  • direct mode is used when the system identifies that it has been placed in the corner of the room or when the correlation for all of the candidate beams is very small. In direct mode, the candidate beam nevertheless having the largest correlation is chosen for the two surround sound channels and the focal length of each is set to be one half of the corresponding path length.
  • the centre channel is set to have a focal length of -0.5 m and the other channels are set to have a focal length corresponding to one half of their path length. This ensures a reasonable degree of dispersion at the listening position.

Claims (15)

  1. Procédé d'installation d'un système de haut-parleurs comprenant un ensemble de transducteurs de sortie capables de générer plusieurs faisceaux acoustiques dirigés, ledit procédé comprenant :
    - l'émission d'un signal de test sous la forme d'un faisceau acoustique dirigé depuis le système de haut-parleurs dans une pièce ;
    - la détection d'une réflexion dudit signal de test sous forme de faisceau acoustique en un endroit de ladite pièce ; et
    - la détermination d'un instant de corrélation maximale entre ledit signal de test sous forme de faisceau acoustique émis et ledit signal de test sous forme de faisceau acoustique réfléchi.
  2. Procédé selon la revendication 1, dans lequel ledit instant de corrélation maximale est utilisé pour calculer une longueur de chemin pour ledit faisceau acoustique dirigé et dans lequel ledit instant de corrélation maximale est obtenu en effectuant une convolution du signal de test réfléchi détecté audit endroit de la pièce avec le signal de test émis et en déterminant le moment auquel ladite corrélation maximale se produit.
  3. Procédé selon la revendication 1 ou 2, dans lequel ledit procédé est répété pour une pluralité d'angles et l'amplitude de la corrélation maximale entre ledit signal de test sous forme de faisceau acoustique émis et ledit signal de test sous forme de faisceau acoustique réfléchi est déterminée pour chacun de ladite pluralité d'angles, le signal de test étant sous la forme d'un faisceau acoustique dirigé que l'on balaie sur une plage d'angles et ledit procédé comprenant en outre le fait de mémoriser, pour chaque angle d'émission dudit signal de test sous forme de faisceau acoustique dirigé, l'instant de ladite corrélation maximale et de préférence aussi l'amplitude de ladite corrélation maximale.
  4. Procédé selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, dans lequel :
    une direction de faisceau acoustique pour un canal central est choisie comme étant la direction pour laquelle une corrélation maximale existe entre ledit signal de test sous forme de faisceau acoustique émis et un signal de test sous forme de faisceau acoustique directement reçu audit endroit dans ladite pièce ;
    une direction de faisceau acoustique pour un canal acoustique gauche est choisie, laquelle direction correspond à l'angle auquel il y a la plus grande amplitude de crête de corrélation maximale parmi tous les angles essayés à gauche du canal central ; et
    une direction de faisceau acoustique pour un canal acoustique droit est choisie, laquelle direction correspond à l'angle auquel il y a la plus grande amplitude de crête de corrélation maximale parmi tous les angles essayés à droite du canal central.
  5. Procédé selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, dans lequel :
    une direction de faisceau acoustique pour le canal acoustique d'ambiance gauche est choisie, laquelle direction correspond à un angle auquel il y a une amplitude de crête de corrélation maximale à gauche du canal central et laquelle direction a un plus petit angle de faisceau et un plus grand temps de corrélation maximale que la direction choisie pour le canal acoustique gauche ; et
    une direction de faisceau acoustique pour le canal acoustique d'ambiance droit est choisie, laquelle direction correspond à un angle auquel il y a une amplitude de crête de corrélation maximale à droite du canal central et laquelle direction a un plus petit angle de faisceau et un plus grand temps de corrélation maximale que la direction choisie pour le canal acoustique droit.
