Description
The present invention relates to a method of mounting a safety line cable on a tensioner and a tensioner adapted to be used for the execution of this method.
The invention is particularly applicable to security installations generally called lifelines or security lines allowing staff to be hired for interventions in perilous conditions. The invention is directed to the establishment of safety lines generally consisting of cables on which people can be hitched so as to avoid accidents during accidental falls.
The safety lines must be connected to each other or connected to fixed elements, including support posts or wall mounts. In this connection, it is common to use tensioners allowing on the one hand a fixation on an external element (such as the wall) and on the other hand the connection of the cable of the safety line. Current tensioners also sometimes comprise a damping element capable of absorbing at least partially part of the energy generated by a possible pull on the cable of the safety line.
The connection of the safety line cable to the tensioner is generally done by crimping said cable inside a sleeve. The cable is firstly cut to length to be received in the sleeve, it is kept in tension preferably at a predetermined value and the crimping operation is carried out.
It is easy to understand that adjusting the length of the cable and maintaining it in tension in this configuration have many practical disadvantages for the emergency personnel. Indeed, these are difficult steps to implement and generally require two or three people. In addition, because it is difficult to precisely adjust the length of cable to be cut, the tension is difficult to adjust.
The present invention overcomes all or part of the disadvantages of the tensioners and assembly methods known until now.
According to the invention, the assembly is made much more convenient insofar as the cable is completely passed through the sleeve so as to exceed, the end of the cable can thus be easily maintained during the crimping operation and the cable length perfectly adjusted before cutting.
- passage of the cable through the sleeve,
- keeping the cable under tension by its end emerging from the sleeve,
- crimping the cable in the sleeve.
- the end of the cable emerging from the sleeve is cut off,
- when holding the live cable, the voltage is adjusted to a predetermined value before crimping.
- the sleeve has a hole opening for the passage of the cable through the sleeve,
- it comprises an opening configured to allow access from outside the tensioner to the end of the cable emerging from the sleeve so as to ensure its maintenance under tension during crimping of the cable in the sleeve.
- the opening is closable by a shutter,
- it comprises a channel adapted to guide the end of the cable between the hole of the sleeve and the opening,
- a hollow rod is mounted at the end of the sleeve, the cable also passing through the hollow rod,
- the rod is mounted translative in opposition to elastic return means relative to the rest of the tensioner,
- the elastic return means are a spring surrounding the rod,
- it comprises a channel adapted to guide the end of the cable between the outlet of the hollow rod and the opening.

The tensioner presented here generally comprises a first end provided with a
At the other end of the tensioner, fixing means 15 are provided for connecting the tensioner to an external element such as a fastening system on a wall or a post or to another safety line cable.
By pulling on the
The
We can then cut the
It is easy to understand that during these operations, one or two intervention personnel are sufficient for a precise and effective implementation.
Note that it is possible to refine the tension of the cable by relative displacement of some parts of the tensioner, in particular by displacement of the
In the interior volume of the
One of the parts, hereinafter referred to as the fixed part 1, comprises a
The cable portions 6a, 6b comprise a free portion terminated by limit stops 9a, 9b and another end capable of being driven in a translation movement during the absorption of a shock.
Advantageously, as shown, the two cable portions 6a, 6b are formed on the same cable having a turning zone 7 substantially in its middle and in conjunction with the axis of the
Sliding relative to the
The tension of the safety line cable can also be adjusted by adjusting the length of the entire tensioner, in particular by acting on the fastening means 15 or by providing a threaded connection between the
In the normal position, the
An exemplary use of the tensioner of the invention is given below.
In the first place, the tensioner is attached to an external element such as a fixed wall, by fixing
In the normal use position, no movement between the
During an accidental fall, the person connected to the safety line generates additional traction on the safety line cable and, consequently, on the turnbuckle. At this level of effort, the fuse link is broken, in particular by tearing the threads of the
The
During this phase, the portions 6a, 6b move by rubbing on the walls of the passages formed in the
When the energy of the fall has been absorbed at least partially, the assembly comes to rest in a position of relative spacing between the
The formation of two cable portions 6a, 6b makes it possible to balance the assembly in the direction of traction and produces two symmetrical friction zones. Another advantage of this embodiment is to allow the use of smaller diameter cables than if a single cable was formed thus ensuring better winding capacity of the free end of the cable portions 6a, 6b and a greater length . These windings are received in a volume dedicated for this purpose formed in a cavity internal to the
