Definitions
- the present invention relates to metal lids for containers, in particular metal containers of the type can. It relates more particularly to one-piece covers comprising (i) a peripheral portion for its assembly on the container body and (ii) a central shutter panel portion comprising a removable portion by tearing a breaking initiation line.
- Some metal containers mainly cans for food packaging, are often equipped with a lid with an "easy" opening system, avoiding the use of a can opener.
- a particularly interesting solution consists of a one-piece metal cover having a peripheral portion associated with a central panel provided with a portion or removable portion.
- this removable portion is, on the one hand, delimited by a peripheral rupture initiation line, and on the other hand, equipped with a gripping and traction member, commonly called "opening ring”.
- This gripping member conventionally comprises two parts or zones extending along its longitudinal axis: a peripheral part comprising a "nose” fixed to the removable portion of the central panel, close to the breaking initiation line, and a loop-shaped inner part which, before its traction operation for the opening, is pressed against the upper surface of this removable portion.
- the user grasps the gripping member, generally by its free inner area, and then away from the central panel.
- the gripping member then forms a lever, the beak-shaped peripheral end of which causes a local break of the breaking initiation line over a small part of its length, called the "initial rupture zone".
- the removable portion of the panel is then folded locally inward, along a fold line oriented perpendicularly, or approximately perpendicularly, with respect to the longitudinal axis of the gripping member.
- the user exerts traction on the gripping member, so as to continue tearing the tear initiation line and dissociate the removable portion relative to the lid.
- the gripping member therefore allows the transmission of the force applied by the user, and the energy generated, to the removable portion of the central panel, so as to ensure the tearing of the metal along the peripheral rupture initiation line.
- the ease of opening is defined by the level of force and energy required to break this breakaway line.
- This phenomenon can come from a poor efficiency in the transmission of the force and traction energy exerted by the user.
- lids comprising a general parallelogram-shaped rupture initiation line (square or rectangular shape with rounded corners, viewed from above), consisting of rectilinear sections marrying the peripheral assembly part to ensure optimum and maximum opening of the lid.
- US-2006/0042982 discloses a container equipped with a metal lid provided with a breaking initiation line consisting of four rectilinear sections arranged lozenge. One of the angles of this breaking initiation line is equipped with the opening ring.
- Such a container has the advantage of offering some reduction in the effort to open, but no longer allows optimal access to the packaged product.
- the first straight transverse section of the rupture initiation line makes it necessary to make a choice between (i) a reduction in the effort at opening but a reduced access to the packaged product. and (ii) optimal access to the packaged product but increased opening effort.
- lids of this type to reduce the level of force and energy required for opening (good feeling of opening), while maintaining a maximum opening percentage to maintain easy access to the packaged product.
- EP 0 061 980 A1 discloses a container equipped with a metal lid according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the present invention therefore aims to meet this need.
- the object concerned by the invention is a metal cover according to claim 1.
- the downstream portion of the first transverse section of the breaking initiation line comprises, on the side of the upstream portion, a portion of length, advantageously in the general shape of a circular arc, whose angle ⁇ exterior evolves, preferably progressively or at least approximately gradually, from an initial value between 46 ° and 49 °, to a final value of the order of 67 ° to 68 °.
- the downstream portion of the first transverse section of the breaking initiation line is of generally curved shape; in this case, this downstream portion is advantageously constituted by a succession of radii and / or straight segments.
- the peripheral portion of the lid is also in the general shape of a parallelogram, composed of two longitudinal edges and two transverse edges; and the rupture initiation line extends along said lid peripheral portion.
- the present invention further relates to a container, in particular of the kind metal tin can, equipped with a metal lid as detailed above.
- the lid 1, as shown on the figure 1 is intended to be assembled with the upper edge of a metal container body (not shown) of generally parallelepipedal shape with rounded corners.
- This lid 1, and the associated metal container body are intended to form a tin generally in parallelepiped shape, often referred to as "club box”.
- the container body 1 usually consists of a side wall belt (generally square or rectangular section) whose bottom edge is extended by a bottom member.
- connection between this lid 1 and the container body is performed by an assembly technique chosen by those skilled in the art, for example by a crimping technique.
