Investigations have shown that abusive abdominal injuries, particularly in the genital area, are increasing sharply among military personnel as well as civilians in crisis areas, particularly in those regions where terrorist activities are regularly reported, for example in Afghanistan. One of the reasons for this is that terrorists use unconventional explosive devices and so-called IEDs. Another disadvantage of known ballistic equipped underpants is that their protection packages are adapted insufficiently to the areas in the abdomen, which are in fact particularly vulnerable.

The present invention is therefore an object of the invention to provide an underwear with a ballistic equipment that solves the disadvantages of the prior art, in particular particularly effectively protects against positioned near the ground unconventional explosive and fire devices that is easy to handle and the wearer the underwear affected as little as possible.

This object is achieved by the features of claim 1. Further advantageous embodiments of the present invention are the subject of the dependent claims.
An examination of the injuries caused by unconventional explosive and fire devices has shown that the underwear can be subdivided into different protection zones. It was recognized by the inventor that the underwear must meet specific requirements for the ballistic equipment in order to develop a suitable protective effect, in particular in relation to the unconventional explosive and fire devices. According to the invention, provision is made for the underwear to be composed of a UHMWPE (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) knitwear inhibiting intrusion of splinters and at least one other textile material deviating therefrom, the UHMWPE knitwear being arranged in a first zone of the base area of the undergarment.

In view of the fact that the underwear in addition to the ballistic equipment should also fulfill other properties, for example, should have a thermoregulation and a fit security, it has been found to be advantageous not to form all the undergarments from a uniform knitwear inhibiting the ingress of splinters, but essentially only the areas requiring special protection. It is therefore sufficient to arrange the UHMWPE knitwear in a first zone of the base.

The use of a UHMWPE knitwear has been found to be particularly suitable over other materials which can also provide ballistic protection. The UHMWPE knitwear can be made in such a way that optimum wearing comfort can be guaranteed. The penetration of splinters can be minimized. The penetration depth of splinters is reduced and micro-splinters are virtually completely prevented. The occurrence of life-threatening injuries can thus be reduced. Survivability is increased and the risk of infection, which is particularly high in genital injuries, is reduced. The UHMWPE knit fabric offers virtually constant ballistic protection even when wet, after UV aging and after washing.

In contrast to the prior art, as this from the US Pat. No. 6,961,958 B1 It is known that the solution according to the invention can advantageously make it possible for the underwear to be composed of the knitwear made of UHMWPE and at least one further, differing textile material. It does not have to be like that according to the US Pat. No. 6,961,958 B1 provided, the underwear initially made entirely from a non-ballistic material and then provided with pockets for receiving ballistic protection packages, but the underwear can be composed of the knitwear of UHMWPE and at least one other, deviating here before textile material. This can preferably take place in that the individual pieces are sewn together at the edges or otherwise connected, so that a complete underwear is produced therefrom. As a result, a low basis weight is achieved.

A particular advantage is that it is ensured by assembling the underwear from the knitwear made of UHMWPE and at least one other deviating further textile material that the ballistic protection effecting equipment is always at the intended location to be protected. Furthermore, it is thus easily possible for the UHMWPE knitwear to extend from a front side in one piece to the back side, thereby protecting, in particular, the perineum and the anal region, in particular from splinters which shoot upwards from the floor. The ballistic protection packages inserted only in pockets have virtually no protective effect here.

It is preferable if several, more preferably all of the aforementioned areas are assigned to the first zone. This results in a particularly suitable protection.

It is advantageous if the underwear is designed as underpants. However, the invention is not limited thereto.

In one embodiment of the underwear as underpants, it is advantageous if it is designed such that the underpants, if this is worn correctly by the wearer, so high that it covers even the navel - and circulates annularly at this level. This has the advantage that the underwear overlaps with a possibly additionally worn protective vest. According to the invention, it is provided that the at least one further textile material forms at least one second zone. The production of textiles and the various processing methods for textiles are well known from the general state of the art, wes half will be discussed below only on the specific features of the undergarment according to the invention.

All the features of the undergarments shown below, in particular the features that are represented by the various embodiments of the underwear, can be combined with each other. The features mentioned with respect to one embodiment can also be applied to the other embodiments in order to produce further advantageous variants of the underwear according to the invention. Furthermore, the features of the embodiments, which are not explicitly referred to as essential to the invention, also omitted.

The exemplary embodiments illustrated below show an underwear which is designed as underpants. However, the invention is not limited thereto. In particular, it can also be an undershirt, which can be produced analogously.

The illustrated underpants refers to a pair of underpants for men. Similarly, however, a pair of underpants for women can be designed.

Fig. 1 shows a pair of underpants with a ballistic equipment. The base of the pants is composed of a penetration of splinters inhibiting knit fabric 1 UHMWPE and at least one deviating therefrom further textile material 2, 200 together. Under a knitwear 1 UHMWPE is an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene to understand. A particularly suitable UHMWPE is sold under the trade name Dyneema® by the Dutch chemical company Royal DSM NV. Dyneema® is a high strength polyethylene fiber with a tensile strength of 3 to 5 GPa. The Figures 1 and 2 show an embodiment of the undergarment, which is composed essentially of three materials, namely the knitwear 1 of UHMWPE and two other textile materials 2, 200. However, it is alternatively also possible to make the underpants also from more than three materials.

