Definitions

  • the present invention concerns an improved composed jamb for windows, doors or the like.
  • the invention concerns a jamb of the type which is composed of at least two jambs made of metal, an inner jambs and an outer jamb respectively, which are connected to each other by means of one or several insulation jambs.
  • Such composed jambs are already known, whereby the insulation jambs are provided with a dovetail-shaped profiling along their longitudinal edges with which the insulation jambs are fixed in a groove formed of two ribs during the assembly of the composed jambs, which ribs, seen as a cross section, run towards each other in a slanting manner in the direction of their free ends.
  • the insulation jambs are thereby pushed in the grooves of the metal jambs with their profiled edges in the axial direction, after which, in order to clamp said edges in the grooves, one or both ribs are further folded back towards each other by means of plastic deformation.
  • a disadvantage of this known technique is that, in order to realize said plastic deformation, large lateral forces are required, as a result of which the metal jambs could deform as such in other places, such that additional reinforcements are required in these places, restricting the design possibilities.
  • Such means may be formed for example of moulds or the like which temporarily keep the metal jambs and insulation jambs in place in relation to each other during the setting phase.
  • a disadvantage of this type of composed jambs is that they have a relatively complicated shape, as a result of which the production costs of the composed parts may rise considerably and that, as they are snapped in, unwanted damages and/or deformations may occur.
  • the present invention aims to remedy one or several of the above-mentioned and other disadvantages.
  • the invention concerns a composed jamb of the above-mentioned type, whereby at least one insulation jamb is connected with at least one longitudinal edge to a metal jamb concerned by means of an insert joint with a female coupling element and a male coupling element which can work in conjunction with each other by pushing both parts elements one another in a direction crosswise to the longitudinal direction of the insulation jamb during the assembly, and in that these coupling elements are glued together, whereby the male coupling element is provided with straight walls with which the male coupling element is being held in the female coupling element in order to make sure that, during the assembly of the composed jamb, the coupling elements to be glued are kept in place in relation to each other while the glue is setting by means of a direct friction at the above-mentioned walls.
  • An advantage is that, during the assembly of the composed jamb, no operations are required for the plastic deformation of the metal jambs so that, at the design stage, there is no need either to reckon with local reinforcements in order to prevent unwanted local deformations resulting from the applied assembly technique.
  • Another advantage is that no space must be reserved for the manipulation of an assembly tool for the deformation of the metal jambs, resulting in more liberty for the designer of the jambs.
  • Another advantage is that the assembly and the components concerned are simpler and thus cheaper.
  • metal jambs and insulation jambs being mutually held by means of direct friction or clamping is that no moulds, snap-in systems or the like are required to realise means which make it possible to keep the coupling elements concerned to be connected in place, during the assembly of the composed jamb, after they have been glued in the groove concerned, while the glue is setting.
  • Another advantage during the assembly is that any possible assembly and tolerance errors can be easily rectified immediately, since the individual components are only being held together by means of friction, so that, consequently, these components can still be shifted in relation to each other while the glue is setting, which is impossible with the known devices whereby the components are snapped into each other.
  • the shape of the coupling elements is preferably such that the male coupling element can be easily guided in the female coupling element.
  • Means can preferably be provided to centre the male coupling elements in the female coupling elements.
  • the insulation jambs are preferably provided with a series of recesses and/or perforations.
  • An advantage is that, by spreading the glue, among others also in the recesses and/or perforations, a better bond is obtained between the metal jamb and the insulation jamb.
  • Figure 1 schematically represents a window 1 which is built of a fixed frame 2 and a rotating leaf 3 which are both built of composed jambs, of which only a section is represented in figure 2 , by way of example, of a composed jamb 4 of the fixed frame 2.
  • the jamb 4 is in this case composed of two parallel jambs made of aluminium or another metal, an inner jamb 5 and an outer jamb 6 respectively, which are connected to each other by means of two thermally insulating insulation jambs 7 made of a heat-insulating material, for example of plastic or a composite material.
  • grooves 10 for each insulation jamb 7 which, in this case but not necessarily, are situated opposite one another and in this case are each confined by two parallel ribs 11 which are provided crosswise on the above-mentioned walls 8 and 9 at a distance from each other, such that the side walls 12 of the grooves 10 directed towards each other are parallel, as seen in a cross section.
