Description

  • The present invention relates to an assembly for the controlled unlocking of doors of vehicles.
  • As is known, on the market there are many implementation solutions for locking and releasing the rear door or side door of lorries, semi-trailer trucks (and respective trailers) and similar vehicles. Such devices are designed to keep the door locked in the configuration for closing an internal compartment, and to allow the release and opening thereof only when certain conditions are met.
  • In more detail, and according to conventional methods in the sector, doors are provided with a handle arranged along the outer face of the door, so that it can be grasped as needed by an operator who wants to gain access to the internal compartment.
  • The handle is integral with a vertical bar, which is rotatably supported by the door and which at its ends rigidly supports elements for coupling to respective retention means, which are anchored to the frame of the vehicle (above and below the door).
  • When the door is arranged in the configuration for closing the compartment, such elements can thus be engaged with the respective retention means, in order to stably lock the door.
  • Vice versa, by grasping and gripping the handle, the operator can pull one end toward him/her, causing the rotation of the bar and the disengagement of the coupling elements from the retention means. By subsequently exerting an additional traction on the handle, the door opens, thus obtaining the possibility of accessing the compartment.
  • In devices of the type described above, adapted contrivances are usually provided in order to prevent the accidental release of the door (the unwanted rotation of the bar and of the handle), which could otherwise occur even during the movement of the vehicle, with evident serious consequences.
  • The free rotation of the handle (which as has been seen is necessary in order to impose the disengagement of the bar and of the door from the retention means and from the surrounding frame of the vehicle) is prevented by a button, which is shaped and arranged so as to usually be in interference, with an edge thereof, with the trajectory of a respective plate, formed by the handle, obstructing its rotation and so obstructing the release of the door.
  • Only with preliminary pressing of the button, which causes a temporary partial rotation thereof (and moves the above mentioned edge away from the plate), can the handle rotate freely, and thus permit the release of the door.
  • In other implementation solutions, which have no button that can be selectively actuated, the function performed thereby is ensured by an end portion of the handle, which can rotate with respect to the rest of the handle, about an axis parallel to that of the bar, and which can determine the moving away of an element placed to interfere with the rotation of the handle.
  • So in these latter implementation solutions, in order to gain access to the door the operator does not have to press a button, but exert a preliminary traction force on the above mentioned end portion of the handle.
  • Such implementation solutions are not devoid of drawbacks, however.
  • In fact, owing to the shape structure and the reciprocal arrangement of the elements involved, and to the respective resistance factors, the force that the operator has to exert (a pressure in order to actuate the button or a traction in order to move the end portion of the handle), is often considerable.
  • Obviously this is very unwelcome, making the use of the conventional assemblies rather impractical and inconvenient.
  • Furthermore, the conventional assemblies are rather lacking in versatility: in fact, in some specific applications the ability to obtain the release by way of a pressing action is preferable over the other solution described, in which the release is obtained by way of traction, or vice versa.
  • Occasionally, it is the specific operating conditions that arise during use (or a malfunction) that render the selected implementation option, which was optimal up until then, no longer adapted to the circumstances.
  • Therefore, whatever the assembly marketed, it is still found to be inadequate for some applications or when peculiar working conditions arise.
  • Finally, it must be noted that in both of the implementation solutions the locking of the door is entrusted solely to an element placed to interfere with the trajectory of a corresponding plate. Following the prolonged and repeated use of the handle, the stresses concentrated at the point of contact between the above mentioned components can thus easily result in damage and breakage.
  • DE2205245 discloses a revolving rod lock for swing doors of motor vehicle bodies, with a supply lockable swivel lock, which is secured in the closed position by means of a jack whose opening movement is blocked, whereby a key operation lock plate by means of a interior opening handle is displaced for controlling a pawl in the release position.
  • EP2775073 discloses an assembly for unlocking the door of vehicles, which comprises a base which can be stably coupled to the door, and a handle which is fixed to at least one bar, which in turn can be coupled in a rotatable manner to the door and which rigidly supports respective means of anchoring to the frame of the vehicle. The handle is rotatable at least from a secured configuration, in which it is substantially facing and proximate to the base and in which the anchoring means can be engaged with the frame of the vehicle, to at least one released configuration, in which it is at least partially lifted from the base and in which the anchoring means can be disengaged from the frame of the vehicle, in order to allow the free rotation and the opening of the door, and vice versa.
  • The aim of the present invention is to solve the above mentioned problems, by providing a versatile assembly that is adapted to obtain the release of the door practically, in various applications and under different operating conditions.
