Definitions
- the invention relates to a method and a device for producing printed products, in which stapled brochures consisting of a number of folded sheets and each having a back are fed to a back-processing device and the backs of the brochures are formed in the back-processing device.
- the US-A-5,678,813 discloses a method by which stapled printed matter can be made by bonding a booklet stapled from the inside to the outside with a booklet stapled from outside to inside.
- This production method has the advantage that the staple legs lie inside and are covered by the other brochure. Since the product back is not formed in this process, no flat, usable for labeling the printed product front page can be provided. In addition, the printed products produced by this method do not have a high-quality appearance because on their back staples are visible. Finally, the process is relatively expensive.
- the EP-A-1 479 528 describes a device for collecting, stapling and pressing of printed sheets.
- back side pressing jaws such as a front-side pressure roller are used.
- Reshaping can create a square spine that provides additional print area for captions such as title, subject, author, volume number, and so forth.
- Such printed matter can be placed in a bookshelf and easily identified on the label applied to its back. In addition, they can be pitched up to their backs, so they do not anymore strike by itself.
- the printed matter produced by this process have a higher quality appearance than stapled in the usual way printed products, but their production is much more expensive and therefore more expensive.
- the reshaping of the product takes place at a standstill, which is a great disadvantage in achieving high production rates.
- the EP-A-1 690 696 discloses a method and apparatus for squeezing enveloped and stitched printed matter on a saddle stitcher.
- the pressing of the back takes place within the saddle stitcher, in a back-processing device arranged downstream of the stitching station.
- the method also does not provide a flat, usable for labeling purposes front of the back. Since the staples are also visible on the back, the printed products produced by this method do not have a high-quality appearance.
- the US 2 068 603 forms a device or a method according to the preamble of claim 1 or of claim 11.
- the invention has for its object to provide a method and an apparatus of the type mentioned, which avoid the disadvantages mentioned.
- the object is achieved in a generic method in that the brochures after the forming of the back each supplied an envelope, either applied to the envelope or the formed back glue, the envelope with the respective brochure connected to a printed product and the printed product from the back processing device is performed.
- the spine processing device has a forming device, a glue station and means for applying an envelope to the brochure.
- reshaping, glueing and bonding of the envelope to the brochure in the spine processing apparatus is performed independently of any preceding or subsequent process steps of producing the printed products, for which the spine processing apparatus is formed as an independent module. Therefore, the spine processing apparatus may advantageously be used both separately and in combination with various apparatuses for producing printed products.
- the folded sheets are placed on a transporting and stitching line of a saddle stitcher, collected and stapled to the brochure with a stapling machine.
- the printed matter produced in the spine processing apparatus is fed to a cutting machine after being cut from the spine processing apparatus and cut there.
- the spine processing device is thus part of a saddle stitcher and arranged between its stapling and cutting machine.
- the printed product is trimmed in the cutting machine, regardless of whether the product back has been reshaped or not.
- the inventive method allows the use of a conventional and known saddle stitcher, while the inventive device allows the retrofitting and expansion of a known saddle stitcher. In both cases, the saddle stitcher essentially does not need to be changed. Since the back machining steps outside of the saddle stitcher can be carried out in a separate module, the method is also more reliable.
- the processing process taking place in the spine processing device is optionally switched on, ie the spine processing device can be connected to the saddle stitcher or can be switched off by the saddle stitcher. Because the forming of the spine as well as the application of the cover can be performed or suppressed as required, this method and the corresponding device advantageously results in a higher flexibility in the production of printed products. With the saddle stitcher Thus, the usual stapled brochures or alternatively the high-quality, stapled printed products can be produced.
- the machining process in the back-processing device is switched on or suppressed with product accuracy at the production speed of the saddle stitcher. For an exact interaction of saddle stitcher and spine processing device and a corresponding quality of the printed products is ensured.
- the working steps in the independent back-processing device take place in the course, i. the forming, the gluing and the application of the envelope are carried out continuously.
- the products must therefore not be stopped during processing and restarted.
- a significantly higher production capacity and also a gentle transport is possible.
- the spine processing device is connected via a switch with a transport path of the saddle stitcher, so that the stapled brochure of the spine processing device is supplied via the switch.
- the switch allows a bypass of the spine processing device in a kind of bypass.
