Abstract
Description
There are currently travel pillows in the trade, which are mostly static versions. In many static designs, there are deficiencies in the prior art which render these designs unsuitable for a relaxed resting and sleeping position during travel. Although these neck pillows, neck rolls or neck squirrels have a deepening in the neck area in some products, but do not have an additional dual support of the head, which makes it necessary especially in the sitting or semi-sitting sleep and rest position. Furthermore, there are pillows that have an almost identical shape as that of the presented travel and rest cushion, a medical scientific claim but still not enough, as they do not support the cervical spine area variable. For example, if the top three cushion parts have the same dimension and fill level, the head automatically rolls into the split seams and there is no optimal support. The medical travel cushion according to the present invention counteracts these deficiencies and pursues the goal of presenting a product that can meet in its variability different resting positions. The invention of the pad is based on findings of human-cybernetic medical research. The novelty of the pillow is its variability. It is designed for sitting or semi-sitting use. An integrated, movable neck roll and the associated double-fold folding mechanism, the pillow proves to be a prophylaxis against painful Muskeiverpannungen. The mechanism of action of the pillow is characterized by the optimal anatomical adaptation in the support of the atlas musculature. In order to point to the findings from the human-cybernetic research is communicated that the inventor / applicant practiced as orthopedic specialist and operates in his Berlin Institute of Applied Human Cybernetics for 10 years with ausherapierten pain patients and high-performance athletes basic research in basic medicine. The invention of the therapeutic pad for adults and children is based on many years of medical research in human cybernetics. The knowledge of the biomechanics of the cervical spine area and, above all, the knowledge about the function of the atlas, the first cervical vertebra, is essential in this context. At the Berlin Institute for Applied Humane Chemistry, the question was asked, for which reason no wear arthroses occur at the head joints. It was found out that the atlas (= nick) as a central element of the two head joints biomechanically exerts only the function of a dynamic sliding ring between the base of the skull and the second cervical vertebra. The actual support function of the approximately 4.5 to 5 kg head is taken over by the Atlasmuskulatur and the associated bands on a Tensegrity truss construction. This allows the Atlas a pressure load-free mobility over all three levels of the room. The finding that with increasing inclination of the cervical spine area during travel sleep, the increasing shear forces through the atlas muscles are largely alone to wear, was the occasion to develop a dual muscle relieving travel pillow.
In children, the main focus must be on the growth phase and thus on the disproportion of the size of the head to the still weak neck muscles. Due to a sleep position in a sitting position (car seat, buggy) an asymmetric muscle tone can build up in addition to an overstretching of the cervical spine and it can lead to scoliosis. The presented invention prevents overstretching of the ligamentous apparatus and musculature in the atlas region. An accident causes extreme stress on the cervical spine in infants, especially the atlas region. The occurring acceleration forces of the head and cervical spine generate strong horizontal shear forces on the said functional area. An essential advantage of equipping a child car seat with the travel cushion is that in an accident, the acceleration forces are compensated for, with the neck roll optimally supporting the cervical spine dorsally and laterally through the anatomical adaptation. At the Institute Xprts, Santa Barbara / Goteta, the different shear loads in the area of the atlas region in child car seats are currently being investigated and compared with the usual rigid, slightly padded head shells and with the use of the medical travel pillow.
The most common complaints in the lumbar spine (lumbar spine) are hemilateral complaints that lead to bilateral asymmetric muscular tension. An asymmetric muscular tension in the area of the lumbar spine can best be compensated by an asymmetrical cushion shape. If the cushion is stabilized by the Velcro fastener or is in the storage bag, it additionally fulfills the function of a support cushion for the LWS area. The storage bag keeps the asymmetry of the folded pillow dimensionally stable and by multiple position changes of the pad, the pressure distribution in the LWS area can be influenced.
The invention relates to a medical pillow for children and adults in the formats anatomically adapted (eg 30 x 30 cm 40 x 40 cm, 50 x 50 cm, etc.) for the cervical spine area, with a cushion cover made of different materials (eg cotton, silk, synthetics, Rubber, etc.) with a wide variety of fillers (eg wool, down, feathers, other natural fibers, synthetic fibers, gases, water and viscoelastic substances) and an external cushion cover that forms the cushion for the lumbar spine area and also serves as a storage bag. The pillow is divided transversely in the lower third by a wide, multi-stitched seam, this allows the necessary for the desired invention folding the pillow. Longitudinally the cushion is divided by two simple quilted seams. These run from the upper edge of the cushion to the transverse stitching in the lower third of the pillow. This results in the upper cushion part three Kissenkammem, of which the middle chamber is narrower and has less filler and the outer chambers are wider and contain more filler to optimally support the head sides. The lower, transverse to the pillow cushion part fulfills the task of a double-folding, continuous neck roll, with a folding variant in the middle has a hook and loop fastener to stabilize the folding. The three chambers of the upper cushion part are matched with the capacity of the neck roll so that the cushion reaches its highest efficiency only in the two folding variants. The two folding variants allow the deep flexor and extensor muscles in the atlas region to shift the tension and relaxation of the active muscle segments. Due to the biocybernetic memory effect, the dual function of the pillow automatically promotes isometric training of the involved muscle groups. The double-adjustable support pressure on the cervical region, based on the folding of the bolster on the front or back of the pillow, can be selected by a split filling of the bolster and the associated possibility of a filler combination (eg one side grains, one side foam) be increased to different neck support pressure variations. The cushion is designed to optimally improve sleeping and lying comfort in means of transportation (e.g., aircraft, bus, train, car, car child seat, stroller) and casual furniture (deck chair, beach chair, hammock, etc.). The embodiment counteracts cervical spine complaints and supports the natural mobilization of the atlas vertebra in its sensorimotor muscle regulation. In the embodiment for the lumbar columnar region, the described pillow with the neck roll flap is again folded centrally in the longitudinal axis of the pillow, so that all cushion parts double. This flap is held by a Velcro and can be stabilized by an external cushion cover. This results in an asymmetrical shape over three sides. With this form, hemilateral pains with muscular tension can be optimally controlled by means of a 360 degree variable stepless rotation. The different sizes of pillow parts result in high variability and optimum support for changing rest positions in the cervical and lumbar spine areas.
In further embodiments, it may be deviated from the strictly rectangular subdivision of the pad into sub-pads. Thus, in one embodiment, the cushion may be designed so that its outer boundary is trapezoidal in additional adaptation to the shape of the human body. For the pillow according to the invention, other embodiments may be provided. In another embodiment, the subdivision of the pad into more sub-pads may also serve to more variably conform to the human body.
