Definitions

  • the invention relates to lighting and/or signaling devices for motor vehicles.
  • a headlamp capable of producing either a main beam or a daytime type beam, using the same light source and the same lens.
  • the source is formed by a filament lamp or a discharge lamp.
  • the projector has a filter mounted to move between a position in which it intercepts the light rays from the source and a position in which it leaves them free. Two different beams are therefore obtained by means of the same optical unit.
  • JP2007109532A describes a light module comprising light sources arranged on a set of aligned focal points of a lens unit.
  • An object of the invention is to produce two types of beams by means of a device without resorting to such a mechanism for passing from one beam to the other.
  • an optical module according to claim 1 is provided according to the invention.
  • the beam produced by the module is determined.
  • the LEDs allow the module to be made in a compact and economical form. And there is no need to provide the module with a mechanism for the beam change, which avoids the problems of assembly, adjustment and longevity associated with it.
  • At least one of the light sources has a light emission axis, this axis passing through the lens.
  • At least one of the light sources is arranged so that the beam which it emits enters directly into the lens.
  • At least one of the sources is located at a focal point of the lens.
  • the lens has a line of focal points on which the sources are located.
  • the lens has a light exit face having a section of elliptical shape in at least one vertical plane.
  • the exit of the light rays from the lens in the horizontal planes is favored.
  • the module is arranged to produce, by means of the lens, a beam capable of constituting part, in particular all, of a regulatory beam having no cutoff, in particular a beam of the daytime lighting type.
  • the module is arranged to produce a single beam using all the sources.
  • it is arranged to produce by means of the lens two different lighting beams.
  • a beam of the daytime running light or DRL (Daytime Running Light) type for example, a beam of the daytime running light or DRL (Daytime Running Light) type.
  • the module comprises means for choosing an electric current supply voltage of at least one of the sources between two non-zero values.
  • this source It is thus possible to supply this source with a relatively high voltage when this source is used without the others being switched on or is used with a reduced number of other sources. Conversely, when this source is used with all the other sources or with a large number of sources, its supply voltage can be reduced to obtain a better distribution of the light.
  • the module can include a cover capable of forming a cut in a beam produced by means of the lens.
  • the lenses are two in number and each capable of producing a beam.
  • a lighting and/or signaling device for a vehicle which comprises a first optical module according to the invention.
  • the device further comprises at least one second module arranged to produce a beam supplementing a beam produced by means of the first module to form a cut-off beam.
  • the orthogonal coordinate system X, Y, Z is used below in which the direction Z is vertical and the directions X and Y horizontal, the direction X being parallel to the direction of travel of the vehicle.
  • the device 2 comprises a base module which comprises a single lens 4 and light sources formed by LEDs 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16.
  • the LEDs here are six in number but this number is not limiting. It could be equal to two, three, four, five or even be greater than six.
  • the lens has two median planes of symmetry parallel respectively to the X and Y directions and to the X and Z directions
  • the lens has a vertical front face 20 which has an elliptical shape in the vertical sections taken in the planes parallel to the X and Z directions, as shown in figure 1 . That 22 of the two foci of the ellipse which is closest to the face 20 is located on the face 18.
  • the lens thus comprises a line of foci parallel to the direction Y and situated in its median horizontal plane.
  • This elliptical shape which is the same in all the sections rests on a curve which forms the section of the lens in its median horizontal plane.
  • This section can be given various shapes depending on the beams to be produced by the device. This is a parabolic shape. But it could also be an elliptical shape.
  • the elliptical shape of the vertical section makes it possible to orient the light rays which emerge from the lens in horizontal planes or to give them a direction slightly inclined with respect to the horizontal direction.
  • All the sources are aligned along a straight line coinciding with the line of the foci and inscribed in the face 18.
  • Each of the sources is therefore located at the aforementioned focus of the corresponding vertical section of the face 20. All have their emitting face in surface contact with the face 18 so that the latter receives the light coming from each of the LEDs.
  • the source 10 is located on the optical axis 7.
  • the two sources 6 and 8 are located in the left part of the lens while the other three 12, 14 and 16 are located in its right part. Other arrangements of the sources are of course possible.
  • the basic module comprises means 17 for controlling the lighting of the LED 10 and means 19 for controlling the lighting of the other LEDs, common to them. You can therefore choose to light only LED 10, the other LEDs remaining off, or to light all the LEDs at the same time.
