Description

The invention relates to running boards, including the individual rolling platform type (PIR) as defined by French standards NF P 93-352 and NF P 93-353.

A step conventionally comprises a front plane having two front uprights and at least one step connecting the front uprights, and a rear plane having two rear uprights and at least one bar connecting the rear uprights, hinged mounted relative to the front plane. The footboards of the PIR type further include a floor mounted between the front plane and the rear plane to allow an operator to work at height without fatigue, his two feet resting flat on the floor, and wheels facilitating the movement of the footboard .

The steps of this type are folding, the rear plane tilting on the front plane to allow easy storage and relatively compact footboard.

It is not intended to bend the step to simply move it on site between two working positions nearby. Such handling would be too tiring and tedious. This is why the step is equipped with wheels. More specifically, on a large number of models, the rear plane is provided with wheels fixed to the rear uprights, and which, when the step is unfolded and rests on the ground in the normal working position, are raised above the ground. When the user wishes to move the step, he grasps it by the front upright, tilts it back until the wheels touch the ground, which allows the maneuvering and rolling.

This operation, however, requires sufficient force to lift the step. When this operation is repeated several times a day, or even several times an hour, this results in unnecessary fatigue for the user.

Solutions have been proposed to facilitate the running of the steps. Thus, the US patent US 6,026,931 provides a structure in which the rear portion of the step is provided with spring-mounted rear wheels, while the front portion of the step is provided with a pair of axially mounted front wheels. pivoting, the tilting of the front wheels to a position of displacement being controlled by the foot by actuating a pedal associated with the descent of the user of the step. The reverse tilting of the front wheels to a retracted position is caused by the imposition of a weight (in practice, the weight of the user) on the step.

This solution, apparently satisfactory, is not without inconvenience, nor without danger. Indeed, if it is undeniable that the wheels are well retracted when the user is perched on the step, however it is undeniable that the step is movable as the step is free of any weight. To immobilize, the user must put on the step sufficient weight to cause the retraction of the front wheels, which he is not always able to do. When the ground is sloping (which is common on construction sites), the footboard is likely to slip away.

Le document US 2005/029048 A1 décrit un marche pied selon le préambule de la revendication 1.In addition, it may be that the sole weight of the leg on the first step is not sufficient to cause the tilting of the front wheels to their retracted position. The user is therefore exposed to the risk of falling if he does not impose, at the first step, a sufficient weight to the running board. The document US 2005/029048 A1 describes a step according to the preamble of claim 1.

A first objective is to propose a rolling step that can be moved without difficulty by the user.

A second objective is to propose a rolling step which presents a better ergonomics for the user.

A third objective is to provide a rolling step providing enhanced safety for the user.

For this purpose, it is proposed a step comprising:
  • a front plane comprising a pair of front uprights and at least one step connecting the front uprights,
  • a railing mounted on the front plane, this railing comprising a pair of lateral barriers, each mounted articulated on a front post between an extended position in which each barrier extends substantially perpendicularly to the front plane, and a folded position in each barrier extends substantially parallel to the front plane,
  • a rear plane mounted articulated on the front plane and comprising a pair of rear uprights and at least one bar connecting the rear uprights, the rear uprights ending in ends which, with ends of the front uprights, define a laying plane for the footboard in an unfolded position thereof, where the rear plane forms an angle with the front plane,
  • a pair of retractable rear wheels mounted movable relative to the rear plane between a retracted position in which the rear wheels extend above the laying plane, and an extended position in which the rear wheels protrude from the landing plane downwards. each rear wheel being urged towards its deployed position by a spring,
  • a front-wheel drive train equipped with at least one retractable front wheel, the front undercarriage being movably mounted relative to the front plane between a retracted position in which the front wheel extends above the laying plane, and an extended position in which the front wheel protrudes from the laying plane downwards,
  • an actuating mechanism of the front undercarriage, which comprises at least one operating lever pivotally mounted on a front post in line with a movable part of a barrier, and a rod coupling the lever to the front undercarriage, so that in the folded down position the barrier places, via the lever, the running gear forward in its deployed position.

Actuation of the lever by folding at least one of the railing barriers causes the deployment of the front axle, which allows to temporarily place the step in a rolling configuration for easy movement, guardrails folded. As soon as the barrier (s) is (are) redeployed (s), the front axle regains its retracted position by gravity, the step then resting on the ground at least by its front uprights, which allows the user to climb on without risk of evasion.