  • Within this aim, an object of the invention is to provide an assembly that makes it possible to unlock and open a door, in order to gain access to the internal compartment of the vehicle, in a practical and easy manner.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide an assembly that allows the operator to obtain the release by exerting a slight force.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide an assembly that ensures a high reliability of operation and a reduced risk of breakage or malfunction.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide an assembly that can be easily implemented using elements and materials that are readily available on the market.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide an assembly that is low cost and safely applied.
  • In accordance with the invention, there is provided an assembly for the controlled unlocking of doors of vehicles, as defined in claim 1. Preferred embodiments of the invention are defined in the appended dependent claims.
  • Further characteristics and advantages of the invention will become better apparent from the description of a preferred, but not exclusive, embodiment of the assembly according to the invention, which is illustrated by way of non-limiting example in the accompanying drawings wherein:
    • Figure 1 is a three-quarters perspective front view of a controlled unlocking assembly according to the invention, with the handle in a first active configuration;
    • Figure 2 is a three-quarters perspective front view of the unlocking assembly in Figure 1, with some outer components removed;
    • Figure 3 is a front elevation view of the unlocking assembly in Figure 2;
    • Figure 4 is a sectional view of Figure 3, taken along the line IV-IV;
    • Figure 5 is the same cross-section as Figure 4, in a different arrangement of an inner element;
    • Figure 6 is the same cross-section as in Figure 4, with the handle in a second active configuration;
    • Figure 7 is a side elevation view of the unlocking assembly in Figure 1, with the handle in the second active configuration;
    • Figure 8 is a three-quarters perspective rear view of the additional actuation element;
    • Figure 9 is a three-quarters perspective rear view of the locking button;
    • Figure 10 is a three-quarters perspective front view of a further internal component;
    • Figure 11 is a three-quarters perspective front view of the locking button and of the internal component in Figure 10;
    • Figure 12 is a three-quarters perspective front view of part of the additional actuation element, of the locking button and of the internal component in Figure 10;
    • Figure 13 shows the application of the controlled unlocking assembly according to the invention, on the door of a vehicle.
  • With reference to the figures, the reference numeral 1 generally designates an assembly for the controlled unlocking of doors A of vehicles (typically for professional use), of the type of vans, trucks, lorries, semi-trailer trucks, trailers and the like.
  • The use of the assembly 1 for the release of doors mounted on means of transport of the type indicated above thus constitutes the preferred application of the invention, and constant reference shall be made to it in the present discussion. At the same time, it should be noted that the possibility is not ruled out of using (while remaining within the scope of protection claimed herein) the assembly 1 according to the invention in different environments and/or for different types of vehicles, according to specific requirements.
  • In any case, the assembly 1 comprises a base 2 that can be stably coupled to the door A and a handle 3 that can be fixed to at least one bar B, which in turn is designed to be rotatably coupled to the door A and to support respective means of anchoring to the frame of the vehicle (above and below the door A).
  • For example, and according to substantially conventional methods, such anchoring means can comprise pawls, hooks etc, which are designed to engage stably with retainer elements such as brackets and locators fixed to the frame of the vehicle, above and below the door A.
  • The bar B can be stably and rigidly inserted in a duct 3a formed by the handle 3 (and optionally be, in turn, part of the assembly 1 according to the invention, while remaining within the scope of protection claimed herein).
  • The handle 3 is mounted so that it can rotate with respect to the base 2, so as to be able to rotate between at least one locked configuration, in which it faces and is proximate to the base 2 (as in the accompanying figures), and a released configuration, in which the handle 3 is partially spaced apart from the base 2 and partially rotated with respect to the locked configuration.
  • In the locked configuration, and obviously when the door A is placed to close the internal compartment of the vehicle, the anchoring means can be engaged with the frame of the vehicle, so as to ensure the locking of the door A. Vice versa, in the released configuration, the anchoring means are disengaged from the frame of the vehicle (since the rotation of the bar B determines the distancing thereof from the frame of the vehicle), in order to allow the free rotation and opening of the door A.
  • Furthermore, the base 2 is rotatably coupled to a locking button 4, which can move reversibly, in a first release method determined by a direct pressure exerted on the locking button 4, from a first angular position, to a second angular position.
  • In the first angular position (such as for example in Figures 4 and 5), the locking button 4 is kept in interference with the rotation of the handle 3, in order to prevent the opening of the door A, while in the second angular position (Figure 6), obtainable by exerting a pressure on the locking button 4, the latter is disengaged from the handle 3, and does not oppose its rotation (and the opening of the door A).
