Definitions

  • the invention relates to a method for producing a double-walled cup in which a sleeve-shaped outer casing made of a paper material is pushed axially onto a prefabricated inner cup and fastened, the sleeve-shaped outer casing being formed from a flat blank by connecting the ends of the blank before it is pushed on, and wherein the ends of the blank are connected by an adhesive applied in limited areas of the outer jacket.
  • a cold glue is applied as an adhesive in a limited area of a flat blank.
  • the ends of the blank are glued together to create a sleeve.
  • This sleeve is pushed onto a prefabricated inner cup as an outer jacket. Due to the stability of the sleeve-shaped, prefabricated outer jacket, an essentially ring-shaped air space can be formed between the outer jacket and the inner jacket of the cup, the outer jacket and inner jacket not touching one another along the air space.
  • the thickness of the essentially annular air space can be increased by a sudden expansion in the upper region of the inner jacket, so that the insulating effect of the cup is improved.
  • the outer jacket can be made from a very inexpensive paper material.
  • the blanks for the outer jacket can consist of a single-layer paper material without an additional plastic coating.
  • the paper material of which has a plastic coating on the side forming the interior the outer jacket does not come into contact with the liquid to be filled. An uncoated paper material is therefore sufficient to achieve the insulating effect of the double-walled cup.
  • gluing the ends of the blank with cold glue limits the operating speed of the manufacturing device, since the cold glue needs a relatively long time before it sets. The ends of the blank must therefore remain pressed together for a relatively long time so that the adhesive connection does not come off again immediately.
  • the processing of cold glue is time-consuming, since cold glue often has viscosity fluctuations that prevent precise dosing of the amount of glue applied. Excessive application of glue leads to contamination of the manufacturing machine, so that the machine often has to be shut down for cleaning.
  • EP 1 990 184 A1 describes an apparatus and a method for producing a double-walled cup.
  • a sleeve-shaped outer jacket and, on the other hand, an inner cup with a base are preformed and then the inner cup is inserted into the sleeve and connected to it.
  • the individual parts of the cup can be connected in different ways, connection being possible, for example, by heat sealing, gluing with hot or cold glue or also by so-called "hot-melt adhesives".
  • a double-walled cup is produced by inserting a prefabricated inner cup with a bottom into a prefabricated sleeve-shaped outer shell.
  • the outer jacket is made of paper material which is coated with heat-sealable plastic, with polyethylene, for example, being used as the heat-sealable plastic.
  • An inner cup is prefabricated from plastic and has a base, an essentially conical wall and a rim at its upper end.
  • the plastic cup is made in one piece.
  • the prefabricated inner cup is pushed into an outer cup made of paper material.
  • the outer cup has an outer casing and a base, the outer casing and the base being connected to one another by means of a circumferential frame.
  • the plastic inner cup is pushed so far into the outer paper cup until the bottom of the plastic cup rests on the bottom of the outer cup and at the same time the upper edge of the outer jacket is received within the rim of the inner cup.
  • adhesive is applied to a blank of the outer jacket in a limited area before the Blank is first formed into a sleeve and then connected to a floor by means of forming a frame.
  • a double-walled cup with an inner cup with a bottom and an insulating outer jacket is known.
  • the outer jacket consists of three layers of paper, with a middle layer being corrugated to provide insulating air gaps within the outer jacket.
  • the outer jacket is wound onto the finished inner cup.
  • the outer jacket is glued to the inner cup over a large area by means of a polyethylene coating on the outside of the inner cup.
  • a polyethylene coating is heated on the outside of the inner cup in order to hold the outer jacket over a large area on the inner cup.
  • the ends of the blank, which forms the outer jacket are connected to one another in the area of an overlap by means of a hot-melt adhesive when the outer jacket is wound onto the inner cup.
  • the invention is based on the object of an improved method for producing a double-walled cup.
  • thermoplastic material is used as the adhesive when connecting the ends of the blank to form a sleeve-shaped outer jacket.
  • thermoplastic material such as a hotmelt adhesive or a so-called hotmelt
  • a hotmelt adhesive can be applied very precisely with a defined viscosity in limited areas of the outer jacket and binds very quickly when the ends are pressed together. This allows the speed in the production of the double-walled cup to be increased significantly. In addition, the manufacturing machine not contaminated by imprecisely dosed adhesive, so that frequent cleaning work is not necessary.
  • the hot melt adhesive is applied in liquid form to limited areas of the blank before the ends of the blank are connected to form a sleeve-shaped outer jacket. The ends of the blank only need to be pressed together for a very short time in order to be glued securely and stably.
