positioning of the parts of the clipping mechanism can be reversed by providing that the elastic element 30 of the clipping mechanism is housed mainly in a recess provided in the loop 1.
  • the corresponding surface with at least one relief is then carried by the head of the caliper.
  • the resilient member 30 may further be an elastomer such as that shown in Figure figure 15 .
  • the elastic element can be of the ball type.
  • the relief cooperating with the elastic element may be a groove or a simple hole.
  • FIG 16 A particularly interesting embodiment is illustrated on figure 16 .
  • a part 4 capable of being fixed in a removable manner under the lower end of the loop 1 is provided. It is therefore a lower surface of this part 4 which carries the notch in which the end of the spring 30 is housed, and not directly a lower surface of the lower end of the loop 1.
  • the part 4 can thus be easily changed in case of premature wear.
  • Another advantage is that the same rider can opt for a part 4 having a different notch, and thus modulate the angular freedom which is offered to him.
  • the part removable is then able to be fixed in the head of the caliper, and bears the corresponding notch on its upper surface.
