Description

The present invention relates to the protection of electrical installations and more specifically to the connection to the electrical circuit of a cartridge comprising an active protection component.

The active component of a surge arrester can be a varistor or a spark gap. The varistors, or variable resistors, current are composed of zinc oxide assembled by sintering in the form of ceramic block. A varistor block has a nonlinear voltage / current characteristic: beyond a certain voltage threshold, the impedance of the varistor drops to allow the discharge of the current responsible for the overvoltage. When the voltage returns to its normal level, the impedance of the varistor returns to its idle state.

The spark gaps when they consist of two electrodes facing each other in any medium (ambient air or specific gas). Beyond a certain voltage value of current, an electric arc is established between the electrodes which allows to evacuate the surge.

In a surge arrester, the spark gap or the varistor are frequently arranged in a cartridge also comprising two connectors, electrically connected to the electrical installation to be protected.

Le document EP 1 650 771 A1 montre une cartouche selon le préambule de la revendication 1.When a very high current flows through the electrical circuit, electromagnetic forces are generated and can cause the cartridge to tear. It is known from the prior art mechanically strengthen the connection between the cartridge and the electrical installation to overcome the forces leading to the tearing of the cartridge. The risk of tearing is thus reduced but is not canceled. In addition, the mechanical reinforcements of the connections between the cartridge and the electrical circuit are expensive and cause an increase in the duration of replacement of the cartridge. The document EP 1 650 771 A1 shows a cartridge according to the preamble of claim 1.

The present invention aims to solve all or part of the disadvantages mentioned above.

  • un composant actif de protection comprenant une première borne et une seconde borne ;
To this end, the present invention relates to a protective device cartridge of an electrical installation intended to be attached to a base, the cartridge comprising:
  • an active protection component comprising a first terminal and a second terminal;

the first connector and the second connector being arranged to allow the connection of the cartridge on the base in an insertion direction,
the first bearing portion and the second bearing portion having a determined spacing in a direction transverse to the direction of insertion,
characterized in that the first electrical circuit portion includes a first end point in the direction transverse to the insertion direction and the second electrical circuit portion comprises a second end point in the direction transverse to the direction of insertion, the first end point and the second end point having a determined spacing in the direction transverse to the direction of insertion, greater than the spacing in the direction transverse to the direction of insertion between the first portion of support and the second support portion,
in that the first bearing portion is disposed between the second bearing portion and the second end point in the direction transverse to the direction of insertion,
and in that the second support portion is disposed between the first end point and the first support portion in the direction transverse to the direction of insertion.

Thanks to the arrangements according to the invention, the electrical flow through the circuit portion of the base and passing through the active component via the connectors induces magnetic fields between the cartridge and the base which thus attract. Thus, the phenomena of tearing of the cartridge during the passage of a high current in the circuit are avoided or limited, the cartridge is instead attracted to the base. The mechanical reinforcements of the connections between the cartridge and the base are no longer necessary.

This protection device comprises a base 15 on which is releasably connected a cartridge 2.

The cartridge 2 comprises an active component, here a varistor 1, a first connector 7 forming a first portion of the electrical circuit and a second connector 9 forming a second portion of the electrical circuit. The active component could also be for example a spark gap. The varistor 1 comprises two terminals 3, 5 to which are connected the electrical circuit portions of the connectors 7, 9. At a first end, the connector 7 is connected to the varistor 1 by the terminal 3. At a second end, the connector 7 comprises a support portion, here a pin 11 intended to come into contact with the base 15. At a first end, the connector 9 is connected to the varistor 1 by the terminal 5. At a second end, the connector 9 comprises a bearing portion, here a pin 13 intended to come into contact with the base 15. The first electrical circuit portion comprises a first end point 8 and the second electrical circuit portion comprises a second end point 10 .

The base 15 comprises a first area 19 and a second area 21. The first area 19 comprises an electrical contact 23 and the second area 21 comprises an electrical contact 25.

The cartridge 2 can be removably attached to the base 15. Indeed, the pins 11 and 13 are arranged to be electrically connected to the electrical contacts 23 and 25 of the tracks 19 and 21 of the base 15.

The electrical contacts 23, 25 each comprise an elastic contact device 24, 26, providing the electrical connection between the electrical contacts 23, 25 and the pins 11, 13. In addition, the installation and removal of the cartridge 2 in the base 15 is facilitated by these elastic contact devices 24, 26.

The cartridge is adapted to be attached to the base in an insertion direction 20, substantially parallel to the pins 11, 13.

In a direction transverse to the insertion direction 20, the electrical contacts 23 and 25 have a gap smaller than the gap between the end points 8 and 10 of the electrical circuit portions of the connectors 7, 9.

Les bornes 3 et 5 du composant actif 1 présentent sensiblement le même décalage selon l'axe z.The pin 11 of the connector 7 is disposed between the pin 13 and the end point 10 in the direction transverse to the direction of insertion 20. The pin 11 is electrically connected to the electrical contact 23 of the range 19. The pin 13 of the connector 9 is disposed between the end point 8 and the pin 11 in the transverse direction 30 to the direction of insertion 20. The pin 13 is electrically connected to the electrical contact 25 of the range 21. The connectors 7 and 9 are cross at a crossing zone 27. At the crossing zone 27, the connectors 7, 9 have an offset along the z axis. The terminals 3 and 5 of the active component 1 have substantially the same offset along the z axis.

L'orientation du segment 29 est sensiblement transversale à la direction d'insertion 20.A first segment 29 of the connector 7 defined between the end point 8 and the pin 13 extends opposite the range 19 of the base 15. The orientation of the segment 29 is substantially transverse to the direction of insertion 20 .

L'orientation du segment 31 est sensiblement transversale à la direction d'insertion 20.A segment 31 of the connector 9 defined between the pin 11 and the end point 10 extends opposite the range 21 of the base 15. The orientation of the segment 31 is substantially transverse to the direction of insertion 20.

Thus, during a strong increase in voltage at the cartridge, the current is able to flow through the varistor 1. The current flow is represented by the arrows 33. A very high intensity of current flows therefore the first track 19 of the base 15, passes through the electrical contact 23 and reaches the cartridge by the pin 13. The current flows through the electrical circuit portion of the connector 9, passes through the varistor 1 and then runs through the electrical circuit portion from the connector 7 to the pin 11. The current then passes through the electrical contact 25 to reach the range 21 of the base 15. Magnetic fields are induced by the current flow on the one hand in the ranges 19, 21 and secondly in the portions 29, 31 of the connectors 7, 9. These magnetic fields generate attraction in the direction of insertion 20 between the portion 29 of the connector 7 and the range 19 of the base 15 on the one hand, and between the portion 31 of the connector 9 and the range 21 of the base 15 of somewhere else.

During the passage of a high current, the pin 13 and the electrical contact 23 on the one hand, and the pin 11 and the electrical contact 25 on the other hand repel. The elastic contact devices 24, 26 make it possible to ensure electrical contact between the base 15 and the cartridge 2 even in the case of the passage of a current of high intensity.

The tearing phenomena due to the flow of currents in opposite directions between the portions 29, 31 of the connecting elements 7, 9 and the pads 19, 21 of the base 15 are thus avoided or limited.

Of course, the present invention is not limited to the embodiment described and shown, provided by way of illustrative and non-limiting example. For example, the distance between the connecting elements 7, 9 and the tracks 19, 21 of the base 15 can be modified in order to obtain a more or less strong attraction between the cartridge 2 and the base 15 in case of surge .
