Definitions

  • the present invention refers, in general, to a leveler for tiles.
  • the present invention refers to a leveler that is able to bring two or more tiles to the same level, the leveler being put in contact with or close to said tiles.
  • levelers for tiles, able to obtain a good leveling of a plurality of tiles for which such levelers are used.
  • the tiles are glued on supports that are not always perfectly planar.
  • the main difficulties to face during the lying of the tiles consist in the removal of the differences of level between the tiles and in the formation of the so-called "joint" that is the space that separates two adjacent tiles.
  • the known levelers usually comprise two elements, namely, a support and a pressing body.
  • the support is provided with a bearing base and a portal structure that protrudes orthogonally to the base.
  • the base is put on the glue and two or more tiles are positioned partially on the base.
  • the positioning of the base is accomplished in such a way that the edges of two adjacent tiles are in abutment on the wall of the portal structure so as to remain separated at a desired distance corresponding to the joint.
  • the pressing body is shaped like a wedge that slides on the tiles until its abutment surface engages the crossbar of the portal structure in order to provoke a thrust toward the pressing body, or a thrust orthogonal to the laying plane of the tiles.
  • the tiles are pressed between the base and the wedge so as to carry out the leveling of such tiles.
  • the wedge is removed and the portal structure is eliminated by provoking the breakage of the structure itself.
  • This breakage is usually facilitated by the presence of a predefined stress raiser, obtained in the junction between the base and the portal structure.
  • the support is a so-called element to lose since a part is trapped between the tiles while another part is removed and is no more recoverable.
  • a back sliding of the wedge can cause a misalignment of the tiles.
  • Another undesirable consequence is the rubbing occurring between the wedge and the tiles with which the wedge comes in contact. The rubbing is often due the presence of dust or the like ruining the surface and the finish of the tiles, which affects the final aesthetic effect of the floor or wall.
  • the crossbar of the portal structure protrudes upward variably. Consequently, the pressing body or wedge to be used must be provided with additional thicknesses. Otherwise, dedicated supports have to be utilized for each variation of thickness of the tiles that are applied each time. However, this variety of necessary elements weights heavily on the supply costs.
  • levelers comprise supports that have a base from which an element departs. This element is threaded at the opposite end with respect to the base so that said element can be screwed onto a corresponding thread obtained on a cylindrical element that is placed above the tiles.
  • Said cylindrical element is screwed onto the threaded element and performs the function of traction of the base, which function was performed by the wedge.
  • the load is applied at one only point corresponding to the junction of the threaded element with the base, which involves thus possible alignment errors between the tiles or other problems.
  • levelers are difficult to use on the edges of the tiles because spacers, commonly called “crosses”, are usually used to maintain a proper spacing between two tiles.
  • Said crosses are another element to lose because the crosses are placed at the intersections of the joints to maintain the proper distances between the tiles and remain embedded in the laying.
  • Document EP2514886A1 discloses a leveller having the features in the preamble of claim 1.
  • An aim of the present invention is to provide a leveler that overcomes the problems of the known systems.
  • Another aim is to provide a leveler that comprises elements able to operate more quickly and accurately.
  • Another aim is to avoid the rubbing with the tile surface that will remain visible after the laying of the tiles.
  • a leveler for laying and leveling slabs, tiles and similar comprising:
  • the leveler is characterized in that it comprises, in addition, a guide, adapted to be coupled to the support and interposed between the two or more tiles and the knob.
  • the leveler according to the invention allows to interpose the guide between the knob and the two or more tiles to be leveled so as to protect the surface of the tiles and to show a regular coupling surface between guide and knob.
  • the two or more ramps of the knob may be inclined so as to be slidably coupled to said two or more counteracting faces of the support so that a rotation of the knob involves an approach or a removal of the base of the support to or from the knob.
  • the leveler may comprise a numbering to indicate a series of values related to the distance between knob and support so that a given rotation of the knob, coupled to the support, may be visibly correlated to the distance between a point on the knob and the base of the support.
  • the numbering may be shown on the knob and in addition, an index and/or a spoke may corresponds to each element of the numbering so as to improve the visibility of the specific element of the numbering to which it is near.
  • said guide may comprise a cross with a main branch in which a recess is obtained to allow said one or more legs and said two or more counteracting faces to pass when the guide is coupled to the support with a sliding coupling.
  • the cross shape allows to minimize the material needed for the construction of the guide.
  • the sliding coupling allows to maintain all the elements of the leveler in a correct orientation during the leveling operations.
  • the guide may comprise two or more teeth protruding from the cross in a radial direction so as to be more visible and/or protruding in a direction orthogonal to the radial direction so as to separate said two or more tiles.
