Description

MEANS FOR MOUNTING AN ARTICLE
FIELD QF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a means for mounting an article, such as a sliding support for a tray or drawer, onto a grid, such as those that are commonly found mounted to an inside wall of a household appliance, such as an oven or dishwasher.
BACKROUND OF THE INVENTION
It is known to attach articles to grids which are mounted on the inside side walls of household appliances such as ovens or dishwashers. Such grids generally comprise a plurality of horizontally extending wires mounted at either of their ends to at least a pair of vertical wires. The vertical wires are attached to an interior side wall of the appliance. The horizontal wires are generally elongated in a first direction, and have end portions which extend in a second direction, substantially perpendicular to the first direction. The articles which are mounted to the grids may comprise, for example, oven trays or racks, or dishwasher baskets.
In order to attach the articles to the grids, fixing brackets are used. Examples of such fixing brackets are disclosed in WO 2007/090738 and WO 2007/074114. In both of these documents, a pair of front and rear fixing brackets are used to attach a support to each grid. Both of the front and rear fixing brackets have respective first and second clip- type sections, the first clip-type section partially encompasses the elongate section of a horizontal wire, and the second clip-type section partially encompasses an angled end section of the horizontal wire.
With the prior art designs, the sliding supports are attached to a single one of the horizontal wires. Such a connection method suffers from a lack of stability.
Accordingly, there is a need for an improved fixing bracket which offers increased stability. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention provides a means for mounting an article on a grid, said grid comprising a pair of substantially parallel, spaced apart vertical wires and at least one substantially horizontal wire, said means for mounting comprising: a support having a first fixing bracket positioned close to a first end thereof, and a second fixing bracket positioned close to a second end thereof, wherein: the support is elongated in a first direction, the first fixing bracket comprises a first section for partially encompassing a first of the vertical wires, and the second fixing bracket comprises a first section for partially encompassing a second of the vertical wires.
The means for mounting provides a way of mounting an article to a grid which offers improved stability over known means for mounting.
The first fixing bracket may further comprise a second section for partially encompassing the at least one horizontal wire.
The second fixing bracket may further comprise a second section for partially encompassing the at least one horizontal wire.
The first and/or second fixing brackets may be formed integrally with the support. In a particular embodiment, the support may be formed from a sheet material and the first and/or second fixing brackets may be bent and shaped portions of the sheet material. The sheet material may be formed of a material such as steel, aluminium or a composite material.
Alternatively, the first and/or second fixing brackets may be formed separately from the support and mounted on the support. The first and/or second fixing brackets may be mounted on the support using a suitable means such as a weld, a rivet, or a screw, for example. In an alternative embodiment the present invention provides a means for mounting an article on a grid, said grid comprising a pair of substantially parallel, spaced apart horizontal wires, said means for mounting comprising: a support having a first fixing bracket positioned close to a first end thereof, and a second fixing bracket positioned close to a second end thereof, wherein: the support is elongated in a first direction, each of the first fixing bracket and the second fixing bracket comprises a single sheet of material shaped to partially encompass each of the pair of horizontal wires.
The first and second fixing brackets may each comprise a single sheet of material only which is shaped to partially encompass each of the pair of horizontal wires, with no additional material used to form the brackets. Alternatively, the first and second fixing brackets may each comprise a single sheet of material shaped to partially encompass each of the pair of horizontal wires, and a further sheet of material shaped to partially encompass one of the pair of horizontal wires.
The first and second fixing brackets may include a substantially vertical first section to which the support is attached.
The portions of the first and second fixing brackets have a cross-section which partially encompasses both of the horizontal wires.
The cross-section may be substantially S-shaped such that the brackets encompass the two horizontal wires on opposite sides horizontally and a portion of the brackets separates the horizontal wires.
Alternatively, the cross-section may be substantially M-shaped such that the brackets encompass the two horizontal wires on the same sides horizontally and a portion of the brackets extends between and grips the horizontal wires. The portion of the brackets which extends and grips the wires may have a vertical dimension which is larger than the vertical spacing between the wires, in order to prevent the brackets from being pulled away from the wires. Alternatively, the cross-section may be substantially C-shaped such that the brackets encompass the two horizontal wires on opposite sides vertically and no portion of the brackets separates the horizontal wires vertically.
The means for mounting provides a way of mounting an article to a grid which offers improved stability over known means for mounting.
In another alternative embodiment the present invention provides a means for mounting an article on a grid, said grid comprising a pair of substantially parallel, spaced apart vertical wires and a pair of substantially parallel, spaced apart horizontal wires, each horizontal wire having an elongate section and an end section substantially perpendicular to the elongate section, said means for mounting comprising: a support having a first fixing bracket positioned close to a first end thereof, and a second fixing bracket positioned close to a second end thereof, wherein: the support is elongated in a first direction, the first fixing bracket comprises a first section for partially encompassing an end section of at least one of the horizontal wires, and a second section for extending between and gripping the elongate sections of the horizontal wires, and the second fixing bracket comprises a first section for partially encompassing an end section of at least one of the horizontal wires, and a second section for extending between and gripping the elongate sections of the horizontal wires.