- the stapled brochure can therefore be promoted by means of the switch either in the spine processing device, formed there, glued and provided with an envelope or directly transported without these processing steps and be trimmed directly in the cutting machine for example. This results in a higher flexibility of the production plant. Regardless of whether or not the processing steps of forming, gluing and enveloping have been carried out, the direction of transport and the position of the printed product at the outlet of the back-processing device are identical.
- the brochure is erected before forming in a direction change and Aufrichtrow and laterally aligned.
- the spine of the brochure is formed into a substantially angular spine.
- the envelope is then glued on the square back and pressed accordingly.
- the resulting printed product likewise has a substantially angular spine which has either been correspondingly printed or inscribed prior to the supply of the envelope for the associated brochure or is available for subsequent labeling.
- the processed printed product is shifted in the original transport direction and product position and reinserted into the transport path of the saddle stitcher.
- the spine processing device successively fed brochures of different composition, the brochures processed in the spine processing device to correspondingly different printed products and these are executed from the spine processing device.
- the combination of saddle stitcher and spine processing device is extremely flexible and can also be used for further processing after a digital printing press.
- the invention also relates to a saddle stitcher with a switched spine processing device.
- the FIG. 1 shows a collection line 1, which has a plurality of feeders 2 in a conventional manner, which are arranged along a transport and stitching line 3 of a saddle stitcher 4 and with each of which a folding sheet 5 (Fig. Fig. 4 ) is deductible from a stack, not shown here and on the transport and stapling line 3 can be dropped.
- the folded sheets 5, also called signatures, can thereby be converted into a brochure 6 (FIG. Fig. 3 ) to be collected.
- FIG. 1 is indicated by arrows a right-to-left direction of transport 7.
- the brochures 6 are conveyed further in a transporting direction 7 in a stapling machine 8 known per se and in each case at its back 9 with at least one staple 10 (FIG. Fig. 4 ) Mistake.
- a cutting machine 11 is arranged, which may also be formed as usual and which is for example a three-knife trimmer. With such a cutting machine 11, a head, foot and front section can be performed on a printed product.
- a spine processing device 13 is connected in the paper process of the saddle stitcher 4, in which a leaflet 6 stapled in the stapling machine 8 to a in FIG. 4 shown printed product 14 can be further processed.
- the printed product 14 has a plurality of folded sheets 5 held together by staples 10 and shaped into a substantially angular shape.
- an envelope 15 is attached on the outside of the outermost signature sheet 5 of the brochure 6 .
- glue 16 is applied in the form of a glue layer to the outermost folding sheet 5 and / or the envelope 15, with which the envelope 15 at least a part and advantageously over the entire length of the back 9 of the brochure 6 is connected to this.
- the glue layer shown as U-shaped side andcriticalbeleimung is conceivable as a pure back or side gluing.
- the printed product 14 By attaching the envelope 15 to the square shaped brochure 6 results in the printed product 14 also has a back 9 ', as in Fig. 4 can be seen substantially rectangular and with two parallel and spaced apart edges 17 is formed.
- the imprint or the label takes place already during the production of the envelope 15 or immediately thereafter.
- the printed product 14 can also be labeled on the back 9 'only after the envelope 15 and the brochure 6 have been joined together.
- the printed product 14 can thus be placed in a bookshelf in a manner similar to a book and identified there on the basis of the information applied on the back 9 '.
- the spine processing device 13 has according to FIG. 2 a U-shaped or loop-shaped transport device 19, with an entrance area 19a and an exit area 19b, on which a stapled brochure 6 in a first transport direction 20 initially led away from the transport path 12, then further processed to a printed product 14 and finally as a printed product 14 in a second Transport direction 21 and is returned by means of a display 22 back to the transport path 12.
- the transport device 19 may also have another suitable shape.
- the corresponding steps for further processing are carried out in a continuous manner, so that the booklet 6 to be processed in the spine processing device 13 neither has to be stopped nor accelerated again.
- the components of the spine processing device 13 described in detail below are arranged in series one behind the other.
- the transport path 12 of the saddle stitcher 4 is connected to the input area 19a of the transport device 19 via a switch 23.
- the switch 23 can be adjusted so that a stapled Brochure 6 either the spine processing device 13 or via the used in this case as a kind of bypass transport path 12 is fed directly to the cutting machine 11.
