Definitions
- the present invention relates to a universal lock for swing-doors, i.e., a lock adapted to work both on single-leaf doors and on two-leaf doors and in particular also on two-leaf doors provided with antipanic devices (handles or bars).
- Swing-doors are provided normally with locks in which a latch and at least one bolt protrude at the front and are intended to engage in respective recesses of the jamb in order to ensure closure.
- the latch can be normally retracted by moving the handle or by turning the key in the actuation cylinder.
- the latch is actuated by the movement of the cylinder, which is functionally associated with the key.
- the secondary leaf can be locked manually (by means of suitable locking couplings, generally on the ceiling and floor) or also can be opened by means of a respective handle (in this case, the handle is intended to retract any locking couplings).
- the handle of the secondary leaf is not functional when the main leaf is closed (in particular if it is locked with a key) in order to avoid break-ins.
- the latch and the bolt (even when the latter is fully extracted for security closure) must be fully retractable by moving only the handle (or the bar): a fleeing person (in case of fire or other risk situations) must be able to exit from the rooms delimited by the door simply by pushing the handle (or bar).
- the strike lock is provided with a pusher that acts on a protruding pivot of the lock, releasing the retraction of the bolt and of the latch: at this point, the action of a pusher (generally the same one) on the bolt causes its retraction and, by way of suitable internal lever systems, the consequent retraction also of the latch, and therefore the opening of the main leaf as well.
- This pivot according to a particularly efficient constructive solution disclosed by this same Applicant in EP0620342 , is installed at the front end wall of the bolt: this embodiment ensures that it is not accessible (for break-in purposes) and therefore allows to maintain a high level of security for the lock that comprises it.
- the aim of the present invention is to provide a universal lock for swing-doors, i.e., a lock adapted to be fitted to any kind of swing-door, fully achieving all of the tasks required by the specific installation.
- an object of the present invention is to provide a lock for swing-doors of the universal type in order to reduce inventories of material held in stock, by unifying into a single component a plurality of different articles suitable for specific applications.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide a universal lock for swing-doors that can be adapted, even during installation with the aid of simple tools available to any technician, to any installation application.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide a universal lock for swing-doors that has low costs, is relatively simple to provide in practice and is safe in application.
- the present universal lock for swing-doors of the type comprising a box-like body for containing a movement cylinder that is associated with a respective actuation key, a rotating bush associated with a handle, suitable lever systems for the translational motion of at least one latch and of at least one bolt, functionally associated with said handle and said cylinder, and a pivot that protrudes, in contrast with elastic transmission means, said at least one bolt being locked in the extracted configuration when said pivot protrudes, and being free, for a retraction which is forced by an external force, when said pivot is pressed to retract, contrasting said elastic transmission means, by an external force, characterized in that it comprises means for the mechanical deactivation of said pivot.
- the reference numeral 1 generally designates a universal lock for swing-doors.
- the lock 1 comprises a box-like body 2 for containing a movement cylinder 3, which is associated with a respective actuation key (not visible in the accompanying figures), a rotating bush 4 which is associated with a handle (not visible in the accompanying figures), suitable lever systems 5, for the translational motion of at least one latch 6 and of at least one bolt 7, which are functionally associated with the handle and with the cylinder 3.
- the lock 1 also comprises a closing sensor 8, which is designed to lock/release the latch 6 when it is forced to retract by an external action or when it is normally extracted by the action of the spring associated therewith.
- the lock 1 further comprises a pivot 9 which protrudes, in contrast with elastic transmission means (said elastic means, not visible in the figure, are constituted normally by at least one axially acting spring, which tends to keep the pivot in the protruding configuration).
- the at least one bolt 7 is locked in the extracted configuration when the pivot 9 protrudes, and is free, for optional retraction forced by an external force (in particular as a consequence of a pushing action applied to the bolt 7 in the direction for its retraction) when the pivot 9 is pressed to retract, contrasting the elastic transmission means, by an external force.