  • Thus, in the first angular position the button 4 prevents any accidental releases owing to impacts and stresses against the base 2 or the handle 3, which could cause the latter to rotate in unwanted fashion (for example during the motion of the vehicle) and thus to result in the disengagement of the bar B and of the anchoring means from the retaining elements.
  • According to the invention, the assembly 1 comprises an additional actuation element 5 for the locking button 4, which a user can thus selectively activate, without acting directly on the locking button 4, in order to reversibly actuate the transition of the latter from the first angular position to the second angular position.
  • This makes it possible therefore from this point onward to achieve the set aim, in that the additional actuation element 5 makes it possible to define a second release method of the handle 3 (and of the door A), and thus to increase the versatility of the assembly 1. In fact in addition to being able to directly press the locking button 4 (in the first release method), the user can act on the element 5 (for example by exerting a traction force, as will be seen in the following paragraphs).
  • In particular, in an embodiment of significant practical interest, proposed by way of non-limiting example of the application of the invention, the handle 3 comprises a main segment 3b, which is rotatably coupled to the base 2 about a main rotation axis C, and the additional actuation element 5 introduced earlier.
  • In fact, as can also be seen from the accompanying figures, in the embodiment described herein the additional actuation element 5 is constituted substantially by a grip, which is rotatably coupled to the main segment 3b of the handle 3 about a further rotation axis D, parallel to the main axis C.
  • As can be seen from Figure 12, the rotary mating with the main segment is obtained by way of a pin 3c (arranged along the further axis D) formed by the handle 3, interposed between the main segment 3b and the additional actuation element 5 (the grip). Furthermore, first springs 3d are preferably wound along the pin 3c, for elastically keeping the handle 3 in the reciprocal operating arrangement in Figure 4 (until the intervention of the user).
  • The grip is functionally associated with the locking button 4 by way of transmission means 6, in order to offer the user the possibility of obtaining the rotation of the locking button 4 from the first angular position to the second, not only by way of a direct pressure exerted on the locking button 4, but also following a traction exerted on the grip.
  • It should be noted moreover that the user can also decide to bring the locking button 4 from the first angular position to the second, by exerting simultaneously a pressure on the button 4 and a traction on the grip (thus defining in fact a third release method of the handle 3, which can be adopted according to specific requirements).
  • In the preferred embodiment, proposed in these pages by way of non-limiting example of the application of the invention, the transmission means 6 comprise a contoured body 7, which oscillates about a working axis E parallel to the main axis C, on the opposite side with respect to the further axis D.
  • On opposite sides the body 7 can be engaged with the grip and with the locking button 4, in order to cause, indirectly, the rotation of the locking button 4 from the first angular position to the second angular position, following a traction exerted on the grip and the consequent oscillation of the body 7.
  • With further reference to the preferred, non-limiting embodiment of the application of the invention, the locking button 4 is provided with an enlarged protrusion 8 which defines an outer surface 8a, facing away with respect to the base 2.
  • Therefore, right on the outer surface 8a, the user can directly exert a pressing action, in order to actuate (make rotate about an actuation axis F parallel to the main axis C) the locking button 4 (and cause its transition from the first angular position to the second angular position).
  • Furthermore, in the first angular position an edge 8b of the protrusion 8 is elastically kept resting on a transverse band 9 formed by the main segment 3b of the handle 3, in order to interfere with the rotation of the handle 3 from the locked configuration to the released configuration, and thus obtain the desired function of locking the door A, until the intentional intervention of the user.
  • Thanks to the movement by the user (by direct pressure and/or indirect traction, as has been seen), the locking button 4 can be brought to the second angular position, in which the edge 8b is spaced apart from the tongue 9, and thus permits the free rotation of the handle 3 (and the opening of the door A).
  • Conveniently, the additional actuation element 5 (the grip) comprises a crossmember 10, optionally ergonomically contoured, that can be gripped by a user, in order to exert as needed the necessary traction force to release the door A, and at least one lever 11.
  • The lever 11 extends perpendicularly to the crossmember 10 and is rotatably coupled to the main segment 3b (about the further rotation axis D, as indeed is evident for example from Figure 12); it is therefore the lever 11 that can be engaged with the transmission means 6.
  • More specifically, in the embodiment shown in the accompanying figures, such grip is substantially constituted by the crossmember 10 and by two levers 11, which extend perpendicularly from the ends of the crossmember 10 (thus giving the grip a substantial "U"-shape).
  • Each lever 11 is thus kept elastically in contact (by way of for example second springs 11a) with a respective abutment surface 7a defined by the body 7, in order to obtain the oscillation of the latter, pushed by the levers 11, following traction exerted on the grip.