  • le levier se présente sous forme d'une pièce à section en U, montée à cheval sur le montant ;
  • le levier présente une paroi frontale d'appui, et deux parois latérales encadrant le montant et par lesquelles le levier est fixé en rotation sur le montant ;

On the figure 1 is represented a step 1 intended to allow work at height. In the example illustrated, the step 1 is of the individual rolling platform type.

The step 1 comprises a front plane 2 having a pair of uprights 3 front and at least one step 4 transversely connecting the uprights 3 before. In the example shown, the step 1 comprises a single step 4 . Alternatively, several steps (including three or five) could be provided. The amounts 3 are in this case formed of metal profiles (for example aluminum or aluminum alloy), in particular rectangular section. At lower ends 5, the uprights 3 are provided with pads 6 slip.

As illustrated on the figure 1 , the step 4 is formed of a folded cut sheet. The step 4 has a grooved upper surface 7 to promote the attachment of the shoes of the user, and is fixed to the uprights 3 by means of jumpers 8 made of plastic riveted to the uprights 3.

The step 1 further comprises a rear plane 9 hinged to the front plane 2 and having a pair of rear uprights 10 and at least one bar 11 connecting the rear uprights 10 .

In the example illustrated, the rear uprights 10 are, like before uprights 3, formed of metal profiles (e.g. aluminum or aluminum alloy), in particular a rectangular section. At lower ends 12, the rear uprights 10 are provided with pads 6 slip. When the step 1 is unfolded (configuration illustrated on the Figures 1 to 7 and 10 to 14 ), the rear plane 9 forms an angle with the plane 2 before, and the ends 12 lower amounts rear 10 form, with the 5 lower ends of the uprights 3 before a laying plane P (dotted line) for one step, corresponding to an ideally flat ground S which would support the footboard 1.

In the example shown, the rear plane 9 comprises three bars 11. These bars 11 are in this case square section, but this section could be circular or oval. Depending on the height of the step 1, the number of bars 11 could be different (especially higher). Fixing the bars 11 rear uprights 10 is here made by bouterollage.

9 the rear plane is mounted articulated with respect to the plane of the two front ends 13 of the upper rear uprights 10, which are shorter than the uprights 3 before. The pivot axis of the rear plane is formed by screws 14 secured to fixed plates 15 (in this case by bolting) on external lateral faces of the uprights 3 before, as shown in the figures.

The step 1 further comprises a floor 16 which extends astride between the front plane 2 and the rear plane 9 in unfolded configuration of the step 1. This floor 16 is hingedly mounted relative to the front plane 2 via of a cylindrical lintel 17 fitted on a bar 18 connecting the uprights 3 before. The floor 16 is also articulated relative to the rear plane 9 by means of connecting rods 19, the floor 16 resting in the deployed configuration, a rod 11 connecting the struts 10 back.

According to a preferred embodiment illustrated in the figures, the floor 16 may be provided with a baseboard 20 covering three sides of the floor 16, with the exception of a front edge to facilitate the access of the user to the floor 16 by plane 2 before. This baseboard 20 forms a stop for the feet of the user and thus prevents it from tripping, limiting the risk of falling.

The step 1 is also equipped with a shelf 21 tool holder (or package carrier), which extends transversely between the uprights 3 before, at an upper end thereof. In the illustrated embodiment, the shelf 21 is fixed to the front uprights 3 by means of fittings 22 overlapping a top bar 11 connecting the rear uprights 10 .

The step 1 is also equipped with a railing 23, mounted on the front plane 2 in line with the floor 16 in unfolded configuration of the step 1, and intended to retain the user in case of imbalance, so as to minimize the risk of falling.