  • the guide may comprise three teeth when the leveler is positioned in a point where three tiles converge or alternatively, four teeth when the leveler is positioned in a point where four tiles converge.
  • the points of intersection of the tiles namely the so-called T-shaped intersection points, and the points of intersection of four converging tiles are leveled easily.
  • the guide may be made in a plurality of colors, each number of teeth having one or more colors uniquely connected to it. Thus, an operator may distinguish more easily the guides having a different number of teeth.
  • the support may comprise a base and an arc, said arc in turn comprising two legs and a crossbar at whose sides two arms protrude, the two or more counteracting faces being obtained on said two arms.
  • said two or more ramps may comprise one portion having an inclination equal to the inclination of the two or more faces of the support and one or more further portions having an inclination different from that of said one portion.
  • number 10 denotes a leveler comprising a knob 12, a guide 38 and a support 60.
  • the knob 12 is annular and comprises a main body 14 inside which two ramps 16 protrude, being embossed, and have a central symmetry with respect to the center of the knob 12.
  • each ramp 16 develops starting from a vicinity of a lower face 18 to an upper face 20.
  • Each ramp 16 comprises three portions having a different inclination to each other, each of them being continuous to the preceding one.
  • a first portion 24 shows a first inclination, for instance of twenty degrees, with respect to the lower face 18.
  • a second portion 26 shows a second inclination, for instance of ten degrees, and the third portion 28 shows a third inclination, for instance equal to the first inclination.
  • the length of the first portion 24 and the length of the third portion 28 are less than the length of the second portion 26.
  • An edge 22 protrudes outside the main body 14 and in the vicinity of the lower face 18.
  • the edge 22 shows a first part of a numbering 30.
  • An index 32 protrudes from the outside of the main body 14 at each element of the first part of the numbering 30.
  • Ten spokes 34 protrude at regular intervals from the outside of the main body 14. Further elements of a second part of the numbering 30 are shown at the top of the ten spokes 34. The function of the numbering 30 is described below.
  • the guide 38 comprises a cross 40 from which a tower 42 protrudes.
  • a central hole 44 passes through the tower 42 and the cross 40.
  • the cross 40 includes a main branch 46 that is presented with central symmetry with respect to the central hole 44.
  • a recess 48 is obtained in the main branch 46 and extends along most of the main branch 46 and also along the tower 42, as visible in figure 6 .
  • the recess 48 has two enlargements 50 at its ends. Also said enlargements 50 have central symmetry with respect to the central hole 44. In the vicinity of each enlargement 50, a tooth 52 protrudes. Each tooth 52 protrudes from the cross 40 both in the opposite direction to the development of the tower 42, and outside the perimeter of the cross 40.
  • a secondary branch 54 has a shape similar to that of the main branch 46 and develops according to a direction orthogonal to the main branch 46.
  • edges 56 develop at the ends of the main branch 46 and secondary branch 54, only one edge being represented in figure 6 .
  • the guide 38 may be made according to some constructive variants.
  • a guide 138 comprises three teeth 52 while a guide 238 comprises four teeth 52. In both cases, the teeth protrude from the respective secondary branches.
  • the presence of two, three or four teeth 52 allows to respectively use the guide 38, the guide 138 or the guide 238 according to where the leveler is to be positioned to obtain an optimal laying, as described below.
  • each guide may be made of a material showing a particular color, different from the colors of the other guides, so as to allow a more rapid selection of the correct guide to be used in a specific situation in which an operator has to lay and level the tiles.
  • teeth 52 may be achieved easily with an only mold through a particular position that allows to choose whether or not to make them by means of plugs movable in the mold.
  • the support 60 comprises a base 62 from which an arc 64 rises.
  • the arc 64 comprises two legs 66 and a crossbar 68.
  • a tip 70 rises from the center of the crossbar 68 while two arms 72 protrude from the lateral ends of the crossbar 68, said arms 72 having a greater thickness compared to the crossbar 68 and the remaining part of the arc 64.
  • a face 74 of each arm 72 which face is facing the base 62, has a surface inclined at a predetermined angle, for instance this surface has the same second inclination of ten degrees as the second portion 26 of the knob 12. Obviously, the inclination of the faces 74 may be varied depending on the needs.
  • Each mustache 76 protrude from the two ends of the base 62, in the vicinity of the legs 66. Each mustache 76 is interrupted by a cavity 78 in the vicinity of the legs 62.
  • Stress raisers 80 are obtained at the ends of the legs 66 in the area of connection to the base 62 to facilitate the localized breakage in the last phases of utilization of the levelers 10.
