Description

  • The present invention refers to a device equipped with a tank for containing a first substance and suitable for closing a bottle for containing a second substance to be kept separated from the first substance until the moment of the mixing with it.
  • With particular, but not exclusive, reference to the field of pharmaceutical, dietary and cosmetic products, products are known having a so called "extemporaneous" preparation, i.e. products that are made up of a mixture or of a solution of substances that are kept separated until the moment in which they are brought together before such products are used.
  • For such products packs are known comprising a bottle, inside which one of the two substances to be mixed is contained which, generally, is in the form of a liquid, pasta, gel or syrup.
  • The mouth of the bottle is sealingly closed by a container-plug inside which a tank is defined for containing the other one of the two substances to be mixed and which, generally, is in the form of a powder, granules or liquid.
  • The container-plug consists of a tubular body which, at the end facing the bottom of the bottle, is closed by a frangible base and that, at the opposite end, is open. The internal volume of the container-plug defines a tank for containing one substance. The base of the container-plug keeps the substance contained in it separated from the one present in the bottle.
  • A punch or shearer is inserted inside the container-plug in an axially movable manner; the punch or shearer, in turn, consists of a tubular body, the end of which that faces the base of the plug has a profile for perforating, cutting or shearing, and the opposite end of which projects beyond the open end of the container-plug.
  • The punch or shearer is axially movable with respect to the container-plug between a first configuration and a second configuration.
  • In the first configuration, the punch perforating, cutting or shearing profile is retracted inside the container-plug at a certain distance from the integral base of the latter, so that the substance contained in the container-plug itself is kept separated from the one present in the bottle.
  • In the second configuration, the punch perforating, cutting or shearing profile is protracted towards the base of the container-plug which is perforated, cut or sheared by it, so that the substance contained in the container-plug falls into the bottle, mixing with the one contained inside it.
  • Generally, moreover, in known packs a cap is present for covering the end of the container-plug and punch assembly that projects from the bottle.
  • The covering cap can be either of the type which can be removed at the moment of use, so as to allow the access to the container-plug and punch assembly, or of the type which can be screwed onto bottle neck so as to act as a manoeuvring element of the punch itself.
  • Generally, both the container-plug and the punch are made through injection moulding of polymeric material, such as, for example, polyethylene, polypropylene and the like.
  • It is possible for the tubular body and the base that constitute the container-plug to be made as a unique body, wherein the perimetrical edge that joins the base to the corresponding end of the tubular body is weakened, for example through a pre-fracture line or a reduction of the material thickness, so as to facilitate its opening by means of the punch.
  • The punch has the end facing the base of the container-plug that is bevelled, so as to be able to tear the base at a portion of the weakened perimetrical edge thereof.
  • Container-plugs are also known the base of which consists of a lamina or membrane that is impermeable to water vapour or other fluids, which is thermowelded or glued to the perimetrical edge of the respective tubular body, as for example described in IT1362684 or in EP1623932 .
  • These container-plugs of the known type, however, have some drawbacks.
  • In particular, it has been found that known container-plugs do not allow to ensure the insulation of the substance contained in them with respect to the environment outside the tank and, in particular, with respect to the environment inside the bottle, where water vapour or vapour from other fluids is generated, for sufficiently long time periods.
  • The vapours that penetrate into the tank of the container-plug degrade the substance contained in it. The vapours penetrate into the tank both through the lateral wall of the tubular body of the container-plug, and through the frangible base that is constrained to the end of such a tubular body.
  • Indeed, the polymeric material with which the tubular body of the container-plug is made, in any case, has a certain degree of porosity and permeability to the vapours, in particular in relation to the thickness of the material itself.
  • Where, moreover, the frangible base is obtained as a unique body with the tubular body of the container-plug, such porosity and permeability are even greater at the weakened perimetrical edge that joins such a base to the end of the tubular body.
  • Where, on the other hand, the frangible base is exclusively made up of a lamina or a membrane that is thermowelded or glued on the end of the tubular body of the container-plug, over time the vapours can infiltrate through the junction area between the lamina or membrane and the corresponding end of the tubular body.