This railing 23 is collapsible. It comprises a pair of side rails, namely a barrier 24 left and 25 right barrier, each pivotally mounted on a front upright 3 between an extended position (shown in figures 1 , 2 , 4 , 10 , 11 , 12, 13 ) in which each barrier 24, 25 extends substantially perpendicularly to the front plane 2 , and a folded position (illustrated in FIGS. figures 5 , 6 , 7 , 9 , 11 , 14 ) in which each barrier 24, 25 extends substantially parallel to the front plane 2 , in the vicinity of the latter. Each barrier 24, 25 has a U-shaped profile and is preferably formed of a metal tube (for example aluminum or aluminum alloy) folded. Each barrier 24, 25 has an upper section or ramp 26, intended to extend at the height of the trunk of the user (between the belt and the bust), an intermediate section or main 27 current, vertical in the deployed position of the barrier 24, 25 and unfolded configuration of the step 1 , and a lower section 28 . Each barrier 24, 25 is hinged relative to the upright 3 before by its ramp 26 and its lower section 28 , both mounted on coaxial pivots 29 (formed in this case by screws) secured to clevises 30 in which are housed in the deployed position, the respective ends of the ramp 26 and the lower section 28 .

Des verrous 31, par exemple sous forme de fils repliés à l'équerre montés pivotants par rapport aux montants 3 avant, assurent le maintien réversible des barrières 24, 25 en position déployée (cf. notamment figure 1), tandis que le pivotement des verrous 31 permet de rabattre les barrières 24, 25 (cf. notamment figure 5).Latches 31, for example in the form of wires folded to the bracket pivotally mounted relative to the uprights 3 before, ensure the reversible maintenance of the barriers 24, 25 in the deployed position (see in particular figure 1 ), while the pivoting of the latches 31 makes it possible to fold down the barriers 24, 25 (see in particular figure 5 ).

Flexible sleeves 32 are fitted to the ends of the handrails 27 to stiffen the strength of the barriers 24, 25 and cushion the shocks during their deployment.

The guardrail may further comprise a movable gate (not shown), mounted between the barriers (for example in the form of a chain or a bar) to retain the unbalanced user towards the front of the step, while defining the workspace so that only one user can move with ease on the floor 16.

To allow the mobility of the step 1 in unfolded configuration when the user is lowered, the step 1 is provided with retractable wheels.

Specifically, the step 1 is equipped with a pair of retractable rear wheels 33 movably mounted relative to the rear plane 9 between a retracted position in which the rear wheels 33 extend above the laying plane P , and a position deployed in which the rear wheels 33 extend at least partially below the laying plane P. Each rear wheel 33 is permanently biased towards its deployed position by a spring 34 (in this case a compression spring). According to a preferred embodiment illustrated in the figures, each rear wheel 33 is mounted on a rear upright 9 by means of a U-shaped mounting plate 35 , comprising a core 36 through which the plate 35 is fixed (in species by screwing) to the amount 10, and two arms 37 projecting transverse.

The wheel 33 is mounted at the lower end of a support shaft 38 , slidably fitted to the ends of the arms 37 with the interposition of the spring 34, as illustrated in the inset on the figure 1 , and on the figure 8 . As we see on the figure 1 , a cover can be fitted on the plate 35 to cover the spring and thus prevent dust and debris from the construction site come to hinder the proper functioning of the spring 34. On the figure 1 , only one cache is visible (on the right), the left cache having been omitted (as on the figure 8 ) to reveal the spring 34 and the plate 35.

The spring 34 is tared so that:
  • when a mass exceeding a predetermined threshold is placed on the step 1 in unfolded configuration substantially vertical to its center of gravity (typically a user perched on the floor 16), the spring 34 is compressed to the point that the wheel 33 is tangent to the plane P of installation above it, as shown on the left on the figure 8 ,
  • on the other hand, the mass of the step 1 alone (in the absence of additional mass, and in particular when no user is perched on the floor 16), is not sufficient to compress the spring 34 to the point that the wheel 33 s extended above the laying plane P , the wheel 33 then protruding from the plane P of laying down under the action of the spring 34, as illustrated on the right on the figure 8 .

In other words, when the user is perched on the step 1, the rear wheels 33 are retracted and the step 1 rests on the ground S, at the rear plane 9 , by its pads 6. When the user is not perched on the step 1, the rear wheels 33 are deployed and the step 1 rests, at the rear plane 9 , on the ground S by its rear wheels 33 , the laying plane P being raised relative to the ground S .

Although the rear wheels 33 are shown in a position in which they extend substantially parallel to the rear plane 9 , they are however mounted freely pivotable both around their central axis of rolling and around their shaft 38 support.

The step 1 further comprises a train 39 rolling forward, equipped with at least one wheel 40 - and in this case a pair of wheels 40 - before retractable (as shown in FIG. figure 1 ).

