The support member has a stop lug 47 which abuts when closing the pipe wrench 01 on the palm-side pliers handle 24 of the second pliers part 20. The support member has a slightly curved U-shape, each on the backside End and at the handle end has a bore, wherein a first bore 49 for articulation on the second crank 28 of the second pliers member 20 is used and a second bore 50 of the attachment of the locking means 32 is used.

Claims (11)

  1. A pipe wrench (01) with an adjustable mouth opening, comprising:
    - a first part of the wrench (02) with an outer wrench jaw (04), a finger-side wrench grip (06) and a lever extension (08) running between them, with a jaw-side section (10), in which a first elongated hole (14) runs axially, and with an axially-offset, grip-side section (12) adjoining via a first cranked section (13);
    - a second part of the wrench (20) with an inner wrench jaw (22), a heel of the hand-side wrench grip (24) and a feed-through section (26) running between them, which possesses a feed-through opening (27) located in the main extension plane, which permits the feed through of the finger-side wrench grip (06) and the lever extension (08) of the first part of the wrench (02);
    - a swivel joint pin (16), which extends through the first elongated hole (14) in the first part of the wrench (02), and through a guide bore (18) in the feed-through section (26) of the second part of the wrench (20), so as to connect the two parts of the wrench with one another such that they cross over;
    - a support element (30), characterised in that, at its jaw-side end the support element is hinged on a second cranked section (28) running between the feed-through section (26) and the inner wrench jaw (22), and at its grip-side end it is supported by means of a locking agent (32) on the grip-side section (12) of the lever extension (08) of the first part of the wrench (02), wherein the support point of the support element (30) can be moved along the grip-side section (12) so as to displace the two parts of the wrench (02, 20) axially relative to one another, and thereby adjust the mouth opening between the two wrench jaws (04, 22).
  2. The pipe wrench in accordance with claim 1, characterised in that the locking agent (32) can be moved in a second elongated hole (34), which runs axially in the grip-side section (12) of the lever extension (08), and can be adjusted between a locked and an unlocked position.
  3. The pipe wrench in accordance with claim 2, characterised in that, the locking agent (32) comprises a locking pin (38), which along its axis has a toothed and an untoothed region, located one behind another, wherein in the locked position the toothed region engages with internal teeth (36) in the second elongated hole (34), and wherein by means of axial displacement of the locking pin (38) the interlocking teeth are disengaged.
  4. The pipe wrench in accordance with claim 2, characterised in that the locking agent (32) comprises a locking pin (38), which has a toothed and an untoothed region, which are arranged on opposing peripheral sections, wherein by pivoting the support element (32) out of a single-sided set of teeth (36) in the second elongated hole (34) the toothed region can be disengaged.
  5. The pipe wrench in accordance with one of the claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the feed-through opening (27) possesses a clearance that is larger than the thickness of the finger-side wrench grip (06), such that the latter can be fed through without any deformation of the jaw-side section (10).
  6. The pipe wrench in accordance with one of the claims 1 to 5, characterised in that the finger-side wrench grip (06) has an outer end surface (07), which is wider than the other section of the finger-side wrench grip (06), and in that an indent (29) is provided in the jaw-side section (10) of the feed-through opening (27), the open cross-section of which corresponds to the cross-section of the end surface (07).
  7. The pipe wrench in accordance with one of the claims 1 to 6, characterised in that the support element (30) has a spring element (44), the force of which acts on to the locking agent (32) so as to push the latter into a locking position.
  8. The pipe wrench in accordance with one of the claims 1 to 7, characterised in that a coiled spring is clamped between the support element (30) and the second cranked section (28) of the second part of the wrench (20), which spring causes the mouth of the pipe wrench (01) to open.
  9. The pipe wrench in accordance with claim 4, characterised in that the support element (30) has a stop nose (47), which abuts against the second part of the wrench (20) as the pipe wrench (01) is closed.
  10. The pipe wrench in accordance with one of the claims 1 to 9, characterised in that each of the two parts of the wrench (02, 20) is designed in one piece.
  11. The pipe wrench in accordance with one of the claims 1 to 10, characterised in that the hinge point (31) of the support element (30) on the second cranked section (28) running between the feed-through section (26) and the inner wrench jaw (22) in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the wrench parts is arranged nearer to the wrench jaws (02, 20) than the swivel joint pin (16).
