Description

The invention relates to a painting method for painting a component, namely a motor vehicle body component.

When painting motor vehicle body components, several layers of paint are usually applied, namely, among other things, a layer made of a cathode dip paint (KTL), a filler layer, a base coat layer and a clear coat layer on the outside. Furthermore, it is known from the prior art to apply decorative lines, design strips, patterns or graphics to the component. For example, decorative strips are applied to the clear lacquer layer using a brush. After the manually applied decorative strip has dried, a further clear lacquer layer is then applied and baked.

Figure 1 shows an example of the multi-layer structure of such a conventional paint on a motor vehicle body component 1. Thus, the paint consists of a phosphate layer 2, a primer 3 of a cathode dip paint (KTL), a filler 4, a basecoat layer 5, a clear coat layer 6, a pattern 7 (e.g. Decorative strips) and a further clear lacquer layer 8 applied to the pattern 7.

Figure 2 accordingly shows in the form of a flow chart the painting process for painting the paint Figure 1 . The flowchart here begins in a step S1 with the application of the primer 3 from a cathode dip lacquer, but the phosphate layer 2 can still be applied in a preceding method step, which is not shown here is. The filler layer 4 is then applied in a step S2. The basecoat film 5 is then applied in a step S3 and the basecoat is dried in a step S4. After the basecoat has dried, the clearcoat layer 6 is then applied in a step S5. The clear lacquer layer is then baked in a step S6. Then, in a step S7, the pattern 7 is then manually applied, for example in the form of a decorative strip which can be applied manually with a brush. The pattern 7 is then dried in a step S8. Finally, the further clear lacquer layer 8 is then applied in a step S9 and baked in a step S10.

A disadvantage of this known method for applying a pattern (e.g. decorative strips) is first of all the fact that the additional clear lacquer layer 8 is required. Associated with this is the need for a further drying step.

Another disadvantage of the known painting method described above is that the pattern 7 is applied manually. As a rule, cover material (e.g. foils, adhesive tapes) is also required to mask the component surface in accordance with the desired pattern 7, the provision and disposal of the cover material being associated with additional costs. Furthermore, the manual application of the pattern 7 also leads to a relatively large number of errors.

Out DE 10 2010 014 381 A1 a painting process is known in which a pattern is applied directly to the basecoat, ie without a clearcoat in between. However, the pattern becomes one Layer composite formed, which comprises a carrier and a cured lacquer layer. The layer composite is pressed with the side of the hardened lacquer layer onto the base lacquer layer, whereupon the carrier can then be removed. The pattern is therefore not applied in the course of a painting process and is therefore much more complex.

The state of the art should also be pointed out US 2004/0028823 A1 . However, no pattern in the sense of the invention is applied here.

Ferner umfasst der Stand der Technik noch WO 2007/131660 A1 , die Firmendruckschrift "Dürr News Juni 2006 Ausgabe" und DE 10 2010 019 612 A1 sowie GB 2 399 040 A , EP 1 810 757 A1 , WO 2007/131660 A1 , EP 2 367 639 A1 , US 2004/217202 A1 , EP 2 208 541 A1 und WO 02/22281 A2 .The state of the art also includes WO 2007/131660 A1 , the company brochure "Dürr News June 2006 Edition" and DE 10 2010 019 612 A1 such as GB 2 399 040 A , EP 1 810 757 A1 , WO 2007/131660 A1 , EP 2 367 639 A1 , US 2004/217202 A1 , EP 2 208 541 A1 and WO 02/22281 A2 .

Furthermore, the post-published patent application discloses WO 2013/182280 A2 a similar painting process, but which does not affect the painting of a roof spar.

Finally revealed EP 0 822 011 A2 a painting method according to the preamble of claim 1. However, this patent application deals only in general with decorative patterns and does not relate to the painting of partial areas, in particular not on a roof rail of a motor vehicle body.

The object of the invention is therefore to create a correspondingly improved painting process.

This object is achieved by a painting method according to the invention.

The invention encompasses the general technical teaching of applying the pattern to the basecoat without an intermediate clear coat, so that an additional clear coat above the pattern can be dispensed with. In the context of the painting process according to the invention, therefore, preferably only a single clear coat is applied, which not only covers the basecoat, but also the pattern.

The wording of the pattern application used in the context of the invention relates to painting processes, such as printing processes.

According to the invention, the pattern is a partial surface, namely a roof spar of a motor vehicle body which is to be painted in a different color than the other motor vehicle body. The term pattern used in the context of the invention also means that the pattern covers only a partial area of the component surface, i.e. not the entire component surface.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the pattern is applied directly to the basecoat film. This means that between the basecoat layer on the one hand and the pattern on the other hand there is neither a clearcoat layer nor any other layer made of another material.

In a variant of the invention, the basecoat film is only flashed off before the pattern is applied, and the pattern is only flashed off before the clearcoat is applied.

In another variant of the invention, the basecoat film on the other hand, dried before applying the pattern, whereas the pattern is only aired off before the clear lacquer is applied.

