Definitions
- the present invention relates to a connector, to a wire cover therefor and to an assembling method for a connector.
- a conventional connector is disclosed in Japanese Unexamined Patent Publication No. 2005-149941 .
- This connector includes a plurality of terminal fittings connected to end portions of wires, a housing in which the respective terminal fittings are accommodated and a wire cover to be attached to a rear end part of the housing.
- the respective wires are drawn out from the rear surface of the housing and accommodated into the wire cover.
- the wire cover includes a first part extending backward from the rear surface of the housing while being narrowed and a second part extending substantially straight backward from the rear end of the first part.
- each wire drawn out from the rear surface of the housing is bent at a specified angle with respect to the rear surface of the housing so as to extend along the inner wall of the first part.
- each wire since a means for restricting a bending movement of each wire at an inner side is not particularly provided, each wire may be bent at an angle larger than the specified angle and a large load may be applied to the bent part.
- the rubber plug is also largely resiliently deformed in a bending direction and a state of close contact with the wire cannot be sufficiently maintained, wherefore sealability may be reduced.
- the present invention was completed in view of the above situation and an object thereof is to prevent wires drawn out from a housing from being bent at angles larger than specified angles.
- a connector comprising: a plurality of terminal fittings to be connected to end portions of wires; a housing in which the respective terminal fittings are at least partly accommodated and a plurality of wires are drawn out from the rear a wire draw-out surface thereof; a wire cover including a first part which is to be attached to the housing, extends away backward from a rear side of the housing while being narrowed and in which the respective wires at least partly are to be accommodated while at least partly being bent with respect to the rear side draw-out side of the housing, and a second part which extends away backward from the distal rear end of the first part and in which the respective wires at least partly are to be accommodated; and at least one banding band to be mounted on the second part for banding and fixing the respective wires accommodated in the second part.
- a bent angle of each wire in the first part is determined to be a specified angle.
- a situation where each wire is bent at an angle larger than the specified angle is prevented.
- a connector comprising a plurality of terminal fittings to be connected to end portions of wires; a housing in which the respective terminal fittings are accommodated and a plurality of wires are drawn out from the rear surface thereof; a wire cover including a first part which is attached to the housing, extends backward from a rear side of the housing while being narrowed and in which the respective wires are accommodated while being bent with respect to the rear side of the housing, and a second part which extends backward from the rear end of the first part and in which the respective wires are accommodated; and a banding band to be mounted on the second part for banding and fixing the respective wires accommodated in the second part.
- a rubber plug is mounted on a front end part of each wire and at least partly accommodated in the housing.
- the rubber plug Since the rubber plug is mounted on the front end part of each wire and at least partly accommodated in the housing, the rubber plug may be resiliently bent in a bending direction and predetermined sealability may not be able to be maintained if the rubber plug is bent at an angle larger than the specified angle in the first part. However, since the bent angle of each wire is determined to be the specified angle by the banding band according to the present invention, the rubber plug is not excessively resiliently deformed and predetermined sealability can be maintained.
- At least one insertion hole and/or at least one cut through which the banding band is inserted is formed in the second part.
- the banding band is (to be) mounted on a front end part of the second part.
- the bent angle of each wire is reliably determined to be the specified angle in the first part from the rear surface of the housing to the second part.
- At least one positioning portion for restricting a displacement of a mounted position of the banding band in forward and backward directions is formed the second part, particularly on the outer surface of the second part.
- the positioning portion for restricting a displacement of the mounted position of the banding band in forward and backward directions is formed on (particularly the outer surface of) the second part, a displacement of the banded position is reliably prevented.
- a pair of positioning walls parallel to each other and extending in a width direction project on the second part, particularly on the outer surface of the second part; both front and rear ends of the positioning portion are defined by the both positioning walls; the banding band is formed with a bulging fixing portion for holding a banded state; and the fixing portion is arranged to come into contact with the both positioning walls in a winding direction of the banding band.
- the fixing portion Since the banding band is formed with the bulging fixing portion for holding the banded state and the fixing portion is arranged to come into contact with the both positioning walls in the winding direction of the banding band, the fixing portion is substantially positioned in the winding direction of the banding band.