The forward rolling gear 39 is movably mounted relative to the front plane 2 between a retracted position in which the front wheels 40 extend above the laying plane P (FIG. figure 2 ), and an extended position in which the front wheels 40 protrude from the plane P of laying down ( figure 7 ).

According to a preferred embodiment illustrated in the Figures, the undercarriage 39 comprises a cross profile 41 substantially U pivotally mounted between the uprights 3 back in the vicinity of their lower ends 5. As illustrated on figures 1 and 3 the cross-member 41 comprises a central section 42 , which extends transversely, and at the opposite ends of the central section 42 , two angled returns 43 through which the cross-member 41 is rotatably mounted on the uprights 3 before, for example by bolting (but this pivoting attachment could be made by screwing or riveting).

As we see on the figure 1 (Where one of the wheels is masked by the front post 3 located to the right), the wheels 40 are preferably mounted on the central section 42 in the vicinity of the returns 43, so as to maximize the stability of the step 1, but the wheels 43 could be deported to the center of Central Section 42 .

As can be seen from the figures 2 and 7 each front wheel 40 is mounted on the cross member 41 by means of a shaft 44 bolted to a bracket 45 secured to the transom 41. Like the rear wheels 33 , each front wheel 40 is freely pivotable both around its axis of travel and around its shaft 44 support.

As shown in particular in the figures, the step 1 further comprises a mechanism 46 for actuating the train 39 before, to control are deployment (in anticipation of the movement of the step 1) or conversely allow it to retract.

This actuating mechanism 46 comprises at least one lever 47 maneuvering articulated on a post 3 before, and a rod 48 coupling the lever 47 to the train 39 rolling forward. The fixing of the lever 47 is for example carried out by means of a pivot 49 (such as a bolt) which forms the axis of rotation of the lever 47.

As seen in the figures, the lever 47 is mounted in the vicinity of the articulation of one of the barriers (in this case the barrier 25 right). More specifically, the lever 47 is mounted on the upright 3 to the right of a portion of the barrier 25, in this case to the right of the ramp 26, so that by folding the barrier 25 the ramp 26 abuts against the lever 47 to switch, as will be explained below.

According to a first embodiment illustrated on the Figures 1 to 7 , the lever 47 is in the form of a U-shaped section (metal or plastic) mounted on the upright 3. The lever 47 has a front wall 50 , of which an end portion opposite the pivot 49 s extends to the right of the ramp 26 of the barrier 25, and two side walls, namely an outer lateral wall 51 and an inner lateral wall 52 , which frame the upright 3 and through which the lever 47 is fixed on the upright 3.

One of the sidewalls (in this case the inner wall 52 ) has an end portion 53 protruding from the upright 3 away from the front wall 50 towards the inside of the step 1. In this portion 53 end is made a bore 54 in which is introduced a folded upper end 55 of the rod 48 (which is in this case in the form of a metal rod with a small diameter circular section) to achieve the pivot connection between the rod 48 and the lever 47 for maneuvering.

Similarly, one of the returns 43 at right angles to the cross member 41 is pierced with a hole 56 into which an end 57 is inserted. lower folded of the rod 48 to achieve the pivot connection between the rod 48 and the cross 41.

The rod 48 runs along the upright 3 before, the bore 54 in the lever 47 and the hole 56 in the crossbar 41 being situated in the vicinity of a rear face of the upright 3. To avoid buckling of the rod 48 during its operation, the step 1 is equipped with a guide 58 fixed on the upright 3 substantially midway between the lever 47 and the train 39 rolling forward, and wherein the rod 48 is slidably mounted. This guidance allows to use for the realization of the rod 48 a small diameter rod, which will have the advantage of lightness and visual discretion. The rod 48 along the amount 3 before, it does not present any gene or any risk for the user. The aesthetics of step 1 are also preserved.

In unfolded configuration of the step 1, whether it supports a load or not, the front wheel 40 extends above the laying plane P. In practice, the wheel 40 before rests by gravity on the ground S, confused in this situation with the laying plane P.

When the user wishes to move the step 1 from which he descended, he can operate the lever 47:
  • or directly by pressing on the front wall 50 until it abuts against the upright 3 before,
  • or indirectly via the barrier 25, by folding it, the ramp 26 coming to press on the front wall 50 .

