Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Synthese von gesättigten Carbonsäureestern, wobei entsprechende C1 verkürzte Alkene mit einem Alkohol in Gegenwart von Kohlendioxid und einem Katalysator auf Rutheniumbasis umgesetzt werden.
Description
Verfahren zur Synthese von gesättigten Carbonsäureestern
Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Synthese von gesättigten Carbonsäureestern, wobei entsprechende C1 verkürzte Alkene (Olefine) mit einem Alkohol in Gegenwart von
Kohlendioxid und einem Katalysator auf Rutheniumbasis umgesetzt werden.
Die Alkoxycarbonylierung ist eine chemische Reaktion von Olefinen mit Kohlenmonoxid und Alkoholen zu den entsprechenden C1 -verlängerten Carbonsäureestern. Diese Reaktion wird bereits im sogenannten Lucite Alpha Prozess unter Verwendung von Palladiumkatalysatoren und in Gegenwart von Methansulfonsäure in industriellem Maßstab zur Produktion vom Methylpropionsäurester als Vorstufe für Methylmethacrylat (100000 t/Jahr) angewendet (WO 201 1083305 A1 ). Weiterhin wird sie angewendet zur Produktion anderer Carbonsäureester die als Detergenzien (z. B. Ethoxylate) oder nach deren Hydrierung als Alkohole Verwendung finden. Von I. Fleischer, R. Jennerjahn, D. Cozzula, R. Jackstell, R. Franke, M. Beller, Chem. Sus. Ghem, 2013, 6, 3 ,417-420 sind Verfahren beschrieben worden, die als palladiumkatalysierte Alkoxycarbonylierungen ablaufen, wobei Palladiumhydridspezies als reaktive Katalysatorspezies angenommen werden. Diese Reaktionen werden in Gegenwart von Brönstedtsäuren als Cokatalysatoren durchgeführt, um die Pd-Hydridspezies zu generieren (z. B. p-Toluolsulfonsäure oder Methansulfonsäure). Abgesehen von ökonomischen Gründen, da Palladiumkatalysatoren kostenintensiv sind, ist der Einsatz der Säuren auch problematisch aufgrund von Korrosionsprobiemen in größeren kontinuierlichen Anlagen.
Mit Ruthenium als Katalysatormetall und imidazolbasierten Liganden ist die CO freie Alkoxycarbonylierung von Olefinen mit Alkyl/Arylformiaten 2012 beschrieben durch K. Manabe et al. (H. Konishi, T. Ueda, T. Muto, K. Manabe, Org. Lett. 2012, 14, 4722-4725). Hier werden sehr hohe Rutheniummengen von 15 mol % (bezogen auf das Olefin ) verwendet.
Unter Verwendung von Kupfer- oder Eisenkatalysatoren sind Hydrocarboxylierungen von ungesättigten Verbindungen mit C02 für Alkine und aromatische Styrenderivate literaturbekannt. Nachteilig ist die Verwendung überstöchiometrischer Mengen von luftempfindlichen und teuren Reduktionsmitteln (z. B. Silane oder Grignardreagenzien, ZnEt2, AIEt3). Außerdem erfordert die Generierung der freien Carbonsäuren die Verwendung von Säure und zur Generierung der Ester auch noch Alkylierungsmittel wie z. B. Mel (T. Fujihara, T. Xu, K. Semba, J. Terao, Y. Tsuji, Angewandte Chemie International Edition 201 1 , 50, 523- 527; M. D. Greenhalgh, S. P. Thomas, J. Am. Chom. Soc. 2012).
Die Aufgabe der Erfindung besteht darin, ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von gesättigten Carbonsäureestern zur Verfügung zu stellen, das es ermöglicht das Reaktionsprodukt in einem Schritt aus entsprechenden Oiefinen und Alkoholen direkt und in guten Ausbeuten kostengünstig herzustellen, wobei die Entstehung von Nebenprodukten möglichst gering gehalten werden soll.
