Definitions

  • the invention relates to a capsule with a preferably rotationally symmetrical capsule body according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • Such capsules are widely used today, in particular for the preparation of coffee or mixed coffee beverages.
  • the capsule forms portion packaging for the transport and storage of the substance contained therein, and at the same time the design of the capsule plays an important role in the preparation of the beverage in a corresponding beverage preparation machine.
  • the capsule For storage, the capsule must form an aroma-tight shell and it must protect the substance it contains from moisture and other environmental influences.
  • the capsule is usually opened on the entry side by penetrating the lid when the capsule is enclosed in the beverage preparation machine.
  • the internal pressure that builds up usually causes the capsule to open so that the injected liquid can flow through the substance.
  • foils which burst without mechanical action solely under the action of pressure.
  • the US 2008/0026121 A1 discloses a capsule for the production of a beverage product according to the preamble of claim 1, comprising a capsule body with an outlet which is closed on its outside by an elastic septum.
  • the US 2011/0005399 A1 shows a capsule at the bottom of which a film is attached which can be punctured by a penetration element.
  • a capsule In the FR 2 062 337 A5 a capsule is disclosed, the lid of which is penetrated with a penetrant for introducing gas. As a result of the increase in pressure in the capsule, a film breaks open, which closes an outlet.
  • the EP 2 444 339 A1 discloses a capsule which has a film and penetrant in the bottom so that the film is punctured under pressure.
  • a disadvantage of this solution is that inserting the bursting film directly above the outlet connection is very complex.
  • the bursting film is difficult to attach at this point.
  • the behavior when it bursts is difficult to control.
  • a rupture disc that can burst under internal pressure in the chamber is preferably arranged at a small distance above the floor.
  • a rupture disc can be easily installed and fixed to the bottom of the capsule.
  • the bursting disc can be designed to be relatively dimensionally stable and have a wall thickness of, for example, 0.3 to 1 mm. It is advantageous if the rupture disc covers a large part of the projection area of the floor, the outer diameter of the rupture disc preferably being greater than the radius of the entire floor area.
  • the diameter of the bottom surface corresponds to the transition from the side wall to the bottom of the capsule, regardless of whether the bottom tapers in stages or conically.
  • the bottom can also have an outlet nozzle with an outlet opening.
  • the rupture disc according to the invention it would also be possible to provide the base with any desired outlet openings.
  • the bursting disc is advantageously connected to the bottom in a liquid-tight manner on a circumferential outer edge.
  • the outer edge can be welded or glued to the floor.
  • a liquid-tight snap connection is also conceivable and would simplify assembly even further.
  • the rupture disc can have support means on the underside facing the floor, on which the rupture disc can be supported at a distance on the floor.
  • these proppants serve to better control the bursting behavior and, on the other hand, they prevent the bursting disc from being pressed against the ground, which could impair the leakage of the liquid.
  • the rupture disc can furthermore have stiffening means on the underside facing the floor, which stiffen at least part of the rupture disc. These stiffening agents also serve to influence the bursting behavior.
  • the stiffening means and the supporting means can also coincide or merge into one another.
  • the bursting disc is provided with predetermined breaking points or predetermined breaking lines for the release of at least one defined opening in the event of a bursting.
  • the predetermined breaking points or predetermined breaking lines can be interrupted or continuous linear material weaknesses. With this configuration it can be determined exactly at which point an opening in the rupture disc is to be exposed and how large this opening is.
  • the predetermined breaking points or predetermined breaking lines are arranged in combination with a line of weakness in the rupture disc in such a way that the section of the rupture disc bounded by the predetermined breaking points or predetermined breaking lines can be pivoted downward against the ground around the line of weakness when bursting.
  • the line of weakness takes on the function of a film hinge around which the section that has been detached under the action of pressure is pivoted downwards.
  • the flow behavior of the liquid when it leaves the chamber can also be influenced by a corresponding arrangement of the hinged section.
  • the bursting disc has a line of weakness in the form of a regular polygon, in particular a square, and if it is on each side of the polygon is an area delimited by the predetermined breaking points or predetermined breaking lines, in particular in the form of a triangle. If the polygon is arranged in the center of the rupture disk, this obviously results in a star-shaped arrangement of the foldable sections with a simultaneous pivoting movement against the longitudinal center axis of the capsule.
  • the bottom of the capsule has a recess, the rupture disc being arranged in the recess.
  • the recess serves on the one hand to reinforce the capsule base and it facilitates the installation of further elements within the chamber.
  • a baffle plate can be arranged in the outlet connection, which effects a thorough mixing and foaming of the outflowing liquid.
  • the baffle plate can for example also be designed in the shape of a cup.
  • a sieve bottom or a filter bottom is arranged above the rupture disc. The arrangement takes place at a distance from the rupture disc.
  • a sieve base or a filter base is arranged above the rupture disc, it can also be particularly advantageous for the rupture disc to be connected to the sieve base or to the filter base in a liquid-tight manner on a circumferential outer edge.
  • a snap connection or also a welding or gluing would be conceivable.
  • This arrangement would have the advantage that the sieve base and rupture disc form a preassembled unit which can be attached above the capsule base.
  • the sieve base or the filter base is preferably designed in one piece with a beaker which contains the substance in the chamber.
  • This cup can have at least one inlet opening on the upper edge, or it can be closed with a perforated film or with a fleece filter. The upper closure of the cup can also take place directly through the lid of the capsule. In this way, an annular chamber into which the liquid can be injected is formed around the cup.
  • a sieve base or a filter base is arranged above the rupture disc, it can also be particularly advantageous for the rupture disc to be connected to the sieve base or to the filter base in a liquid-tight manner on a circumferential outer edge.