  • these ribs have a thickening 13 which is directed towards the inside of the groove 10.
  • the utmost longitudinal edges 14 of the insulation jambs 7 are finished in a straight manner with side walls 15 which are parallel to one another, as seen in a cross section.
  • An inner jamb 5 and an outer jamb 6 are placed opposite each other.
  • a layer of glue 16 for example on the bottom 17 of the groove 10, after which the insulation jambs 7 are pushed in the grooves 10 with their longitudinal edges 14 in a direction indicated by the arrow P, crosswise to the longitudinal direction of the insulation jamb 7.
  • the glue 16 will hereby spread over the bottom 17 and the side walls 12 of the ribs 11.
  • the dimensions of the far ends of the insulation jamb 7 and of the entrance of the groove between the above-mentioned thickenings 13 are adjusted in such a way that, when these insulation jambs 7 are pushed in the grooves with their longitudinal edges 14, said insulation jambs 7 will be secured in the grooves 10 thanks to a direct friction and/or a light clamping at the thickening 13.
  • the grooves 10 hereby serve as the female coupling elements 18 of an insert socket, while the edges 14 assume the function of a male coupling element 19 with which the insulation jamb 7 can be connected to a metal jamb 5-6.
  • the grooves 10 can also be formed as a deepened recess 20 in a wall 12 of a metal jamb 5-6 concerned or the like.
  • Figure 5 represents a variant of a composed jamb 4, whereby the bottom 17 has been provided with a deepened recess 20 and the layer of glue 16 has been applied in this recess 20 of the bottom 17, so that it can contain a sufficient amount of glue 16.
  • the layer of glue 16 can also be provided on the heads 21 of the insulation jambs 7 instead of in the grooves 10.
  • figure 5 further differs from that in the preceding figures in that the far ends of the ribs 22 have an outward folded part 23 so as to form a conical entrance 24 into the groove 10.
  • This conical entrance 24 makes it easier to put in the far ends of the insulation jambs 7.
  • Figure 6 represents another variant whereby, instead of several insulation jambs 7, a single hollow, tubular or U-shaped insulation jamb 7 has been applied, but whereby it is not excluded to apply also other jamb shapes, such as for example an I-shaped insulation jamb.
  • Figure 7 represents another variant of a composed jamb 4 according to the invention whereby the side walls 12 of the groove 10 directed towards each other, seen as a cross section, are not parallel to one another as in the preceding embodiments, but are tapered towards the bottom 19 of the groove 10 in this case, so that in this case also a better guiding of the insulation jamb 7 in the groove 10 is obtained.
  • the side walls 15 of an above-mentioned longitudinal edge 14 concerned forming the male coupling element 19 are tapered towards the tip of the male coupling element 19 in the latter embodiment, as seen in a cross section, instead of running parallel to each other.
  • the insulation jambs must not necessarily be made hollow.
  • Figure 8 represents another variant whereby the male part 18 is formed of a rib 25 of the metal jamb 5-6 in this case, whereas the female coupling element 18 is formed in that the edge 14 of the insulation jamb is made as a U-shaped profiled part 26 defining a groove 27 in which the rib 24 can be held and glued.
  • Figure 9 represents another variant whereby, in this case, the composed jamb is provided with means for centring the male coupling elements 19 in the female coupling elements 18.
  • these means are made as a V-shaped protrusion 28 on the bottom 17 of the groove 10 of the female coupling element 18 and a corresponding V-shaped recess 29 on the head 21 of the male coupling element 19.
  • Figure 10 represents an alternative embodiment whereby each insulation jamb 7 along the free edge 30, with which the insulation jamb 7 is clamped in the metal jamb 5-6, is provided with a series of recesses or perforations 31.
  • the recesses or perforations 31 are provided at mutual distances from each other at a short distance from the above-mentioned edge 30.
  • the perforations 31 may continue up to the edge 30 of the insulation jamb 7 via a narrower part 32.
  • the spread of the glue 16 will result in a secure bond between the metal jamb 5-6 and the insulation jamb 7, among others as the contact surface between the jambs and the glue is considerably larger and as the cured glue forms a sort of cross connection.
  • the solidity of the connection is not only calculated on the action of the glue, but also on the filling effect of the glue.
  • the glue 16 will form a continuous layer in the perforations 31 between both ribs 11 of the metal jamb 5-6, which also reinforces the connection between the jambs.
