- a heating power in the coils inductively over the respective coil L3, L4 are transmitted. This inductive form of transmitting a heating power is particularly preferred in dimmable operating circuits.
- the lower heating coil or the connection 9 for the lower heating coil is connected via a voltage divider to a second voltage Vdd.
- the voltage divider is formed by connecting two resistors R1, R6 in series between the second voltage Vdd and the terminal 9.
- connection point between these two resistors R1, R6 is connected to the first terminal 11 for controlling the higher-potential switch S1.
- this connection point may be connected to the second connection 12 of the control unit 5 for controlling the potential-low switch S2.
- a DC path or a DC path 14 is formed via the lower coil of the luminous means 4 and the resistors R6, R1 mounted between the terminals 9, 10.
- This DC path 14 (or DC detection path 14 called) can be detected whether a bulb malfunction or a fault condition exists.
- a lamp failure can e.g. consist in that there is a spiral break, that the light source has not been used, or that the light source has been removed.
- the control unit 5 can infer the presence of a luminous means 4 and use this knowledge for the further operation of the luminous means 4.
- an ASIC 5 can drive both the high level S1 and the low level switch S2 of a half-bridge inverter 2, which supplies the load circuit 13 with the gas discharge lamp 4.
- the number of required pins 11, 12 of the ASIC 5 can be reduced.
- a single pin 11 of the ASIC 5 is used both for detecting the lamp 4 used and for driving the high-level switch Sldes half-bridge inverter 2.
- this pin 11 of the ASIC 5 can be detected whether a lamp 4 is used with a coil or not, especially since the voltage at this pin depends on the inserted coil or not.
- the detection of the coil used is preferably carried out in a so-called standby state in which the half-bridge 2 is not clocked.
- a DC path 14 is connected to the filament of the gas discharge lamp 4.
- a combination of the low level switch S2 of the inverter 2 with a DC detection path for a lamp 4 used is basically also possible, but does not have the advantages of, for example, the galvanic isolation, which is usually present at the high level switch S1.
- the ASIC 5 can of course be in addition to the in Fig. 1 shown two pins 11, 12 (output signal low level switch, output signal high level switch combined with DC detection path for the lamp) still have more pins. Of primary importance for the invention is that the function "lamp present" is combined with “high-level drive” at one pin of the ASIC 5.
- the DC detection path 14 can not be as in Fig. 1 represented by the potential-low helix, but also by the potential higher helix, or even by both.
- the voltage Vdd can be generated internally in the ASIC 5, for example.
- the lamp filament When the lamp filament is inserted, the lamp filament together with the resistor R1 and the resistor R6 form a voltage divider and thus the DC path 14, so that when the filament is inserted, a different voltage results at the detection pin 11 than in the absence of a filament.
- a power source may be internally turned on to the detection pin 11 (in the standby state), so that the DC current flows only when the coil is present.
- the common denominator of both embodiments is that the coil used forms part of a DC path 14 toward the sense pin 11.
- the ASIC 5 preferably has at least one further pin in order to be supplied with a not yet powered half-bridge 2 via a start-up circuit with a resistor also from the mains voltage.
- the ASIC 5 is then preferably supplied from the midpoint voltage of the half-bridge inverter 2.
- the detection of the presence of the helix or the generation of the output signal for the high-level switch S1 takes place in time-separated periods.
- the period for detecting the presence of the coil is the period in which the half-bridge 2 is not operated. This embodiment is particularly advantageous if the period of time that remains when the half-bridge 2 is actively operated and the high-level switch S1 is not switched on may be too short for detection.
- the control unit is in particular designed to transmit control signals with a level of e.g. 13V and measuring signals with a low level of e.g. 3.3V to receive.
- the invention can also be used for drivers for LEDs.
- a resonant half-bridge converter can be used.
- a terminal detection can be done or information about the LED can be read.
- a coding element can be arranged parallel to the LED.
- the coding element can be formed by a resistor or DIP switch. The value of the resistor or the set combination of the DIP switch can thus be read out as information such as binning, Nominalstrom- or color information on the LED.

- In
Gasentladungslampen, insbesondere Leuchtstofflampen in Frage.
Fig. 1 als Halbbrücke realisiert ist.
