Description

CUTTING BLADE EDGE OF A CUTTING AND SPLITTING DEVICE FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The invention relates to a cutting blade edge of a cutting and splitting device according to the preamble of claim 1.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In shearing, guillotine-type cutting and splitting de- vices the shearing can be provided just against a stopper surface or deeper, i.e. so as to cross the stopper surface or a counterblade . A good and reliable cutting result is reached only by crossed shearing. The blade can thus be kept even and straight, as the stopper surface is formed by two parts between which there is a gap into which the blade penetrates. However, in the cutting stage the blade pushes some cutting waste ahead of it into the gap, which becomes caked and hardened on the gap walls under intensive pres- sure. Thus, the gap eventually closes up and prevents the movement of the cutting blade. Since the blade must above all be sharp and this way easily and well cutting, no elements that would clear the gap and push waste material ahead of them can be used in this area of the blade.
OBJECTIVE OF THE INVENTION
The objective of the invention is to remedy the above- mentioned defects of the prior art. Specifically, the objective of the invention is to disclose a solution that allows, during guillotine-type cutting of a log, the gap that is opposite the blade to be kept clean.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The cutting blade edge of a cutting and splitting device according to the invention comprises a planar cutting plate, one edge of which constitutes a cutting edge for shearing wood, and a support stopper with two support surfaces and between them a gap into which the cutting edge of the cutting plate finally penetrates after cutting a log supported against the support surfaces. According to the invention, the blade edge comprises a cleaning element that is movable in the gap between the support surfaces, i.e. a suitable pusher structure arranged to retract from the way of the cutting edge as the cutting edge penetrates into the gap, and as the cutting edge retracts, to return into the gap so as to push out any impurities caught in the gap.
The cleaning element is suitably a plate-type structure, a pusher or a scraper, which thicknesswise and also widthwise substantially corresponds to the gap between the support surfaces so that, as it moves in the gap, it pushes ahead of it any waste material caught therein so as to eject it.
In one embodiment of the invention the cutting plate and the cleaning element consist of a common plate. Approximately at the center of the plate there is an opening, the opposite edges of which constitute the cutting edge for shearing and the front edge of the cleaning element. The opening can be for example rec- tangular, in which case in the direction of movement of the cutting plate one of the opposite edges is sharpened, and the other is a straight-edged pusher structure. This way, as the blade penetrates between the support surfaces it takes therein impurities which are then, : as the blade retracts backwards, pushed out from the gap by the opposite straight edge of the opening. In this case, the movement of the cutting plate is dimensioned in such a way that, during log cutting, the cutting blade extends to a sufficient de- gree into the gap between the support surfaces and, in the opposite direction, the edge that clears the gap moves up to the level of the support surfaces.
In a second embodiment of the invention the cleaning plate comprises a spring press arranged to press the cleaning element in the direction of cleaning of the gap and to yield as the cutting blade presses against it. In this case, the cutting blade and the cleaning plate are separate pieces and the cleaning plate and the edge thereof move only to the degree they are pressed into the gap by the cutting blade, the free rest position thereof being at the level of the support surfaces. In a third embodiment of the invention the separate cleaning plate and cutting plate are mechanically coupled to each other. The coupling is made for example with suitable lever structures so that they move substantially simultaneously and in the same direction. This way, the edge that clears the gap always retracts as the blade penetrates into the gap between the support surfaces.
ADVANTAGES PROVIDED BY THE INVENTION
The cutting blade edge of a cutting and splitting device according to the invention has considerable advantages over the prior art. The invention provides for a simple and reliable blade edge by which the blade can be supported and kept straight while the gaps that support the blade can be kept clear of impurities produced during cutting of a log. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The invention will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which
Fig. 1 illustrates a first embodiment of the invention,
Fig. 2 illustrates a second embodiment of the invention,
Fig. 3 illustrates a third embodiment of the inven- tion,
Fig. 4 illustrates a first stage of use of the embodiment of Fig. 1,
Fig. 5 illustrates a second stage of use of the embodiment of Fig. 1 and
Fig. 6 illustrates a third stage of use of the embodiment of Fig. 1.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Fig. 1 illustrates a first cutting plate 1 used for the cutting blade edge of a cutting and splitting device according to the invention and formed by a rectangular plate with a central rectangular opening 12. In the direction of the shearing movement of the plate, at one edge of the opening 12 there is a sharp cutting edge 4 for shearing and at the opposite end of the opening 12 there is a cleaning element 9 which is formed by the straight and blunt front edge 13 of the edge of the opening as such. In a second embodiment of Fig. 2 a cutting plate 2 provided with a cutting edge is a plate that is separate from a second plate that functions as a cleaning element 10. The cleaning element 13 comprises a spring press 14, due to which the cleaning element 10, under pressure exerted by the cutting plate 2, is withdrawn from the way but returns by the effect of the spring and pushes ahead of it by its front edge 13 any waste material the cutting plate may have pushed into the gap between the support surfaces. In a third embodiment of Fig. 3 the separate cutting plate 3 provided with the cutting edge 4 and plate- type cleaning element 11 are coupled to each other with a lever structure 15 so that they are constantly equally distant from each other. Thus, as the cutting plate returns after cutting to its initial position the cleaning element 11 moves in the gap between the support surfaces so that it pushes out any waste material that may have been caught therein. Fig. 4-6 more specifically show as a side view the operation of the cutting plate according to Fig. 1 in a shearing-type cutting and splitting device. When the cutting plate 1 is provided in the initial position, a log 8 that is being cut can be fed from the opening 12 to a cutting position. At this point, the log rests against a support stopper 5, i.e. two support surfaces 6, the front edge of the plate-type cleaning element 9 being level with the support surfaces 6 in the gap between the support surfaces.
As pushing of the cutting plate begins in the direction of the arrow 16 so that the cutting edge 4 penetrates into the log 8, the cleaning element 9 retracts at the same time on the opposite side of the log far- ther away from the gap 7. Thus, the gap becomes empty and, after the log 8 has been cut, the cutting edge 4 is able to penetrate to a degree into the gap between the support surfaces 6. This ensures the complete cutting of the piece of log so that it does not stay hanging from the rest of the log. However, while penetrating into the gap 7 the cutting edge 4 often pushes ahead of it into the gap waste material which, due to the wedge-shaped blade and being fresh and/or resinous, easily sticks and presses on the edges of the gap. However, this does not become a problem because, as the cutting plate 1 returns in the direction of the arrow 17 back to its initial position after cutting, the plate-type cleaning element 9 that is approximately equally thick as the gap 7 pushes the gap clear of impurities and, as it extends up to the level of the support surfaces 6, drops out the waste material.
The invention has been described above by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings without in any way limiting the invention only to the structures described above. Different embodiments of the invention are possible within the scope defined by the claims.