- the force applied to the pivot 9 cain be the same that will be applied to the bolt 7, for example by means of a pusher provided in the strike lock (of the secondary leaf), which will first press the pivot 9, releasing the retrograde stroke of the bolt 7, and then pushes inward the entire bolt 7 to completely open the lock 1.
- the lock 1 comprises means for mechanical deactivation of the pivot 9: by deactivating the pivot 9 (and thus eliminating its effects on the bolt 7 and optionally on the transmissions 10 and on the latch 6), the lock 1 behaves like a normal lock for single-leaf swing-doors (of the simple or antipanic type) or for a double leaf of the simple type (without antipanic function).
- the means for mechanical deactivation of the pivot 9 must be excluded: in this case, the pivot 9 therefore will allow the retraction of the bolt 7 (and of the transmissions 10 and of the latch 6) and the lock 1 will fulfill perfectly the typical needs of that installation.
- the pivot 9 is accommodated within a hole 11 of the bolt 7 that is arranged on the sagittal plane thereof: the hole 11 is parallel to the direction of translational motion (entry and exit) of the bolt 7.
- the hole 11 and one end 12 of the pivot 9 lead to a unit 13 for retracting the bolt 7.
- the means for mechanical deactivation of the pivot 9 comprise a stem 14, which is contained entirely in the hole 11 and can slide therein.
- the end that faces outward is provided with elements for detachable coupling with a head 15, the portion of which that protrudes from the front of the bolt 7 constitutes the actual pivot 9.
- the elements for coupling the stem 14 to the corresponding head 15 are constituted by a threaded hole (provided on the top of the stem 14): accordingly, the head 15 of the pivot 9 comprises a respective shank, whose dimensions and shape are complementary to those of the hole, which can be screwed into such hole.
- the head 15 of the pivot 9 is removed from the threaded hole, it is possible to provide a suitable plug whose dimensions and shape are complementary to those of the hole in order to close it detachably; in this manner, it is not possible to access the unit 13 in any way, not even by using break-in tools. It is convenient to provide on the top of the pivot 9 (therefore on the head 15) a suitable contoured recess for actuation (screwing and unscrewing) by means of a specific tool.
- the means for mechanical deactivation of the pivot 9 comprise a pin 16, which can perform a translational motion in a transverse receptacle 17 of the bolt 7.
- the receptacle 17 is open in a lower region and therefore leads to the hole 11 that accommodates the pivot 9.
- the pin 16 can perform a translational motion, by way of external action, from a free configuration for the pivot 9, in which it is accommodated completely in the receptacle 17, to a locking configuration of the pivot 9, in which its end protrudes from the receptacle 17 in the hole 11, interfering with the pivot 9 and locking it in the hole 11 by mechanical forcing.
- the pivot 9 by adopting different levels of diameter and constituting a shoulder therein: with this constructive choice, in addition to preventing the unintended extraction of the pivot from the hole 11 (it is sufficient for it to have a diameter that tapers at the front edge of the bolt 7 to utilize the shoulder of the pivot 9 as a stop element), the locking of the pivot 9 in the chosen configuration is ensured, maintaining the shoulder upstream or downstream of the pin 16 that protrudes from the receptacle 17.
- the hole 11 comprises a suitable contoured region 18 at the retraction unit 13 and the means for mechanical deactivation of the pivot 9 comprise a shaft 19, which is contained entirely in the hole 11 and can slide therein and is provided at its innermost end with an eccentric block 20, which is jointly connected to the pivot 9 on the opposite side with respect to its portion that protrudes from the bolt 7.
- the pivot 9 can rotate about its own axis.
- the eccentric block 20 can move between one configuration, in which the pivot 9 is active for the retraction of the bolt 7, for coupling with a respective recess 21 formed in the retraction unit 13 at the contoured region 18 of the hole 11, and a configuration in which the pivot 9 is passive and is not associated with the retraction unit 13 of the bolt 7, for freedom of movement of the pivot 9 and of the block 20 with respect to the retraction unit 13.
