Abstract

Bei einem Verfahren zum Betreiben eines Verbrennungsmotors für Kraftfahrzeuge mit Kraftstoff und einem der Verbrennungsluft im Ansaugtrakt des Motors zugeführten, im Fahrzeug durch Elektrolyse von Wasser hergestellten Wasserstoff-Sauerstoff-Gemisch wird das Wasserstoff-Sauerstoff-Gemisch im normalen Motorbetrieb bis zum Erreichen eines vorgegebenen Speicherdrucks erzeugt und zwischengespeichert und nur bei hoher Motorleistung, das heißt während des Anfahrens und Beschleunigens des Fahrzeugs und beim Unterschreiten eines bestimmten, im Ansaugtrakt herrschenden Unterdrucks der Ansaugluft zugeführt. Die Anordnung zur Durchführung des Verfahrens umfasst einen an eine Stromquelle (17), einen Wassertank (25) und eine Kühlvorrichtung (18-20) angeschlossenen Elektrolyseur (1), wobei in die Gasleitung (30) zwischen dem Elektrolyseur (1) und dem Ansaugtrakt (35) des Motors ein Gasspeicher (32) und ein Ventil (33) eingebunden sind. An den Gasspeicher (32) ist ein Druckmessgerät (37) und an den Ansaugtrakt (35) ist ein Unterdruckmessgerät (38) angeschlossen, die in ein zum Zu- oder Abschalten der Stromquelle und zum Öffnen oder Schließen des Ventils (33) vorgesehenes Steuergerät (36) integriert sind.