Es 'wurde gefunden, dass diese Aufgabe durch homogene Katalyse mittels eines katalytischen Systems auf Rutheniumbasis gelöst werden kann, wobei entsprechende C1 verkürzte Alkene (Olefine) mit einem Alkohol in Gegenwart von Kohlendioxid und dem Katalysator auf Rutheniumbasis umgesetzt werden.
Überraschend wurde festgestellt, dass von verschiedenen Übergangsmetallen nur
Rutheniumkomplexe aktiv in der Reaktion zu entsprechenden Estern sind. Andere Metallkatalysatoren führen nur Hydrierungen zum Alkan und/oder Isomerisierungen zu internen Alkenen durch.
Der beim erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren verwendete Rutheniumkatalysator wird bevorzugt in Form einer Vorläuferverbindung als Rutheniumkomplexverbindung eingesetzt, die gegebenenfalls durch einen oder mehrere weitere Liganden koordiniert ist. Die Liganden sind bevorzugt ausgewählt aus der Gruppe bestehend aus Kohlenmonoxid, trivalenten Phosphorverbindungen, Halogenatomen und/oder Aminen, Olefinen wie Cyclooctadien, Oxiden, Carbanionen wie Methallyl oder Cyclopentadienylliganden (Cp*) sowie Hydriden. Besonders bevorzugt ist der im erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren verwendete Katalysator ein Komplex aus Ruthenium und Kohlenmonoxid.
Phosphorverbindungen oder andere Liganden können gegebenenfalls in einer Vorreaktion mit dem Rutheniumkomplex kombiniert werden oder sie werden in situ zur Reaktion gegeben. Bevorzugte Phosphorliganden sind z.B. Phosphane, Phosphite, Phosphinite oder Phosphonite. Diese Liganden können ein- oder zweizähnige Liganden sein.
Besonders bevorzugte Phosphorliganden sind die nachfolgend aufgeführten Verbindungen: PCy3, P„Bu3, PPh3 sowie
Oxide sind z.B. Ru02. Als Carbanionen fungieren vorzugsweise Methallyl-,
Cyclopentadienylanionen. in einer bevorzugten Ausführungsvariante des Verfahrens weist der Katalysator mindestens Triruthenium dodecacarbonyl [ u3(CO)12] oder Bis(2-methylal!yl)(1.5-cyclooctadien) ruthenium(il) [Ru(Me-aliyl)2(COD)] auf.
L1 , L2, Xanthphos und die einfachen monodentaten Liganden sind kommerziell verfügbar z. B. bei Strem. Der Ligand L3 wurde analog der Vorschrift (L. Wu, I.Fleischer, R. Jackstell, M. Beller, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2013, 135,10, 3989-3996) hergestellt.
Beispiele für Alkene (Olefine), die im erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren zu entsprechend C1 verlängerten gesättigten Carbonsäureestern umgesetzt werden können, schließen Verbindungen mit 1 , 2 oder mehr Doppelbindungen ein. Vorzugsweise werden Alkene von 2 bis zu 20 C-Atomen eingesetzt. Die Alkene können geradkettig oder verzweigt sein oder weisen eine cyclische Struktur auf und sind ggf. substituiert. Als Substituenten kommen Ester-, Aryl-, Nitro-, Hydroxyl-, Nitril-, Ethergruppen oder Halogenatome in Frage. Beispielsweis seien Ethen, Propylen, Buten, Isobuten, Penten, Hexen, Cyclohexen, Hepten, Bicyclo[2.2.1 ]hept-2-en, 1- und 2- Octen, Octa-1 ,7-dien, Allylber.zol, Prop-1-en-2-ylbenzen genannt. Weiterhin sind auch Gemische verschiedener Alkene einsetzbar.
Erfindungsgemäß werden die Alkohole im Überschuss eingesetzt. Die Alkene werden vorzugsweise mit der wenigstens einfachen äquivalenten Menge des jeweiligen Alkohols in Gegenwart des Ru-Katalysators umgesetzt. Die Umsetzung führt zu einem Gemisch aus n/iso C1 verlängerten Carbonsäureestern in Abhängigkeit vom Alken. Als stöchiometrische Nebenprodukte werden in Abhängigkeit vom eingesetzten Alken (Olefin) das jeweilige Alkan und/oder durch Isomerisierungen interne Alkene gebildet.
