More recently aerogels gel-like material where the liquid component is replaced by gas have found their application in the building and in consumer products, such as sleeping bags and gloves, tennis rackets.
- Aerogels are defined as dry gels usually having nanoscale pores. This kind of material is obtained by supercritical drying of organogels which allows the removal of the solvent while maintaining the porous texture of the wet gel.
- the aerogels described in the literature are obtained from various and varied polymeric structures or from oxides such as alumina or silica.
- Silica aerogels the most widespread, consist of microspheres of a porous glass based on amorphous silicon dioxide. However these aerogels remain expensive and there is a need to provide new aerogels even more efficient and whose manufacture is less expensive.
- the inventors have recently fortuitously discovered that a series of low molecular weight compounds derived from natural amino acids are capable of gelling apolar solvents even at very low concentrations. These compounds are described by Brosse N. et al. (Tetrahedron Letters, 45, (2004) 9521-9524).
- the aerogels obtained from these organogels by evaporation of the solvent are nanostructured and mesoporous materials which have remarkable properties in terms in particular of specific surface area and very low contribution of the solid, which makes it possible to envisage the use of these materials. in various applications, especially as insulators, catalysts, thickeners for paint or cosmetics, etc.

Description
UTILISATION D'AEROGELS POUR LA PREPARATION DE MATERIAU POUR
ISOLATION THERMIQUE