  • Document WO2006/111803A2 discloses a packaging for extemporaneous products comprising a container of a first substance featuring a mouth, a receptacle of a second substance housed in said mouth, wherein the inner volume of the receptacle is temporarily separated from the inner volume of the container and adapted to be placed in communication with this for mixing the first and second substance to form the product, and an isolating interspace that is defined along at least one portion of the surface delimiting the receptacle.
  • The purpose of the present invention is that of avoiding the drawbacks of the prior art.
  • In such a general purpose, a first purpose of the present invention is that of providing a device that is equipped with a tank for containing a first substance and that is suitable for closing a bottle for containing a second substance to be kept separated from the first substance until the moment of the mixing with it, which makes it possible to improve the insulation of the tank with respect to the environment outside it and, in particular, with respect to the environment inside the bottle.
  • Another purpose of the present invention is that of providing a device that is equipped with a tank for containing a first substance and that is suitable for closing a bottle for containing a second substance to be kept separated from the first substance until the moment of the mixing with it, which is structurally and constructively simple and that can be made with a limited number of operations.
  • Another purpose of the present invention is that of making a device that is equipped with a tank for containing a first substance and that is suitable for closing a bottle for containing a second substance to be kept separated from the first substance until the moment of the mixing with it, which is particularly simple and functional, and has low costs.
  • These purposes according to the present invention are achieved by making a device that is equipped with a tank for containing a first substance and that is suitable for closing a bottle for containing a second substance to be kept separated from the first substance until the moment of the mixing with it, as outlined in claim 1.
  • Further features are provided in the dependent claims. The features and the advantages of the device equipped with a tank for containing a first substance and that is suitable for closing a bottle for containing a second substance to be kept separated from the first substance until the moment of the mixing with it, according to the present invention shall become clearer from the following description, given as an example and not for limiting purposes, with reference to the attached schematic drawings, in which:
    • figure 1 is a side elevation view of a bottle having the closing device according to the present invention applied to it, the closing device being in the position for containing the first substance;
    • figure 2 is a section view of figure 1 according to the plane II-II;
    • figure 3 is a side elevation view of a bottle having the closing device according to the present invention applied to it, the closing device being in the release position of the substance in it contained into the bottle itself;
    • figure 4 is a section view of figure 3 according to the plane IV-IV;
    • figure 5 is a side elevation and exploded view of a bottle and of a closing device thereof according to the present invention;
    • figure 6 is an exploded and section view of the closure cap of the closing device according to the present invention;
    • figures 7 and 8 show a detail respectively of figures 2 and 4 in an enlarged scale.
  • With reference to the attached figures, reference numeral 10 wholly indicates a device that is equipped with a tank for containing a first substance S1 and that is suitable for closing the mouth of a bottle 11 for containing a second substance S2 to be kept separated from the first substance S1 until the moment of the mixing with it.
  • The bottle 11 comprises a container that is closed at the bottom 12 and that projects in a neck 13, at the top of which a mouth 14 is defined.
  • In general terms, the device 10 comprises a closure cap 15 that can be sealingly associated with the mouth 14 and in the internal volume of which a tank 16 is defined for containing the first substance S1.
  • The tank 16 has an end which, considering the device 10 in the configuration in which it is mounted on the bottle 11, faces the bottom 12 of the latter and that is closed by a frangible base 17.
  • The device 10 comprises, moreover, means 18 for breaking the frangible base 17 and which are associated in a movable manner with the closure cap 15 and can be actuated from the outside for breaking the frangible base 17 itself and for the consequent pouring of the substance S1 into the body of the bottle 11, where it mixes with the substance S2.
  • The closure cap 15 comprises:
    • a first tubular body 19 which is at least partially, axially and in a seal manner, insertable inside the mouth 14 and in the internal volume of which the tank 16 is defined, and
    • a second tubular body 20 which is made of a material that is impermeable to fluids, axially inserted in the first tubular body 19 with an interference which makes an interlock fixing thereto, said second tubular body 20 being closed at a transversal section by a lamina portion 21 which is also made of a material that is impermeable to fluids.
