Description

The present invention relates to the field of tubular packaging, comprising a rigid tubular body, that is to say a solid body consisting of a portion of a cylinder, portion limited by two parallel planes intersecting the generatrices of the cylinder, made of a cardboard material, a bottom and / or a lid, and a safety membrane, sealed to the tubular body, these packings being intended to contain solid products in divided forms, such as powders, grains, granules, fibers, chips, or products in liquid form or in pasty form. The tubular packagings concerned are both circular packs and tubular packings of non-circular section, for example rectangular or oval packs. The tubular packaging concerned is both the actual cardboard packaging, the packaging comprising a tubular body of cardboard material but a lid and / or a bottom of metal material or synthetic material.

The present invention more particularly relates to a method of manufacturing packages comprising a tubular body made of one or more layers of a cardboard material and an obturating structure, forming a security membrane of the package, assembled to the tubular body so waterproof.

The term "cardboard packaging" usually refers to packages of which 90 to 98% by weight are made of cellulosic materials. This type of packaging comprises, in addition to layers of cellulosic materials, metal layers or coatings, such as aluminum, or synthetic, associated with cellulosic materials to form a composite surface material. These metal or synthetic materials are, according to a terminology generally accepted in the art, a "barrier material", isolating the product stored inside the packaging of the external environment, for example to prevent oxidation, drying out, or vis-à-vis pollutants. Synthetic layers or coatings may also play an essential sealing role between two parts of the package during its manufacture; in this case they are generally referred to as "reactive barrier material".

This process involves the flat assembly of three sheet or strip materials, namely
  • a cellulosic material coated with at least one barrier material that can be reactivated on its side facing said safety membrane, constituting said carton-lid
  • a rolling member arranged between said cover board and said security membrane, of a shape conjugated to the shape of the opening of the tubular body, made of paper, or coated paper, on its side facing said cover-board, a material having sealing properties with respect to said carton-lid, and
  • a material forming said security membrane, consisting of a paper coated with at least one barrier material reactivatable and peelable on its non-facing side to said rolling member.

  • l'introduction, la pose et le scellage de toute la partie périphérique rabattue des cuvettes dans les corps tubulaire au moyen du dit outil de formage;

The description of the patent application FR 1261400 is incorporated here, in the present text, by this quotation from this reference.

Many materials are possible to make a safety membrane: aluminum and film (s) seal (s), aluminum and varnish sealer, paper and aluminum and film (s) sealant (s), paper barrier film (them: PET metallized, PET SIOX, PVDC, etc ...) and sealing film (s). The materials used must be compatible for sealing with the inner wall of the tube. In the case of the use of a paper complex, the membrane can be printed and marked with spots to be cut and positioned perfectly centered in the tube.

With known techniques called "membrane recess" the cut surface of the membrane is significantly larger than the cross-sectional area of a given tube. During the transition from the flat state to the formed state, it generates folds that are as many wells that let air and moisture and thus prevent a good seal of the assembly. To overcome this, in the state of the art, it is necessary to use very strong materials in order to use flanges at very high pressure, generally Hydraulic. The range of usable materials is then almost limited to only aluminum with varnish. This poses price problems because aluminum is an expensive material, subject to great price variations. In addition, it takes a lot of material to perform this forming operation, so it is disadvantageous in terms of material cost and final competitiveness. The present invention has the primary objective of providing a method for using a wide range of materials to achieve the safety membrane.

In addition, to have an easy opening, the sealing of the membrane on the tube must be easily "peelable". To do this, it is generally used in the state of the art an attached tongue attached to the periphery of the safety membrane. Again, this limits the choice of materials for both the membrane and the barrier of the tube itself. Here again, material costs are not optimized. The present invention also aims to provide a membrane for easy opening and reliable without being limited in the choice of materials as is the case of the processes of the state of the art mentioned above. The invention proposes to facilitate the separation of the safety membrane during the first use, while decreasing the required tensile force, without altering the tightness of the membrane before this first use.

