Domaine de l'inventionField of the invention

The present invention relates to the destruction of dangerous objects such as shells or other ammunition. The invention relates in particular to the field of demilitarization and more generally to all sectors of environmental protection. It relates in particular to a secure preparation device for destruction by confined explosion of dangerous objects and the method of producing and implementing such a device.

Each year, 30 to 50 tons of chemical munitions are discovered in the old French battlefields, particularly in eastern and northern France.

About 60 000 000 toxic shells were fired on the battlefields of north-eastern France. 10 to 15% of them have not worked, that is to say about 100,000 tons ... Although many of these munitions have already been found since the end of European conflicts, the pace of discoveries should remain constant for next centuries. This is also the case for regions of the world where such weapons have been used or stored. The destruction and neutralization of such objects pose formidable technical problems.

The destruction of toxic products must necessarily be done in a closed environment to prevent the spread of toxic molecules and their degradation products often themselves very dangerous (arsenic for example). The simultaneous presence of the explosive charge and the toxic products makes the delicate and dangerous neutralization operations. The difficulty is at its height when the munitions in question are in a state that does not allow their disassembly, either because of their corrosion, or because their firing system is already aligned ie armed and triggered.

Un dispositif de destruction d'objets dangereux comme des obus, munitions ou autres charges à détruire par détonation comportant un emballage est connu du JP 2006 029608 A .A device for destroying dangerous objects such as shells, ammunition or other charges to be destroyed by detonation containing a package is known to JP 2006 029608 A .

Several neutralization techniques have been implemented over time: remote-controlled drilling or sawing, acid dissolution, self-detonation in an armored furnace.

One of the most effective and versatile methods is to surround the munition with massive explosive charges and detonate the whole thing in an armored detonation chamber. The heat and the shock wave fracture the ammunition and destroy its explosive and / or toxic contents.

The major drawback of the method lies in the large number of manual operations required: preparation of the ammunition and additional charges, setting up the ignition line, loading the chamber, these operations must be done most often in protective clothing.

Description détaillée de modes de réalisation de l'inventionDETAILED DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION

To reduce or eliminate the manual handling operations of the ammunition or charges to be destroyed, the present invention proposes the constitution of a pre-equipped conditioning means comprising explosive charges and an ignition line. The charge or charges to be destroyed can then be deposited on this means which, by a simple remote control operation comes to constitute a package to be introduced into a detonation chamber to explode.

An advantage of the invention is that the explosive charges and the ignition line being new pyrotechnic objects, they can be handled directly by an operator in accordance with the safety standards and in particular compliance with the maximum quantities of explosive present.

  • permettre le pré-positionnement des charges explosives et de la ligne d'allumage;
  • plaquer les charges explosives sur la munition afin de la fracturer;
  • présenter une interface de manutention aisément tété-opérable du colis final;
The pre-equipped conditioning means of the invention performs in particular the following functions:
  • allow the pre-positioning of the explosive charges and the ignition line;
  • lay explosive charges on the ammunition to fracture it;
  • to present an interface of handling easily tété-operable of the final package;
  • be compatible with industrial constraints: low cost, easy storage and supply.

The figure 1 represents an embodiment of a device according to the invention before folding. On a blank 10, for example a standard thick packing cardboard plate, blocks of foam 40, 41 are glued.

The blank may in particular be a strong carton for 10 mm thick triple-groove packaging whose main fiber (the axis of the grooves) is positioned perpendicular to the axis of the ammunition to prevent sagging of the package once folded. To allow its folding, the blank may include imprints of fold lines.

The foam plates 40, 41 are, for example, polymer foam plates such as a standard polyurethane foam of 48 kg / m 3 type for the plate supporting the ammunition, 24 kg / m 3 for the other parts of the unfolded packaging. The foam boards are simply glued (by self-adhesive strips or a spray glue for example) onto the carton of the package.

Blocks of explosive forming the explosive charges 20, 21 are fixed on the support plates such as foam blocks using means for fixing the explosive charges of small straps type 50 preferably provided with self-gripping means but also to be elastic. Typically explosive charges are explosive charges used in mines and quarries, for example emulsion type.

The blank comprises fold lines p1, p2, p3, p4 defining sections 11, 12, 13, 14a, 14b and the load to be destroyed, here a shell 100 which is placed on the explosive charges arranged on a main section 11 of the device around which the blank will be folded.