  • By material that is impermeable to fluids, in particular water vapour, gases and vapours that are generated by the substances contained inside the bottle 11, it is meant to indicate a material that, in the usual conditions of use of the bottle 11, has a low permeability to such vapours and fluids. A material of such a kind is, for example, aluminium.
  • The frangible base 17 comprises and, as shall become clearer from the following description, in the embodiment illustrated, is exclusively made up of the sole lamina portion 21. In the attached figures, therefore, reference numerals 17 and 21 are indicated as coinciding.
  • The walls of the second tubular body 20, on the other hand, adhere in a seal manner to at least one portion of the internal lateral surface of the first tubular body 19 which delimits the tank 16 so as to form an internal coating.
  • As indicated above, according to the present invention, the second tubular body 20 is inserted inside the first tubular body 19 with an interference which makes an interlock fixing with the first tubular body 19 itself or in any case a direct rigid and complete mechanical connection, made through obstacle and/or friction. In other words, once the second tubular body 20 has been inserted inside the first tubular body 19, it makes with the latter a mechanical interlocking due, in particular, to the presence of rough edges or pairs of complementary projections and cavities on the mutual contact surfaces of the first tubular body 19 and of the second tubular body 20.
  • By "interference making an interlock fixing", therefore, it is not meant a rigid and permanent connection obtained, for example, through gluing, over-moulding, welding, heat adhesion or the like.
  • It is furthermore clear that the connection of the second tubular body 20 to the first tubular body 19 must be such as to ensure an adherence between them, or better, between the mutual respective contact surfaces, such as to ensure the seal with respect to infiltrations of fluids present both in the environment inside the bottle 11 and that could, therefore, raise and penetrate into the tank 16, and in the environment outside the device 10 and bottle 11.
  • As can be seen in the attached figures, the second tubular body 20 is inserted in the first tubular body 19 so that the walls of the second tubular body 20 sealingly adhere to at least one portion of the internal lateral surface of the first tubular body 19 which delimits the tank 16 so as to form an internal coating without that is any gap or hollow space being defined between them. The walls of the second tubular body 20 sealingly adhere to the internal surface of the first tubular body 19 without any gap or hollow space being defined between them.
  • In greater detail, the contact surfaces between the first tubular body 19 and the second tubular body 20 have complementary shapes and respectively have at least one projection and at least one cavity that are complementary to each other and the mutual coupling of which contributes making the interlock fixing between the first tubular body 19 and the second tubular body 20.
  • In the embodiment represented in the attached figures, the first tubular body 19 has a projection 22 that consists of an annular tooth which is obtained on the first tubular body 19 internal lateral surface radially projecting from the latter. Correspondingly, the second tubular body 20 has a cavity 23 that is complementary to the projection 22 and that consists of an annular groove that is obtained on the external lateral surface of the second tubular body 20 itself; in any case the opposite configuration or making of teeth and grooves that extend only for an arch-portion is also possible. The annular tooth and the complementary annular groove advantageously have a semicircular or D-shaped transversal section.
  • In greater detail, the first tubular body 19 comprises:
    • a first cylindrical portion 190 that has an external diameter that is smaller than the internal diameter of the mouth 14 and that, considering the device 10 in a configuration in which it is mounted on a bottle 11, is inserted in the neck 13 of the bottle 11; such a first cylindrical portion 190 widens into a second cylindrical portion 191 having an external diameter that is equal to or slightly greater than the internal diameter of the mouth 14 so as to be able to make a seal coupling with the latter,
    • a third cylindrical portion 192 which widens starting from the second cylindrical portion 191 and that, considering the device 10 in the configuration in which it is mounted on a bottle 11, projects outward the neck 13.
  • The first tubular body 19 has, moreover, a first end 19a that, considering the device 10 in the configuration in which it is assembled on a bottle 11, faces the bottom 12 of the bottle 11 and a second end 19b that is opposite to the first end 19a. The first end 19a is defined by the free end of the first cylindrical portion 190 and the second end 19b is defined by the free end of the third cylindrical portion 192. Both the first end 19a and the second end 19b of the first tubular body 19 are open.
