  • the data stored on a contactless, such as an RFID transponder data are made available via radio waves. At low frequencies, this is done inductively via a near field, at higher frequencies via an electromagnetic far field.
  • An RFID transponder typically includes a microchip and an antenna housed in a carrier or housing or printed on a substrate. Active RFID transponders also have an energy source, such as a battery, in contrast to passive transponders.

  • a face image of the document's wearer is displayed on the display 102.
  • This may be a time-immutable still image or an image sequence, wherein the image sequence includes facial images of the wearer of the document 100 from different views.
  • the document 100 also has an imprint 114 with textual information about the wearer of the document 100. At least a portion of this information may be output via the display 102 by varying the order of actuation of the display elements 103, this output being visualized by a user with the mere Eye is not detectable, but only with the help of a reader (see reader 108 of FIG. 1 ).
  • FIG. 4 FIG. 12 shows another embodiment of the document 100 and the reader 108.
  • the electronic circuit 104 is connected to an interface 124 of the document 100 for communicating with the reader 108.
  • the interface 124 may include one or more antenna turns extending in an edge region of the document 100.
  • the electronic memory 126 serves to store sensitive data 127.
  • the sensitive data 127 may be, for example, biometric data of the carrier of the document 100, such as fingerprint data, iris scan data, or the like.
  • the vulnerable data 127 is stored in a specially protected memory area of the memory 126.
  • the circuit 104 further includes a processor 128 for executing program instructions 130 by which the steps of a cryptographic protocol relating to the document 100 are implemented.
  • the processor 128 also serves to execute the program instructions 131 which implement a control program.
  • the reader 108 has an optical sensor 110 for detecting the image reproduction of the display 102 and for receiving the information 107 sent from the display 102.
  • the optical sensor 110 may be a CCD sensor or a scanner.
  • the reader 108 further has an interface 132 corresponding to the interface 124 of the document 100.
  • the interface 132 is designed for RFID communication with the document 100 or its circuit 104.
  • the reader 108 has at least one processor 134 for executing a control program 136 as well as program instructions 138, by means of which the steps of the cryptographic protocol concerning the reader 108 are implemented.
  • the reader 108 may also be used to execute an application program 140.
  • the application program 140 may also be executed by another computer system connected to the reader 108.
  • the control program of the document 100 implemented by the program instructions 131 is designed such that it drives the driver circuit 122 to display the data 106.
  • the information 107 determines the chronological sequence of the control of the display elements of the display 102, as a result of which the information 107 is sent to the reading device 108.
  • the reading device 108 To access the data 127 of the memory 126, the reading device 108 first acquires the display 102 by means of its optical sensor 110. For this purpose, the sensor 110 is controlled accordingly by the control program 136. The control program 136 decodes the order of driving the display elements detected by the sensor 110 so as to receive the information. In this way, the control program 136 gets knowledge of the cryptographic key.
  • control program 136 Upon detection of the cryptographic key, the control program 136 starts execution of the program instructions 138 so that the cryptographic protocol is performed between the reader 108 and the document 100 using the cryptographic key.
  • the cryptographic protocol is a challenge-response method.
  • the challenge-response method can, for example, run so that the reader 108 first sends a request for the data to the interface 124 of the document 100. Thereafter, the execution of the program instructions 130 is started. This is on the part of the document 100 z. B. generates a random number that is symmetrically encrypted with a reference value of the cryptographic key, so that a ciphertext results. The encrypted random number, i. the ciphertext is sent from the interface 124 of the document 100 to the interface 132 of the reader 108.
  • the reader 108 decrypts the ciphertext received from the document 100 using the previously received cryptographic key.
  • the result of the decryption is sent from the interface 132 to the interface 124 of the document 100.
  • the program instructions 130 it is then checked by the document 100 whether the result of the decryption of the cipher which has received the document from the reader 108 is identical to the random number initially generated by the document 100. If so, the reference value of the cryptographic key included in or accessible to the program instructions 130 matches the cryptographic key captured from the image display of the display 102 by the reader 108, thereby increasing the authenticity of the document 100 and the access authorization of the reader 108 is given.
  • the senor 110 may be formed as a so-called time-gated CCD sensor.
  • the electronic circuit 104 is designed such that before the start of each image repetition period, a trigger signal, for example, is sent from the interface 124 to the interface 132 of the reader 108. This can be done by executing the program instructions 131. Due to this trigger signal, the optical detection of the display 102 is started by the sensor 110.
  • the detection period is chosen so that it corresponds to the length of a refresh period.