Der Alkohol fungiert auch als Lösungsmittel. Es kommen vorzugsweise lineare und verzweigte aliphatische Alkohole mit 1 bis 10 Kohlenstoffatomen zum Einsatz, vorzugsweise
Methanol, Phenylmethanol, Ethanol, Propanol, isopropanol und Butanol. Besonders bevorzugt wird Methanol im erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren verwendet, so dass der Methylester als Hauptprodukt entsteht.
Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren erfolgt in Lösung gegebenenfalls unter Zugabe von weiteren organischen Lösungsmitteln. Bevorzugt handelt es sich bei den Lösungsmitteln um protische und aprotische Lösungsmittel, z.B Amide, wie N-Methyl-pyrrolidon (NMP), Dimethylacetamid, Formamid, Methylformamid und Dimethylformamid. Des Weiteren können auch weitere aprotische unpolare Lösungsmittel, wie Alkane, z.B. Octan; Ether, z.B. Dioxan oder Tetra hydrofu ran oder aprotische polare Lösungsmittel wie Ketone, z.B. Aceton; Propyplencarbonat, Sulfolan, DMSO, Diglyme, Trig!yme und Tetraglyme oder Gemische davon, eingesetzt werden oder auch aromatische Lösungsmittel wie Toluol, Benzol oder Xylol einzeln oder im Gemisch untereinander oder mit den anderen Lösungsmitteln. Besonders bevorzugt wird NMP als Lösungsmittel im erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren verwendet.
Darüber hinaus können weitere Zusatzstoffe, allein oder in Kombination mit dem Lösungsmittel, im erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren eingesetzt werden, die die Bildung von unerwünschten Nebenprodukten vermindern können. Bevorzugt kommen anorganische oder organische Halogenverbindungen zum Einsatz. So können z.B. anorganische Halogenverbindungen der 1. und 2. Hauptgruppe im erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren verwendet werden, wie LiCI, LiBr, LiJ, NaCI, KCl, CsCI oder SnCI2. Organische Halogenverbindungen, die erfolgreich eingesetzt werden können, sind z.B. Tetrabutylammoniumchiorid (NnBu4CI), Tetrabutylammoniumbromid (NnBu4Br) oder 1-Butyl- 3-methyIimidazoliniumchlorid ([Bmim]CI). Besonders bevorzugt sind LiCI und/oder [BmimJCI.
Im erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren werden vorzugsweise zunächst der Katalysator mit dem Alken und einem primären oder sekundären Alkohol, optional mit einem weiteren Lösungsmittel und/oder Zusatzstoff, zusammengegeben. Anschließend wird Kohlendioxid aufgepresst und erwärmt.
Reaktionsdruck und Temperatur hängen voneinander ab. Sie werden vom Fachmann in Abhängigkeit der anzuwendenden Technologie (Reaktortyp, Druckeinrichtungen usw.) entsprechend ausgewählt, so dass die katalytische Aktivität für den Katalysator optimal ist.
Im erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren erfolgt die Reaktion vorzugsweise bei Temperaturen von 100 bis 200 °C, besonders bevorzugt bei Temperaturen von 130 bis 170 °C. Überraschend

Die Ausbeute an C9-Ester beträgt 4% mit einem n/ -Verhältnis von 59:41.
Beispiel 8
Die folgenden Beispiele zeigen die Rutheniumkatalysierte Alkoxycarbonylierung verschiedenen Alkoholen (isopropanol und Phenylmethanol) und Ru-Katalysatoren zu entsprechenden Carbonsäureestern (Schema 1) unter Zusatz von [BmimjCI.

Danach wird der Autoklav abgekühlt und das Gas abgelassen. Nach der Zugabe des internen Standards (Isooctan, 1 ,0 mL; 0.7 g; 12 mmol) wird die Reaktionsmischung gaschromatographisch analysiert. Die Ausbeute an Isopropyl- cyclohexancarboxylat beträgt 75%.
