Definitions
- the present invention relates to the field of cleaning rust on all types of surfaces, including metal surfaces, in particular iron, steel and others. More particularly, the invention relates to the use of alkane sulfonic acid to eliminate rust and rust stains on all types of surfaces, metal or not, and in particular the rust present on metal plates, cables, tubes, pipes , bars, beams and others.
- the invention also relates to a process for removing rust or rust stains present on said surfaces, in particular metal surfaces, in other words a method for cleaning or releasing surfaces covered wholly or partially by rust .
- Iron, and more particularly steel is today widely used in many industries, in the form of cables especially for construction, electrical cables, in the form of plates, tubes, masts, bolts, nuts, nails , springs, in the construction industry (bars, beams and beams, and others), transport (automobiles, trains, airplanes, boats, etc.), or in the form of tubes, pipes, and others for the transport fluids, such as liquids (water, sewage, rainwater, sewage, oil) or gas (natural gas among others), packaging (drums, cans, boxes, and others), utensils, tools, metal furniture.

- Rust formed on the surface of metals can also be deposited by contact on other non-metallic surfaces, thus causing undesirable rust stains on these non-metallic surfaces.
- sulphamic acid the releases of which are also considered harmful to the environment, in particular for aquatic organisms, is not an acid that can be widely used industrially to eliminate rust.
- Nitric acid is also used to eliminate rust from metals.
- nitric acid in addition to its strong "acid" power, nitric acid is a powerful oxidant, and is therefore very rarely used in large quantities, especially for obvious reasons of user safety.
- nitric acid is classified as toxic in the Federal Caustic Poison Act, even in diluted form, for all solutions at concentrations greater than 5%.
- Hydrochloric acid also called muriatic acid
- vapors and fumes are irritating and toxic to the user.
- organic acids such as, for example, acetic, citric, oxalic, glycolic, lactic, formic acids, etc.

- the bottle is closed with a stopper and then placed in a stirred bath for 24 hours at 70 ° C.
- the solution is then cooled and filtered on a membrane filter (Acrodisc ® 25 mm diameter and 0.2 ⁇ m porosity).
- the filtrate is assayed by ICP (emission spectroscopy) to evaluate the iron content in the filtrate. The higher the iron content in the filtrate, the better the effectiveness of the acid for rust removal.