  • Advantageously, the body 7 forms a protruding tongue 7b, which (for example thanks to the action of the second springs 11a just cited) is elastically kept in contact with a respective first appendage 8c that extends from the locking button 4, at the opposite end with respect to the protrusion 8.
  • Thus, a traction exerted on the grip determines, as a consequence, an oscillation of the body 7 which in turn causes the transition of the locking button 4, pushed by the tongue 7b which acts in this case on the first appendage 8c, from the first angular position to the second angular position.
  • Advantageously, the controlled unlocking assembly 1 comprises additional means 12 for locking the handle 3, which in turn can move reversibly from a first angular arrangement to a second angular arrangement.
  • In a similar manner to what was observed for the button 4, in the first angular arrangement the additional locking means 12 are also kept in interference with the rotation of the handle 3, in order to prevent therefore the (accidental) opening of the door A. Furthermore, in the second angular arrangement, obtainable following the direct intervention of the user, the additional locking means 12 are disengaged from the handle 3, and thus permit the opening of the door A and access to the internal compartment of the vehicle.
  • So in fact, the additional locking means 12 cooperate with the button 4 in order to prevent the rotation of the handle 3, thus giving the assembly 1 according to the invention greater effectiveness (with respect to conventional unlocking devices) in reducing the risk of accidental unlocking.
  • In particular, the additional locking means 12 are substantially constituted by at least one hook 13, formed by the body 7. Even more specifically, as can be seen clearly from the accompanying figures, in the preferred embodiment the additional locking means 12 comprise two laterally adjacent hooks 13 (while not ruling out the possibility of using a different number of hooks 13).
  • Upon the transition of the locking button 4 from the first angular position to the second angular position, the hook 13 (or each hook 13) can be automatically moved from the first angular arrangement to the second angular arrangement.
  • In order to obtain the impediment to the rotation, in the first angular arrangement the hook 13 (each hook 13) is elastically kept resting on the above mentioned transverse band 9, on the opposite side with respect to the edge 8b of the protrusion 8. Vice versa, in the second angular arrangement, the hook 13 (each hook 13) is spaced apart from the tongue 9, in order to allow the free rotation of the handle 3.
  • It should be noted that the hooks 13 are conveniently formed by the body 7, and thus their movement is automatically obtained by exerting a traction on the grip, which as has been seen is functionally associated with the body 7.
  • Advantageously, the locking button 4 is provided with a second appendage 8d, which is substantially parallel to the first appendage 8c and faces and is proximate to the tongue 7b of the body 7. Thanks to such specific constructive choice, following pressure exerted on the locking button 4 (for its transition from the first angular position to the second angular position), the automatic transition is also obtained of the hook 13 (of each hook 13), pushed by the second appendage 8d, from the first angular arrangement to the second angular arrangement.
  • Thus, thanks both to a pressure on the button 4 and to a traction of the grip of the handle 3, it is always possible to obtain the simultaneous movement of the button 4 and of the hook 13 (or of the hooks 13), so as to obtain complete freedom of movement for the handle 3 and the door A.
  • In a possible embodiment of the assembly 1 according to the invention, the base 2 is a plate (or the like) which is applied externally to the door A, and the handle 3, as is the bar B and the other components of the assembly 1 according to the invention, is arranged outside the door A, and protruding therefrom.
  • In the embodiment proposed in the accompanying figures, which does not exhaust the possible constructive variations of the assembly 1 according to the invention, while remaining within the scope of protection claimed herein, the base 2 is provided with a flat bottom 2a and four perimetric raised lips 2b (from which a profile 2c can further protrude perpendicularly).
  • This makes it possible therefore to define a sort of tub, which can be arranged stably in an opening, which is provided along the outer face of the door A. As can be seen from the figures, the tub also defines a recess for accommodating the handle 3, at least in the locked configuration.
  • In such embodiment, in the locked configuration the handle 3 (as with the other components associated therewith) is substantially recessed in the door A, and does not protrude externally therefrom.
  • Conveniently, in order to limit access to the compartment closed by the door A to the driver/owner only or in any case to authorized persons, the unlocking assembly 1 according to the invention comprises a key-operated mechanism 14, which can move between a first arrangement, locking the handle 3, and a second arrangement, of free movement of the handle 3.
  • In the preferred embodiment, which is not limiting of the application of the invention, the mechanism 14 comprises a central unit 15, which rotates about a central axis G that is substantially perpendicular to the base 2 (and optionally usually closed by a protective flap).