In both cases, the lever 47, swinging around its pivot 49, in turn rotates, via the rod 48, the train 39 rolling forward to its deployed position.

The rear wheels 33 are already in the deployed position in the absence of sufficient load on the step 1 , it is placed in a rolling configuration ( figure 7 ) where it rests on the ground S by its wheels 33, 40, the laying plane P being raised relative to the ground S.

It is then sufficient for the user, while maintaining the pressure on the lever 47 or maintaining the (or) barrier (s) folded (s), to move the step 1 in its running configuration to the desired position , then release the lever 47 or redeploy the (or) barrier (s) 25 (and 26). Rear wheels 33 remain in the deployed position (amounts remaining 10 back and raised above ground S), but the wheels 40 before they find gravity retracted position, however, that the front pillars 3 will contact the ground S ). This intermediate configuration (rear wheels 33 deployed, wheels 40 before retracted) allows the user to go back on the step 1 safely, the uprights 3 before ensuring, via the pads 6, the holding in position of the step 1 without risk of Unexpected evasion of it.

The angular travel of the operating lever 47 (and thus of the crossbar 41 ) is not necessarily important. In fact, in the illustrated example, this angular stroke is small, of the order of (or less than) about 15 °. It is sufficient that the extended position of the front train 39 causes a slight elevation of the uprights 3 before to allow the running of the step 1.

According to an alternative embodiment, not shown, a second lever is provided on the other post 3 before, to ensure control of the tilting of the rolling train 39 before both sides of the step 1 . Alternatively, a crossbar can connect the levers to synchronize their tilting, in the manner of a panic bar fire door.

As we see on the figure 9 , the rear plane 9 is shorter than the front plane 2 , so that when the step 1 is folded, the uprights 3 forward exceed rear uprights 10 . In the folded configuration of the step 1 with the barriers 24, 25 folded back, the roller 39 front end is deployed and exceeds both the 5 lower ends of the uprights 3 before and ends 12 below the struts 10 back, so that it is possible, while keeping the footrest 1 folded, that is to say that the rear plane 9 is secured to the front plane 2 (for example by means of a strap 59, as illustrated, or using an integrated fixing means, such as a hook, mounted on the rear plane 9 , cooperating with a fastener mounted on the front plane 2 ), to maneuver it by rolling on its wheels 40 before. Note that when the step is correctly inclined (which corresponds, in the example shown, to the horizontality of the shelf 21), the shafts 44 of the front wheels are perpendicular to the ground S, so that it is possible to rotate the wheels 40 and thus guide at will the step 1.

Now described with reference to Figures 10 and 11 , a second embodiment of the step 1, which differs from the first by the embodiment of the lever 47, the other characteristics being retained.

In this second embodiment indeed, the operating lever 47 is in the form of a wafer (preferably metal, for reasons of rigidity and robustness), a front section 60 of which projects from the plane 2 front, and a rear section 61 , opposite the front section 60 and separated therefrom by the pivot 49, is provided with a bore 54 for the upper end 55 of the rod 48.

As we see on the Figures 10 and 11 , The lever 47 extends substantially in line with the rail 26 of one of the barriers (in this case the barrier 25, right), and the front section 60 terminates in a beveled end 62 free.

The pivoting of the barrier 25 towards its folded position raises, via the beveled end 62 , the lever 47 which in turn tilts, via the rod 48, the front gear 39 towards its deployed position ( figure 11 ).

This embodiment is not intended for manual operation of the lever 47, but it is not forbidden for the user to maneuver the lever 47 directly without folding the barrier 25.

As previously mentioned, two levers 47 can be provided (one on each amount 3 before), to allow a distribution of efforts. Each lever 47 is in this case tilted by a barrier 25, 26. The simultaneous pivoting of the barriers 25, 26 thus causes the simultaneous tilting of the levers 47, which act in concert on the front gear 39 .