The figure 2 represents the blank equipped with the support plates 40, 41 without the explosive charges. The main panel 11 and its support plate 40 is wider than the side panels 12, 13 and the end panels 14b, 14c intended to provide the upper face of the package. These side and end panels receive plates of reduced width 41. The plates 40, 41 received by the panels are cut to have a reduced width relative to the panels to allow the folding of the box-shaped packaging.

The means 50 for fixing the explosive charges of the straps type, for example in two parts provided with self-gripping material (known for example under the trademark Velcro) or elastic, are mounted on the blank and pass through slots in the support plates.

The device further comprises an ignition line 60 which is a standard device consisting of an electric detonator 61 or initiator and a detonating charge 62 or booster. This ignition line is responsible for simultaneously igniting all additional charges 20, 21. The initiator and the detonating charge are placed at one end of the box, where the compression action of the foam blocks goes squeeze the loaves of explosives against them. An electrical wire 63 connecting the detonator to a control module 64 is folded onto one of the sidewalls of the box and held by fasteners, for example straps made of self-gripping material. The control module 64 connected to the initiator by the wire 63 can thus be moved away from the box.

The emplacement of the explosive charges such as explosive bars, as well as the setting of the ignition line can be done manually in an ad hoc room on the plate equipped with support plates and explosive charges. Once the plate thus prepared, it is transferred to a room dedicated to operations involving the handling of the loads to be destroyed. There the dangerousness of the operations imposes the remote handling.

The foam plates 40, 41 and explosive charges 20, 21 are arranged in such a way that they have a recess allowing a stable and teleoperated removal of the charge to be destroyed. The ammunition (s) to be destroyed are taken from the stock and deposited on the explosive charges of the main blank. The device is then closed by a folding machine. Closing the package that is the packaging equipped with its explosive charges and containing the dangerous object to be destroyed is for example provided by an adhesive tape.

  • étape A: pose du flan de réception de munitions déplié et muni de ses plaques support qui ici comportent des découpes latérales à 45° pour permettre le pliage du flan selon ses lignes de pliage ;
  • étape B: mise en place des charges explosives selon un arrangement de charges épaisses 20 et fines 21 assurant une bonne couverture de la charge à détruire une fois le colis replié puis mise en place d'une ligne d'allumage;
  • étape C: dépose de la ou des munitions ou charges à détruire sur le pan autour duquel sera replié le colis;
  • étapes D, E, F: fermeture progressive du colis selon les lignes de pliage p2, p3 pour replier les pans latéraux 12, 13 autour du pan principal 11 puis p1, p4 pour replier les demi pans supérieurs 14a, 14b;
The steps of the method of implementation of the device of the invention are schematized in figure 3 and include:
  • step A: laying the ammunition receiving blank unfolded and provided with its support plates which here have 45 ° side cutouts to allow the folding of the blank according to its fold lines;
  • step B: placing explosive charges according to a thick and thin charge arrangement 21 ensuring good coverage of the charge to be destroyed once the package folded and then set up an ignition line;
  • step C: removal of the ammunition or charges to be destroyed on the pan around which the package will be folded;
  • steps D, E, F: progressive closure of the package according to fold lines p2, p3 to fold the side panels 12, 13 around the main panel 11 then p1, p4 to fold the upper half panels 14a, 14b;

In the package folded according to step F the foam plates firmly apply the explosive charges to the load to be destroyed.

Le colis terminé est réalisé sous forme d'une boîte tubulaire, ici de section carrée ou rectangulaire représentée en figure 4 avec des sangles de manutention 51 par exemple préalablement fixées sous le flan de sorte que leur décrochage et la mise en place de ces soit possible avec un seul mouvement;The finished package is made in the form of a tubular box, here of square or rectangular section represented in figure 4 with handling straps 51 for example previously fixed under the blank so that their stall and the introduction of these is possible with a single movement;

The following process involves the attachment of the box or package to a handling machine by means of the straps 51 and the establishment of the box in a detonation chamber 70 as shown in FIG. figure 5 by the handling machine which can be a remotely controlled robot.

Then it is detonated the box.

The set of selected materials meets two requirements: a minimum cost, considering that the box is for single use, and a reduction in the gaseous volume emitted during the combustion of the box in the room. This latter requirement generally corresponds to the definition of a maximum permissible mass and a maximum organic matter content.