  6. Procédé selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, comprenant en outre :
    la détermination d'une pluralité de directions de faisceau candidates pour les canaux acoustiques d'ambiance et l'attribution d'un coefficient de qualité à chaque candidat ;
    dans lequel le coefficient de qualité est déterminé en multipliant la valeur de corrélation maximale pour l'angle de faisceau par la longueur de chemin de faisceau ;
    dans lequel un faisceau candidat est écarté, de préférence en établissant le coefficient de qualité à zéro, si l'une quelconque des conditions suivantes (a) à (e) existe :
    (a) l'amplitude de corrélation maximale pour la direction de faisceau candidate est inférieure à un pourcentage prédéterminé de l'amplitude de corrélation maximale pour la direction de faisceau du canal central ;
    (b) le faisceau candidat a un plus grand angle et un plus grand temps de corrélation maximale qu'un canal acoustique gauche ou droit déjà choisi ;
    (c) le faisceau candidat a un plus petit angle et un plus petit temps de corrélation maximale qu'un canal acoustique gauche ou droit déjà choisi ;
    (d) le faisceau candidat et un faisceau candidat déjà déterminé ont un temps de corrélation maximale dans les limites d'une valeur prédéterminée l'un de l'autre et le faisceau candidat et ledit faisceau candidat déjà déterminé ont un angle d'émission se trouvant dans les limites d'une valeur prédéterminée l'un de l'autre ;
    (e) le faisceau candidat est dirigé dans une direction où la longueur de chemin pour des angles adjacents diffère d'une valeur prédéterminée de la longueur de chemin du faisceau candidat,
    et dans lequel la direction de faisceau candidate ayant le plus grand coefficient de qualité est choisie pour un canal acoustique d'ambiance.
  7. Procédé selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, dans lequel, si l'angle entre le canal acoustique gauche identifié et le canal acoustique droit identifié est inférieur à un angle prédéterminé, on établit un "mode d'angle" pour le système de haut-parleurs ; et
    quand un "mode d'angle" est établi, le canal acoustique gauche et le canal acoustique droit sont émis dans le "mode direct" ; et
    dans lequel, dans le "mode direct", le canal acoustique gauche et le canal acoustique droit sont dirigés dans la même direction que le canal acoustique central.
  8. Procédé d'émission de sons d'ambiance, ledit procédé comprenant les opérations suivantes :
    exécuter un procédé comprenant le procédé de l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes ;
    déterminer des angles d'émission de faisceau respectivement pour un canal central, gauche, droit, gauche d'ambiance et droit d'ambiance ;
    émettre des faisceaux acoustiques représentant lesdits canaux respectifs dans des directions données par lesdits angles respectifs.
  9. Dispositif d'émission de sons, ledit dispositif comprenant :
    un ensemble de transducteurs de sortie ;
    un transducteur d'entrée ; et
    un contrôleur programmé pour :
    faire émettre par ledit ensemble un signal de test sous la forme d'un faisceau acoustique dirigé dans une pièce ;
    recevoir un signal dudit transducteur d'entrée qui correspond à au moins une réflexion dudit signal de test sous forme de faisceau acoustique ; et
    déterminer un instant de corrélation maximale entre ledit signal de test sous forme de faisceau acoustique émis et ledit signal de test sous forme de faisceau acoustique réfléchi reçu.
  10. Dispositif selon la revendication 9, dans lequel ledit transducteur d'entrée est un microphone omnidirectionnel destiné à être placé au niveau de la position d'écoute.
  11. Dispositif selon la revendication 9 ou 10, dans lequel ledit contrôleur est adapté pour balayer ledit faisceau acoustique dirigé sur une plage d'angles et pour déterminer l'amplitude de la corrélation maximale entre ledit signal de test sous forme de faisceau acoustique émis et ledit signal de test sous forme de faisceau acoustique réfléchi pour chaque angle de ladite plage, ledit dispositif comprenant en outre une mémoire pour mémoriser, pour chaque angle d'émission dudit signal de test sous forme de faisceau acoustique dirigé, l'instant de ladite corrélation maximale et aussi l'amplitude de ladite corrélation maximale.
  12. Dispositif selon l'une quelconque des revendications 9 à 11, dans lequel ledit contrôleur est adapté pour sélectionner une direction de faisceau acoustique pour un canal central, laquelle direction de faisceau pointe dudit système de haut-parleurs directement vers ledit endroit dans ladite pièce.
  13. Dispositif selon l'une quelconque des revendications 9 à 12, dans lequel ledit contrôleur est adapté pour sélectionner l'angle pour au moins l'un des canaux acoustiques d'ambiance d'après l'instant de corrélation maximale déterminé.
  14. Dispositif selon l'une quelconque des revendications 9 à 13, dans lequel le contrôleur est adapté pour identifier les angles pour lesquels il existe une crête de corrélation maximale.
  15. Dispositif selon l'une quelconque des revendications 9 à 14, dans lequel ledit contrôleur est adapté pour faire passer le système de haut-parleurs en "mode direct" si :
    l'amplitude de crête de corrélation maximale pour le canal acoustique gauche est inférieure à un pourcentage prédéterminé de l'amplitude de crête de corrélation maximale pour le canal central ; et/ou
    l'amplitude de crête de corrélation maximale pour le canal acoustique droit est inférieure à un pourcentage prédéterminé de l'amplitude de crête de corrélation maximale pour le canal central.
