Description

The invention relates to an energy absorption device by deformation, in particular for a motor vehicle seat in the event of an impact, and an assembly comprising two energy absorption devices.

More precisely, the invention relates to an energy absorption device of the type comprising:
  • a plate of substantially constant thickness comprising at least a first cutout and a second cutout separated by a bridge, and
  • a rod extending through the first cutout.

Un dispositif d'absorption d'énergie de ce type est usuellement connu et notamment divulgué dans le document US2004/0061364 .An energy absorption device of this type is usually known and in particular disclosed in the document US2004 / 0061364 .

DE 10 2004 032 785 describes a device according to the preamble of claim 1.

The invention aims to reduce the cost and improve the robustness of this type of absorption device.

To do this, according to the invention, the bridge has at the edge of at least one of the cutouts a collar having at least locally a thickness greater than the thickness of the plate, the rod being able to deform the bridge to 'when it breaks.

The term “collar” will be understood to mean a zone of curved material, here a zone of the material of the plate. Thus, the plate is reinforced at the level of the collar, and consequently its thickness can be reduced. The material cost is thus reduced, as is the weight of the device. In addition, said plate can locally serve for the energy absorption device and more generally constitute a flange of the seat structure without generating a material cost or a significant weight of the seat.

According to an additional characteristic, the collar is preferably annular and borders the first cutout. two under the action of the same constraint exerted between the first element and the second element.

Thus, the energy to be absorbed during the impact can be distributed in order to reduce the thickness of the plate of each energy absorption device.

According to an additional characteristic, the energy absorption assembly advantageously has the following characteristics:
  • the second energy absorption device also comprises a rod and a plate, the plate comprising at least a first cutout and a second cutout separated by a bridge, the rod extending through the first cutout,
  • for each energy absorption device, the rod and the plate are integral for one of the first element and for the other of the second element,
  • the bridge of the first energy absorption device opposes the rotation of the second element relative to the first element around the axis of the rod of the second energy absorption device in an energy absorption direction, and
  • the bridge of the second energy absorption device opposes the rotation of the second element relative to the first element around the axis of the rod of the first energy absorption device also in the energy absorption direction .

According to another additional characteristic in accordance with the invention, the first absorption device energy and the second energy absorption device are preferably adapted so that the bridge of the second energy absorption device breaks before the bridge of the first energy absorption device.

The energy absorption is thus more constant and better controlled, especially when the saddles include a slot.

Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description, with reference to the appended drawings in which:
  • the figure 1 illustrates an energy absorption assembly in accordance with the invention,
  • the figure 2 is a view on an enlarged scale of the area marked II on the figure 1 , before shock,
  • the figure 3 is a sectional view along the line marked III-III at the figure 2 ,
  • the figure 4 illustrates the energy absorption assembly according to figure 2 , in the process of absorbing the shock,
  • the figure 5 illustrates the energy absorption assembly according to figure 2 , at the end of shock absorption,
  • the figure 6 illustrates an alternative energy absorption assembly, outside the scope of the invention.

The figures 1 to 5 illustrate a seat 10 for a motor vehicle comprising, at each of its lateral ends, a seat structure flange 6, a backrest structure flange 8, an adapter flange 34 connected to the backrest structure flange 8 by an articulation 36 and an energy absorption assembly 1 interposed between the adapter 34 and the seat structure flange 6.
(also clockwise) around the axis X 2 of the rod 29 of the second energy absorption device 4.

The shape of the second cutout 14, 24 of each energy absorbing device 2, 4 is such that the bridge 16, 26 is narrower at each of its ends, thus creating a rupture initiator at each end of the bridge 16 , 26, which improves the level of effort and reproducibility (consistency of result for a series of devices).

The figure 6 illustrates an alternative embodiment outside the scope of the invention, differing from the embodiment illustrated in figures 1 to 5 in that the bridge of the first energy absorption device 2 and the bridge of the second energy absorption device 4 separating the first cutout 12, 22 from the second cutout 14, 24 comprise two portions 16a, 16b; 26a, 26b separated by a slot 17, 27 connecting the first cutout 12, 22 to the second cutout 14, 24.

The slot 17, 27 being substantially narrower than the rod 19, 29, the movement of the rod 19, 29 of the first energy absorption device 2 and of the second energy absorption device 4 causes the deformation of the portions. 16a, 16b; 26a, 26b of the bridges in a manner similar to what has been described in relation to the figures 4 and 5 .

Thus, for a rod 19, 29 of 12 millimeters in diameter, the slot has a width preferably between 2 millimeters and 6 millimeters.

The positioning of a slot 17, 27 tangentially to the movement of a rod 19, 29 by rotation about the axis X 1 , X 2 of the other rod promotes the rotation of the adapter 34 and of the backrest structure 8 around the axis of the other energy absorption device.