  • ajout d'un renvoi 63 comprenant, d'une part, une poignée 64 déportée montée articulée sur la main 27 courante de la barrière 25 située du côté du levier 47 (c'est-à-dire, en l'espèce, la barrière 25 droite) et, d'autre part, une tige 65 de liaison de la poignée 64 au levier, cette tige 65 présentant une extrémité 66 avant coudée, située du côté du levier 47, et une extrémité 67 arrière opposée, située du côté de la poignée 64 ;
Now described with reference to Figures 12, 13 and 14 , a third embodiment of the step, which differs from the first by an actuating mechanism 46 modified by:
  • addition of a reference 63 comprising, on the one hand, a remote handle 64 mounted articulated on the current hand 27 of the barrier 25 located on the side of the lever 47 (that is to say, in this case, the barrier 25 ) and, on the other hand, a rod 65 connecting the handle 64 to the lever, this rod 65 having a front end 66 bent, located on the side of the lever 47, and an opposite rear end 67 , located on the side of the lever. the handle 64;
  • modification of the lever 47 by adding a hole 68 into which the end 66 is inserted before the rod 65 .

The other features of the first embodiment are retained.

As we see on the Figures 12 to 14 , the hole 68 is pierced in a lug 69 formed protruding on the lever 47, in a lower portion thereof. The tab 69 is folded substantially square to the outer 51 of the lever 47. When the barrier 25 is folded down, the rod 65 pivots around its front end 66 housed in the hole 68 ( figure 14 ). Similarly, the handle 64 is provided with a portion 70 of upper end pierced with a hole in which is housed the rear end 67 .

As a result of this configuration, the lever 47 (and thus the front gear 39 ) can be maneuvered by manual action on the remote handle 64 when the barrier 25 is in its extended position, as shown in FIG. figure 13 , on which arrows indicate the rotational movement of the handle 64 and the lever 47. The action on the handle 64 can be performed as long as the barrier 25 is deployed, and that the user is descended from the step 1, c ' that is to say that it is free of charge. The pivoting of the handle 64 (in this case by manual tightening, in the manner of a bicycle brake) pushes the rod 65 towards the lever 47, causing the tilting thereof around its pivot 49, and therefore the tilting, via the rod 48, of the train 39 before.

The ramp 26 presses on the front wall 50 of the lever 47 and, by tilting thereof in the folded position of the barrier 25, causes the tilting of the front gear 39 towards its extended position allowing the running of the step 1. This action causes also the tilting of the handle 64 via the rod 65. Thus, in the folded position of the barrier 25, the return 63 is rendered inactive, the handle 64 being kept tilted via the rod 65 ( figure 14 ).

This configuration improves the ergonomics of the step 1 relative to the first embodiment, insofar as the user can, by holding the step 1 by the handrails 27, both deploy the train 39 before and move the step 1 to the desired position, without having to bend or reach for the lever 47.

The step 1 which has just been described provides the following advantages in particular.

First, the deployment of the front rolling train 29 can be achieved without difficulty, to the benefit of ergonomics for the user.

Secondly, thanks to the automatic deployment of the rolling train 29 in the folded position of the barriers 24, 25, it suffices for the user to fold them down so as to then move the step 1, without having to exert any effort on the lever 47 (or the handle 64 in the case of the third embodiment). This results in less fatigue for the user, and better freedom of movement.

Third, as we have seen, the running of the step 1 can be achieved without difficulty when the step 1 is folded (with a maintenance of the rear plane 9 against the front plane 2 ) and the barriers 24, 25 of the railing are folded, thanks to the deployment of the train 39 before.

The safety of the user is further preserved since the folded position of the barriers 24, 25, which places the train 39 rolling in its deployed position to allow the running of the step 1, prevents the user from climbing on it by denying access to the floor 16.

It goes without saying that the embodiments described above are illustrative. Various variants could be envisaged without departing from the scope of the invention.

In particular, and as we have already mentioned, although a single lever 47 is provided in the embodiments described, it is possible to mount one on each upright 3, so as to balance the efforts. Each lever can be actuated by a respective barrier, or the two levers can be coupled via a force bar, in the manner of an anti-panic bar.

Similarly, the lever 47 as described above (whatever the embodiment) is mounted to the right of the ramp 26 to avoid structural modifications of the barrier 25. However, if we want to spare the possibility for the user to manually operate on steps of high height, this assembly could be uncomfortable (requiring the user to extend the arm height to reach the lever 47 ), or impractical, the lever 47 proving out of reach. It can therefore be envisaged to position the lever 47 lower on the upright 3, and to add to the barrier 25 a part for operating the lever 47 when the barrier 25 is folded. This piece is for example in the form of a tab or tube secured to a bar connecting the ramp 26 to the lower section 28 parallel to the upright 3, in the vicinity of the pivots 29.