  • a sealing wax can also be used as the thermoplastic material.
  • the sealing wax can be applied to the flat blank in one of the actual manufacturing process for the double-walled cup or at least in one step prior to the shaping of the outer jacket.
  • the sealing wax can be applied to one end of the blank, for example in the form of a strip, before the blank is fed to the manufacturing machine for the double-walled cup.
  • the sealing wax can be applied in a printing machine, for example. The sealing wax is thus on the flat blank already solidified and does not hinder the feeding of the blank in the cup-making machine.
  • sealing wax before feeding the blanks for the outer jacket into the cup-making machine has the great advantage that the cup-making machine does not need any application devices or metering devices for adhesive. Any soiling of the cup making machine by glue can be effectively prevented.
  • the sealing wax can be applied very sparingly in limited areas of the outer jacket where it is needed for the connection.
  • the sleeve-shaped outer jacket can also be attached to the inner cup using a thermoplastic material as an adhesive. For this purpose, a strip of sealing wax can be applied along an arcuately curved edge of the blank.
  • sealing wax as a thermoplastic material for connecting the outer jacket is that devices for connecting the ends of the blank can be used in the cup manufacturing machine, as they are used in a similar manner to connect the inner jacket in the production of the inner cup.
  • the blanks for the outer jacket with the sealing wax printed on in the limited areas can in principle be processed in the same way as the blanks coated with polyethylene film for the inner cup.
  • Such sealing devices are known per se, so that a detailed description is dispensed with at this point.
  • the inner cup can be designed as desired. It can for example consist of a paper material.
  • the inner cup can also be a plastic cup.
  • Different configurations are also possible for the outer jacket.
  • the outer jacket can consist, for example, of a smooth paper material or also of a corrugated paper material.
  • thermoplastic material as an adhesive for the sleeve-shaped outer jacket is particularly advantageous when the inner cup has a sudden change in diameter in the form of a shoulder in the upper region of the inner jacket.
  • the sudden widening is located just below a lip roll of the inner cup, so that a narrow area remains between the widening and the lip roll for fastening the outer jacket.
  • This area for fastening the outer jacket is usually located above the level of the hot liquid to be poured into the cup.
  • Below the sudden change in diameter there is an essentially annular air space between the outer jacket and the inner jacket, along which the outer jacket and inner jacket do not touch.
  • connection point of the ends of the blank of the sleeve-shaped outer jacket running in the longitudinal axis of the cup is also spaced apart from the inner jacket in contact with the hot liquid by this air space. There is therefore no risk that the connections glued with thermoplastic material on the outer jacket will loosen again when hot liquid is poured into the double-walled cup.
  • EP 1 785 370 A1 describes the use of a hot melt adhesive for the temporary attachment of an outer jacket to an inner cup.
  • the outer jacket is not glued to form a sleeve, but wound directly around the jacket of the inner cup and glued there.
  • a cold glue is applied to the outer jacket in addition to the hot melt adhesive.
  • the disadvantages of using cold glue have already been described above.
  • the cold glue is used in the execution of the EP 1 785 370 A1 necessary because the connection established by the hot melt adhesive between the inner jacket and the outer jacket can loosen again when hot liquid is poured into the cup and there is a risk that the outer jacket will crack open due to the internal tension of the paper material and fall off the inner cup.
  • the double-walled cup 1 shown consists essentially of an inner cup 2 with a fillable interior 3 and an outer casing 4.
  • the fillable interior 3 of the inner cup 2 is formed by a conical inner casing 5 and a pot-shaped base 6.
  • the open side of the pot-shaped base 6 is arranged in such a way that it faces away from the filling opening of the cup 1.
  • the bottom 6 is connected with its wall in the area of the lesser circumference of the inner casing 5 in a liquid-tight manner to the latter by a frame 7.
  • the material of the inner jacket 5 is wrapped around the wall of the base 6 and folded inwards.
  • the inner casing 5 has on its upper edge, that is to say in the region of the larger circumference, an outwardly curled rim 8 which surrounds the filling opening.
  • the "conical” property of the inner jacket 5 is to be understood as meaning that the inner jacket 5 is in the in Figure 1
  • the longitudinal section shown tapers from the lip roll 8 to the bottom 6. It is unimportant what shape the inner jacket 5 has in cross section.
  • the inner jacket 5 can be, for example, circular, oval or also rectangular with rounded corners in cross section.
  • the inner cup has a shape similar to a truncated cone, while in the case of a rectangular cross section it has a shape that is more like a truncated pyramid.
  • the frame 7 can preferably have an outwardly projecting widening 9 at least in one area along its circumference.
