Abstract

A blocking device is provided for the electric vacuum cleaner having an impurities tank (1) with an inlet opening (2) fitted with a bush (3) to air-tightly fasten the hose end (4), and a filtration receptacle (12), placed inside the impurities tank (1), fitted with a stiff plate (11) with an opening (19) which serves to fix this receptacle on the inner end of the bush (3). The blocking device has a slidable diaphragm (9) which covers the inlet opening (2) of the impurities tank (1) to make it impossible to fix the hose end (4) in the bush (3) if the plate (11) of the filtration receptacle (12) is not correctly installed on the inner end of the bush (3). The correct installing of the filtration receptacle (12) makes the diaphragm (9) move and the inlet opening (2) to be uncovered, which makes it possible to fix the hose end (4) in the bush (3) of the inlet opening (2).

Description

A blocking device for the electric vacuum cleaner
The invention subject-matter is a blocking device for an electric vacuum cleaner to prevent said vacuum cleaner from operating when the filtration bag is not installed in the impurities tank correctly.
The traditional vacuum cleaners have a body with an inlet opening to which a suction hose is connected, which suction hose in turn is connected, via a suction pipe, to various terminals for collecting impurities. The body of the vacuum cleaner has a suction unit connected to the impurities tank. In the impurities tank there are various filtration receptacles the inlets of which are connected to the inlet opening of the vacuum cleaner. The impurities to be sucked by the suction unit, via the suction pipe, the suction hose and the inlet opening of the vacuum cleaner, come, after having been separated from an operating air stream, to be collected in a filtration receptacle. The filtration receptacles, which separate the impurities from the operating air stream, can be in the shape e.g. of a bag or a box made of filtration cloth or filtration paper or they may be cyclone filters. The air stream, after having been cleaned in the filtration receptacle, passes through an electric motor, which constitutes a drive to the suction unit, and plays thereby the role of a cooling medium. The air that passes through the electric motor has to be clean to prevent said electric motor from being damaged. That is why the vacuuming is not allowed if the filtration receptacle is not installed correctly.
In the state of the art there are many solutions designed to prevent the vacuum cleaners from being used when their filtration receptacle is not positioned correctly. In the majority of cases they are devices which do not allow the lid of the filtration receptacle to be closed if in the chamber of the receptacle there is no filtration receptacle installed correctly. There are also electric protections to not allow the start-up of the vacuum cleaner with is filtration receptacle not being installed correctly.
From the Polish patent description PL143543 is known a vacuum cleaner with a blockade of the lid of the impurities tank which blockade makes it impossible to close this lid if the filtration receptacle, in the shape of a paper bag, is not installed correctly. The blockade of the lid, as presented in this solution, is a slidable plate which, in case there is no paper filter, is moved by a spring into the position between the edge of this lid and the edge of the base of the vacuum cleaner. The moment that the paper filter is being installed the blockade is shifted into the inside part of the vacuum cleaner, which makes it possible to install the above mentioned lid correctly. This solution takes a risk of breaking the hinges of the lid in case you try to energetically close the lid being in its blocked state.
Similar solutions to a blockade of the lid blockade of the impurities tank are described in the American patent US5940931. The blockade, according to this solution, is a rotary element placed in the vicinity of where the filtration receptacle is fastened. In case there is no receptacle, the rotary element is being positioned, by means of a spring, between the edge of the lid of the impurities tank and the base of the vacuum cleaner. This makes it impossible to close the lid of the mentioned tank. By installing the filtration receptacle we make the blocking element turn, which makes it possible to close this lid.
Rotary blocking elements used to block the lid of the chamber of the filtration receptacle are also utilized in the solutions described in the patent applications US2006/0016043 and JP2136116. The position of the lid closed correctly and that of the lid in a blocked state differ, in those solutions, minimally so that a user may not see the difference and try to vacuum with no impurities tank in place and with the lid half-opened.
From the specifications of the patents DE343209 and US6217641 are known solutions to secure the vacuum cleaners against their use, when their filtration bag is not installed correctly, by breaking the electric circuit to the suction unit following there being no bag. According to these solutions, the electric switch of a feed current circuit is placed in a fixing place of the filtration bag. The correctly installed bag short-circuits the switch contacts and makes it possible to switch the suction unit on. These solutions need an additional fire protection.
The objective of this invention is to eliminate the above mentioned drawbacks and to make sure the vacuum cleaner will not work if the filtration receptacle is not installed correctly. At the same time, the invention prevents the vacuum cleaner from damaging the suction when it is collecting impurities and the user of the vacuum cleaner from polluting a room he/she is vacuuming.
The blocking device for an electric vacuum cleaner, according to the present invention, has a baffle which covers the inlet opening of the impurities tank to make it impossible to fix the hose end in the bush of the inlet opening if the filtration receptacle is not correctly installed on the inner end of the bush. The correct installation of the filtration receptacle makes the diaphragm move and the inlet opening to be uncovered, which makes it possible to fix the hose end in the inlet opening bush.
The blocking device to be placed inside the impurities tank has a cassette to be fixed, by means of catches, in the handles of the impurities tank, in the vicinity of the inner end of the inlet opening bush.
The cassette has guides I for the diaphragm and guides Il for the plate of the filtration receptacle. The diaphragm, slidable placed in the guides I, is retained, by means of springs, in the position in which it covers the inlet opening of the impurities tank to make it impossible to fix the hose end in the bush.
The guides Il of the plate of the filtration receptacle are placed parallel to the guides I of the diaphragm, the gap of the guides Il of the plate being suited to the width of the plate of the filtration receptacle. The plate of the filtration receptacle, inserted into the guides Il to the limit, moves the diaphragm to uncover the inlet opening and to make it possible to fix the hose end in the bush. At the same time the plate drives the opening edge against the lower edge of the bush rendering said plate blocked in this position.
The invention makes sure that the filtration be installed in a simple, positive way and correctly. The mechanism of the installing of this receptacle, according to the present invention, is not complicated to be utilized and excludes the possibility of mistakes, being simple and cheap at the same time.
The invention as carried out in the example of an embodiment is presented in the drawing, wherein Fig.1 shows a side view of the vacuum cleaner with a broken-out section showing the inlet opening in vertical section, Fig. 2 - the inlet opening as blocked by the diaphragm, in vertical section, Fig. 3 - the vacuum cleaner in top view with a broken-out section showing a fragment of the blocking device, in horizontal section, Fig. 4 - the unblocked inlet opening with the hose end fixed, in vertical section, Fig. 5 - parts of the blocking device in an exploded view, Fig. 6 - the cassette, diaphragm and springs in an exploded view, Fig. 7 - the cassette, diaphragm and springs as seen from the side of the impurities tank, Fig. 8 - the cassette, diaphragm and springs as seen in top view.
The blocking device for an electric vacuum cleaner, which has an impurities tank 1 with an inlet opening 2 equipped with a bush 3 for air-tightly fixing the hose end 4, is placed within said tank in the vicinity of the inner end of the bush 3. The device has a cassette 5 fastened, by means of catches, in the handles 6 of the impurities tank 1 in the vicinity of the inner end of the bush 3. The cassette 5 has guides I 8 for the diaphragm 9 and guides Il 10 for the plate 11 of the filtration receptacle 12, and the seats 13 for the springs 14. The diaphragm 9 slidable fixed in the guides I 8 has protrusions 15 supported on the springs 14 in the seats 13, and claws 16 slidable placed in slots 17 of the cassette 5 to block this diaphragm in the guides I 8 in such a position that it covers the inlet opening 2 of the impurities tank 1 to make it impossible to fix the hose end 4 in the bush 3. The inner end of the bush 3 has in its upper portion a bevel 18 to facilitate the fixing of the plate 11 of the filtration receptacle 12 in the guides Il 10, and in its lower portion an edge to make the opening edge 19 catch the plate 11 , which allows this plate to be blocked in its working position.
In case the filtration receptacle 12 is not correctly installed in the impurities tank, the diaphragm 9, pushed by the springs 14 into its upper extreme position, covers the inlet opening 2 of the impurities tank, making it impossible to fix the hose end 4 in the bush 3.
While being pushed into the guides Il 10, the plate 11 of the filtration receptacle 12 catches the diaphragm 9 and moves it into its lower extreme position. There occurs the uncovering of the inlet opening 2, which allows a suitable fixing of the hose end 4 in the bush 3. At the same time the plate 11 makes the edge of the opening 19 catch the lower edge of the bush 3 and becomes thereby blocked in this position. The air-tightly installed hose end 4 of the bush 3 allows a correct process of collecting impurities inside the filtration receptacle 12 to start. Taking the filtration receptacle 12, filled with impurities, out of the impurities tank 1 causes the inlet opening 2 to be covered again by the diaphragm 9 which gets moved in its upper extreme position by action of the springs 14. This makes it impossible to install the hose end 4 in the bush 3 and renders the vacuuming process unfeasible. The filtration receptacle 6 can be in the form of a bag or a filtration box made of filtration paper or filtration cloth or it may be a cyclone filter or something like that.

