The body has a groove (5) that is partially extended on the surfaces of the body and one of the zones. The groove is extended in a plane transversal to the axis of the body, with a depth variable between a depth (P1) at the level of the surfaces and another depth (P2) at the level of the zone, where a ratio of the depths (P1, P2) ranges between zero and value less than or equal to 0.5.

Description

The present invention generally relates to the field of containers, in particular bottles, made of thermoplastic material such as PET (polyethylene terephthalate), and more specifically relates to improvements made to those containers having a body, oriented along an axis. longitudinal section with a wall surrounding the axis defining at least two faces separated from each other by at least two connecting zones, the body being provided with at least one groove extending in part on both sides of said body and on at least one of the two connection areas.

Containers of the specified kind have, when filled, a high rigidity which prevents them from being able to withstand external or internal forces, even if relatively limited. This is the case for example when too many containers are stacked on top of each other (typically bundles of bottles stacked on pallets), which can cause a fold of the wall of plastic material. Even if there is no rupture of the wall and therefore no leakage of liquid, so that the contents of the container can be used, the customer almost systematically rejects containers thus damaged, so they are no longer marketable.

Moreover and above all, when a container of the type in question is filled with a hot liquid and then closed, the air which remains trapped in the container, while cooling, reduces slightly of volume. This is typically the case of containers that are filled in with high-speed filling plants in which the containers are closed well before the hot poured liquid has cooled to room temperature. As a result, the volume shrinkage of the air during cooling places the interior volume of the container under a vacuum condition.

So that the container can withstand this depression without deformation, it must have sufficient mechanical rigidity, which means for example that it has thick walls; in other words, such a container requires an increased amount of raw material and is therefore more expensive, which is not accepted by producers of packaged liquids.

Admittedly, it is known to manufacture containers whose body is specially configured (panel body) to be able to withstand this depression without apparent deformation. However, these specially shaped containers are substantially more expensive than traditional containers. By cons, if the container is insufficiently resistant, it deforms uncontrollably and, again, its poor appearance makes it difficult to market.

Moreover, the keeping in shape of a container in its initial form is all the more difficult when the container comprises a body, oriented along a longitudinal axis with a wall surrounding said axis defining at least two separate faces one of the other by at least two connecting areas (that is, the container has a plurality of faces delimited relative to each other by angular areas defining corners, frankly marked or rounded). By way of example, one could mention a container of form general square that could deform into a diamond shape.

To remedy this problem, it has been proposed to provide at least one groove extending partly on the faces of the body and on the connection areas.

An embodiment of a container 1 with such a transverse groove according to the prior art is illustrated in FIG. figure 1 , the container 1 having a body 2, oriented along a longitudinal axis X, limited at the bottom by a bottom 3 and at the top by a portion comprising a shoulder 4A surmounted by a neck 4B.

A circumferentially closed peripheral groove 5 extending in a plane substantially transverse to the longitudinal axis X of the body 2 is formed in the body 2.

Les figures 2 à 4 représentent différentes formes de réalisation possibles de la cannelure 5 selon une vue supérieure du récipient 1 coupé transversalement au niveau du plan A-A central de la cannelure 5, tel qu'illustré sur la figure 1, le plan A-A passant par le fond de la cannelure 5.The Figures 2 to 4 represent different possible embodiments of the groove 5 in an upper view of the container 1 cut transversely at the central plane AA of the groove 5, as shown in FIG. figure 1 , the plane AA passing through the bottom of the groove 5.

Il faut alors noter que, selon le mode de réalisation illustré à la figure 2, la profondeur P1 est identique à la profondeur P2.According to a first embodiment of the groove 5 illustrated on the figure 2 it will be noted that the body 2, of generally square shape, has four faces 6 separated from each other by a connecting zone 7 forming an angular sector 10 with beveled end. Thus, according to a cross-sectional view of the body 2 of the container 1, the depth P1 separating the outer wall 9 of the body 2 and the bottom 8 of the groove 5 is measured on a straight line transverse to the longitudinal axis X and substantially crossing the middle of the face 6 of the body 2 and the depth P2 separating the outer wall 9 of the body 2 and the bottom 8 of the groove 5 on a line transverse to the longitudinal axis X and substantially through the middle of the connecting zone 7. It should be noted that, according to the embodiment illustrated in FIG. figure 2 , the depth P1 is identical to the depth P2.

