Definitions

  • the present invention relates to desks having a vertically adjustable table top, to be used at variable heights, in particular for seating, standing and intermediate positions of the user.
  • an adjustable table top In order to improve operational ergonomics of desks, it is desirable to have an adjustable table top. This allows to adjust the working height of the table top to the height of the particular user. This also allows the user to conveniently work at the desk when seating or standing.
  • Hydraulic or gas actuators are known that allow to effortlessly lift the table top, but they require considerable force from the user to lower the desk position.
  • electric motors which can be easily operated by buttons, but their operation is relatively slow.
  • Another type of a known mechanism is a lift operated manually via a crank, which is also slow and inconvenient to use.
  • a desk with a vertically adjustable table top is known from a PCT application WO2011025561A1 . It comprises a counterbalance apparatus which includes an inner column telescopingly mounted in an outer column. A base member is positioned at one end of the outer column. A grooved member positioned between the inner column and the base member and a force mechanism between the grooved member and the inner column or the work surface.
  • the desk according to the invention has at least one vertically adjustable table top, and at least one counterweight, which is connected, through ropes guided via rollers, with carts placed in guides, which are connected with table top supports.
  • the desk has combs attached to the internal part of the side walls and a locking mechanism positioned under the table top.
  • the desk according to the invention comprises a frame comprising a pair of side members and a back member; a pair of side guides fixed to the frame; a table top; a pair of table top supports fixed to the table top and slidable vertically along the side guides; a counterweight arrangement, comprising a counterweight coupled, by at least one rope guided via rollers, with the table top and configured to bias the weight of the table top against gravity; and a locking arrangement, comprising a pair of side combs fixed to the side members of the frame and a pair of movable lockers mounted at the sides of the table top and movable by at least one actuator between: a locked position in which the movable lockers fit between the teeth of the side combs so as to lock the vertical position of the table top; and an unlocked position in which the movable lockers are located in a space beyond the teeth of the side combs so as to enable adjustment of the vertical position of the table top.
  • the counterweight can be connected to the first ends of a first rope and a second rope, which are guided upwards via rollers, then sidewards via rollers, and then downwards, respectively, wherein the second ends of the first rope and the second rope are connected to the table top.
  • the counterweight can be connected to the first ends of a first rope and a third rope, which are guided upwards via rollers, then sidewards via horizontally movable rollers, and then then sidewards in opposite direction, respectively, where they are attached to the back member of the frame by their second ends, and wherein the movable rollers are attached to the first ends of a second rope and a fourth rope respectively, the second rope and the fourth rope being guided sidewards towards the side members of the frame by rollers, and then downwards, respectively, wherein the second ends of the second rope and the fourth rope is connected to the table top.
  • the desk may further comprise a spring, the spring being attached with the first end to the counterweight and with the second end to the bottom part of the frame.
  • the desk may further comprise springs, attached with first ends to the counterweight and with the second ends to the bottom part of the frame, wherein the frame attachment points of springs are distanced from each other along the width of the frame, so that springs are symmetrically inclined with respect to the vertical path of movement of the counterweight.

In other words, the attachment points of the springs are distanced sidewardly with respect to each other.
  • the springs 680, 681 aid the counterweight in biasing the table top.
  • the springs 680, 681 allow to decrease the necessary mass of the counterweight, as compared to the embodiments without springs 680, 681. Also, the symmetrical alignment of multiple springs enhances the stability of the counterweight during movement.
  • Fig. 17 shows a fifth embodiment of the counterweight arrangement.
  • the fifth embodiment further comprises a spring 780.
  • the spring 780 is attached with the first end, through rope 780a, to the upper part of the frame, preferably to the top bar of the frame. To the second end of the spring 780 there is attached a first end of the third rope 780b.
  • the third rope 780b is guided downwards via a roller 775, then sidewards via a roller 776, and then upwards, wherein its second end is connected to the counterweight 751, at the side opposite with respect to the side with attachment points of ropes 761, 762.
  • the spring aids the counterweight in biasing the table top.
  • the spring 780 allows to decrease the necessary mass of the counterweight, as compared to the embodiments without the spring 780. Also, such arrangement of the spring 780 and the third rope 780b allows to reduce the overall height of the desk while maintaining its functionality.
  • Fig. 18 shows a sixth embodiment of the counterweight arrangement.
  • the embodiment further comprises a counterweight 851A to which first end of a first rope 861 is connected.
  • the first rope 861 is guided upwards via a roller 871, then sidewards via a roller 872 and then downwards, wherein its second end is connected to the table top (e.g. indirectly, via a cart movable in the side guide and connected to the table support).
  • the embodiment further comprises a counterweight 851 B to which first end of a second rope 862 is connected.
  • the second rope 862 is guided upwards via a roller 873, then sidewards via a roller 874 and then downwards, wherein its second end is connected to the table top (e.g. indirectly, via a cart movable in the side guide and connected to the table support).
  • Arrangements of ropes and rollers for both counterweights 851A, 851 B are symmetrical. Such design allows to split the counterweight arrangement into two independent units. The mass of the single counterweight element can thus be decreased, which may lead to lower costs of manufacturing, easier transportation and assembly, as well as less wear of the system.
  • Fig. 19 shows a configuration of a plurality of desks, wherein the neighboring double-sided desks (wherein one table top is at the low position and the opposite table top is at the top position)share the side members of the frame.
  • Each side member may have combs attached at its both sides.
  • Various elements such as the rope 122, the rollers 123, the counterweight 121, can be covered by a cover (not shown in the drawing) in order to improve the aesthetics of the desk.
  • the rope 122 can be made for example of plastic or steel, or it can have a form of a chain (in that case, the rollers 123 may have a form of gearwheels).
  • the desk can be an office desk designed to allow quick and easy adjustment of the vertical level of the table top. This may allow the user to adapt the level to the user's height or to a user's working position (sitting/standing).
  • the vertical position of the table top may be adjustable from 650 to1300 mm as measured from the tloor level.