  • control means 17 are configured to make it possible to choose the electric current supply voltage of the LED 10 between two non-zero values which are different from each other.
  • the device 2 further comprises at least one complementary module 40 illustrated in figure 1 .
  • This module is completely separate from the base module. It comprises means for producing a lighting beam independent of the beam produced by the base module. These means comprise for example at least one lens 42 and at least one light source 44 such as an LED.
  • This module 40 has the function of producing a beam which complements the beam emitted by the base module to obtain the desired regulatory beam.
  • the base module is capable in this case of producing a choice of two beams 26, 28 illustrated respectively in figures 5 and 6 as they appear on a flat vertical screen perpendicular to the direction X, arranged in front of the device.
  • Beam 26 is a flat or low type beam. It is observed that the device sends little or no light above the horizontal line representing the horizon and in particular no light in the part of this line which adjoins the center of the marker. This beam is formed by turning on the source 10 only, the other LEDs of the device being off. The supply voltage of this source is then given its highest value.
  • the device is arranged so that the beam 26 of the base module and that of the complementary module 40 complement each other to form a cut-off beam.
  • This is, for example, a dipped beam, a main beam or a foglamp beam.
  • one or more complementary modules 40 complete the beam 26 in the upper right part of the screen.
  • one or more complementary modules 40 complete the beam 26 in the upper left and right parts of the screen.
  • the fog lamp beam is produced in a similar way.
  • the other beam 28 is in this case a beam which does not present a cut.
  • This is a daytime running type beam. It is produced by simultaneously lighting up all the leds of the base module. It is observed that the beam extends both below the horizontal axis representing the horizon line and above it, unlike the beam 26. The supply voltage of the source 10 is then given its lowest value among the two aforementioned non-zero values.
  • This beam 28 is produced by means of the basic module alone, without using the complementary module 40 which is switched off.
  • the device according to the invention makes it possible to give the central LED 10 an efficiency comprised for example between 60 and 70%, which is relatively high. It also makes it possible to ensure that the base module has substantially the same appearance for the observer, whether it produces a cut-off beam or a daytime lighting type beam.
  • a second embodiment of the device is illustrated in figures 7 to 10 .
  • the device comprises not one but two lenses 4 distinct from each other but formed in one piece with each other in the present example.
  • the device also comprises a group of LEDs associated specifically with one lenses 4 and another group of LEDs specifically associated with the other lens 4.
  • This time it therefore comprises two basic modules, each module comprising one of the lenses and one of the groups of LEDs.
  • Each base module is otherwise configured in the same way as the base module of the device of the figures 1 to 4 . In particular, it includes the same number of LEDs as the module of the first embodiment, although this is not an obligation.
  • These two basic modules, and in particular the two lenses, are arranged so as to produce on their own respective beams 30 and 32 which may be different from each other and are illustrated in figures 8 and 9 .
  • the difference between the beams can be obtained in particular by giving the two lenses different focal lengths from each other.
  • these two beams are obtained by switching on only the central diode 10 in each base module. These are two flat or low type beams.
  • the device again comprises one or more complementary modules 40 supplying one or more beams forming, in combination with the beams 30 and 32, a cut-off beam such as a dipped beam, a main beam or a fog lamp beam as is the case here.
  • This regulatory beam is therefore formed in particular by the addition of beams 30 and 32.
  • the device is also arranged so that the two base modules used in combination and without the complementary module(s) 40 produce a beam 34 illustrated in figure 10 .
  • This is an uninterrupted beam which is in this case a beam of the daytime lighting type. This time, all the LEDs of each of the base modules are lit, the LEDs 10 being supplied with the lowest voltage among the two possible ones.
  • the add-on(s) are turned off.
  • the entrance face of the lens when it is a question of producing a daytime lighting beam, the entrance face of the lens will be given a sufficient surface, for example approximately 24 cm 2 , to obtain the regulatory photometry of this type of beam.
  • the two lenses can be produced in the form of separate parts.
  • the invention can be implemented to obtain a signaling device such as a direction indicator.
  • the device forms a signaling device and/or a device lighting, it can have one or more other lighting and/or signaling functions than those implemented with the invention, these functions being performed by one or more modules independent of the aforementioned modules.
  • control means capable of controlling the lighting of a group of LEDs independently of the other group of LEDs or of one of the other groups of LEDs. It is also possible to provide individual control means for each LED.