- the lid 1 according to the invention consists of a one-piece metal part, advantageously manufactured by a stamping technique from a sheet of metal material of the aluminum, steel, etc. type.
- This lid 1 has, seen from above, a general shape of parallelogram, in this case a generally rectangular shape with rounded corners.
- the peripheral ring 2 of generally rectangular shape, comprises two longitudinal edges 2 to 1 and 2 to 2 opposite, connected by two transverse edges 2 b 1 and 2 b 2 opposite.
- This ring 2 advantageously comprises a molding allowing its assembly by crimping on the container body.
- the central closure panel 3 is also of generally rectangular overall shape with a longitudinal axis of symmetry 3 ', oriented parallel to the longitudinal edges 2a of the peripheral ring 2.
- This shutter panel 3 is provided with a breaking initiation line 4, also called “incision line”, which delimits a central portion 5 equipped with a gripping member 7.
- this central portion 5 then constitutes a removable portion or portion, by breaking the breaking initiation line 4.
- the breaking initiation line 4 (hereinafter referred to as "incision line” for the sake of simplification) is also of generally rectangular overall shape, seen from above.
- This incision line 4 is made by a thinning of the material, obtained by the implementation of a suitable tool during the manufacture of the lid.
- the incision line 4 is here closed, or in other words complete, that is to say that it extends all around the removable part 5; alternatively, it could be only partial.
- This line of incision 4 extends in this case along and near the peripheral ring 2; it comprises in this case two longitudinal sections 4 to 1 and 4 to 2 opposite (arranged along the longitudinal edges 2 to 1 and 2 to 2 of the ring 2), connected at their ends by two transverse sections 4 b 1 and 4 b 2 (on the side of the two transverse edges 2 b 1 and 2 b 2 of the ring 2).
- the two longitudinal sections 4 to 1 and 4 to 2 facing here are rectilinear.
- the two transverse sections 4 b 1 and 4 b 2 opposite have each in turn a generally curved shape to improve the level of force and energy required for opening the lid, as developed below.
- the removable portion 5 is equipped, at its upper surface, the gripping member 7 whose manipulation by the user will allow easy opening of the lid 1 (that is to say, a separation, total or partial of the removable portion 5 relative to the remainder of the cover 1 by tearing the incision line 4).
- this manipulation of the gripping member 7 conventionally comprises two steps: a first step of initiating tearing of the incision line 4, by manual pivoting / tilting of the gripping member 7, and a step of continuing the tearing of the rupture line 4, by manual pulling on this member 7.
- the gripping member 7 is known to those skilled in the art under the name of "opening ring”.
- the opening ring 7 is shown schematically here. It is set here at a junction angle 4c of the incision line 4 formed by the junction between a first transverse section 4 b 1 and a first longitudinal member 4 has two of said break line 4.
- This junction angle c 4 will form a break zone or initial tearing of the incision line 4 appearing during initial pivoting of the opening ring 7.
- upstream portions 4 b 11 and 4 to 21, on the one hand, and downstream b 4 12 and 4 22, on the other hand, are here separated by a line designated by the marker 8 on the figure 1 .
- this separation line 8 extends perpendicular to the longitudinal axis 7 'of the gripping member 7, and corresponds at least approximately to the fold line of the removable portion 5 following the initial pivoting of this gripping member 7.
- the downstream portion 4b 12 of the first transverse portion 4b 1 of the incision line 4 is shaped so that, along its length, its tangents 9 (only one of these tangents is drawn on the figure 1 by way of illustration) define an outside angle ⁇ greater than 45 °, with the line 8 perpendicular to the longitudinal axis 7 'of the gripping member 7.
- exital angle ⁇ we mean more precisely the hour angle defined on the figure 1 between, on one hand, the tangent 9 to the downstream portion 4b 12 of the first transverse portion 4b 1 of the incision line 4 and, secondly, the segment 8 to the perpendicular line 8, located the outside of the removable portion 5.
- downstream portion 4b of the first transverse portion 12 4 b 1 is arranged again so that the outside angle ⁇ increases starting from the upstream portion 4 b 11 of said first transverse portion 4 b 1 and that the head of said second longitudinal section 4 to 1 associated.
