Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an inhalation device that has a mechanism providing a capsule perforation process which needs a specific force, to be done in every condition in order to facilitate inhalation of dry powder drug, which is kept in a penetrable capsule.
  • Pharmaceuticals which can be inhaled are generally used to treat diseases in bronchial or pulmonary region such as asthma or chronic bronchitis.
  • breath activating devices wherein the delivery of dry powder drug to the air passage is provided.
  • dry powder inhalator devices operate via loading of capsule comprising dry powder drug into the device, perforation of the capsule via compression or with needles and delivering dry powder to pulmonary region via breathing.
  • beta-2 -agonists corticosteroids
  • antibiotics antimuscarinic, antiallergic or anticholinergic agents for treating of pulmonary diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
  • Mechanism according to the invention provides perforation of dry powder capsules with needles and delivery of dry powder drug particles via the pressure that is created via breathing, from the capsule to the lung.
  • perforation of the drug capsules is required to be done via needles by getting in and out of the capsule or via other techniques.
  • breaking or perforation process of capsule comprising the dry powder drug that is present in device
  • the patient population wherein the device comprising the mechanism is used includes the children and elderly patients.
  • perforation process is mechanically made via compression of capsule with hands and fingers. These known techniques are designed in such a way that the compression force is standart for all the patients including elderly and children. Adults can easily perform perforation process of capsule, but children and elderly may not be able to apply enough force. As a result, the needles cannot perforate the capsule sufficiently; and adequate drug dose fails to reach to pulmonary region.
  • the present invention relates to an inhalation device that has a mechanism providing a capsule perforation process which needs a specific force, to be done in every condition in order to facilitate inhalation of dry powder drug, which is kept in a penetrable capsule.
  • Needle compression force in the invented device mechanism is provided via opening-closing movement of collapsible inhalation shaft.
  • the applied force is low, in and out movement of needles into the capsule becomes a standard motion, since the mechanism of the present invention depends on lever mechanism.
  • the only essential step during usage of this device is not to forget to load the capsule. Once the capsule is loaded to the device, inhalation cannot be done until the inhalation shaft is closed. Once inhalation shaft is closed, needles get in and out of capsule and the device is made ready for inhalation by patients.
  • the same mechanism works automatically again while the inhalation shaft is opened in order to dispose empty capsule; it enables the capsule to be dislodged and to be discharged easily.
  • Figure 1 is an explosive view of the device according to the invention
  • Figure 2 is side view of the device according to the invention are given
  • the mechanism according to the invention consists of eleven components that are listed below and depicted in figure- 1 and figure-2 in detail:
  • the proposed mechanism is encapsulated within in two main caps; top and bottom cover in order to maintain the mechanism decent while being carried in a pocket and to facilitate handheld.
  • Exterior surface of the inhalation shaft (4) is designed compatible to the mouth shape for sucking and it is related to Inhalation Chamber (9) together with Filter that is present within the inhalation shaft. As the inhalation shaft (4) opens; the inhalation chamber (9) is opened simultaneously.
  • the knuckle Pin (10) keeps these three groups together and enables (allows) the caps to be open.
  • the top cover is opened in order to load the capsule.
  • Inhalation shaft is uplifted, until the capsule chamber can be seen.
  • Drug capsule loaded into the capsule chamber.
  • two toothed tracks that are present on the inhalation shaft, drive the toothed rod. Toothed rod pushes needle and spring holder in order to pierce the capsule.
  • the toothed rod disengages as the inhalation shaft is completely closed. Releasing of the spring at the opposite direction removes the needle and the spring holder back, sets up the mechanism and makes the dry powder drug ready for inhalation.
  • inhalation shaft is opened and simultaneously, system starts to work again. Needles get in and out of empty capsule once again. This process dislodges empty capsule. Empty capsule is taken easily from chamber and discharged.
  • the device having the mechanism according to the invention is preferably used for inhalation of drugs such as beta-2agonists, corticosteroids, anti-cholinergic agents, antimuscarinics, antiallergics and antibiotics, for the treatment of pulmonary diseases or local treatment of pulmonary diseases like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases.
  • drugs such as beta-2agonists, corticosteroids, anti-cholinergic agents, antimuscarinics, antiallergics and antibiotics, for the treatment of pulmonary diseases or local treatment of pulmonary diseases like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases.