- the pivot 9 comprises, in its portion that protrudes from the bolt 7, suitable grip areas 22 for a tool that is suitable for turning the pivot 9 and therefore the shaft 19 jointly connected thereto.
- the eccentric block 20 exits and reenters the recess 21 provided in the retraction unit 13 as a consequence of rotations of the pivot 9 performed with the tool engaged in the respective grip area 22.
- the bolt 7 comprises at least one suitable transverse dowel 23, which is accommodated within a respective pocket 27 of the bolt 7 that interferes with the shaft 19 to lock it.
Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to a universal lock for swing-doors, i.e., a lock adapted to work both on single-leaf doors and on two-leaf doors and in particular also on two-leaf doors provided with antipanic devices (handles or bars).
- Swing-doors are provided normally with locks in which a latch and at least one bolt protrude at the front and are intended to engage in respective recesses of the jamb in order to ensure closure. The latch can be normally retracted by moving the handle or by turning the key in the actuation cylinder. The latch is actuated by the movement of the cylinder, which is functionally associated with the key.
- In two-leaf doors, the secondary leaf can be locked manually (by means of suitable locking couplings, generally on the ceiling and floor) or also can be opened by means of a respective handle (in this case, the handle is intended to retract any locking couplings). Of course, the handle of the secondary leaf is not functional when the main leaf is closed (in particular if it is locked with a key) in order to avoid break-ins.
- When referring to antipanic doors, instead, the latch and the bolt (even when the latter is fully extracted for security closure) must be fully retractable by moving only the handle (or the bar): a fleeing person (in case of fire or other risk situations) must be able to exit from the rooms delimited by the door simply by pushing the handle (or bar).
- This occurs with single-leaf doors, but must be possible also on two-leaf doors.
- In two-leaf doors, the strike lock is provided with a pusher that acts on a protruding pivot of the lock, releasing the retraction of the bolt and of the latch: at this point, the action of a pusher (generally the same one) on the bolt causes its retraction and, by way of suitable internal lever systems, the consequent retraction also of the latch, and therefore the opening of the main leaf as well.
- This pivot, according to a particularly efficient constructive solution disclosed by this same Applicant in
EP0620342 , is installed at the front end wall of the bolt: this embodiment ensures that it is not accessible (for break-in purposes) and therefore allows to maintain a high level of security for the lock that comprises it. - The quick analysis of the described locks for swing-door leaves allows to realize that manufacturers must have available in the catalog a plurality of locks (all of which are similar to each other), adapted to deal-with different applications.
- This entails a reduced streamlining of components and higher storage and production costs.
- Likewise, installation technicians in turn are forced to purchase a plurality of different lock models in order to cope with the different cases that they will encounter.
- It is evident that the limited versatility of existing locks is in practice uneconomical and scarcely practical and also requires a high level of skill to the installer, who must know how to recognize immediately the type of lock that is suitable for a given installation configuration, since the other models will not be able to perform all the tasks of the situation.
- The aim of the present invention is to provide a universal lock for swing-doors, i.e., a lock adapted to be fitted to any kind of swing-door, fully achieving all of the tasks required by the specific installation.
- Within this aim, an object of the present invention is to provide a lock for swing-doors of the universal type in order to reduce inventories of material held in stock, by unifying into a single component a plurality of different articles suitable for specific applications.
- This aim and these and other objects, which will become better apparent hereinafter, are achieved by the present universal lock for swing-doors, of the type comprising a box-like body for containing a movement cylinder that is associated with a respective actuation key, a rotating bush associated with a handle, suitable lever systems for the translational motion of at least one latch and of at least one bolt, functionally associated with said handle and said cylinder, and a pivot that protrudes, in contrast with elastic transmission means, said at least one bolt being locked in the extracted configuration when said pivot protrudes, and being free, for a retraction which is forced by an external force, when said pivot is pressed to retract, contrasting said elastic transmission means, by an external force, characterized in that it comprises means for the mechanical deactivation of said pivot.