- the outside angle ⁇ is advantageously between 46 ° and 90 °.
- the downstream portion 4b of the first transverse portion 12 4 b 1 is advantageously curved.
- the radius of the first part is significantly greater than the radius of the second part.
- This downstream portion 4b of the first transverse portion 12 4 b 1 thus advantageously an inner convex curvature (curvature continuously oriented inward).
- the first part in an elliptical arc, corresponds to approximately between 2/3 and 3/4 of the length of the first transverse section 4 b 1.
- the second part in an arc, constitutes the remaining length of said first transverse section 4 b 1, ie between 1/3 and 1/4 of the length of said first transverse section 4 b 1.
- the downstream portion 12 of the first 4 b 1 b 4 transverse section is composed of a plurality of spokes.
- this downstream portion 4 b 12 comprises here radii between 15 and 100 mm.
- the upper portion 4 b 11 of said first transverse portion 4b 1 already forms an angle ⁇ at its end facing the downstream portion 4b next 12.
- the angle defined by the tangent 9 to the downstream portion 4b of the first transverse portion 12 4 b 1 and the longitudinal axis 7 'of the gripper 7, has a value that remains below 45 ° (This angle is anti-clockwise on figures 1 and 2 ).
- this angle ⁇ is illustrated by the successive angles ⁇ 1 to ⁇ 10 on the figure 2 spaced two by two by 3 mm, and respectively have the following values of the order of 1.5 °, 3 °, 6 °, 9 °, 11 °, 14 °, 16 °, 22 °, 31 ° and 42 ° °.
- This angle ⁇ thus progresses to a value of the order of 90 ° at the second longitudinal section 4 to 1.
- downstream portion 4b 12 could be constituted by a succession of straight segments or a combination of curved and straight lines segments.
- these segments each have a length of the order of 5 mm.
- first transverse portion 4b 1 of the incision line 4 is formed close to the connection ring 2 so that the distance d between said first transverse portion 4b 1 and the transverse edge facing 2 b 1 of this ring 2 is between 1 and 15 mm, and more preferably between 1 and 10 mm.
- the "distance d" corresponds to the length of the line segment on the one hand, extending perpendicularly to the tangent 9 of the downstream portion 4b of the first transverse portion 12 b 1 and 4, on the other hand , defined by said downstream portion 4 b 12 and the transverse edge facing 2 1 b of the ring 2.
- the distance gradually increases along the downstream portion 4b of the first transverse portion 12 4 b 1, from a distance of the order of 0.6 to 2 mm, up to a maximum distance from the order of 15 mm, preferably between 5 and 10 mm.
- This distance d makes it possible to maintain a maximum opening of the lid 1, and to limit the distance of the strip of residual material after detachment of the removable part 5. This gives an optimal compromise between the return of the product and the ease of opening.
- downstream portion 4 to 22 of the first longitudinal section 4 to 2 here defines an external angle ⁇ of the order of 45 ° with the aforementioned line 8 perpendicular to the longitudinal axis 7 'of the grasping member 7.
- exital angle ⁇ is meant more precisely the anti-clockwise angle defined on the figure 1 between, on the one hand, the downstream portion 4 to 22 of the first longitudinal section 4 to 2 of the incision line 4 and, on the other hand, the segment 8b of the separation line 8, located on the outside of the incision line 4.
- the second transverse section 4 b 2 is also generally curved, here in the general shape of a circular arc.
- this second transverse section 4 b 2 could consist of a succession of rays or a plurality of straight segments.
- this second transverse portion 4 b 2 is provided near the second transverse edge 2 b 2 facing the ring 2, so that the distance e between the two sections 4 b 2 and 2 b 2 is advantageously between 1 and 15 mm, and preferably between 1 and 10 mm.
- this particular distance makes it possible to limit the bulk of the material strip of the remaining central panel 3 after the removal of the removable portion 5 of the cover 1.
- the opening ring 7 allows the user to exert traction on the detachable portion 5, so as to break the incision line 4 from the initial fracture zone 4 c (adjoining the organ gripping 7) to a distal region or downstream at the opposite of said opening ring 7.