  • Close to the junction between the second cylindrical portion 191 and the third cylindrical portion 192 a flange 24 is obtained which widens radially towards the outside of the first tubular body 19 and from which a tubular jacket 25 projects.
  • Between the tubular jacket 25 and the first tubular body 19 a gap 26 is defined into which the neck 13 of the bottle 11 is inserted.
  • At the tubular jacket 25 coupling means 27 are obtained for coupling the closure cap 15 to the neck 13 of the bottle 11.
  • In the embodiment represented in the attached figures, such coupling means 27 are of the threaded type, however other alternative embodiments of such coupling means 27 should not be excluded.
  • An anchorage strip 29 is fixedly connected at the edge of the tubular jacket 25 facing the bottom 12 of the bottle 11, by means of connection bridges 28 of the frangible type; said anchorage strip 29 has an internal annular enlarged portion 30 which engages with an annular projection 31 that projects from the neck 13 of the bottle 11.
  • The first tubular body 19, the flange 24, the tubular jacket 25 and the strip 29 are made as an enbloc in a unique body, in particular through moulding of polymeric material of the polyethylene type or other polymer preferably of the group of the polyolefins.
  • The second tubular body 20 comprises:
    • a first cylindrical portion 200 that inserts with interference (seal) into the hole of the first tubular body 19 that extends between the first cylindrical portion 190 and the second cylindrical portion 191 of the latter, and
    • a second cylindrical portion 201 that is joined to the first cylindrical portion 200, has an external diameter that is greater than that of the first cylindrical portion 200 and inserts with interference (seal) into the hole of the first tubular body 19 that extends at the third tubular portion 192 of the latter. The second tubular body 20 has a first end 20a which, considering the device 10 in the configuration in which it is mounted on the bottle 11, faces the bottom 12 of the bottle 11 and a second end 20b that is opposite to the first one and open.
  • The lamina portion 21 closes a transversal section of the second tubular body 20 close to the first end 20a of the latter.
  • As already mentioned, the internal lateral surface of the first tubular body 19 has a shape that is complementary to the external lateral surface of the second tubular body 20 and such surfaces adhere to one another so as to make a seal against the infiltrations of fluids between the first tubular body 19 and the second tubular body 20.
  • In order to increase the sealing effect between the first tubular body 19 and the second tubular body 20 complementary flares 32a,32b and 33a,33b are provided, said flares being obtained on the mutual contact surfaces.
  • Moreover, the height of the walls of the second tubular body 20 is substantially equal to the height of the first tubular body 19 which defines the tank 16, so that the walls of the second tubular body 20, adhering in a seal manner to the internal surface of the first tubular body 19 for the entire height thereof which delimits the tank 16, forms a complete and continuous internal coating of the latter.
  • As it is clear from the description above and by the attached figures, the assembly made up of the second tubular body 20 interlocked inside the first tubular body 19 forms the closure cap 15.
  • Basically, the volume inside the second tubular body 20 and delimited by the lamina portion 21 and by the lateral walls of the second tubular body 20 that extend from such a lamina portion 21 towards the second end 20b defines the tank 16.
  • The closure cap 15, therefore, has:
    • a first end 15a that, considering the device 10 in assembling conditions on the bottle 11, faces the bottom 12 of the latter, housed inside the bottle 11 and closed by the frangible base 17 which is made up of the lamina portion 21, and
    • a second end 15b that is opposite to the first end 15a, open and that, considering the device 10 in the condition in which it is mounted on the bottle 11, is arranged outside the neck 13.
  • In a possible embodiment, the device 10 comprises, moreover, first seal auxiliary means between the first tubular body 19 and the second tubular body 20 in order to prevent the infiltration between them of fluids coming from the environment inside the bottle 11.
  • In the embodiment represented in the attached figures, such first seal auxiliary means comprise a tubular extension 202 of the second tubular body 20 which extends from the face of the lamina portion 21 opposite to the one facing the inside of the tank 16 and that inserts into a corresponding containing annular seat 34 that is obtained at the first end 19a of the first tubular body 19.