- Further characteristics and advantages of the invention will become better apparent and evident from the following detailed description of some preferred but not exclusive embodiments of a universal lock for swing-doors, illustrated by way of non-limiting example in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
-
Figure 1 is a side view of a universal lock for swing-doors according to the invention; -
Figure 2 is an enlarged-scale side view of the detail A according to a first embodiment of a universal lock for swing-doors according to the invention; -
Figure 3 is an enlarged-scale side view of the detail A according to a second embodiment of a universal lock for swing-doors according to the invention; -
Figure 4 is an enlarged-scale side view of the detail A according to a third embodiment of a universal lock for swing-doors according to the invention. - With reference to the figures, the
reference numeral 1 generally designates a universal lock for swing-doors. - The
lock 1 comprises a box-like body 2 for containing amovement cylinder 3, which is associated with a respective actuation key (not visible in the accompanying figures), arotating bush 4 which is associated with a handle (not visible in the accompanying figures),suitable lever systems 5, for the translational motion of at least onelatch 6 and of at least onebolt 7, which are functionally associated with the handle and with thecylinder 3. In the embodiment shown in the accompanying figures, thelock 1 also comprises aclosing sensor 8, which is designed to lock/release thelatch 6 when it is forced to retract by an external action or when it is normally extracted by the action of the spring associated therewith. - The
lock 1 further comprises apivot 9 which protrudes, in contrast with elastic transmission means (said elastic means, not visible in the figure, are constituted normally by at least one axially acting spring, which tends to keep the pivot in the protruding configuration). - The at least one
bolt 7 is locked in the extracted configuration when thepivot 9 protrudes, and is free, for optional retraction forced by an external force (in particular as a consequence of a pushing action applied to thebolt 7 in the direction for its retraction) when thepivot 9 is pressed to retract, contrasting the elastic transmission means, by an external force. The force applied to thepivot 9 cain be the same that will be applied to thebolt 7, for example by means of a pusher provided in the strike lock (of the secondary leaf), which will first press thepivot 9, releasing the retrograde stroke of thebolt 7, and then pushes inward theentire bolt 7 to completely open thelock 1. - In particular, by way of the
lever systems 5, the automatic retraction of any other bolts associated withtransmissions 10 and of thelatch 6 is also possible. - The
lock 1 according to the invention comprises means for mechanical deactivation of the pivot 9: by deactivating the pivot 9 (and thus eliminating its effects on thebolt 7 and optionally on thetransmissions 10 and on the latch 6), thelock 1 behaves like a normal lock for single-leaf swing-doors (of the simple or antipanic type) or for a double leaf of the simple type (without antipanic function). - If it is instead convenient to use the
lock 1 in a two-leaf swing-door with antipanic function, the means for mechanical deactivation of thepivot 9 must be excluded: in this case, thepivot 9 therefore will allow the retraction of the bolt 7 (and of thetransmissions 10 and of the latch 6) and thelock 1 will fulfill perfectly the typical needs of that installation. - According to the embodiment of greatest interest in practice and in application for the Applicant, the
pivot 9 is accommodated within ahole 11 of thebolt 7 that is arranged on the sagittal plane thereof: thehole 11 is parallel to the direction of translational motion (entry and exit) of thebolt 7. - The
hole 11 and oneend 12 of thepivot 9 lead to aunit 13 for retracting thebolt 7. - With reference to the embodiment of the detail A of
Figure 1 shown inFigure 2 , the means for mechanical deactivation of thepivot 9 comprise astem 14, which is contained entirely in thehole 11 and can slide therein. In thestem 14, the end that faces outward is provided with elements for detachable coupling with ahead 15, the portion of which that protrudes from the front of thebolt 7 constitutes theactual pivot 9. - Removal of the
head 15 from thestem 14 determines the mechanical deactivation of thepivot 9, since no action applied from the outside of thebolt 7 affects theretraction unit 13, and therefore no external action can determine the retraction of thebolt 7. - It should be noted that in order to produce low-cost components with a high quality standard, the elements for coupling the