Beispiel 8.2: Gleichung 2, Schema 1 : Ein 100-mL Autoklav wird mit Ru3(CO)12 (83.9 mg; 100 Mmol) befüllt und [Bmim]CI (3.5 g; 20,00 mmol). Phenyimethanol (20 mL) und Cyclohexen
(1.0 mL; 820 mg; 10 mmol) werden hinzugegeben, anschließend wird Kohlendioxid (40 bar) aufgepresst. Die Reaktionsmischung wird auf 160 °C erwärmt und 20 Stunden bei dieser Temperatur gerührt. Danach wird der Autoklav abgekühlt und das Gas abgelassen. Nach der Zugabe des internen Standards (Isooctan, 1 ,0 mL; 0.7 g; 12 mmol) wird die Reaktionsmischung gaschromatographisch analysiert. Die Ausbeute an Benzyl- cyciohexancarboxylat beträgt 70%.
Beispiel 8.3: Gleichung 3, Schema 1 : Ein 100-mL Autoklav wird mit Ru(methylaliyl)2(COD) (92 mg; 300 μιηοΙ) befüllt und [Bmim]CI (3.5 g; 20,00 mmol). Isopropanol (20 mL) und
Cyclohexen (1.0 mL; 820 mg; 10 mmol) werden hinzugegeben, anschließend wird Kohlendioxid (40 bar) aufgepresst. Die Reaktionsmischung wird auf 160 °C erwärmt und 20
Stunden bei dieser Temperatur gerührt. Danach wird der Autoklav abgekühlt und das Gas abgelassen. Nach der Zugabe des internen Standards (Isooctan, 1 ,0 mL; 0.7 g; 12 mmol) wird die Reaktionsmischung gaschromatographisch analysiert. Die Ausbeute an Isopropy! cyclohexancarboxyiat beträgt 67%.
Claims
1. Verfahren zur Synthese von gesättigten Carbonsäureestern,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass
entsprechende Alkene (Olefine) mit einem primären oder sekundären Alkohol in Gegenwart von einem Katalysator auf Rutheniumbasis und Kohlendioxid umgesetzt werden.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 , dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Katalysator auf Rutheniumbasis ein Rutheniumkomplex ist, der durch mindestens einen Liganden koordiniert ist, wobei die Liganden ausgewählt sind aus der Gruppe bestehend aus Kohlenmonoxid. Halogenatomen, Aminen, Oxiden, Carbanionen, Cyclopentadienyi-, Cyclooctadienyiliganden, Hydriden und/oder trivalenten Phosphorverbindungen,
3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Katalysator ein Komplex aus Ruthenium und Kohlenmonoxid oder Ru(Me-allyl)2(COD) ist.
4. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Reaktion in Gegenwart eines Lösungsmittels durchgeführt wird.
5. Verfahren nach Anspruch 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Lösungsmittel ausgewählt ist aus der Gruppe umfassend protische Lösungsmittel wie Alkohole; aprotische Lösungsmittel wie Amide, Alkane, Cycloalkane, cyclische Ester, Ether und Ketone und/oder aromatische Lösungsmittel wie Toluol, Benzol, Xylol.
6. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass eine anorganische Halogenverbindung der 1. oder 2. Hauptgruppe und/oder eine organische Halogenverbindung zugegeben wird.
7. Verfahren nach Anspruch 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die anorganische Halogenverbindung ausgewählt ist aus der Gruppe, die aus LiCI, LiBr, Lil, NaCI, KCl, CsCI und SnCI2 besteht oder Gemische davon,
8. Verfahren nach Anspruch 6 oder 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die organische Halogenverbindung ausgewählt ist aus der Gruppe, die aus Tetrabutylammoniumchiorid, Tetrabutylammoniumbromid und 1-Butyl-3- methylimidazoliniumchlorid besteht oder Gemische davon.
Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Reaktion bei einer Temperatur von 100 °C bis 200 °C durchgeführt wird, bevorzugt bei 130°C bis 170 °C.
Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 9, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Reaktion bei einem Druck von 1 bis 80 bar erfolgt,