Yet another variant of the invention, on the other hand, provides that the basecoat film is flashed off before the pattern is applied, whereas the pattern is intermediately dried before the clearcoat is applied.

Furthermore, there is also the possibility that the basecoat film is intermediately dried before the pattern is applied, and the pattern is also intermediately dried before the clearcoat is applied.

In yet another variant of the invention, it is provided that the basecoat film and the pattern are applied wet-on-wet without drying or flashing off in the meantime. This means that the pattern is already applied at a point in time when the underlying base coat layer has not yet dried completely, so that the wet paint of the pattern meets the still wet paint of the base coat layer, which is why one also calls it "wet-in wet "paint speaks.

Furthermore, there is the possibility within the scope of the invention that the basecoat film, the pattern and the clearcoat film are applied wet-on-wet in a so-called 3-wet process without intermediate drying or flashing off. This means that the liquid lacquer of the pattern is applied at a point in time when the base lacquer layer underneath is not yet completely dry. This also means that the liquid clear coat is applied at a time when the one underneath Lacquer of the pattern has not yet dried completely. In a 3-wet process, the three lacquers (base lacquer, lacquer of the sample and clear lacquer) of the three lacquer layers lying one above the other are therefore at least briefly together in a liquid state.

In one exemplary embodiment of the invention, the basecoat film and the pattern are applied together in a painting booth, in particular in the wet-on-wet process mentioned above, without any intermediate drying or drying.

In another exemplary embodiment of the invention, on the other hand, the pattern and the clear lacquer layer are applied together in a spray booth, in particular in the wet-on-wet process mentioned above, without intermediate drying or drying.

In yet another exemplary embodiment of the invention, the basecoat film, the pattern and the clearcoat film are applied together in a painting booth, in particular in the 3-wet process mentioned above, without any intermediate drying or drying.

However, there is also the possibility that the basecoat, the pattern and / or the clearcoat are applied in several painting booths, which are arranged one behind the other along a painting line.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the basecoat, the pattern and / or the clearcoat are each applied automatically by means of a multi-axis, freely programmable painting robot. Such painting robots are known per se from the prior art and therefore do not have to be described in more detail.

The pattern is applied here by an application device which does not emit a coating agent mist, but rather a narrowly limited jet of coating agent. Such application devices are, for example, from DE 10 2010 019 612 A1 known.

The basecoat layer and the clearcoat layer, however, are preferably applied by a conventional atomizer, such as a rotary atomizer.

It has already been mentioned above that the base lacquer layer, the pattern and the clear lacquer layer preferably consist of wet lacquer. Within the scope of the invention, however, it is also possible in principle to use a powder coating for the basecoat layer, the pattern and / or the clearcoat layer instead of wet lacquer.

Figure 3 shows a cross-sectional view through a motor vehicle paint applied according to the invention, partially with the paint according to Figure 1 matches, so as to avoid repetition towards the description above Figure 1 is referred to, the same reference numerals being used for corresponding details.

A special feature of this motor vehicle paint applied according to the invention is that the pattern 7 is applied directly to the basecoat layer 5, ie without the intermediate clear coat layer 6, as in the conventional motor vehicle paint Figure 1 .

The motor vehicle paint according to the invention thus has only the clear coat 8, whereas the further clear coat 6 previously required is not required. This is advantageous because it saves two process steps for applying and drying the clear lacquer layer 6.

Figure 4A shows an example of a painting method according to the invention in the form of a flow chart, wherein Figure 4B shows the corresponding structure of a painting system according to the invention.

This flowchart is partially correct with the flowchart out Figure 2 agree, so that to avoid repetition reference is made to the above description, the same reference numerals being used for corresponding details.

After applying the primer 3 and the filler 4 in steps S1 and S2, the basecoat layer 5 is applied in a step S3. For this purpose, the painting system has a separate painting booth 9, in which the basecoat layer 5 is applied by a multi-axis painting robot with a rotary atomizer as an application device.

A conveyor 10, which conveys motor vehicle bodies 11 through the paint shop in the direction of the arrow, runs through the paint booth 1 along a paint line.

In a further step S4, the basecoat layer 5 is then dried in a drying station 12.

Subsequently, the pattern 7 is then applied in a step S5, which takes place in a further painting booth 13. The pattern 7 is also applied here by a multi-axis painting robot which carries an application device which does not produce a coating mist, but rather a sharply delimited coating agent jet, such an application device, for example, from DE 10 2010 019 612 A1 is known.

In a step S6, the pattern 7 is then dried in a drying station 14.

Following the drying of the pattern 7, the clear lacquer layer 8 is then applied in a further painting booth in a step S7 15 applied.

Finally, the clear lacquer layer 8 is then baked in a baking station 16 in a step S8.

The Figures 5A and 5B show a modification of the embodiment according to the Figures 4A and 4B , so that to avoid repetition reference is made to the above description, the same reference numerals being used for corresponding details.
