Description

The present invention relates to an energy absorbing device for anchoring a lifeline or the like.

The device in question relates to the field of safety against falls of people involved at height, especially on roofs of buildings or other structures.

To ensure the safety of a person, it is equipped with a harness, intended to be fixed to an anchor point, or to a life line via a carabiner. In the event of a fall, it is the anchorage point which is fixed for example to a wall, a frame or a roof which ensures the restraint of the person during his fall. The lifeline can be constituted for example by a cable or straps. Life lines which are fixed at their ends on structures, transmit to the fastening zones on the structures efforts that can be very important. These efforts depend on different parameters, such as composition and length of the lifeline, spacing of intermediate and angle checkpoints, number of people connected simultaneously.

However, the structure on which is fixed the life line does not always have sufficient strength to withstand significant effort, as is the case when a person falls. It is therefore appropriate, in such cases, that the anchoring device of the lifeline has an energy absorbing capacity, operating in the manner of a shock absorber.

Some known shock absorbers comprise damping means which involve the compression or traction of elastic components, in particular springs. Such dampers are most often disposable and deform even when low stresses are exerted on them.

The document EP 2 095 847 discloses an energy absorbing device comprising a cylindrical housing provided with fixing means at a fixed point, a piston displaceable axially inside the cylindrical housing, a rod whose one end is integral with the piston and whose the other end protrudes outside the housing and is provided with connection means to a lifeline, and a damping element housed in the cylindrical housing and intended to be compressed by the piston. During a the fall of an operator connected to a lifeline provided with such a device for absorbing energy, a traction force is exerted on the connection means, and thus on the rod, which causes the piston to move and compression of the damping element. This results in an absorption of part of the energy generated by the fall of the operator.

This type of energy absorbing device uses the stroke of a piston inside a cylindrical housing to absorb shocks. Thus, in order to obtain a satisfactory energy absorption, it is necessary to provide a bulky device to ensure a satisfactory race of such a piston.

A .Other energy absorbing devices for anchoring a lifeline are known from the documents FR 2 886 165 A and WO 2006/103259 A .

The present invention aims to remedy these disadvantages.

The technical problem underlying the invention therefore consists in providing an energy absorption device which is of simple structure, economical and compact, which does not deform below a certain threshold of constraints, and which be safe to use.

For this purpose, the present invention relates to a device for absorbing energy for anchoring a lifeline or the like, characterized in that it comprises:
  • a housing,
  • fastening means arranged to fix the casing on a fixed point,
  • a first portion of cable wound inside the housing,
  • connection means secured to the first portion of cable and intended to be connected to a lifeline,
  • a friction ring mounted on the first portion of cable so as to exert a clamping force on the latter, and
  • stop means disposed in the housing along a portion of the first cable portion extending between the connecting means and the friction ring, and against which is intended to bear the friction ring,
and in that the clamping force exerted by the friction ring on the first cable portion is predetermined so as to allow relative movement of the first cable portion relative to the friction ring when the friction ring is in abutment. against the stop means and a tensile force greater than a predetermined value is exerted on the connecting means.

In the event of a fall of an operator connected to a lifeline equipped with a device for absorbing energy according to the invention, a significant traction force is exerted on the connection means, which causes a displacement. relative to the first cable portion with respect to the friction ring, and more particularly a sliding of the first portion of cable inside the latter. The friction generated by such displacement of the first cable portion absorbs at least part of the energy due to impact.

Under normal conditions of use, the operator connected to the lifeline exerts a low tensile force on the connection means, which prevents any relative movement between the first cable portion and the friction ring.

Thus, the energy absorbing device according to the invention does not deform below a certain stress threshold, which prevents inadvertent tripping of the energy absorbing device.

In addition, the use of a portion of cable wound inside a housing to absorb the energy of a shock provides a significant absorption stroke, while retaining a little device. cumbersome.

In addition, obtaining a significant absorption stroke improves the safety of use of the energy absorbing device according to the invention.

Advantageously, the energy absorption device comprises a second cable portion having a first end connected to the fixing means and a second end connected to the connection means. These arrangements make it possible to ensure retention of an operator in the event of breakage of the first portion of cable, and thus to further improve the safety of use of the energy absorption device.

Preferably, the first and second cable portions and the connection means are formed by the same cable.

Advantageously, the first cable portion has a free end opposite to the connection means and comprises an end stop intended to cooperate with the friction ring.

Preferably, the abutment means comprise an abutment ring having a through opening through which the first portion of cable extends.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the energy absorption device comprises two plates spaced from each other and each having at least a first portion disposed inside the housing and a second portion protruding outside the housing, the abutment means being secured to the first portions of said plates, and the second portions of said plates forming at least partly the fixing means.