  • the widening 9 can alternatively also extend only over a lower portion of the frame 7.
  • a lower edge of the widening 9 on the frame 7 forms a standing surface for the cup 1.
  • the cup stands on its standing surface, which is enlarged by the widening 9. This makes it difficult for the cup 1 to tip over.
  • the widening 9 is preferably designed to run around the circumference of the frame 7.
  • the frame 7 is a very important element of the cup 1.
  • the frame 7 is necessary for the connection between the inner jacket 5 and the bottom 6.
  • the material of the bottom 6 is with the material of the inner jacket 5 in the area of the frame 7 glued or sealed in order to be liquid-tight at least for a certain period of time.
  • the term “paper material” from which the base 6 and the inner jacket 5 are made can be understood to mean different materials which have at least one layer of paper, cardboard or cardboard.
  • the material can have one or more layers of plastic and / or aluminum.
  • the paper material is preferably on the side delimiting the interior space 3 with a thin plastic layer, preferably made of polyethylene, coated.
  • the formability and in particular the stretchability of such paper material is limited.
  • the paper material itself or the intended coating can tear, so that the tightness is impaired.
  • the frame 7 is therefore an essential design feature that cannot be dispensed with.
  • the inner casing 5 has an abrupt change in size in the form of a shoulder 10, which, viewed from the bottom 6 to the lip curl 8, presents itself as an abrupt cross-sectional expansion.
  • a contact surface 11 for the outer jacket 4 is located on the outer surface of the inner jacket 5 between the lip curl 8 and the shoulder 10.
  • a bead 12 can be formed in the inner jacket 5 as a means for stacking, on which the widening 9 of the frame 7 of a similar cup 1 to be inserted into the interior 3 is stacked. This prevents the stacked cups 1 from becoming wedged into one another.
  • the outer jacket 4 can be designed differently. Two possible designs of the outer shell 4 are in the Figures 3A and 3B shown. In Figure 3A a smooth outer jacket 4 can be seen, which surrounds the inner jacket 5 at a uniform distance. In Figure 3B a corrugated outer jacket 4 is shown. The essentially annular air space 13 thus has a varying width.
  • the areas of the outer jacket 4 that are closest to the inner jacket 5 still have a small distance from the inner jacket 5 or, alternatively, touch the inner jacket 5, so that the outer jacket 4 is supported on the inner cup 2 and the double-walled jacket is more stable Cup 1 is created.
  • an inner cup 2 prefabricated in a manner known per se is used.
  • This prefabricated inner cup 2 is connected to a sleeve-shaped outer jacket 4, so that a substantially ring-shaped air space 13 is formed between the outer jacket 4 and the inner jacket 5 of the cup 1, along which the outer jacket 4 and inner jacket 5 do not touch.
  • the widening 9 can be formed before or after the outer jacket 4 is pushed on.
  • the air space 13 has a good insulating effect, so that the double-walled cup 1 can easily be held in the hand even with a very hot liquid filled into the interior 3.
  • an inwardly directed curl 14 is provided with which the outer jacket 4 is supported on the inner cup 2.
  • the flat blank 15 shown is used.
  • the blank 15 has approximately the shape of a segment of a circular ring with two arcuate edges 16 and 17 and two straight ends 17 and 18.
  • the blank 15 for the outer jacket 4 consists of an uncoated paper material, since the outer jacket does not come into contact with the liquid to be filled when using the cup 1.
  • the double-walled cup 1 is usually used as a disposable cup for hot drinks and disposed of after a single use. The less plastic the cup 1 contains, the better the paper material can be recycled.
  • the blank 15 is wrapped around a conical mandrel and the end 18 is connected to the end 19 in an overlapping manner.
  • a thermoplastic material is applied as an adhesive to the end 18 in a limited area.
  • the limited area at the end 18 of the blank 15 in which the thermoplastic material is applied as an adhesive is shown in FIG Figure 2 characterized by the hatching provided with the reference number 20.
  • thermoplastic materials Two different thermoplastic materials are particularly suitable as adhesive for connecting the ends 18 and 19 of the blank 15 to form the sleeve-shaped outer jacket 4.
  • a hot melt adhesive can be used as the thermoplastic material. Before the ends 18 and 19 are connected, the hot-melt adhesive is applied to the limited area 20 of the blank 15 in liquid form.
  • a metering device can be provided which applies the hot melt adhesive to the blank 15 through a nozzle at a defined temperature. The end 19 is then placed over the area 20 at the end 18 and thus pressed. The hot melt adhesive cools down and the ends 18 and 19 are securely connected to one another within a very short time.