  • an operator may use the leveler 10 to level two or more tiles (not visible in figure). At first, the operator positions the support 60. Then, the operator positions the two or more tiles so that the base 62 of the support 60 may be covered by said tiles.
  • the sides of the tiles come in contact with the two legs 66 so as to be at the correct distance and obtain the desired joints.
  • the tip 70 and the two arms 72 protrude from the two or more tiles.
  • the operator couples the guide 38 to the support 60 on maintaining the correct orientation of the guide 38 through the presence of the enlargements 50 allowing the passage of the arms 72 and avoiding different couplings. If the operator proves to couple the guide 38 to the support 60 in another way, the respective shapes do not allow such a coupling.
  • the only possible coupling is the coupling described above in which the tip 70 is inserted in the central hole 44 of the guide 38, the arms 72 are inserted in the enlargements 50 and the crossbar 68 of the support 60 is inserted in the recess 48.
  • the teeth 52 are inserted between the sides of the tiles so that the tiles are kept at the right distance to obtain optimal joints on cooperating to this end with the legs 66.
  • the guide 38 rests on the outer surfaces of the tiles and at the same time, is coupled to the support 60.
  • the operator couples the knob 12 to the guide 38 so that the first portions 24 of the ramps 16 may be inserted between the arms 72 of the support 60 and the cross 40 of the guide 38.
  • the coupling of the lower face 18 of the knob 12 to the edges 56 of the guide 38 allows a correct centering of the two elements of the leveler 10.
  • the numbering 30 allows the operator to know at any time the distance between the base 62 and the cross 40 of the guide 38. In fact, as visible in figure 14 , in the vicinity of the first portion 24 of the ramp 16, the numbering includes a number sixteen shown on the spokes 34.
  • the presence of the numbering 30 allows the operator to rotate clockwise the knob 12 so as to bring the faces 74 of the arms 72 of the support 60 to engage the ramps 16 of the knob 12.
  • the distance between the base 62 of the support 60 and the cross 40 of the guide 38 decreases until reaching the condition in which said distance is equal to the thickness of the tiles.
  • the operator can verify this condition by means of the numbering 30 and can adjust, at any time, the torque to be applied to the knob 12 for its rotation.
  • the leveler 10 it is possible with the leveler 10 to lay many tiles having different thicknesses by simply adjusting the rotation of the knob 12 to the thickness of the tiles that the operator has to lay each time.
  • the leveler 10 allows to operate with tiles having thicknesses of four to sixteen millimeters and therefore, to operate with almost all of the tiles available in the building sector. Obviously, such dimensioning is not limitative for the purposes of the invention because as the tiles and tile thicknesses vary, it is possible to obtain a leveler 10 suitably sized.
  • the leveler 10 is used to level a first tile P and a second tile Q that is misaligned with respect to the first tile P, as it appears from figure 15 ; it is possible to see how the base 62 of the support 60 is in contact with the bottom of the second tile Q and is detached, at the same time, from the bottom of the first tile P. A proper lateral proximity of the first tile P to the second tile Q is maintained by interposing the teeth 52 of the guide 38.
  • the mustaches 76 of the support 60 are the first to come into contact with the bottom of the tiles. Then, the mustaches 76 undergo such a deformation to bring all the surface of the base 62 in contact with the bottom of the tiles. In this way, the mustaches 76 allow a gradual approach of the base 62 to the bottom of the tiles.
  • the leveler 10 is maintained in the aligned configuration of figure 17 until the glue with which the tiles were laid solidifies or until reaching the fixing conditions of the tiles in which it is no more possible to change the position of the tiles.
  • knobs 12 and supports 60 equal to the number of the points at which an optimal leveling is desired, by coupling them to one of the guide variants described above and varying thus the number of the teeth 52 engaged.
  • Each leveler comprises a guide 38 that is arranged with the respective teeth 52 along the sides of the four tiles P.
  • the presence of the teeth 52 allows to obtain a correct spacing between a tile and another one.
  • such levelers are used to level and space two facing tiles.
  • Each leveler comprises a guide 238, and therefore four teeth 52 so that also in this case it is possible to ensure an optimal leveling and a simultaneous maintenance of the correct distances between tiles in order to obtain joints of exact dimensions.
  • Each leveler comprises a guide 138 having three teeth 52. Said meeting point is commonly called T-point.
  • the leveler according to the invention allows the operator to easily level the tiles to be laid and at the same time to maintain the proper distances between a tile and another tile in order to obtain the desired joints. Besides, it is possible to avoid the use of the crosses of the prior art that are to be embedded between the joints, which entails a considerable saving.
  • the leveler according to the invention may comprise a support with a base without mustaches.