The knitted fabric 1 of UHMWPE is arranged in a first zone of the base. In the exemplary embodiment, the first zone is not described in more detail, since this runs identically with the knitwear 1 made of UHMWPE.

The first zone, which according to the Figures 1 and 2 UHMWPE knitwear 1 occupies that part of the bottom surface of the underpants which, when the underpants are worn correctly, completely or partially adjoins the liver, kidneys, bladder, digestive organs and spleen. Further, the UHMWPE knitwear 1 is used in the areas of underpants adjacent to the abdomen and urinary tract, as well as the aorta and venous system. Further, the knitwear 1 of UHMWPE is placed in the area of the underwear adjacent to the perineum and anal region when the panty is worn correctly.

The venous system essentially refers to the main blood vessels whose damage caused by splinters or direct ballistic hits causes particularly heavy bleeding.

According to the Figures 1 and 2 protects the knitwear 1 UHMWPE the aforementioned areas, insofar as the underwear adjacent to this ever. It is alternatively also possible that the knitted fabric 1 made of UHMWPE only a part protects the aforementioned areas or even just one of the aforementioned areas. In the exemplary embodiment, the knitwear 1 made of UHMWPE is a knit, that is to say produced by knitting. The knitted fabric 1 of UHMWPE has a basis weight of at least 150 g / m ^2, preferably 200g / m ^2, more preferably 250 g / m ² and most preferably 300 g / m ^2. The thickness of a yarn 27 used for the production is in the embodiment at least 50 dtex and at most 440 dtex, preferably at least 80 dtex and less than 250 dtex. The base of the pants is in accordance with the Figures 1 and 2 essentially of a front side 3, a back 4, two side parts 5, two trouser leg collars 6 and a waistband 7 together. A preferred embodiment of the first zone consists of a partial base area of the knitwear 1 made of UHMWPE, which comprises at least a partial area of the front side 3 and the back side 4 and the area of the underpants adjacent to the perineum and the anal region.

The knitwear 1 made of UHMWPE in the exemplary embodiment preferably occupies the already mentioned surfaces which protect different regions of the body of the wearer. The knitted fabric 1 UHMWPE is, as is apparent from the Figures 1 and 2 results, essentially in the area of the front side 3 and partly also used in the area of the back 4.

The second textile material 2, according to which Figures 1 and 2 is preferably an open and air-permeable pore-containing mesh is used in a second zone. In the exemplary embodiment, the third textile material 200 is a polyamide-elastane mixture which preferably has a mixing ratio of 73% polyamide to 27% elastane. However, the proportion of polyamide may also be preferably 20% greater or smaller, with the proportion of elastane being adjusted accordingly. Although a specific elastic textile material is mentioned in the embodiment, the invention is not limited thereto. In principle, any stretch material may be suitable for forming the third zone. The elastic textile material 200 takes in the Figures 1 and 2 essentially the area of the two side parts 5 a. The flame retardant material 15 is, as in Fig. 15 illustrated by way of example, preferably sewn by means of a peripheral edge seam 24 with the knitwear 1 UHMWPE. The mixture 15a of the flame-retardant textile material 15 can consist of 70 to 95% aramid, 1 to 5% polyamide antistatic and elastane (eg Lycra) with one% content, which results in a total mixture of 98 to 100 % is formed from the three materials. Claims (15)

1. Ballistic underwear,
   wherein the base area of the underwear is composed of shrapnel-resistant UHMWPE (ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene) knitwear (1) and at least one other, different textile material (2, 200, 14),
   wherein the UHMWPE knitwear (1) is arranged in a first zone of the base area and

Underwear according to one of Claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the UHMWPE knitwear (1) and the at least one other textile material (2, 200, 14) are sewn with each other in the area of their edges adjacent to each other and the UHMWPE knitwear (1) and the at least one other textile material (2, 200, 14) overlap at most in the area of their edges adjacent to each other.
8. Underwear according to one of Claims 1 to 7, characterized in that the underwear has trouser legs, which have on their ends an elastic trouser leg band and/or trouser leg band (6) adjustable to the wearer of the underwear, in order to fix the trouser legs.
9. Underwear according to one of Claims 1 to 8, characterized in that in the first zone at least two layers of UHMWPE knitwear (1) are arranged on top of each other.
10. Underwear according to Claim 9, characterized in that the at least two layers of the UHMWPE knitwear (1) are arranged on top of each other rotated by 90° aligned to each other plane-parallel.
11. Underwear according to one of Claims 1 to 10, characterized in that the other textile material arranged in the second zone is designed as textile mesh (2) having open and air-permeable pores.
12. Underwear according to one of Claims 1 to 11, characterized in that in the first zone on the underside of the UHMWPE knitwear (1) facing the wearer of the underwear textile absorption surfaces (16) are formed at least in sections.
13. Underwear according to one of Claims 1 to 12, characterized in that in the area, which is adjacent to the thigh, if the underwear is correctly worn, and/or in the genital area (12) a pocket (17, 19) is formed, into which protection packets (18, 20) adapted to the respective pockets (17, 19) can be inserted.
14. Underwear according to Claim 13, characterized in that the protective packets (18, 20) are formed of shrapnel-resistant UHMWPE knitwear (1).
15. Underwear according to Claim 14, characterized in that the protective packets (18, 20) are formed by at least 4, preferably eight layers of UHMWPE knitwear (1), which layers are arranged on top of each other.