- This distal zone corresponds here to the second transverse portion 4B 2 of the incision line 4.
- the maneuvering of the ring 7 is implemented in two distinct times, to ensure the opening of the lid 1.
- the user grasps the free portion 7b of the gripping member 7, so as to move away from the detachable portion 5.
- the gripping member then forms a lever, rotated by the user; this causes, on one hand, a local breakage of the incision line 4 at its initial breaking zone 4c and, secondly, the local folding inwardly a portion of the detachable panel 5 along the line of separation 8 (which extends perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis 7 'of the gripping member 7).
- the upstream portion 4 b 11 of the first transverse portion 4b 1 and the upstream portion 4 to 21 of the first longitudinal member 4 2 of the incision line 4 are torn.
- the separation of the detachable portion 5 continues with a second step in which the user exerts a pull on the gripping member 7, so as to continue the tearing of the incision line 4.
- the opening ring 7 progresses at least approximately along the length and facing a general traction line.
- This pulling line is illustrated on the figure 1 by a broken line 11 corresponding to its projection on the central panel 3; this pulling line 11 extends between the initial fracture zone 4c and the second transverse portion 4B 2 of the incision line 4.
- the traction is initiated by the operator in a direction oriented along the longitudinal axis 7 'of the gripping member 7, corresponding to the proximal portion 11a of the traction line 11 .
- the efficiency of the force and traction energy applied by the user, to initiate the tearing of the incision line 4 during this traction step, is significantly improved compared with conventional lids, thanks to the particular conformation of the downstream portion 4b 12 of the first transverse portion 4b 1.
- the traction on the gripping member 7 is continued in a conventional manner along a distal portion 11b of the traction line 11, so as to tear the incision line 4 towards the second section transversal 4 b 2.
- the final tear of the second transverse section 4 b 2 of the incision line 4 will be facilitated by its particular curved shape, which also aims to optimize the efficiency of the force and the traction energy.
- This particular structure makes it possible to limit the spring effect phenomenon often observed on the detached portion 5.
- the assembly ring 2 of the lid 1 could have any other shape, seen from above, adapted to the section of the receiving body (for example oval, circular or polygonal).
- the lid according to the invention has the advantage of having a good opening feeling and an improved recovery value, while maintaining a maximum opening area.
Description
The present invention relates to metal lids for containers, in particular metal containers of the type can. It relates more particularly to one-piece covers comprising (i) a peripheral portion for its assembly on the container body and (ii) a central shutter panel portion comprising a removable portion by tearing a breaking initiation line.
Some metal containers, mainly cans for food packaging, are often equipped with a lid with an "easy" opening system, avoiding the use of a can opener.
A particularly interesting solution consists of a one-piece metal cover having a peripheral portion associated with a central panel provided with a portion or removable portion. For this, this removable portion is, on the one hand, delimited by a peripheral rupture initiation line, and on the other hand, equipped with a gripping and traction member, commonly called "opening ring".
This gripping member conventionally comprises two parts or zones extending along its longitudinal axis: a peripheral part comprising a "nose" fixed to the removable portion of the central panel, close to the breaking initiation line, and a loop-shaped inner part which, before its traction operation for the opening, is pressed against the upper surface of this removable portion.
In general, to open such a lid, the user is made to maneuver the gripping member in two successive and distinct operations.
First, in a first step of initiating the opening, the user grasps the gripping member, generally by its free inner area, and then away from the central panel.
The gripping member then forms a lever, the beak-shaped peripheral end of which causes a local break of the breaking initiation line over a small part of its length, called the "initial rupture zone". The removable portion of the panel is then folded locally inward, along a fold line oriented perpendicularly, or approximately perpendicularly, with respect to the longitudinal axis of the gripping member.
In a second step of the opening, the user exerts traction on the gripping member, so as to continue tearing the tear initiation line and dissociate the removable portion relative to the lid.
The gripping member therefore allows the transmission of the force applied by the user, and the energy generated, to the removable portion of the central panel, so as to ensure the tearing of the metal along the peripheral rupture initiation line.
