- the invention is based on the idea, in a generic method for coating a workpiece, to be able to tune the rigidity of the supernatant in a targeted manner to the desired surface course or the desired appearance.
- the invention provides that the core is removed such that in a generic method provided in the region of the supernatant portion of the core has a variable thickness, wherein the thickness is measured perpendicular to the extension of the supernatant.
- the overhang in areas of lesser thickness can adapt very well to the workpiece contour, while in areas of greater thickness it can produce a support function and a particularly smooth surface. Furthermore, areas of lesser thickness also serve as a glue reservoir in order to allow a uniform and conformal bonding of the supernatant with the core.
- the thickness of the portion of the core provided in the region of the projection is not particularly limited in the context of the present invention. According to the invention, however, it is provided that the core is removed in such a way that the surface layer is at least partially exposed. This results in a further improved deformation behavior of the supernatant and a particularly clean and defined bond area.
- the core is removed in such a way that the surface layer is at least partially exposed. This results in a further improved deformation behavior of the supernatant and a particularly clean and defined bond area.
- at least a portion of the surface layer is additionally removed in such a way that a glue reservoir is formed in the region of the minimum thickness of the supernatant (10). This procedure is particularly suitable for comparatively stiff surface layers, in which a targeted weakening of the surface layer contributes to a further improved deformation behavior of the entire supernatant.
- the supernatant is so pressed against the narrow surface of the workpiece to be coated, that it is curved at least in the region of a minimum thickness of the supernatant.
- the thickness of the portion of the core provided in the region of the supernatant is, as already mentioned, not particularly limited within the scope of the invention. However, it has proven to be advantageous to use the provided in the region of the supernatant portion of the core also for stabilizing the narrow surface of the workpiece, especially in lightweight panels, which have a lower density inside the core than on its outer sides. Against this background, according to a development of the invention, it is provided that the section of the core provided in the region of the supernatant has a greater maximum thickness than the surface layer.
- the inventive method is also advantageous for producing so-called workpieces with U-profile.
- the supernatant also extends to the opposite surface of the workpiece after being pressed against the narrow surface of the workpiece to be coated.
- the surface layer can be made in the context of the present invention on a variety of materials, and it has proven to be advantageous in view of a high durability and an attractive appearance, that the surface layer is a material which is selected from plastic, paper, metal and wood. In any case, it is particularly preferred that the surface layer has an artificial or natural decor.
- the core of the workpiece can also be configured in a very wide variety of ways and may consist, for example, of solid wood or various chip and fiber materials and any other materials. It is also possible that the core is designed as a one-piece or multi-layer lightweight board.
- the core has two cover layers and at least one intermediate layer arranged between the cover layers, which has a lower density than the cover layers.
- the cover layers and the intermediate layer can also be formed in one piece and have a dense gradient.
- Fig. 1 schematically shows two partial side views of a workpiece in the course of processing by means of the method according to the invention.
- the workpiece 1 is, for example, a chipboard core 4, which has a respective surface layer 8 on its opposite broad surfaces 6.
- both the core 4 and the surface layer 6 are not particularly limited in the present invention, although different solid and hollow plates have been found to be advantageous for the core, at least partially made of wood, wood materials, plastic or the like.
- materials are particularly suitable which are selected from plastic, paper, metal and wood, wherein the surface layer preferably has an artificial or natural decor.
- the surface layer and the core may, for example, be connected to one another by means of a laminating process.
- the original shape of the workpiece 1 is in Fig. 1 dashed lines and marked with "A".
- the core 4 is removed such that a projection 10 is formed, which is formed by a portion 8 'of the surface layer 8 and a portion 4' of the core 4 connected thereto.
- the supernatant is formed so as to have a minimum thickness at its free end and at its projection on the workpiece 1, while having a maximum thickness in its middle region. This is achieved by removing both the core 4 and a part of the surface layer 8 in the area of the minimum thickness of the overhang 10, while leaving a considerable part of the core 4 in the area of the maximum thickness. In this area, the core 4 has a greater thickness than the surface layer 8, so that it stabilizes the surface layer.
- the supernatant 10 is pressed against the narrow surface 2 of the workpiece to be coated, wherein previously the supernatant 10 and / or the narrow surface 2 was provided with a suitable adhesive (not shown). During the pressing, the projection 10 is curved in the region of its minimum thickness facing the workpiece 1, wherein the small thickness of the supernatant 10 in this area not only a slight, but also a well-defined curvature of the supernatant 10 allows.
- the free end of the protrusion 10 is flush with respect to the adjacent wide surface of the workpiece 4, for example by means of a suitable flush trimming unit to the in Fig. 1 to reach the state shown on the right.
- the manufacturing process is hereby completed.
- Fig. 2 An alternative embodiment to that with reference to Fig. 1 described method is in Fig. 2 shown.
- the workpiece is designed as a special lightweight board in which the core 4 has two cover layers 4 'and disposed between the cover layers intermediate layer 4''', which has a lower density than the cover layers 4 ''.
