An apparatus for longitudinally cleaving long timber (9), comprising a support (6) arranged in a shell-like manner for receiving the trunk (9) of the long timber in a substantially horizontally disposed way, and a cleaving wedge (4) which is moved radially into the trunk (9), characterized in that the cleaving wedge (4) is driven in the horizontal cleaving direction via a horizontally disposed hydraulic cylinder (3), and the support (6) is rotatably held about a vertical rotary axis relative to the hydraulic cylinder (3).
  2. An apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that the support (6) comprises a stop (7) on its side facing away from the cleaving wedge (4), with the stop (7) especially carrying a knife sheath (11) cooperating with the cleaving wedge (4).
  3. An apparatus according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the hydraulic cylinder (3) is arranged or supported horizontally on a vehicle frame.
  4. An apparatus according to claim 3, characterized in that a cylinder bearing (2) is provided for the hydraulic cylinder (3), with the wall of the cylinder bearing (2) being provided or arranged with a sliding material.
  5. An apparatus according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the radius of the support (6) corresponds to an average trunk radius.
  6. An apparatus according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the hydraulic cylinder (3) has a bypass valve for accelerating the opening process of the cleaving wedge (4).
  7. An apparatus according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the support (6) is height-adjustable for supporting the trunk (9), and is held in a height-adjustable manner especially hydraulically or mechanically.
  8. An apparatus according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the support (6) comprises an ejector member for the trunk (9) after the performed cleavage.