The ease of opening is defined by the level of force and energy required to break this breakaway line.
And it is well known that a reduced level of force and energy at the opening is an important element for users handling such a can.
However, still to date, some lids, equipped with a gripping member and traction require a relatively high level of force and energy to ensure their opening.
This phenomenon can come from a poor efficiency in the transmission of the force and traction energy exerted by the user.
This is particularly the case of the lids comprising a general parallelogram-shaped rupture initiation line (square or rectangular shape with rounded corners, viewed from above), consisting of rectilinear sections marrying the peripheral assembly part to ensure optimum and maximum opening of the lid.
It turns out that such a breaking line normally requires a relatively high level of force and energy, especially at the initiation of the tensile tearing step.
Such a container has the advantage of offering some reduction in the effort to open, but no longer allows optimal access to the packaged product.
Thus, in the containers of the prior art, the first straight transverse section of the rupture initiation line makes it necessary to make a choice between (i) a reduction in the effort at opening but a reduced access to the packaged product. and (ii) optimal access to the packaged product but increased opening effort.
There is thus a need, for lids of this type, to reduce the level of force and energy required for opening (good feeling of opening), while maintaining a maximum opening percentage to maintain easy access to the packaged product.
The present invention therefore aims to meet this need.
Ainsi, l'objet concerné par l'invention est un couvercle métallique selon la revendication 1.Thus, the object concerned by the invention is a metal cover according to
The applicant demonstrates that this conformation of the line of initiation of rupture brings a significant reduction of the level of force and energy necessary for the opening, by a better efficiency of transmission of effort and energy on the line of fracture initiation (especially at the beginning of the second step of opening by traction on the ring), while allowing to preserve a wide access to the packaged product (without areas difficult to access and / or hidden under the remaining material of the lid after opening).
According to a particular embodiment, the downstream portion of the first transverse section of the breaking initiation line comprises, on the side of the upstream portion, a portion of length, advantageously in the general shape of a circular arc, whose angle α exterior evolves, preferably progressively or at least approximately gradually, from an initial value between 46 ° and 49 °, to a final value of the order of 67 ° to 68 °.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the downstream portion of the first transverse section of the breaking initiation line is of generally curved shape; in this case, this downstream portion is advantageously constituted by a succession of radii and / or straight segments.
According to a particular embodiment, the peripheral portion of the lid is also in the general shape of a parallelogram, composed of two longitudinal edges and two transverse edges; and the rupture initiation line extends along said lid peripheral portion.
Dans ce cadre :
- le premier tronçon transversal de la ligne d'amorce de rupture est avantageusement agencé à proximité d'une première bordure transversale de la partie périphérique de couvercle, de telle sorte que la distance entre ledit premier tronçon transversal de la ligne d'amorce de rupture et ladite première bordure transversale de la partie périphérique est comprise entre 1 et 15 mm, et de préférence entre 1 et 10 mm ;
- the first transverse section of the breaking initiation line is advantageously arranged close to a first transversal edge of the peripheral portion of the cover, such that the distance between said first transverse section of the rupture initiation line and said first transverse edge of the peripheral portion is between 1 and 15 mm, and preferably between 1 and 10 mm;
- the second transverse section of the breaking initiation line is advantageously of curved shape, adapted to also reduce the level of force and energy required for the final separation between the detachable portion and the remainder of the metal cover, so in particular to reduce the phenomenon of spring effect; in this case, this second transverse section of the breaking initiation line is advantageously constituted by a line in the form of an arc of a circle, a plurality of radii or a succession of line segments or a combination of such elements; again in this case, the second transverse section of the breaking initiation line is advantageously arranged near a second transversal edge of the peripheral part of the lid, so that the distance between said second transverse section of the line of the rupture primer and said second transverse edge facing the peripheral portion is between 1 and 15 mm, and preferably between 1 and 10 mm.

This
The
The connection between this
The
This
- (i) a
peripheral portion 2, forming an assembly ring for attachment to the body of a container, and - (ii) a
central portion 3, surrounded by theperipheral portion 2 and forming a central shutter panel.
