Definitions
- the invention relates to a process for the preparation of a formulation containing calcium formate, the formulation itself, as well as its use for the preparation of an agent and its use as fertilizer.
- the element calcium is a macro nutrient for all plants. Therefore, calcium fertilizers are often used as a fertilizer in crop production, both in soil fertilization and foliar application. Foliar fertilization with calcium plays a decisive role in particular in some horticultural crops. Thus, for example, it is possible to suppress the phenomenon of sting formation in apple fruits. Due to this calcium deficiency disease, especially in the storage phase, large losses or a decrease in fruit quality occur. The late blight of tomato, cucumber and pepper can also be prevented by calcium leaf fertilization. Strawberries and other types of fruit show better fruit development.
- Calcium leaf fertilizers are generally used to improve the growth properties of vegetable crops. When calcium fertilizer is often used for soil fertilization with calcium (lime, calcium sulfate), readily water-soluble calcium salts must be used for foliar application. Frequently used are calcium chloride or calcium nitrate.
- Calcium formate which is free of the unwanted side effects described above, offers a distinct advantage. Calcium formate is soluble in water to a concentration of about 13.8%. It contains no potentially damaging chloride or nitrate ions. The formate is e.g. in apple fruits component of the soluble acids.
- JP 59-137384-A It is known from JP 59-137384-A to use calcium formate solutions as foliar fertilizers. JP 05-139872-A describes a synergistic effect in the application of solutions of calcium formate and calcium propionate as foliar fertilizers. It is known from EP 860 410 A, EP 934 917 A and EP 1 312 594 A that the absorption of nutrients such as, for example, calcium can be intensified by additives in foliar fertilizers.
- a disadvantage of the described calcium formate-containing foliar fertilizers is that they are present either in a form which is difficult to handle and which does not give uniform dosage in the case of Allow production of the spray solution or as aqueous solutions have a very high volume requirement, which prevents economical use in the field.
- formulations containing calcium formate, water and at least one thickener have, for example, a content of calcium formate of from 15 to 60% by weight, preferably from 30 to 50% by weight.
- formulations according to the invention have, for example, a content of thickener of from 0.05 to 2.5% by weight, preferably from 0.1 to 1.0% by weight.
- Suitable thickening agents are, for example, alginic acid, sodium aluminate, potassium alginate, ammonium alginate, calcium alginate, propylene glycol alginate, agar-agar, carrageenan,
- Gum welan gum, karaya gum, tara gum, gellan, starch.
- cellulose derivatives can be used such as cellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, cellulose powder,
- the formulation further contains one or more preservatives to prevent the biodegradation of the thickener at longer storage times.
- Preservatives which can be used are, for example, preservatives from the group of isothiazolinones, benzthiazolinones, formaldehyde releasers, or substances such as 2-bromo-2-nitro-1,3-propanediol (Bronopol), 2-phenylphenol (OPP), tetramethylthiuram disulfide, bis (dimethylthiocarbamoyl) disfulfide ( Thiram), ascorbic acid, propionic acid, sodium sorbate, potassium sorbate, calcium orbate, benzoic acid, sodium benzoate, potassium benzoate, calcium benzoate, ethyl p-hydroxybenzoate (PHBEster), sodium ethyl p-hydroxybenzoate (PHB-ethyl ester sodium salt), propyl-p- hydroxybenzoate (PHB propyl ester), sodium propyl p-hydroxybenzoate (PHB propyl ester sodium salt), methyl p
- the preferred concentration of the preservatives is usually less than 1.0% by weight.
- the formulation further contains one or more surfactants to increase the wetting of the sheet with the fertilizer and to prolong the water binding, which causes an increased capacity of the calcium formate.
- Suitable surfactants are, for example, sorbitol, sorbitol syrup, mannitol, glycerol, polyoxyethylene (40) stearate, polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate (polysorbate 20), polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate (polysorbate 80), polyoxyethylene sorbitan monopalmitate (polysorbate 40), polyoxyethylene sorbitan monostearate (polysorbate 60), polyoxyethylene sorbitan tristearate (polysorbate 65), ammonium saccharides, sucrose acetate isobutyrate, glycerol esters of rosin, sodium, potassium and calcium salts of fatty acids, magnesium salts of fatty acids, mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids , Acetic acid esters of mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids, lactic acid esters of mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids, citric acid esters of mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids, tarta
- Preferred surfactants are alcohol alkoxylates, more preferably 2-ethylhexanolpropylene ethylene glycol ether (CAS number 64366-70-7, product name emulsifier HOT 5902), optionally in combination with polypropylene glycol
- the surfactants are used in a concentration of 1 to 10 wt .-% in the formulation.
- Calcium formate reacts weakly in aqueous solution.
- the formulation further contains one or more acidifiers to adjust to a lower pH.
- Possible acidulants are organic or inorganic acids. For example, these are formic acid, acetic acid, lactic acid, boric acid, malic acid, fumaric acid.
- the formulation further contains one or more dispersing aids. This positively influences the stability and fluid dynamics of the calcium carbonate suspension.
- Alternate dispersants are for example salts of polyaspartic acid such as the sodium salt of polyaspartic acid (CAS number 181828-06-8, commercial name Bay ⁇ ure ® DS 100).
- the formulation further contains one or more trace element compounds, preferably those which are water soluble.
- Trace element compounds are, for example, compounds of boron, manganese, zinc, iron, copper, cobalt and molybdenum.
- the content of the trace element compounds in the formulation can be at least 0.010% by weight, for example at least 0.002% by weight for cobalt, at least 0.002% by weight for copper, at least 0.020% by weight for iron, and at manganese for example at least 0.010% by weight, for molybdenum, for example, at least 0.001% by weight, and for zinc, for example, at least 0.002% by weight.
- trace element compounds are those particularly useful in o.g. Concentrations are water-soluble.
- the preferred mass ratio of calcium to boron is calculated to be more than 40: 1, more preferably more than 100: 1, based on the elements.
- a combination of trace element compounds of boron, manganese and zinc is used. Calculated with respect to the elements, the preferred mass ratios are then in the range from 1: 0.3 to 1:30 for boron to manganese and in the range from 1: 0.5 to 1:50 for zinc to manganese.
- the trace element compounds may in a further embodiment be complexed by a chelating agent. This increases the availability of the trace element for foliar application.
- Suitable chelating agents for the trace element compounds are, for example, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA), ethylenediamine di- (o-hydroxyphenyl) acetic acid (EDDHA) 1 hydoxy-2-ethylenediaminetriacetic acid (HEEDTA), ethylenediamine di (o-hydroxy) p-methylphenyl) acetic acid (EDDHMA), ethylenediamine di- (5-carboxy-2-hydroxyphenyl) acetic acid (EDDCHA) and iminodisuccinic acid, or the sodium, potassium, ammonium salts of these acids,
- the formulation may contain additives that increase the overall performance.
- additives for increasing the overall performance are, for example, substances such as urea, ammonium thiosulfate, protein hydrolyzate, ligninsulfonic acid or lignosulfonates,
- the formulation is for example so that the ingredients are processed with the introduction of mixing energy.
- the formulation is usually and preferably obtained as a suspension.
- the formulation of the invention may then be diluted with water to an agent which may be used as a fertilizer, preferably as a foliar fertilizer.