  • the sieve base or the filter base merely forms a disc which is arranged above the base of the capsule and that the entire chamber is filled with the substance up to the side walls of the capsule.
  • the bursting disc is advantageously made of a plastic material, and it can be manufactured as an injection-molded part. Injection molding can be used to produce very precise dimensions, particularly with regard to predetermined breaking points, predetermined breaking lines or weakening lines. However, it would also be conceivable to manufacture the bursting disc from light metal, for example from aluminum or from an aluminum alloy.
  • the bursting behavior can be controlled over a relatively broad pressure spectrum.
  • the build-up of a relatively high internal pressure is particularly desirable.
  • the rupture disc according to the invention can, for example, with a hydraulic internal pressure in the Open the chamber with a pressure of at least 0.5 bar.
  • the internal pressure building up in the capsule can be controlled relatively easily until it bursts. This internal pressure is advantageously in a range between 0.5 and 10 bar.
  • a capsule generally designated 1 consists of a frustoconical capsule body 2 with a circumferential side wall 3 and with a bottom 4.
  • the capsule body is preferably made as an injection-molded part from plastic material.
  • the capsule body is closed with a cover 5, for example made of a plastic film or an aluminum foil.
  • the cover is attached to a circumferential flange 20 of the capsule body.
  • the bottom 4 has a recess 18, a circumferential shoulder 22 being formed.
  • An outlet connection 9 with an outlet opening 10 is arranged in the center of the base. Details on the outlet nozzle and the outlet opening are given below using the Figure 10 explained.
  • the bottom is provided on the outside with star-shaped stiffening ribs which extend from the outlet connection 9.
  • a cup 23 is fastened to the shoulder 22 by a snap connection.
  • This cup has a sieve bottom 24 and slots 25 on the upper edge.
  • the lid 5 is sealed to the upper edge of the cup, so that a closed inner chamber for receiving the substance 7 is formed.
  • hot water is injected through the cover 5 into the outer annular chamber. This penetrates through the slots 25 into the cup 23 and flows through the substance 7 and the sieve bottom 24.
  • a rupture disk 8 is arranged above the bottom 4 in the recess 18, the structure and function of which will be described in more detail below.
  • the Figure 3 illustrates the assembly sequence in the manufacture of the capsule. First, the rupture disc 8 is inserted into the capsule body 2 and connected to the bottom in a liquid-tight manner. The cup 23 is then fixed over the bursting disc and filled with the substance. In certain cases it would even be conceivable to use pre-filled cups. Finally, the lid 5 is sealed with the capsule body 2 or with the upper edge of the cup 23. The assembled capsule and the exact location of the rupture disc is in Figure 4 shown.
  • the bursting disc 8 has a circumferential, relatively thin outer edge 11, on which it is firmly connected to the base 4 of the capsule.
  • the rupture disc has on its underside four support means 12 which are arranged at a uniform angular spacing and are approximately arrow-shaped. The rupture disc is supported on these support means in the edge region on the bottom 4.
  • a cross-shaped stiffening rib 14 is arranged on the underside, which in particular stiffens the center of the bursting disc 8.
  • the reinforcement rib is designed in one piece with four further support means 13, which also provide support in a further recess in the floor ( Figure 2 ).
  • a square line of weakness 16 is arranged centrally aligned on the upper side of the rupture disk.
  • This line of weakness consists of a strong thinning of the wall thickness, as from Figure 7 can be seen.
  • An arrow-shaped predetermined breaking line 15 adjoins each side edge of the square, so that, overall, a breakout material section 17 is delimited.
  • the predetermined breaking line 15 consists of a weakening of the wall thickness which, compared to the weakening line 16, is designed in such a way that only a very thin film of material remains.
  • the cross-shaped stiffening rib 14 on the underside of the rupture disc is arranged in such a way that the corners of the square line of weakness 16 are cut on the upper side.
  • the section of the bursting disc 8 delimited by the line of weakness 16 forms a rigid plate to which the break-out sections 17 are articulated.
  • the predetermined breaking lines 15 tear and the material sections 17 pivot in the direction of arrow a downwards against the floor, as in FIG Figure 8 is shown.
  • four star-shaped openings 26 are exposed in the embodiment shown.
  • the inclined sections 17 cause a flow radially outward in the direction of arrow b.
  • any other configuration of the knockout openings 17 would be conceivable.
  • the sections could also be deflected in such a way that a flow is achieved against the center of the capsule.
  • a vortex flow could also be achieved if the sections swivel out in the same direction around the center of the rupture disk.
  • the outlet opening 10 runs annularly around a cup-shaped baffle plate 19 in the outlet nozzle 9.
  • This baffle plate is held by individual holding webs 27 which connect the side wall of the baffle plate to the inner wall of the outlet nozzle 9.
  • this baffle plate could also have a different configuration, or it could also be replaced by a different flow baffle.
  • FIG 11 shows an alternative embodiment of a capsule, in which, however, the sieve bottom 24 in contrast to the embodiment according to FIG Figure 2 is not provided with a receptacle.
  • the sieve bottom here forms a disc which is fastened with a snap connection above the bottom 4 of the capsule.
  • the substance 7 fills almost the entire chamber 6 and expands to the circumferential side wall 3 of the capsule.
  • the cover 5 is curved in a concave manner.
  • the bursting disc 8 is also connected to the recessed bottom 4 here. As in the embodiment according to Figure 2 however, it would also be conceivable for the bursting disc to be connected to the underside of the sieve bottom in a liquid-tight manner.