  • The annular seat 34 is defined, in particular, by a lip 35 that is obtained at the first end 19a of the first tubular body 19 and is "folded back" or U-shaped towards the inside of the first tubular body 19 itself. The lip 35 covers for a certain height the tubular extension 202 and the transversal section of the annular seat 34 is sized so as to make, at least at a portion of the tubular extension 202, a seal contact with the internal and external lateral surfaces of the latter.
  • The device 10 also comprises a closure body 36 of the second end 15b of the closure cap 15.
  • The breaking means 18 of the frangible base 17 are integrally associated with the closure body 36 so as to form a single body with it.
  • The closure body 36 is associated with the closure cap 15 in a movable manner with a motion component that is parallel to the longitudinal axis of the closure cap itself; for such a purpose, the closure body 36 could be screwed onto the portion of the closure cap 15 that projects outside from the neck 13 of the bottle 11 or it could simply be actuated through axial thrust.
  • In particular, the closure body 36 is movable between a first closure position, in which the breaking means 18 integral with it are contained in the tank 16 without interfering with the frangible base 17, and a second closure position, in which the breaking means 18 interfere with the frangible base 17 for breaking it.
  • In the embodiment represented in the attached figures, the breaking means 18 are made of a punch, but alternative embodiments should not be excluded in which the breaking means 18, instead of breaking through the frangible base 17 (the lamina portion 21), shear it, tear it or cut it.
  • In a preferred embodiment, the device 10 comprises, moreover, second seal auxiliary means that are interposed between the closure body 36 and the closure cap 15 in order to prevent infiltrations between them of fluids or other material coming from the environment outside the device 10 and bottle 11 towards the environment inside the tank 16.
  • In greater detail, the closure body 36 comprises a cap portion 360 that is inserted inside the second end 15b of the closure cap 15 and with which the breaking means 18 are integrally associated.
  • This cap portion 360 has a seat 361, which, in practice, consists of a shoulder that is defined by a variation of the transversal section of the cap portion 360, at which an annular gasket 37 is mounted (0-ring); the gasket 37 forms a seal on the internal lateral surface of the closure cap 15 (surface defined by the internal lateral surface of the second tubular body 20) and moves integrally with the closure body 36 when the latter moves from the first to the second closure position.
  • Such second seal auxiliary means (i.e. the annular gasket 37) prevent vapours or fluids present in the environment outside the device 10 of the bottle 11 from being introduced into the tank 16.
  • The cap portion 360 joins at the top to a covering cap 362 which fits on the portion of the closure cap 15 that projects outside with respect to the neck 13 of the bottle 11.
  • Means for temporarily holding the closure body 36 in its first closure position are provided, said means in the embodiment represented in the attached figures, are made of a retaining tooth 38 that is obtained projecting radially from the internal lateral surface of the cap 362 and that engages in a complementary stop groove 39 that is obtained on the external lateral surface of the portion of the closure cap 15 (i.e. of the first tubular body 19) that projects externally with respect to the neck 13 of the bottle 11.
  • According to the present invention the second tubular body 20 is obtained as an enbloc in a unique body; the walls and the lamina portion 21 or the walls, the lamina portion 21 and the tubular extension 202 that constitute the second tubular body 19 are made as an enbloc in a unique body.
  • In particular, the second tubular body 20 is made through drawing/extrusion of the material impermeable to fluids, in particular through drawing/extrusion of aluminium.
  • From the description made and from the attached figures, the man skilled in the art has no difficulty at all in immediately understanding both the production and assembly steps of the device 10 according to the present invention, and the operation thereof.
  • In brief, the first tubular body 19 and the second tubular body 20 are obtained, each as an enbloc in a unique body, separately from one another respectively through moulding of polymeric material and by drawing/extrusion of aluminium.
  • In the same way, the closure body 36 and the breaking means 18 are made as an enbloc in a unique body through moulding of polymeric material.