- the changeover of the switch 23 takes place, for example, stationary saddle stitcher 4 as a mode changeover. Also conceivable is a coordinated with the machine cycle conversion of the switch 23 at full production speed.
- a direction change and Aufrichtumble 24 is arranged, in which the discharged via the switch 23 from the transport path 12 leaflet 6 is preferably placed vertically, with her back 9 is below.
- the transport direction of the brochure 6 is changed, for example by about 90 °.
- the brochure 6 previously conveyed on the transport path 12 in a transport direction 25 is thus conveyed essentially in the transport direction 20 of the transport device 19 after the direction change and erecting path 24.
- the brochure 6 is fed to a forming device 26 and reshaped in its back region so that this, as in Fig. 4 shown is angular.
- Such forming devices 26 are known per se and have, for example, roles not shown here, between which the brochure 6 is conveyed through. In order to ensure a continuous further processing of the brochures 6, these rollers are arranged, for example, successively and with ever decreasing distance from each other.
- the forming device 26 is a known per se, for example, equipped with a glue roller or Leimdüse size 27 is arranged, in which the angularly shaped back 9 of the brochure 6 is provided with the glue 16.
- the glue 16 is applied to the flat end face 18 of the outermost signature sheet 5, which is formed in the forming device 26, and optionally to a short section on the two side faces.
- glue stations are also known to the person skilled in the art.
- the glue can be applied for example by means of a glue roller or a glue nozzle.
- the envelope 15 can be glued on its inside just before merging with the brochure 6.
- a curling drum 28 is arranged. With this one each by means of a known, not shown cover feeder to the transport device 19 supplied envelope 15, rolled up on the deformed spine 9 of the brochure 6.
- the envelope 15 may be previously grooved to achieve a defined point of break at the edges 17. The distance between the two grooves depends on the thickness of the brochure 6.
- Anrolltrommel 28 is also a known per se, equipped with pressure rollers or belts pressing device 29 is arranged, with which the rolled-up envelope 15 is folded over the back 9 of the brochure 6.
- the contact surface of brochure 6 and envelope 15 is pressed and thereby achieved a suitable wetting of the paper surfaces to be joined with the glue 16.
- legs 15a of the envelope 15 are on both sides in the in FIG. 4 shown folded up position. It is conceivable to reverse the order of the unfolding station 30 and the pressing device 29.
- Each of the provided with the envelope 15 brochures 6 existing printed products 14 are deflected in a direction of transport 31 having reversing transport path 32 by about 180 °, where they continue with the back 9 'down.
- the reverse transport path 32 essentially serves to redirect the printed products 14 in the direction of the transport path 12.
- the exact position of the reverse transport path 32 within the processing sequence is not fixed to the described arrangement. For example, it can also be arranged between the shaping device 26 and the glue station 27.
- the exit region 19b of the transport device 19 is provided with a downfeed path 33, on which the printed products 14 provided with the end face 18 are brought into a horizontal position. This is followed by a change of direction of the lying printed products 14 by 90 ° so that they can be transferred to the transport path 12 with the display 22 arranged in front of or in the exit area 19b.
- the printed products 14 are of the Delivery 22 transported so that its back 9 'is always aligned perpendicular to the transport direction 25 of the transport path 12 during transport. Suitable displays 22 are known in the art.
- the printed products 14 of the cutting machine 11 are fed and cut in this at least one side, but advantageously at the top, bottom and front.
- spine processing device 13 ' is substantially the same design as the above-mentioned spine processing device 13, but seen in the transport direction 25 right of the transport path 12.
- a stapled brochure 6 can optionally be transported over the bridge-like transport path 12 and trimmed, for example, in a cutting machine 11, not shown here, or processed in the spine processing device 13 'as explained above. Up to the entrance area 19a, the brochure 6 is transported in a horizontal position. When processing in the spine processing device 13 ', the brochure 6 is brought into a vertical position, wherein the stapled back 9 is below and the brochure 6 in the transport direction 20, that is conveyed substantially perpendicular to the transport direction 25 of the transport path 12.
- the following processing means and processing steps correspond to those of the spine processing device 13.
- the direction of transport 31 shown by an arrow shows the 180 ° directional change in the reverse transport path 32, so that provided with the envelope 15 brochure 6 as printed product 14 again in the direction of the transport path 12th is transported.
- a deflection of the vertically aligned printed products 14 takes place by means of the delivery 22, which are still transported standing after this change of direction.