- a wire cover for a connector in particular according to the above aspect of the invention or a particular embodiment thereof, comprising a plurality of terminal fittings to be connected to end portions of wires and a housing in which the respective terminal fittings are at least partly accommodated and a plurality of wires are drawn out from a wire draw-out surface thereof
- the wire cover including: a first part which is to be attached to the housing such that it extends away from the housing while being narrowed and in which the respective wires at least partly are to be accommodated while at least partly being bent with respect to the draw-out side of the housing, and a second part which extends away from the distal end of the first part and in which the respective wires at least partly are to be accommodated; and a banding band to be mounted on the second part for banding and fixing the respective wires accommodated in the second part.
- At least one insertion hole and/or at least one cut through which the banding band is inserted is formed in the second part.
- the banding band is to be mounted on a front end part of the second part.
- At least one positioning portion for restricting a displacement of a mounted position of the banding band in forward and backward directions is formed on the second part.
- the positioning portion is formed on the outer surface of the second part.
- a pair of positioning walls parallel to each other and extending in a width direction project on the second part, preferably on the outer surface thereof; both front and rear ends of the positioning portion are defined by the both positioning walls; the banding band is formed with a bulging fixing portion for holding a banded state; and the fixing portion is arranged to come into contact with the both positioning walls in a winding direction of the banding band.

- the rubber plugs 200 excessively resiliently deformed in bending directions of the respective wires 100.
- the tape 400 is wound around the corrugated tube 50 and the second part 62 at an appropriate timing, whereby the corrugated tube 50 is fixed to the second part 62.
- the band main body 91 is to be at least partly inserted while being positioned in forward and backward directions by the positioning portion 75 of the second part 62 in a banded state.
- the fixing portion 92 substantially is arranged to be able to come into contact with the both positioning walls 74 in the width direction (winding direction of the banding band 90) from a facing position on the outer surface of the second part 62.
- a moving range of the fixing portion 92 is limited to a range between the other insertion hole 73 and the both positioning walls 74 and an excessive movement of the fixing portion 92 in the winding direction of the banding band 90 is avoided.
- the bent angles thereof in the first part 61 are determined to be the specified (predetermined or predeterminable) angles.
- the rubber plug 200 is mounted on the front end part of each wire 100 and accommodated in the housing 30, the rubber plug 200 is not excessively resiliently deformed and predetermined sealability can be maintained since the bent angle of each wire 100 is determined to be the specified (predetermined or predeterminable) angle by the banding band 90.
- the insertion holes 73 through which the banding band 90 particularly are passed are formed to penetrate through the second part 62, a displacement of the banded position is prevented. Further, since the banding band 90 particularly is mounted on the front end part of the second part 62, the bent angle of each wire 100 is reliably determined to be the specified angle in the first part 61 from the rear surface of the housing 30 to the second part 62. In addition, since the positioning portion 75 for restricting a displacement of the mounted position of the banding band 90 in forward and backward directions particularly is formed on the outer surface of the second part 62, a displacement of the banded position is more reliably prevented.
- the banding band 90 is formed with the bulging fixing portion 92 for holding the banded state and the fixing portion 92 particularly is arranged to be able to come into contact with the both positioning walls 74 in the winding direction of the banding band 90, any further movement of the banding band 90 in the winding direction is hindered by the contact of the fixing portion 92 with the both positioning walls 74. Therefore, the banding band 90 is substantially positioned in the winding direction with respect to the second part 62 and banding reliability is further enhanced.
- a wire cover 60 includes a first part 61 which is to be attached to a housing 30, substantially extends backward from a wire draw-out surface (particularly a rear side) of the housing 30 while being narrowed and in which respective wires 100 are accommodated while being bent with respect to the rear side of the housing 30, and a second part 62 which extends away from the housing 30 (particularly substantially backward) from the rear end of the first part 61 and in which the respective wires 100 are at least partly accommodated while extending substantially straight.
- At least one banding band 90 for banding and fixing the respective wires 100 at least partly accommodated in the second part 62 is mounted on the second part 62.