  • The central unit 15 is provided with a contoured slot 15a, in which a key can be inserted (in order to rotate the central unit 15 about the central axis G).
  • Furthermore, a latch 16 extends from the central unit 15 and is arranged, in the first configuration (Figure 5), to obstruct the rotation of the locking button 4 and of the handle 3; by using the right key, to be inserted in the contoured slot 15a, the user can rotate the central unit 15 to bring the latch 16 to the second configuration, in which it is spaced apart from the locking button 4, for the free movement of the handle 3. Obviously, it should be noted that in addition to the transition of the latch 16 to the second configuration, in order to be able to rotate the handle 3 it will be necessary to act directly or indirectly on the button 4 and optionally on the additional locking means 12.
  • Operation of the assembly according to the invention is the following. When the door A is arranged to close the inner compartment of the vehicle, and the handle 3 is completely accommodated in the tub (or in any case facing and proximate to the base 2), and therefore arranged in the locked configuration, the anchoring means supported by the bar B are engaged with the frame of the vehicle, and prevent the opening of the door A.
  • In order to be able to move the door A and access the compartment, the user must first insert the key in the slot 15a, in order to rotate, together with the key, the latch 16, thus bringing it to the second configuration and thus removing the first obstacle to the movement of the handle 3.
  • In addition to acting on the key-operated mechanism 14 (the presence of which is optional, the provision being possible of assemblies 1 according to the invention without it), as has previously been seen the user has to bring the locking button 4 to the second angular position, in which it does not oppose the free rotation of the handle 3. The rotation of the handle 3 in fact makes it possible to disengage the bar B from the frame of the vehicle, and thus to open the door A.
  • Thus in order to proceed in this manner, the assembly 1 according to the invention conveniently offers two different possibilities. First of all, the user can directly press the outer surface 8a of the protrusion 8 formed by the button 4; furthermore, the user can pull the additional actuation element 5 (the grip of the handle 3) toward him/herself (making it rotate).
  • In fact, by way of the transmission means 6 (the body 7) the grip is functionally associated with the button 4, and thus the rotation of the latter can also be obtained without a direct pressure, but by simply acting on the additional actuation element 5.
  • In fact, the assembly 1 according to the invention thus offers two different release methods of the handle 3, each one of which can be adopted indifferently by the user as a function of the specific application (which could indeed make one method preferable over the other) or when peculiar operating conditions arise.
  • This makes the assembly 1 according to the invention extremely versatile, thus achieving the set aim.
  • Moreover, the methods described above are undoubtedly simple and easy, giving high practicality of use to the assembly 1 according to the invention.
  • Furthermore, it should be noted that the user also has a third method of release of the handle 3: he/she can in fact simultaneously press the button 4 and exert a traction action on the grip of the handle 3.
  • Such method requires less effort, because of the combined effect of the two actions, and thus it can be found to undoubtedly meet with the approval of the user, as well as contributing to the versatility of the invention.
  • The presence of the additional locking means 12 further make it possible to offer greater effectiveness in preventing accidental release (by also relying on the hooks 13 in order to interfere with the rotation of the handle 3). Furthermore, it makes it possible to divide the force to which the handle 3 and the other elements involved are subjected (in the event of impacts and stresses) over a greater number of elements: the assembly 1 according to the invention is thus capable of ensuring high mechanical strength and of withstanding loads and stresses, even if considerable, without requiring overdimensioning of portions of the handle 3, of the button 4 or of the hooks 13, while still guarding against (or in any case reducing) the risk that such loads and stresses are capable of causing damage or the opening of the door A by forcing the restraints provided.
  • In practice it has been found that the assembly according to the invention fully achieves the set aim, in that the presence of the additional actuation element, which can be selectively activated for the reversible actuation of the transition of the locking button from the first angular position, in which it is kept in interference with the rotation of the handle, to the second angular position, in which it is disengaged from the handle 3, makes it possible to obtain an assembly that is versatile and adapted to obtain the release of the door A in a practical manner in every application and for any operating condition.
  • The invention, thus conceived, is susceptible of numerous modifications and variations, all of which are within the scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
  • In the embodiments illustrated, individual characteristics shown in relation to specific examples may in reality be substituted with other, different characteristics, existing in other embodiments.
  • In practice, the materials employed, as well as the dimensions, may be any according to requirements and to the state of the art.
  • Where technical features mentioned in any claim are followed by reference signs, those reference signs have been included for the sole purpose of increasing the intelligibility of the claims and accordingly, such reference signs do not have any limiting effect on the interpretation of each element identified by way of example by such reference signs.