Preferably, the fastening means further comprise a fastening key intended to be engaged and locked in eyelets formed in the second portions of said plates.

Advantageously, the fixing means are mounted movable relative to the housing between a first position, said retracted, wherein the fastening means are located near the housing and a second position, said outlet, wherein the fastening means are remote from the casing, the fixing means being arranged to be moved in the second position when a tensile force greater than a predetermined value is exerted on the connecting means, and the energy absorbing device comprises at least one visual indicator of biasing, advantageously brightly colored, arranged to be visible from outside the housing when the fastening means are in the second position. These arrangements make it possible to display in a safe and indisputable manner any solicitation of the device according to the invention.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the first end of the second cable portion is connected to the fastening means by means of a yoke pivotally mounted on the fastening means.

Preferably, the friction ring is crimped to the first cable portion.

The two plates 13 are spaced from each other and each have a mounting portion 13a disposed inside the casing 4 and a fixing portion 13b protruding outside the casing 4.

As shown on the figure 5b , the mounting portions 13a each comprise an eyelet 14 for crimping the end portions of the stop ring 11. As shown in particular on the figure 3 , the fixing portions 13b each comprise an eyelet 15 in which is intended to be engaged and locked a fastening key 16 so as to allow attachment of the housing 4 on a fixed point.

The energy absorbing device 2 further comprises a second cable portion 17 having a first end 18 connected to the plates 13 by means of a yoke 19 pivotally mounted around the securing key 16, and a second end Connected to the connection means 7. The second cable portion 17 comprises a first part extending inside the casing 4 and a second part extending outside the casing 4, the second part protruding from the casing 4. outside the housing through an opening 21 delimited by the latter.

The first and second cable portions 5, 17 may each be made from a single-strand or multi-strand cable made for example of stainless steel.

The first and second cable portions 5, 17 and the connecting means 7 are advantageously formed by the same cable folded on itself so as to form a connecting loop 7 forming the connecting means, and two cable portions forming the first and second cable portions 5, 17.

The figure 8 represents a lifeline 22 equipped with the energy absorbing device 2. The lifeline 22 comprises a cable 23, one end of which is connected to the connection means 7 of the energy absorbing device 2 by the intermediate of a tensioner, and whose other end is fixed to a fixed point 24. It should be noted that the fixing portions 13b and the securing key 16 ensure the attachment of the energy absorbing device 2 to a fixed point 25.

Ceci permet d'éviter tout déclenchement intempestif du dispositif d'absorption d'énergie 2.Under normal conditions of use, an operator 26 connected to the lifeline 22 exerts a slight pull on the cable 23 of the lifeline 22. Consequently, the traction force exerted on the connection means 7 is small compared to to the clamping force exerted by the friction ring 10 on the first cable portion 5, and does not allow a relative displacement between the first cable portion 5 and the friction ring 10. This prevents any inadvertent tripping of the energy absorbing device 2.

During an accidental fall of the operator 26 connected to the lifeline (see figure 9 ), the latter generates a high traction force on the cable 23 of the lifeline and, consequently, on the connecting means 7. This high traction force is greater than the clamping force exerted by the friction ring 10 on the first portion of cable 5, and thus allows a displacement of the first cable portion 5 inside the friction ring 10. This results in a distance of the connecting means 7 of the housing 4, as shown in particular the figures 6 and 9 .

During this movement of the first cable portion 5, the outer wall of the latter moves by rubbing on the inner wall of the friction ring 10, which produces an energy absorption and thus makes it possible to absorb at least part of the energy generated by the fall of the operator.

It should be noted that the displacement of the first cable portion 5 is likely to continue until the end stop 9 mounted at the second end 8 of the first cable portion 5 abuts against the friction ring 10 (see figure 7 ).

In particular, it appears from figure 9 that an operator can immediately see that the device 2 has suffered a shock and amortized shock, given the importance of exceeding the connection means 7 relative to the housing 4.

According to an alternative embodiment of the invention shown on the Figures 10 and 11 , the plates 13 are mounted movable relative to the casing 4 between a first, so-called retracted position, in which the fixing portions 13b are located near the casing (see FIG. figure 10 ) and a second position, said outlet, in which the fixing portions 13b are remote from the housing (see figure 11 ), the plates 13 being arranged to be displaced in the second position when a tensile force greater than a predetermined value is exerted on the connecting means 7. According to this variant embodiment, the energy absorbing device 2 comprises at least one visual biasing indicator 27, advantageously brightly colored, formed on one of the plates 13 and arranged to be visible from outside the housing 4 when the fastening portions 13b are in the second position.

As goes without saying, the invention is not limited to the sole embodiment of this energy absorption device, described above as an example, it encompasses all the variants of embodiment. .