The
This
The breaking initiation line 4 (hereinafter referred to as "incision line" for the sake of simplification) is also of generally rectangular overall shape, seen from above.
This
The
The two
As detailed below, this manipulation of the gripping
portion amovible 5.
- (i) a
peripheral portion 7a having a spout (not visible) attached to theremovable portion 5, close to theincision line 4, and - (ii) an
inner portion 7b in the form of a gripping loop, which is originally pressed against the upper surface of theremovable portion 5.
- (i) an upstream portion 4 b 11 and 4 to 21, intended to be torn by the initial operation of pivoting of the gripper 7 (these two
portions 4 and 4 b 11 21 then together define the break zone initial 4c of the incision line 4), and - (ii) a
downstream portion b 4 12 and 4 22, in the extension of theinitial breaking zone 4c constituting the remaining length b of the twosections 4 1 and 4 2 corresponding intended to be torn by the step traction on the grippingmember 7.
As developed subsequently, this
In this case, the downstream portion 4b of the first transverse portion 12 4
De préférence encore, l'angle extérieur α est avantageusement compris entre 46° et 90°.More preferably, the outside angle α is advantageously between 46 ° and 90 °.
The downstream portion 4b of the first transverse portion 12 4
- a first portion in the general shape of arc of an ellipse or arc, the side of the upstream portion 4
b 11, whose exterior angle α is gradually changing, or at least quasi-gradually from an initial value between 46 ° and 49 °, to a final value of the order of 67 ° to 68 °, and - a second part generally in the shape of a circular arc, for connection with the second
longitudinal section 4 to 1.
The radius of the first part is significantly greater than the radius of the second part.
This downstream portion 4b of the first transverse portion 12 4
La seconde partie, en arc de cercle, constitue la longueur restante dudit premier tronçon transversal 4b1, soit environ entre 1/3 et 1/4 de la longueur dudit premier tronçon transversal 4b1.In this case, the first part, in an elliptical arc, corresponds to approximately between 2/3 and 3/4 of the length of the first transverse section 4
The second part, in an arc, constitutes the remaining length of said first transverse section 4
More preferably, the downstream portion 12 of the first 4 b 1
For example, this downstream portion 4 b 12 comprises here radii between 15 and 100 mm.
The upper portion 4
Par exemple, ces segments ont chacun une longueur de l'ordre de 5 mm.Alternatively, the downstream portion 4b 12 could be constituted by a succession of straight segments or a combination of curved and straight lines segments.
For example, these segments each have a length of the order of 5 mm.
In this case, the distance gradually increases along the downstream portion 4b of the first transverse portion 12 4
This distance d makes it possible to maintain a maximum opening of the
This gives an optimal compromise between the return of the product and the ease of opening.
On the other hand, the
The upstream portions 4 b 11 and 4 to 21, constituting the
Furthermore, the second transverse section 4
Alternatively, this second transverse section 4
Here again, this particular distance makes it possible to limit the bulk of the material strip of the remaining
In a conventional manner, the maneuvering of the
In the first step of initiation of rupture, the user grasps the
The gripping member then forms a lever, rotated by the user; this causes, on one hand, a local breakage of the
During this first stage, the upstream portion 4
This pulling line is illustrated on the
- a
proximal portion 11 has on the side of theinitial rupture zone 4c of the line ofincision primer 4, and oriented coaxially or at least substantially coaxially to the longitudinal axis 7 'of thegripper 7, and - a
distal portion 11 b located towards the distal region 4b 2 of the line ofincision primer 4, and oriented coaxially or at least substantially coaxially with thecentral axis 3 'of thecentral panel 3.
During this second tearing step, the traction is initiated by the operator in a direction oriented along the longitudinal axis 7 'of the gripping
The efficiency of the force and traction energy applied by the user, to initiate the tearing of the
Cette structure particulière permet de limiter le phénomène d'effet ressort souvent observé sur la portion détachée 5.Still during this second step, the traction on the gripping
The final tear of the second transverse section 4
This particular structure makes it possible to limit the spring effect phenomenon often observed on the
In general, the
The lid according to the invention has the advantage of having a good opening feeling and an improved recovery value, while maintaining a maximum opening area.