  • The second tubular body 20 is then inserted into the first tubular body 19 through a mechanical forcing such as to obtain a mutual interlock fixing.
  • The assembly thus consisting of the second tubular body 20 interlockingly and sealingly inserted in the first tubular body 19 constitutes the closure cap 15 which is closed, close to its first end 15a, by the lamina portion 21 (which, in itself, constitutes the frangible base 17) and that is open at its second end 15b.
  • The volume inside the closure cap 15 and which extends from the lamina portion 21 towards the second end 15b defines the tank 16 in which the first substance S1 is charged.
  • The mounting of the device 10 is completed by the insertion of the closure body 36 in the open second end 15b of the closure cap 15.
  • As can be noted, the entire height of the walls that delimit the tank 16 are coated with continuity by the material impermeable to fluids (i.e. by the second tubular body 20), they, moreover, join without any solution of continuity with the lamina portion 21 thus creating a barrier to the entry into the tank 16 of fluids coming both from the internal environment and the external environment of the bottle 11.
  • The first seal auxiliary means and/or the second seal auxiliary means contribute creating a further barrier against the inlet into the tank 16 of fluids present respectively inside the bottle 11 and outside it.
  • Figures 1, 2 and 7 show the device 10 applied to a bottle 11, which is filled with a second substance S2, in a position for containing the first substance S1. In such a containing position, the closure body 36 is held in its first closure position, in which the frangible base 17 (i.e. the lamina portion 21) is integral so as to define the bottom of the tank 16 and the breaking means 18 are housed inside the tank 16 without them interfering with the frangible base 17.
  • Figures 3, 4 and 8 show the device 10 in the release position of the first substance S1 into the bottle 11 itself. The device 10 takes up such a release position following the application of an axial thrust on the closure body 36 or following the screwing of the closure body 36 on the closure cap 15.
  • The closure body 36 thus moves into its second closure position, in which the breaking means 18 interfere with the frangible base 17 (i.e. the lamina portion 21) breaking it. The first substance S1, therefore, falls into the bottle 11 where it joins with the second substance S2.
  • The device equipped with a tank for containing a first substance and suitable for closing a bottle for containing a second substance to be kept separated from the first substance until the moment of the mixing with it, object of the present invention, has the advantage of improving the insulation of the two substances avoiding, in particular, the penetration of water vapour or other vapours or gases from the outside towards the inside of such a tank and vice versa, thus preserving the integrity of the two substances. According to the present invention, the internal coating of the tank for containing the first substance consists of a tubular body (i.e. the second tubular body 20) closed at one transversal section thereof by a lamina portion that constitutes the frangible base of the tank itself. Such a tubular body (i.e. the second tubular body 20) is obtained as an enbloc in a unique body in a material that is impermeable to fluids (i.e. aluminium) and only subsequently is inserted into the first tubular body of the closure cap inside of which it remains interlocked and to which it sealingly adheres.
  • This has the advantage to make both the coating tubular body (i.e. the second tubular body 20) and the first tubular body 19 in which it is inserted so that the surfaces of mutual contact are complementary to each other and adhere to one another so as to obtain an improved seal against the inlet of fluids.
  • The device object of the present invention has the advantage of making the coating tubular body (i.e. the second tubular body 20) with a height such as to be able to completely cover the whole height of the walls of the tank.
  • Making the coating tubular body (i.e. the second tubular body 20) in the form of an insert that can be inserted into and interlocked with the first tubular body 19 that constitutes the closure cap allows, then, obtaining it in a simple and rapid manner with drawing/extrusion operations.
  • The presence of first and/or second seal auxiliary means, finally, ensures that the first substance contained in the tank is better preserved by improving the seal with respect to the inlet inside the tank itself of fluids coming from inside or from outside the bottle.
  • The device with a tank for containing a first substance for closing a bottle for containing a second substance to be kept separated from the first substance until the moment of the mixing with it thus conceived can undergo numerous modifications and variants, all covered by the invention; as defined by the appended claims moreover, all the details can be replaced by technically equivalent elements. In practice the materials used, as well as the sizes, can be any according to the technical requirements.
