Definitions
- the present invention relates to electronic pianos and particularly relates to a foldable electronic piano having means for rendering the keyboard rigid.
- the piano is a musical instrument that has the particularity of being very bulky and impossible to carry by the pianist unlike the majority of instruments, such as stringed instruments, that the musician can easily carry as a simple luggage.
- a foldable piano keyboard and easily transportable is described in European Patent EP 0858649.
- the keyboard consists of several modules secured by a flexible membrane, each module reproducing part of the keys of a piano by a slight relief.
- This keyboard which has up to seven octaves represents the volume of a book when it is folded and constitutes a real piano when unfolded, however the object presented in this patent in no way describes means capable of stiffen the keyboard.
- the keyboard described above requires to be placed on a hard surface such as a table so as to constitute a rigid set with which the musician can play in the same way as it would with a real piano.
- the keyboard does not include means to make it rigid once the modules have been unfolded.
- the object of the invention is to provide a foldable and easily portable electronic piano
- US Patent 6,174,097 B1 essentially describes a computer keyboard having means for locking the different subsets of the keyboard but not to make it rigid.
- the object of the invention is therefore a portable foldable electronic piano composed of several modules consisting of a set of keys capable of reproducing the musical notes of a piano thanks to an associated electronics, in which the modules are joined together. by a flexible membrane resistant to hardening and allowing the folding and unfolding of the electronic piano, the modules once folded representing the volume of a book and constituting the keyboard of a real piano when unfolded.
- the piano further comprises means for "rigidification” (capable of rendering rigid) that can take two positions after the modules have been unfolded to form a keyboard, a first position allowing the folding of the keyboard and a second position ensuring the stiffening of the keyboard.
- the objects, objects and features of the invention will appear more clearly on reading the following description given with reference to the drawings in which: FIG. 1 represents the foldable piano according to the invention in the unfolding phase, FIG. the piano of FIG. 1 completely unfolded and ready to be used by the pianist, FIG. 3 is a section of the keyboard showing the support of the keys adapted to contain the stiffening device according to the invention, FIGS.
- FIGS. 4A and 4B respectively represent the dovetail female part of the key support and the male part dovetail adapted to slide in the female part
- FIGS. 5A and 5B respectively represent the foldable piano keyboard in which the male dovetail portion illustrated in FIG. 4B is in the position allowing the folding of the keyboard and in the position making the keyboard rigid
- Figures 6A and 6B schematically show two adjacent modules respectively in folded position and unfolded position in which a hook integral with a module is inserted into a recess of the other module.
- a foldable piano capable of incorporating the essential inventive characteristic of this invention, namely the stiffening means, is described in European Patent EP 085 8649.
- Such a piano is of course mainly consisting of a keyboard. As illustrated in Figure 1, it consists of 4 modules 10, 12, 14 and 16. But it could include more than 4 modules in that each module could have a smaller length. Note that the modules 12 and 16 have a black key more than the modules 10 and 14 and are therefore of greater length.
- the modules are joined together by a flexible membrane resistant to hardening such as a rubber or latex membrane.
- a flexible membrane resistant to hardening such as a rubber or latex membrane.
- the contacts used during the keystroke can be ink, capacitive, resistive or piezoelectric.
- the mere touch of a finger the keyboard does not cause soft, the sound being restored only when the key is hit.
- the variable mechanical energy causes a correlative current capable of generating a large number of shades.
- Each keystroke creates a signal that is transmitted to microprocessor-wired logic (not shown) in one of the modules.
- the electronics are powered by batteries or a mains plug via a transformer.
- the sounds to be reproduced are digitized sounds of a real piano stored in a memory. Note that the sounds can be reproduced thanks to a synthesizer which synthesizer can restore a multitude of sounds from other musical instruments.
- the set of keys consisting of white keys such as the key 18 and black keys such as the key 20 is placed on a support 22 of rigid plastic material.
- a latex layer 24 is located between the key 18 or 20 and the support 22 so as to damp the keystrokes.
- Keyboard support 22 has a hollow stem-shaped portion or structure 26 shown in FIG. Note that, as shown in this figure, the support 22 is actually formed of 4 support portions 22-1, 22-2, 22-3 and 22-4 independent and respectively corresponding to the modules 10, 12, 14 and 16 and of the same length as said modules.
- a male dovetail structure 28 is associated with the dovetail female structure 22 as shown in FIG. 4B.
- the rigid plastic structure 28 such as polycarbonate is adapted to fit and slide exactly in the female dovetail portion 26.
- the male portion 28 consists of 4 independent portions 28-1,. 28-2, 28-3 and 28-4 which respectively correspond to the 4 modules of the keyboard. Two adjacent portions are interconnected by flexible wires allowing the modules to be folded easily without destroying the connection between the portions.
- these wires are resilient so that the adjacent portions are in contact when the keyboard has been unfolded for use.
- the 4 portions of the male dovetail portion for stiffening do not have the same length.
- the portions 28-1, 28-2 and 28-3 have a length equal to that of the modules 10, 12, 14 or 16 respectively, but the portion 28-4 has a length less than that of the module 16. in the keyboard shown in FIG. 5 ⁇ , the portions 28-1, 28-2 and 28-3 are exactly superimposed on the modules 10, 12 and 14.
- connection (not shown) between the portions 28-1 and 28-2 is located at the location of the flexible membrane 30 connecting the modules 10 and 12
- the connection between the portions 2B-2 and 28-3 is located at the location of the flexible membrane 32 connecting the modules 12 and 14
- the connection between the portions 28-3 and 28-4 is located at the location of the flexible membrane 34 connecting the modules 14 and IS.
- a cord 36 easily gripped is secured to the end of the portion 26-1 of the stiffening structure, and a bead 38 also grippable is secured to the end of the portion 28-4. In this way, it is easy for the user wanting to fold his keyboard grasp the cord 36 to put the male stiffening structure in the position shown in Figure 5A.
- the male structure 28 does not protrude at each end of the keyboard either in the first position allowing folding or in the second position where the keyboard is made rigid.
- the keyboard has a number of modules other than four, for example n modules, the number of adjacent male structure portions whose length is equal to that of the corresponding modules will be equal to n-1, only the nth portion having a length less than that of the module.
- the left module for example the module 10
- the left module comprises one or two hooks such as the hook 40, placed on either side
- the hook 36 is introduced into a recess 42 of the module 12, which allows a perfect fit of the two modules.
- This ⁇ rochet-recess assembly also exists for the modules 12 and 14 as well as for the modules 14 and 16.
- the foldable piano according to the invention can have a pair of pedals that the user connects when he wants to use the piano.
- the right pedal performs the traditional function for all pianos, ie to extend the sound of the note or the group of notes that has been played.
- the left pedal can have the traditional function of attenuating the played note or even reproduce an innovative function which consists of amplifying the sound signal of the notes played, this application is useful in the case of use of a non dynamic keyboard.
- the two connected pedals each have a strain gauge sensor for example piezoresistive type, that is to say that the effect of pressure on such a sensor, causes a geometric deformation that varies the characteristics of 'a resistance.
- the pedal device described above communicates with the keyboard electronics via a very short wireless link.