However, it has been found that this embodiment does not allow to retain the initial shape of the connection zone 7 as well in the event of shocks in case of hot filling of the container 1.

However, it would be advantageous to keep the initial shape of this connection zone 7 to keep the possibility of later use of the container.

In addition, it would be particularly interesting to make a container in which the deformation range of the container can vary.

A cet effet, la présente invention porte sur un récipient présentant les caractéristiques de la revendication 1.For this purpose, the present invention relates to a container having the features of claim 1.

Advantageously, such a container is adapted to adapt to the constraints of the liquid manufacturing process; said stresses sometimes requiring filling of the container with a liquid having different temperatures.

  • la figure 1 représente une vue schématique d'un récipient selon l'art antérieur ;
  • la figure 2 est une vue de dessus d'une première forme de réalisation d'une cannelure d'un récipient selon l'art antérieur coupé transversalement au niveau de celle-ci ;

The present invention is now described with the aid of purely illustrative and in no way limiting examples of the scope of the invention, and from the attached drawings, in which:
  • the figure 1 is a schematic view of a container according to the prior art;
  • the figure 2 is a top view of a first embodiment of a groove of a container according to the prior art cut transversely at the level thereof;
  • the figure 3 is a perspective view of a first embodiment of a container according to the invention;
  • the figure 4 is a top view of an embodiment of a groove of a container according to the invention cut transversely at the level thereof;

  • the figure 7 is a perspective view of an alternative embodiment of a container whose body has an additional oblong-shaped groove;
  • the figure 8 is a top view of an alternative embodiment of a groove of a container according to the invention cut transversely therealong, and
  • the Figures 9 to 11 represent different views in axial section of several embodiments of the bottom of the groove according to the invention.

The figure 3 illustrates a perspective view of an embodiment of a container 1 according to the invention, in particular bottle, made of thermoplastic material such as PET, comprising a body 2, oriented along a longitudinal axis X, limited at bottom by a bottom 3 and at the top by a shoulder 4A surmounted by a collar 4B.

The body 2 has a wall 9 surrounding the axis X defining at least two faces 6 separated from each other by at least two connecting zones 7, the body 2 being provided with at least one groove 5 extending partly on at least two faces 6 of the body 2 and at least one of the two connecting zones 7.

As it appears more clearly on the Figures 4 and 5 , which represent two cross-sectional views of two possible embodiments of a groove 5 according to the invention, the groove 5 extends substantially in a plane transverse to the X axis of the body with a variable depth between a first depth P1 at the two faces 6 of the body and a second depth P2 at the zone 7 of connection, the ratio P1 / P2 of the two depths being between a zero value (in this case the first depth P1 is zero) and a value less than or equal to 0.5.

More precisely, the value of P1 is zero in the embodiment illustrated on the figures 3 and 4 . In this case, the groove 5, of peripheral extent closed on itself, is interrupted at least punctually in areas 6A of the faces 6 of the container 1.

The groove 5 comprises in this case four groove segments. Each groove segment extends over an angular range α between 40 ° and 80 °. Each angular range α is delimited by two straight lines A and B belonging to a plane transverse to the longitudinal axis X. The lines A and B each pass through the longitudinal axis X and by a point Y belonging both to the tangent to the curve delimiting the bottom 8 in the transverse plane illustrated in FIG. figure 4 , and at the tangent to the curve delimiting the zone 6A in this same plane.

On the figure 4 only two angular ranges α have been shown to simplify the figure.

Dans le mode de réalisation illustré sur la figure 5, la valeur de la profondeur P1 de la cannelure 5 est très faible au niveau des faces 6 du corps 2 et est située dans un rapport selon lequel P1/P2 < 1/2.In the embodiment illustrated on the figure 5 , the value of the depth P1 of the groove 5 is very small at the faces 6 of the body 2 and is located in a ratio according to which P1 / P2 <1/2.

Thus, by the ratio of proportion of these depths P1 and P2, it is achieved a strengthening of the connection areas 7, thanks to which they do not deform as well in case of shocks than following a hot filling In addition, as indicated at the time of the description of embodiments of splines according to the prior art, it is measured the depth P1 between the outer wall 9 of the body 2 and the bottom 8 of the groove 5 on a line transverse to the longitudinal axis X and substantially through the middle of the face 6 of the body 2 and the depth P2 separating the outer wall 9 of the body 2 and the bottom 8 of the groove 5 on a straight line transverse to the longitudinal axis X and substantially through the middle of the connecting zone 7.