- the Niederlegehold 33 is disposed downstream of the display 22, placed on the printed matter 14 in a horizontal orientation and finally conveyed to the transport path 12. There, the further transport of the printed products 14 then takes place in the transport direction 25, for example to the cutting machine 11.

The invention has for its object to provide a method and an apparatus of the type mentioned, which avoid the disadvantages mentioned.
The object is achieved in a generic method in that the brochures after the forming of the back each supplied an envelope, either applied to the envelope or the formed back glue, the envelope with the respective brochure connected to a printed product and the printed product from the back processing device is performed. For this purpose, the spine processing device has a forming device, a glue station and means for applying an envelope to the brochure. With this method and the corresponding device can be produced at a comparatively low production cost for the first time on their backs writable and stapled at their backs stapled printed products with a high-quality, adhesive bound books similar appearance.
In one embodiment of the invention, reshaping, glueing and bonding of the envelope to the brochure in the spine processing apparatus is performed independently of any preceding or subsequent process steps of producing the printed products, for which the spine processing apparatus is formed as an independent module. Therefore, the spine processing apparatus may advantageously be used both separately and in combination with various apparatuses for producing printed products.
According to the invention, before the booklet is fed into the spine processing apparatus, with a plurality of investors, the folded sheets are placed on a transporting and stitching line of a saddle stitcher, collected and stapled to the brochure with a stapling machine. The printed matter produced in the spine processing apparatus is fed to a cutting machine after being cut from the spine processing apparatus and cut there. The spine processing device is thus part of a saddle stitcher and arranged between its stapling and cutting machine. The printed product is trimmed in the cutting machine, regardless of whether the product back has been reshaped or not. The inventive method allows the use of a conventional and known saddle stitcher, while the inventive device allows the retrofitting and expansion of a known saddle stitcher. In both cases, the saddle stitcher essentially does not need to be changed. Since the back machining steps outside of the saddle stitcher can be carried out in a separate module, the method is also more reliable.
According to the invention, the processing process taking place in the spine processing device is optionally switched on, ie the spine processing device can be connected to the saddle stitcher or can be switched off by the saddle stitcher.
According to a development of the invention, it is provided that the machining process in the back-processing device is switched on or suppressed with product accuracy at the production speed of the saddle stitcher. For an exact interaction of saddle stitcher and spine processing device and a corresponding quality of the printed products is ensured.
According to a development of the invention, it is provided that the working steps in the independent back-processing device take place in the course, i. the forming, the gluing and the application of the envelope are carried out continuously. The products must therefore not be stopped during processing and restarted. As a result, a significantly higher production capacity and also a gentle transport is possible.
According to the invention it is provided that the spine processing device is connected via a switch with a transport path of the saddle stitcher, so that the stapled brochure of the spine processing device is supplied via the switch. Alternatively, the switch allows a bypass of the spine processing device in a kind of bypass. The stapled brochure can therefore be promoted by means of the switch either in the spine processing device, formed there, glued and provided with an envelope or directly transported without these processing steps and be trimmed directly in the cutting machine for example. This results in a higher flexibility of the production plant. Regardless of whether or not the processing steps of forming, gluing and enveloping have been carried out, the direction of transport and the position of the printed product at the outlet of the back-processing device are identical.
According to a development of the invention it is provided that the brochure is erected before forming in a direction change and Aufrichtstrecke and laterally aligned. In addition, according to a development of the invention, that the spine of the brochure is formed into a substantially angular spine. The envelope is then glued on the square back and pressed accordingly. Advantageously, the resulting printed product likewise has a substantially angular spine which has either been correspondingly printed or inscribed prior to the supply of the envelope for the associated brochure or is available for subsequent labeling. By means of the delivery, the processed printed product is shifted in the original transport direction and product position and reinserted into the transport path of the saddle stitcher.
According to a development of the invention, it is provided that the spine processing device successively fed brochures of different composition, the brochures processed in the spine processing device to correspondingly different printed products and these are executed from the spine processing device. In this way, the combination of saddle stitcher and spine processing device is extremely flexible and can also be used for further processing after a digital printing press.
The invention also relates to a saddle stitcher with a switched spine processing device.
Further advantageous features emerge from the dependent claims, the following description and the drawings.

After the forming
After the

Each of the provided with the
The
Finally, the printed
