The invention relates to a method for processing fiber bundles, wherein fiber bundle sections are cut off from a fiber bundle. The invention further relates to a device for processing fiber bundles. The fiber bundles are, in particular, bundles of fibers or filaments made of thermoplastic material and, in one embodiment, bundles of monofilaments of thermoplastic material. The fibers or filaments of thermoplastic material are expediently extruded by means of an extrusion device.
From practice, methods of the type described above are known in various embodiments. In general, following a filament extrusion device, a strand winder or bristle winder is positioned and the filaments are first wound up. Subsequently, the fiber bundles are separated into fiber bundle sections (so-called pucks). These fiber bundle sections separated from the fiber bundle are then further processed or packed. The wrapping of the fiber bundles with foil or paper serves to stabilize or fix the fiber bundles, in particular for the separation of the fiber bundle sections. However, this wrapping is complicated or costly and the film or paper must be removed later usually again. This is realized, for example, with the aid of a water-soluble film.

Conveniently, the supplied fiber bundles are oriented vertically. As far as vertical orientation is mentioned here and below, this also means a substantially vertical orientation. Preferably, the fiber bundles to be processed are already vertically oriented in the feeder, and preferably the vertical orientation of the fiber bundles is when they are gripped by the upper looper and by the lower looper and transported to the position above the cutter. Furthermore, it is within the scope of the invention that the fiber bundles are arranged vertically in their feed movement and in the cutting process.
A proven embodiment of the method according to the invention is characterized in that a fiber bundle - preferably in or on the feeder - is gripped by the upper gripper and then pulled upwards or vertically upwards by the open gripping elements of the lower gripper from the upper gripper becomes. Conveniently, the upper gripper acts on a clamping adapter, in which the fiber bundle is mounted with its upper end. Subsequently, the fiber bundle is gripped in its lower region by the lower gripper. This gripping of the fiber bundle by the lower gripper is recommended the fixation of the fiber bundle in the lower region or the prevention of bulking and confusion of the fibers in the lower region of the fiber bundle.
It is recommended that, after first grasping the fiber bundle from the upper gripper and the lower gripper, the fiber bundle is positioned above the cutting device by means of the upper gripper and by means of the lower gripper and preferably moved horizontally to the position above the cutting device becomes. Subsequently, then the gripping of the fiber bundle by the feed gripper, the opening of the lower gripper and the advancing movement of the fiber bundle and the separation of a fiber bundle section and so on.
It is within the scope of the invention that the lower gripper remains during the advancing movements of the fiber bundle in the direction of cutting device in the same horizontal position or plane or substantially in the same horizontal position or plane and the upper gripper according to the advancing movements of the fiber bundle and is moved / moved downwards or vertically downwards in the direction of the cutting device. The lower gripper thus expediently remains at the same height or essentially at the same height and opens or closes as required in accordance with the method of the invention. It is also within the scope of the invention that the upper gripper remains closed during the feed movements of a fiber bundle to be processed and thus no opening of the upper gripper takes place until a next fiber bundle is accepted for processing by the upper gripper. Furthermore, it is within the scope of the invention that the feed gripper is moved with a feed movement of the fiber bundle with the upper gripper down or vertically down and after the separation of a Fiber bundle section is expediently moved up again and preferably according to the previous feed movement is moved back up.
A particularly preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention is characterized in that the lower end of the fiber bundle is guided before the cutting process or before / above the cutting device by a bundling device for bundling the fiber ends of the fiber bundle. During a feed movement of the fiber bundle for the purpose of separating a fiber bundle section, the lower end of the fiber bundle is thus guided through the bundling device. Insofar as the invention is based on the knowledge that the fiber bundle is fanned out at the bottom during operation and the fiber ends are oriented at least in part there is usually not parallel. With the help of the bundling device, outwardly projecting fibers are conveyed to the inside at the lower end of the fiber bundle, and thus the fiber bundle fanned down at the bottom is bundled at the lower end. According to a particularly recommended embodiment of the method according to the invention, a funnel tapering in the feed direction of the fiber bundle is used as the bundling device, wherein it is preferably a rotating funnel. The end of the fiber bundle is inserted from the top into the wide funnel opening of the downwardly tapering funnel. Conveniently, this funnel rotates about its vertical longitudinal axis. A particularly proven embodiment of the invention is characterized in that the fiber bundle-side inner surface of the funnel has spirally extending grooves. Due to the rotational movement of the funnel and the simultaneous advancing movement of the fiber bundle, bundling of the end of the fiber bundle takes place in the funnel.
According to one embodiment variant, before the fiber bundle section is separated from the fiber bundle, the fiber bundle end is cut off or cut off with the cutting device. Preferably, this cut fiber bundle end is transferred into a waste container. Subsequently, the separation of a fiber bundle section then takes place.
It is within the scope of the invention that the separated fiber bundle sections are detected alternately by at least two or by two bundle grippers and are preferably stored alternately in at least two or in two transport and / or storage containers.
