  4. Method according to claim 3, characterised in that the quantity Mp is selected as a function of an association, stored in the program controller, between the quantity Mp and a load quantity with laundry and/or a type of laundry.
  5. Method according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that in step (a), water present in part or exclusively in the water tank (16) is routed into the outer tub (1).
  6. Method according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that following a washing process a wash liquor is pumped out of the outer tub (1) using the first pump (17) for drainage purposes.
  7. Method according to one of claims 1 to 6, characterised in that in step (b) the drum (2) is rotated with a speed of 10 to 50 rpm for a few seconds or minutes.
  8. Washing machine having a program controller (12), a drum (2) mounted rotatably in an outer tub (1), a sensor (15) for determining a height h and/or a hydrostatic pressure p of an aqueous liquid located in the outer tub (1), wherein the washing machine comprises a water tank (16) and a first pump (17) arranged between the water tank (16) and the outer tub (1) and the program controller (12) is designed to carry out a method for treating laundry, in which method, in a wetting phase:
    a) a quantity Mo of water is conveyed into the outer tub (1) until a predetermined height hset and/or a predetermined hydrostatic pressure pset is reached, characterised in that
    (b) after a predetermined time t set1 and a predetermined number nset of rotations of the drum (2), a quantity MI of free water present in the outer tub (1) is pumped into the water tank (16); and
    (c) the quantity MI of free water pumped into the water tank (16), the ratio MI / Mo and/or a temporal gradient (Δh/Δt) for the height h of the aqueous liquid and/or a temporal gradient (Δp/Δt) for the hydrostatic pressure p is evaluated in order to determine a load quantity with laundry and/or a type of laundry.
  9. Washing machine according to claim 8, characterised in that the first pump (17) is also arranged between the outer tub (1) and a drain outlet (18).
  10. Washing machine according to claim 8, characterised in that a second pump (20) is arranged between the outer tub (1) and a drain outlet (18).