stem 14 to thecorresponding head 15 are constituted by a threaded hole (provided on the top of the stem 14): accordingly, thehead 15 of thepivot 9 comprises a respective shank, whose dimensions and shape are complementary to those of the hole, which can be screwed into such hole. - If the
head 15 of thepivot 9 is removed from the threaded hole, it is possible to provide a suitable plug whose dimensions and shape are complementary to those of the hole in order to close it detachably; in this manner, it is not possible to access theunit 13 in any way, not even by using break-in tools. It is convenient to provide on the top of the pivot 9 (therefore on the head 15) a suitable contoured recess for actuation (screwing and unscrewing) by means of a specific tool. - With reference to the embodiment of the detail A of
Figure 1 shown inFigure 3 , the means for mechanical deactivation of thepivot 9 comprise apin 16, which can perform a translational motion in atransverse receptacle 17 of thebolt 7. - The
receptacle 17 is open in a lower region and therefore leads to thehole 11 that accommodates thepivot 9. - The
pin 16 can perform a translational motion, by way of external action, from a free configuration for thepivot 9, in which it is accommodated completely in thereceptacle 17, to a locking configuration of thepivot 9, in which its end protrudes from thereceptacle 17 in thehole 11, interfering with thepivot 9 and locking it in thehole 11 by mechanical forcing. - In particular, it is possible to provide the
pivot 9 by adopting different levels of diameter and constituting a shoulder therein: with this constructive choice, in addition to preventing the unintended extraction of the pivot from the hole 11 (it is sufficient for it to have a diameter that tapers at the front edge of thebolt 7 to utilize the shoulder of thepivot 9 as a stop element), the locking of thepivot 9 in the chosen configuration is ensured, maintaining the shoulder upstream or downstream of thepin 16 that protrudes from thereceptacle 17. - With reference to the embodiment of the detail A of
Figure 1 shown inFigure 4 , thehole 11 comprises a suitablecontoured region 18 at theretraction unit 13 and the means for mechanical deactivation of thepivot 9 comprise ashaft 19, which is contained entirely in thehole 11 and can slide therein and is provided at its innermost end with an eccentric block 20, which is jointly connected to thepivot 9 on the opposite side with respect to its portion that protrudes from thebolt 7. - The
pivot 9 can rotate about its own axis. - The eccentric block 20 can move between one configuration, in which the
pivot 9 is active for the retraction of thebolt 7, for coupling with arespective recess 21 formed in theretraction unit 13 at thecontoured region 18 of thehole 11, and a configuration in which thepivot 9 is passive and is not associated with theretraction unit 13 of thebolt 7, for freedom of movement of thepivot 9 and of the block 20 with respect to theretraction unit 13. - In this case, the
pivot 9 comprises, in its portion that protrudes from thebolt 7,suitable grip areas 22 for a tool that is suitable for turning thepivot 9 and therefore theshaft 19 jointly connected thereto. - The eccentric block 20 exits and reenters the
recess 21 provided in theretraction unit 13 as a consequence of rotations of thepivot 9 performed with the tool engaged in therespective grip area 22. - The
bolt 7 comprises at least one suitabletransverse dowel 23, which is accommodated within a respective pocket 27 of thebolt 7 that interferes with theshaft 19 to lock it. - It has thus been shown that the invention achieves the proposed aim and objects.
- The invention thus conceived is susceptible of numerous modifications and variations, which are within the scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
- In the exemplary embodiments shown, individual characteristics, given in relation to specific examples, may actually be interchanged with other different characteristics that exist in other exemplary embodiments.
- In practice, the materials used, as well as the shapes and dimensions, may be any according to requirements without thereby abandoning the scope of the protect as defined by the appended claims.
- Where technical features mentioned in any claim are followed by reference signs, those reference signs have been included for the sole purpose of increasing the intelligibility of the claims and accordingly such reference signs do not have any limiting effect on the interpretation of each element identified by way of example by such reference signs.