The French patent published under No FR 2,716,408 , describes the manufacture of a tubular packaging of the above type. The structure comprises a cover board made of cellulosic material and a safety membrane made of a cellulosic material coated with a barrier material. These two pieces are formed one after the other, in the form of cylindrical bowls by a punch shape through an outer die and engaged in one end of the tubular body. The side walls of the two parts are assembled in a sealed manner with the inner wall of the tubular body. Then the wall of the tubular body is pre-cut along a peripheral line between the assembly areas of the two parts, so as to allow the opening of the lid carton without tearing the safety membrane. The disadvantage of this process, specifically adapted to the assembly of cellulosic / cardboard materials is not to be applicable to a wide range of materials. The present invention also aims to overcome this problem. The invention also aims to provide a structure comprising a tubular body as mentioned above, provided with a safety membrane, structure on which can be formed and / or adapt a wide range of types of covers.

The document US6058682 discloses a method of manufacturing packages and a package according to the preamble of claim 6. The present invention provides a method of manufacturing a package according to claim 1. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a packaging according to claim 5. Those skilled in the art will observe that the fact of not sealing the marginal zone of the shutter structure, or the intermediate part mentioned above, decreases the sealed surface and therefore the folds likely to cause a leakage, and therefore opens the range of usable materials for the shutter structure. Furthermore, this creates a non-contact membrane portion with the tubular body at the proximal end of the tongue, making the "peel" operation easier and more reliable. Because the area marginale, in other words the upper part of the safety membrane of the finished package is not glued / sealed to the tubular body, traction on the tongue causes a deformation of the top of the membrane by distributing the traction forces the tongue on a larger surface of the membrane, thus facilitating the opening of the membrane.

According to one embodiment of the method according to the invention, said process is continuous, considered as a whole, and stepped step by step. The shutter structure is cut from a strip, the advance of the strip by one step, a cutting sequence of a shutter structure in the strip and a flap operation of the tongue are slaved to the introduction of a shutter structure in a forming tool and a material assembly sequence.

Selon un mode d'exécution du procédé de fabrication d'un emballage tel que défini ci-dessus, l'extrémité du corps tubulaire situé à proximité de ladite structure obturante subit une finition déterminée par le choix du couvercleAccording to one embodiment of the method of manufacturing a package as defined above, the end of the tubular body located close to said closure structure undergoes a finish determined by the choice of the lid

The method according to the invention is implemented by means of a forming tool, comprising a sealing pad; said sealing pad comprises a sealing base of cross section conjugate to the cross section of the tubular body, the height of which is less than the width of the folding peripheral strip of the sealing structure, said sealing base being surmounted by a buffer body whose cross section is chosen so as not to come into contact with said shutter structure.

According to one embodiment of the forming tool the sealing pad comprises a second sealing strip of cross section conjugated to the cross section of the tubular body, arranged at a distance from said sealing base determined by the width of said unsealed intermediate portion.

The invention also relates to a package according to claims 6 to 8.

The machines of the state of the art work at rates of 60-80 units, namely tubular bodies + membranes or lids, per minute.

La machine selon l'invention peut être avantageusement adaptée à partir d'une machine réalisant les emballages deux par deux, telle que décrite dans FR 1261400 , munie d'outils de formage tels que définis ci-dessusWith the strong growth of sales of cardboard boxes since 2007 and the pressure on prices exerted by the industries Consumers of these packaging, a demand exists to find technical solutions to produce more, faster and cheaper. The machine according to the invention can be advantageously adapted from a machine carrying the packaging two by two, as described in FR 1261400 , equipped with forming tools as defined above

The figure 1 shows a tubular body 1 associated with a safety membrane 2 of the "membrane-recess" type whose peripheral portion 3 covers the rim 4 of the tubular body 1. In this structure of the state of the art, the peripheral portion 3 houses numerous folds, sources of leaks. A tongue 5 is glued or sealed on the safety membrane 2. This construction requires additional material and complex operations on the membrane.

The figure 2 shows the realization of a safety membrane 6 according to the invention, by stamping, from a strip of membrane material advancing under the stamping tool. At the top of the figure 2 , we see the tongue 7, come in one piece with the rest of the membrane, folded towards the center of the latter to form a solid. In the embodiment shown by the figure 2 , on either side of the base of the tongue 7, the periphery of the membrane has 2 small concave zones to facilitate the subsequent detachment of the membrane from the inner wall of the tubular body. The Figures 21a, 21b, 21c and 21d show alternative embodiments of shutter structures, flat. The skilled person will note that if the shapes of the tabs differ from the tongue 7 of the figure 2 , their proximal end extends laterally on both sides by two slight curvatures whose concavity is oriented towards the outside of the shutter structure.