In the embodiments of Figures 4 and 5 , the depth 8 of the groove 5 varies with a substantially constant growth rate between the minimum depth value P1 and the maximum depth value P2.

The first derivative of the ratio P2 / P1 is substantially constant and different from 1. Thus, the grooves 5 define a zone 6A of variable deformation of the container 1.

Advantageously, such a container 1 accepts a deformation zone 6A which varies for example according to pressure applied against the walls 9 of the container. Thus, when the pressure applied against the wall 9 is not important, only the zone 6A deforms. On the other hand, when a greater pressure is applied against the wall 9, the zone 6A and a part of the groove segments 5 deform. In particular, the portions of the groove segments which have a shallow depth deform.

The figure 6 is a perspective view of a container 1 comprising two first splines 5A, two second splines 5B, and two third splines 5C formed in six different planes, all transverse to the axis X of the container 1.

The first two grooves 5A extend between the neck 4B and the bottom 3, one near the neck 4B and the other near the bottom 3.

Les deuxièmes cannelures 5B présentent une plage angulaire α" inférieure à la plage angulaire α' des premières cannelures 5A.The two second splines 5B extend between the first two grooves 5A. The second splines 5B have an angular range α "smaller than the angular range α 'of the first splines 5A.

Les troisièmes cannelures 5C présentent une plage angulaire α"' inférieure à la plage angulaire α" des deuxièmes cannelures 5B.Finally, the two third splines 5C extend between the two second splines 5B. The third splines 5C have an angular range α "lower than the angular range α" of the second splines 5B.

The embodiment of the invention illustrated on the figure 7 is similar to the embodiment illustrated on the figure 6 . Identical elements of these embodiments will not be described again.

The face 6 of the container 1 illustrated on the figure 7 further comprises an additional groove 20 of oblong shape whose outer edge is in contact with the ends of the first flutes 5A, the second splines 5B and third splines 5C. In particular, the additional groove 20 has substantially a diamond shape. This additional groove 20 forms a closed loop on the face 6 which extends along the longitudinal axis X and delimits a central deformation zone 21 of the container.

Alternatively, the angular ranges α ', α ", α"' of the first splines 5A, the second splines 5B and the third splines 5C are identical and the additional spline 20 has a substantially rectangular shape.

Preferably, the body 2 of the container 1 has four faces 6 forming generally, in cross-section along the X axis, a substantially square or rectangular section.

However, the connection zone 7 may also have a tapered angular zone (as for the embodiments illustrated in FIGS. Figures 2 to 4 ). Similarly, the connecting zone 7 may be in the form of an angular sector with a pointed vertex (in this case, the second depth P2 of the groove at this connection zone 7 is measured as the distance between the bottom of the groove 5 and the top of this angular sector).

The container 1 according to the invention therefore has at least one groove 5 with a continuously variable depth between a minimum value P1 at the faces 6 of the body 2 and a maximum value P2 at the zone 7 of connection.

The figure 8 represents a cross-sectional view of an alternative embodiment of a spline 5 according to the invention wherein the depth P1 has the same value for the faces 6 of the container 1 which are two by two opposite, the container 1 having a body 2 of generally square shape. Thus, according to this embodiment, the first depth P1 may have different values for the same groove 5, namely a value adapted for each face 6 of the body 2 of the container 1.

It is understood that the preferred embodiment of the invention certainly applies to a container 1 of square or rectangular shape, but that the general principle of the invention applies to any type of container having zones 7 of connection between two adjacent faces 6 and for which it is desired to maintain the shape of this connection zone 7. Thus, the general provisions of the invention also apply to a container having an oval cross-sectional view, the container 1 having in this case strictly two faces 6 and two connecting zones 7.

Furthermore, it should be noted that the general provisions of the invention apply regardless of the shape of the bottom 13 of the groove 5. Thus, the figure 9 is a partial view in axial section of a groove 5 according to the invention with a substantially flat bottom 13, the figure 10 is a partial view in axial section of a groove 5 according to the invention with a substantially rounded bottom 13, while the figure 11 is a partial view in axial section of a groove 5 according to the invention with a bottom 13 with corrugations.

It is understood that the general provisions of the invention apply for grooves extending certainly substantially peripheral, but which are not closed on themselves. In this case, the grooves 5 may extend only on two adjacent faces 6 of a container, on either side of a connecting zone 7 connecting them.