- the cover layers 4 ' may, for example, again be a chipboard material or the like, while advantageously a honeycomb material, lightweight foam or the like is used for the intermediate layer, although the invention is of course not limited to specific materials.
- the procedure of this alternative embodiment corresponds in principle to the Fig. 1 described procedure, wherein, as in Fig. 2 is to recognize right, the portion 4 'of the core in the region of the supernatant 10 is advantageously designed such that it protects the intermediate layer 4''in the region of the narrow surface 2 and stabilized.

- third embodiment is characterized in that the core 4 and the surface layer 8 are removed such that they each have two adjacent miter surfaces in the region of the supernatant. These facilitate the application of the supernatant 10 to the narrow surface 2 of the workpiece and ensure a well-defined formation of the workpiece corners, which results from an aneinaner concern of the miter surfaces 12 (see, right in Fig. 4 ).
- Fig. 5 a further embodiment, in which in each case a plurality of Gehrungs vomclame 12 are provided in the region of the later curvature. These are in the finished state of the workpiece (right in Fig. 5 ) again aneinaner and define so permanently and precisely a desired radius of curvature in the area of the workpiece corners.
- miter contact also between the supernatant 10 and the narrow surface 2.
- complementary miter surfaces 12 ' can be formed for this purpose, which allow for the application of the supernatant 10 to the narrow surface 2 a particularly stable and well-defined contact.
- curved contact surfaces 12 are provided to achieve both optically and technically optimal cornering properties.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a method for coating a workpiece in the region of a narrow surface, which enables the production of an edge with an appealing surface course and appearance in a simple process sequence.
This object is achieved by a method for coating a workpiece according to
Particularly preferred developments of the invention are specified in the dependent claims.
The invention is based on the idea, in a generic method for coating a workpiece, to be able to tune the rigidity of the supernatant in a targeted manner to the desired surface course or the desired appearance. For this purpose, the invention provides that the core is removed such that in a generic method provided in the region of the supernatant portion of the core has a variable thickness, wherein the thickness is measured perpendicular to the extension of the supernatant.
In this way, the overhang in areas of lesser thickness can adapt very well to the workpiece contour, while in areas of greater thickness it can produce a support function and a particularly smooth surface. Furthermore, areas of lesser thickness also serve as a glue reservoir in order to allow a uniform and conformal bonding of the supernatant with the core.
The thickness of the portion of the core provided in the region of the projection is not particularly limited in the context of the present invention. According to the invention, however, it is provided that the core is removed in such a way that the surface layer is at least partially exposed. This results in a further improved deformation behavior of the supernatant and a particularly clean and defined bond area. When removing the core, in order to define a region of minimum thickness of the supernatant, at least a portion of the surface layer is additionally removed in such a way that a glue reservoir is formed in the region of the minimum thickness of the supernatant (10). This procedure is particularly suitable for comparatively stiff surface layers, in which a targeted weakening of the surface layer contributes to a further improved deformation behavior of the entire supernatant. Furthermore, it is provided according to the invention that the supernatant is so pressed against the narrow surface of the workpiece to be coated, that it is curved at least in the region of a minimum thickness of the supernatant. As a result, the cross-sectional weakenings of the supernatant are used, whereby the procedure is simplified and the quality of the workpiece is improved.
The thickness of the portion of the core provided in the region of the supernatant is, as already mentioned, not particularly limited within the scope of the invention.
In addition, the inventive method is also advantageous for producing so-called workpieces with U-profile. Against this background, it is provided according to a development of the invention that the supernatant also extends to the opposite surface of the workpiece after being pressed against the narrow surface of the workpiece to be coated.
It is further provided according to a development of the invention that the supernatant after pressing on the narrow surface to be coated of the workpiece machined flush, in particular milled and / or cut. This results in a particularly uniform and smooth surface of the workpiece, which has not only optical but also technical advantages, such as a high durability and low susceptibility to soiling.
The surface layer can be made in the context of the present invention on a variety of materials, and it has proven to be advantageous in view of a high durability and an attractive appearance, that the surface layer is a material which is selected from plastic, paper, metal and wood. In any case, it is particularly preferred that the surface layer has an artificial or natural decor.
In the context of the present invention, the core of the workpiece can also be configured in a very wide variety of ways and may consist, for example, of solid wood or various chip and fiber materials and any other materials. It is also possible that the core is designed as a one-piece or multi-layer lightweight board. Thus, according to a development of the invention, it is provided that the core has two cover layers and at least one intermediate layer arranged between the cover layers, which has a lower density than the cover layers. The cover layers and the intermediate layer can also be formed in one piece and have a dense gradient. In particular, in this case, it is also possible within the scope of the invention to provide the supernatant provided for the narrow surface already during the production of the (lightweight) plate or without a separate milling operation, for example by the surface layer is carried out on a wide surface with a corresponding projection.