The figure 3 shows the membrane 6, again in solid form, introduced into a forming tool 8 whose overall structure and mode of operation are known in the state of the art. The figure 4 shows the descent of the sealing pad 9 and the clamping of the flanks 10 and the forming die 11. The figure 5 shows the security membrane 6 formed in a bowl, the tongue 7 being bent at right angles by the sealing pad 9. The skilled person will appreciate in view of Figures 4 and 5 that only the base 12 of the sealing buffer 9 interacts on its periphery with the membrane 6, the upper part of the sealing pad being recessed, optionally covered with a thermally insulating layer. Similarly, the sealing pad preferably has in its lower part an area thermally insulated by a protector not to stick to the tongue, by activation effect, on the sealing portion of the tongue during the output of the buffer.

With the configuration described above, it is possible to strongly tighten the forming die and thus concentrate the folds / thickenings to the unsealed marginal area of the membrane, improving the membrane / tubular body seal, while avoiding moving the membrane by friction effect when removing the buffer.

The figure 6 and the figure 7 show the result of the operation: only the zone 13 of the peripheral band of the membrane 6 visualized by a thickened line is sealed to the tubular body 1. The tongue 7 and the marginal zone of the membrane 6 are not secured to the body tubular 1. The unsealed marginal area may in particular have a width of 1 to 3 mm. The figure 8 shows the beginning of a detachment operation of the membrane 6 by a user who grasps the tongue 7. The traction on the tongue 7 is distributed on either side of the base thereof thanks to the free marginal area . The concavity of the marginal areas bordering the base of the tongue shown in particular on the figure 2 contributes to this distribution.

The skilled person will appreciate in particular in view of the figure 6 that the safety membrane is positioned according to the invention at a distance from the flange 14 of the tubular body at a depth chosen by the manufacturer of the package according to the cover for this package. This distance makes it possible to perform a finishing operation of the rim, which in the majority of cases does not affect the membrane but may nevertheless include it.
Those skilled in the art will also appreciate that a great many materials, such as those mentioned above, can be used to make the membrane, the only condition being the compatibility with the internal barrier material of the tubular body with regard to heat sealing.

The Figures 9-16 show a plurality of non-limiting examples of such finishing operations by grooves or by hemming:
  • the Figures 9 and 9a show a groove for a retracting lid,
  • the Figures 10 and 10a show a grooving for cover with external plug (lid clipped),
  • the Figures 11 and 11a show hemming for externally seated lid,
  • the Figures 12 and 12a show the insertion of an insert between the straight edge of the tubular body and an externally-gripped cover,
  • the Figures 13 and 13a show a second hemming for cover with external grip,
  • the Figures 14 and 14a show a third hemming for cover with external grip,
  • the Figures 15 and 15a show a fourth hemming of the rim of the tubular body covering the edge of a reentrant lid, with a pre-cut tubular body close to this hemming, without opening into the lid itself, allowing, as shown by the Figures 16 and 16a easy separation of the lid without affecting the safety diaphragm, as well as re-closing the package after tearing off the membrane.

The figure 19 shows an embodiment of the shutter structure in which the peripheral band, symbolized by the dashed circle, is wider than in the embodiment shown in FIG. figure 2 and the concave cutting areas 18 on either side of the tongue are deeper. The sealing pad intended to set up this closure structure in the tubular body has, in addition to the sealing base 12 of the embodiment shown by the figures 3-5 a second sealing strip 19 arranged at a distance from the sealing base determined by the width of the intermediate portion of the peripheral strip of the closure structure intended not to be sealed. The result of the operation is shown in particular on the figure 17a . The circumferential band is sealed to the tubular body in its upper marginal zone 16 and in its lower zone 17, leaving free an intermediate zone, at which a cutout is made on the circumference of the tubular body, in a finishing operation which follows the hemming operation of the upper rim of the tubular body. The Figures 18 and 18a show the detachment of the cover of the structure shown on the Figures 17 and 17a . The skilled person will note that during the detachment of the cover the initial marginal area of the shutter structure is detached and remains integral with the lid while the intermediate portion, which is integral with the proximal portion of the tongue becomes the new upper marginal zone of the safety membrane.

The variety of examples above demonstrates that the assembly of a safety membrane and a tubular body according to the invention offers a certain universality as to the choice of adaptable lids, as well as with regard to the shape of the lids that their materials, and therefore a wide range of applications.