  • dans le cas de la figue 6A, trois petites munitions 102, une boîte à quatre pans et rabat 15 et des blocs de mousse 40, 41, 42 de trois largeur différentes;
  • les figures 6B et 6C, deux arrangements possibles pour deux munitions moyennes 101. L'arrangement de la figure 6B correspond à une boîte formée selon quatre plis p1, p2, p3, p4 avec deux demi pans 14a, 14b en face supérieure, l'arrangement de la figure 6C correspond à une boîte formée selon trois plis p1, p2, p3 avec un pan 14 en face supérieure plié à partir d'une première face latérale 12 et rejoignant seconde une face latérale 13. Cette boîte comporte en outre une plaque mousse inférieure munie d'une découpe 44 permettant d'enfoncer une charge explosive 20 et ainsi de rapprocher les charges à détruire;
  • les figures 6D et 6E deux arrangements réalisés pour des grosses munitions 103, l'arrangement de la figure 6D plaçant des charges épaisses 20 aux coins de la boîte alors que l'arrangement de la figure 6E les place sur des faces latérales enfoncées dans des découpes des plaques latérales;
The cutting of the foam blocks is adapted to the shape and weight of the ammunition. Examples of Figures 6A to 6G give a non-limiting overview of the possible arrangements for:
  • in the case of Fig. 6A, three small munitions 102, a box with four sides and flap 15 and foam blocks 40, 41, 42 of three different widths;
  • the Figures 6B and 6C , two possible arrangements for two medium ammunition 101. The arrangement of the Figure 6B corresponds to a box formed in four folds p1, p2, p3, p4 with two half-panels 14a, 14b on the upper face, the arrangement of the Figure 6C corresponds to a box formed in three plies p1, p2, p3 with a pan 14 on the upper face folded from a first lateral face 12 and secondly joining a lateral face 13. This box further comprises a lower foam plate provided with a cutout 44 for driving an explosive charge 20 and thus to bring the charges to be destroyed;
  • the Figures 6D and 6E two arrangements made for large ammunition 103, the arrangement of the Figure 6D placing thick charges 20 at the corners of the box while the arrangement of the figure 6E places them on side faces sunk into cutouts of the side plates;
  • the Figures 6F and 6G arrangements also for large munitions 103 which provide arrangements of thick and thin explosive charges 21 for responding to various situations depending on the strength of the charge to be destroyed.

The device of the invention can evolve especially in the use of foam blocks of different density to avoid crushing by the weight of the ammunition, a definition of the box dimensions corresponding to the various calibers, with compatible boxes of 2 or 3 ammunition for small calibres, the use of straps folded along the box to allow their capture and deployment by a manipulator robot, the use of a connection system of the ignition line 60, the possibility of being able to simultaneously introduce several boxes in a detonation chamber using a tray holder box, plate of plastic acrylate alveolée for example. In this case an ignition line common to all boxes and fixed on the tray can be used.

The example of Figure 7A is a variant for which the blank 10 'is directly made of foam and provided with cutouts between the sections in the form of V-shaped grooves 16 adapted to achieve areas of reduced thickness for folding the blank according to four sections to produce the tubular package according to the Figure 7B .

In this example, the means 50 for fixing the loads are constituted by straps inserted in slots of the foam and closing on the explosive charges.

The example of Figures 7A and 7B comprises a support plate 55 which can also be used in the case of the example of the figure 1 and which may include means for retaining the handling straps.

The figure 8 represents a polygonal section packaging here hexagonal having identical 11a to 11e sections, In this example the sections are made directly in the foam blank provided with folding V 16 grooves such as the blank of the Figure 7A . Such a blank is made of a sufficiently dense foam to dispense with a cardboard blank on which foam plates are arranged.

The hexagonal geometry makes it possible to distribute the charges more evenly around the object to be destroyed and it is conceivable in the context of the invention to further increase the number of panels.

In addition to the destruction of weapons with explosive content, the invention can be used for the preparation for the destruction by detonation of any dangerous object, whose dismantling by other means would be risky or too expensive. Indeed the invention is capable of being easily adapted to objects of various shapes and sizes and varied in the context of the destruction by detonation of dangerous products that is suitable for the destruction of a large number of toxic molecules.
