Definitions
- the present invention relates to a face mask comprising a filter material having at least one intermediate layer between the inner layer and the outer layer.
- the intermediate layer of electrostatically charged staple fibers and / or electrostatically charged filaments and / or formed from fiber networks, wherein on the fibers of the intermediate layer superficially a powdered absorbent material is applied.
- Respiratory masks with a multilayer construction of nonwovens are known.
- WO 2010/023370 a multilayer composite consisting of an outer layer of spunbonded fabric, a first felt-like intermediate layer of a triboelectrically charged fiber mixture, a second intermediate layer of electrostatically charged Melt-blown and an inner layer of spunbonded non-woven.
- the US 2008/0110469 discloses a multilayer face mask wherein the layers of the filter material may consist of triboelectric fiber blends.
- an intermediate layer of flexible activated carbon can be provided, which is laminated between two layers of fiber material.
- a thin intermediate layer of "carbon-impregnated non-woven fiber" is provided.
- the filtering layer may contain activated carbon or may be electrostatically charged.
- the layers should be connected to each other at the outer edge of the mask.
- the filtering layer may consist of meltblown or of electrostatically charged split fibers (Electrically charged fibrillated film fibers) or of glass fibers or fibers produced by electrospinning. It is described as advantageous to introduce absorbent particles, in particular activated carbon, in the filter layer.
- the US 6,070,578 describes a facial mask for hunters in which the exhaled air is to be freed of odorants.
- a fabric of activated carbon fibers (95-115 g / m 2 ) is arranged between two layers of a scrim.
- the US 5,269,294 discloses an odor-reducing face mask in which a layer of a porous material is impregnated with an odor-absorbing agent.
- the agent is a modified zeolite based molecular sieve.
- the DE 101 52 785 A1 claims a face mask having an air-impermeable sheath and at least one filter layer disposed in the sheath and containing activated charcoal.
- Activated carbon fibers are very powerful but also very expensive. Accordingly, woven carbon fiber fabrics are also very expensive and, because they are not weldable, make it difficult to inexpensively and simply package face masks.
- the activated carbon particles are bonded together or with a porous support material. In doing so, the active area and thus the efficiency is lost. The lack of weldability of the activated carbon particles complicates the packaging as well as the activated carbon fibers.
- a face mask which comprises a filter material comprising at least one face-facing layer and at least one outer layer, wherein at least the at least one interlayer contains or consists of electrostatically charged staple fibers and / or electrostatically charged filaments and / or fiber networks , wherein on the fibers of the intermediate layer superficially a powdered absorbent material is applied.
- the invention is therefore characterized in particular by the fact that the intermediate layer consists of fibers or that it contains fibers in which a pulverulent absorption material is applied to electrostatically charged staple fibers and / or electrostatically charged filaments and / or fiber networks.
- the intermediate layer consists of fibers or that it contains fibers in which a pulverulent absorption material is applied to electrostatically charged staple fibers and / or electrostatically charged filaments and / or fiber networks.
- Such charge stabilizing additives which are usually the educts for the production the fibers are used, for example polypropylene, are known to those skilled in the art.
- Preferred additives which act to stabilize charge are metal stearates, such as magnesium stearate.
- the staple fibers and / or filaments may also form a triboelectric fiber blend.
- the triboelectric charge can also be formed, for example, during the production of the middle layer by contact of two contacting fibers which have a different dielectric constant.
- the fibers forming the at least one intermediate layer are charged electrostatically, so that a good adhesion of the powdered absorption material is achieved.
- the absorption material is preferably applied in an amount of 1 to 50% by weight, preferably 7 to 25% by weight, based on the electrostatically charged staple fibers and / or filaments. It has been shown that by the amounts mentioned above, an almost complete occupancy of the fibers is achieved. Greater than 50% does not significantly improve odor adsorption, but smaller than 1% can not provide a positive odor adsorption effect.
- hydrophobic zeolites, hydrophobic porous polymers and / or crystalline organometallic complexes and / or mixtures thereof are preferred in the invention as absorption materials, activated carbon being excluded as the absorption material.
- Particularly preferred absorption materials are zeolites and / or porous polymers.
- the zeolites is essential for the suitability that the micropores of zeolites have a sufficient size. Only above a diameter of> 5 ⁇ , the micropores are able to absorb and bind typical odor molecules. In addition, the zeolite must have a strongly hydrophobic (non-polar) character. Only from a ratio of SiO 2 / Al 2 O 3 > 200 (modulus) is a zeolite sufficiently nonpolar to bind the odor molecules. Particular preference is given to zeolites with a modulus> 300. The surface area exceeds 400 m 2 / g. The particle size of the zeolites used in the invention is 2 to 30 microns.
- the total pore volume is above 0.2 m 3 / g, but it can also be used agglomerates of these particles. In this case, a higher total pore volume can be realized by the resulting macropores.
- Such zeolites are accessible, for example, by dialyzing the types Y, 13C, ZSM5 and beta.
- zeolites For the zeolites, the commercially available types DAY (Degussa) and TZB 9013 (Tricat) and DALY (Tricat) have proven to be well suited.
- hydrophobic macroporous (macroreticular) polymers as absorption materials.
- a typical representative of these hydrophobic polymers is the crosslinked SDVB (styrenedivinylbenzene). It is formed by copolymerization of styrene with divinylbenzene in the presence of so-called porogens (pore formers).
- pore formers pore formers.
- Preference is given to using hydrophobic variants having a surface area of> 600 g / m 2 and micropores of 6 to 20 ⁇ , and the highest possible proportion of mesopores (20 to 500 ⁇ ) and macropores (> 500 ⁇ ).
- the average pore diameter is preferably between 3 and 300 ⁇ .
- the particle size is between 1 and 500 ⁇ m. Preference is given to particles having a particle size of 1 to 200 ⁇ m.
- the pore volume of such products is typically> 0.4 cm 3 / g.
- Such macroporous hydrophobic polymers can be purchased from Rohm & Haas (Amberlite), Purolite (Makronet), Dow Chemicals (Optipore), Mitsubishi Chemical Company (Sepabeads), and Bayer (IONAC).
- a coating of the charged fibers with porous crystalline organometallic complexes such as "MOF-177". This adsorbent realizes an extremely high surface area (4500 m 2 / g) with sufficiently large micropores (10 ⁇ ). These crystals are described in Nature, Vol. 427, pp. 253-527, February 2004 , Reference is made to the disclosure of this document.
- the fibers of the intermediate layer used according to the invention which are provided with the absorbent material as described above, are preferably chemical fibers.
- the synthetic fibers are synthetic fibers. Examples of synthetic fibers are fibers of polyolefins, polyesters, polyamides, polyacrylmethyl and / or polyvinyl alcohol.
- the fibers are branched, crimped, hollow and / or textured and / or a non-circular Have cross-section (eg, trilobal) cross-section. From the dimensions forth, it is advantageous if the fibers have an average length between 0.3 and 100 mm, preferably between 0.5 and 70 mm.
- the synthetic fibers can also be antibacterial. This can be done by adding antibacterial substances already during production. The advantage of these fibers is that the antibacterial substances are practically not released and no reduction of the antibacterial effect occurs.
- Such fibers are available from Rhovyl in F-55310 Tronville en Barrois, e.g. the fibers Rhovyl'AS + ®, or Japan Exlan Co. Ltd., Tokyo, as well as Sterling Fibers Inc., 5005 Sterling Way, Pace, Fla, under the brand names "biofresh” and DAK Americas, 5925 Carnegie Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28209.