1. A blocking device for an electric vacuum cleaner having an impurities tank (1) with an inlet opening (2) fitted with a bush (3) to tightly fix a hose end (4), and a filtration receptacle (12), placed in the impurities tank (1), fitted with a stiff plate (11) with an opening (19), which plate serves to fasten this receptacle on the inner end of the bush (3), characterized in that it has a diaphragm (9) which covers the inlet opening (2) of the impurities tank (1) to make it impossible to fix the hose end (4) in the inlet opening (2) if the filtration receptacle (12) is not installed inside the impurities tank (1) correctly.
2. The blocking device according to Claim 1 characterized in that it is inside the impurities tank (1).
3. The blocking device according to Claim 1 or 2 characterized in that it is has a cassette (5) fixed in the handles (6) of the impurities tank (1) in the vicinity of the inlet opening (2).
4. The blocking device according to Claim 3 characterized in that the cassette (5) is fixed in the handles (6) of the impurities tank (1) by means of the catches (7).
5. The blocking device according to Claim 3 or 4 characterized in that the cassette (5) has guides I (8) for the diaphragm (9) and guides Il (10) for the plate (11) of the filtration receptacle (12), the diaphragm (9) being placed slidable in the guides I (8).
6. The blocking device according to Claim 5 characterized in that the diaphragm (9) is sustained in the guides I (8) by the springs (14) in such a position that it covers the inlet opening (2) of the impurities tank (1) to make it impossible to fix the hose end (4) in the inlet opening (2).

The blocking device according to Claim 6 characterized in that the guides Il (10) of the plate (11) of the filtration receptacle (12) are situated parallel to the guides I (8) of the diaphragm (9), the gap between the guides Il (10) and the guides I (8) being well suited to the width of the plate (11).

The blocking device according to Claim 7 characterized in that the plate (11) of the filtration receptacle (12), which is pushed to the limit into the guides Il (10), moves the diaphragm (9), which in turn uncovers the inlet opening (2) making it possible to install the hose end (4) in the inlet opening
(2).
9. The blocking device according to Claim 7 characterized in that the plate (11) that is pushed to the limit into the guides Il (10) makes the opening edge (19) catch the edge of the bush (3) and becomes thereby blocked in this position.
