Abstract
Description
- The present patent relates to the sector of furniture and in particular it concerns fitted kitchens and wardrobes.
- Both kitchen furniture and wardrobes usually comprise various panels that are properly arranged and assembled: floor panel, sides, back panel, top panel, and doors.
- Wider wardrobes are provided with further intermediate partitions suited to divided the internal space in compartments, each closed by one or two door panels.
- Complete modular elements are increasingly used for building kitchens and wardrobes, formed by floor panel, sides, top panel, and one or a pair of door panels, having predefined width, for example 45, 50 and 60 centimetres.
- The complete piece of furniture is obtained by placing two or more of said finished modular elements side by side and joining them together.
- The use of finished modular elements for building wardrobes or pieces of furniture in general allows mass production of said elements, thus cutting production costs.
- Fitted wardrobes are wardrobes that occupy the entire wall, that is, the distance between the two walls adjacent to the space occupied by the wardrobe itself, without leaving gaps between the sides and the walls.
- In modern or old houses, the walls where it is possible to position a fitted wardrobe or kitchen don't have a width suitable for fitting a piece of furniture made up of finished elements, unless frames or side fillers with suitable width are used. Said frames or side fillers, besides being uncapable of containing anything, negatively affect the appearance of the wardrobe or of the room as a whole.
- As a consequence of the above, fitted wardrobes are generally made to measure, which means that they are customised according to the actual dimensions of the wall.
- The production of fitted wardrobes to measure involves high costs for specialised labour, which furthermore isn't easy to find, and for the materials, due to the scraps that are inevitably generated when cutting the individual panels.
- In order to overcome all the drawbacks described above, a new type of modular system for building fitted wardrobes and/or kitchens has been studied and implemented.
- One of the objects of the new system with modular elements is to allow fitted furniture to be built with no need to use frames or side fillers.
- Another object of the new system with modular elements is to allow fitted furniture to be built using mass-produced modular elements.
- A further object of the new system with modular elements is to allow fitted furniture to be built with no need to adapt the width of any element.
- These and other direct and complementary objects are achieved by the new system with modular elements for building fitted wardrobes or kitchens comprising a series of finished modular elements having different widths.
- The widths of the finished modular elements are such that the combination of several modular elements of various widths makes it possible to cover the entire wall and to obtain a fitted piece of furniture.
- Said modular elements make it possible to build kitchen furniture and/or wardrobes in the desired widths, even with no need to occupy the entire wall.
- The door panels of said finished modular elements can in turn be composed of one or more staves with the same or different width that, once placed side by side and joined to each other according to suitable combinations, allow door panels to be obtained that are suitable for each finished modular element and a pleasant aesthetic result to be achieved. This makes it possible to obtain a series of door panels that are aesthetically similar to one another and that close modular elements having different dimensions.
- Each finished modular element comprises a floor panel, at least one side, a top panel, a back panel and one or two door panels.
- According to the invention, it is possible to provide the piece of furniture with shelves that can be applied between the two sides at the desired height.
- The system comprises sides that are standardised for the various finished modular elements of various width, which differ from one another owing to the floor panels and top panels in different widths.
- The widths of the floor panels and of the top panels are the following: 43.5 - 47.5 - 68.5 - 89.5 - 97.5 - 99.5 - 112.5 - 139.5 cm. The combination of various finished modular elements in the above mentioned sizes allows wardrobes of different widths to be obtained.
- The table below shows a possible series of combinations of modular elements to cover progressive widths with increases of approximately two centimetres. In this table the overall width of the wardrobe, that is, the figure on the left of each column, is obtained by adding the widths of the floor panels and top panels shown at the side, as well as the thickness of each side wall. In particular, the external side walls have a thickness of 2 cm, while the internal partitions included between the various modular elements have a thickness of approximately 2.5 cm.
- Said side walls may have different thicknesses, for example from 2 to 2.9 cm, depending on whether they comprise glass mirroring and/or depending on whether sliding or swing doors are used.
- For example, if one wishes or has to obtain a wardrobe having a total width of 295.5 cm, the following floor, top and back panels can be used: one measuring 97.5 cm, one measuring 89.5 cm and one measuring 99.5 cm plus two intermediate partitions measuring 2.5 cm and two sides measuring 2 cm. This solution is illustrated in Figure 1, which shows a cross section of a wardrobe consisting of three modules, while Figure 2 shows a front view of said wardrobe with three modules and twelve modular staves.
- If one wishes or has to obtain a wardrobe having a total width of 360.5 cm, the following floor, top and back panels can be used: one measuring 47.5 cm, one measuring 89.5 cm, one measuring 99.5 cm and one measuring 112.5 cm plus three intermediate partitions measuring 2.5 cm and two sides measuring 2 cm.
- The same total width can be obtained also using the following floor, top and back panels: two measuring 68.5 cm, one measuring 99.5 cm and one measuring 112.5 cm. It is preferable that the staves that make up the swing door panels of said finished modular elements be 21, 23, 25, 27, 46, 50, 71 cm wide, while for a wardrobe with sliding doors they should be 21, 23, 25, 27, 46, 50, 71, 73, 94, 102, 104, 117 cm wide. Using staves in said widths it is possible to create door panels that are suitable for the width of the finished modular elements described above.
- For example, to obtain a swing door panel for a finished modular element measuring 93.5 cm, that is, a floor panel with a top panel and a back panel measuring 89.5 cm plus two sides, it is possible to use two identical staves measuring 46 cm or a 71 cm stave together with a 21 cm stave. For the same finished modular element it is possible to obtain two swing door panels, each composed of one 46 cm stave or of two 23 cm staves. To make sliding door panels, single panels are used which are 73, 94, 102, 104, 117 cm wide. When building a wardrobe, using the finished modular elements and the door panels with staves as described above allows a wardrobe of the desired width to be obtained.
- This system of finished modular elements makes it possible to obtain fitted wardrobes that occupy the entire wall, less one or two centimetres.
- This system of finished modular elements also makes it possible to obtain wardrobes of the desired width.
- The door panels of the finished modular elements consist of one or more staves that can be symmetrical or asymmetrical.
- Using staves of different width to make the door panels of the finished modular elements in different widths, it is possible to modify the optical effect of asymmetry and difference between the parts making up the wardrobe.
- This system can be successfully used also if the wardrobe is fitted on a wall where the space available for the wardrobe is delimited by an orthogonal wall on one side and by a door on the other side.
- The invention described herein can be used in particular for bedroom wardrobes, closets, cloakrooms, offices, archives, and for kitchen furniture, sitting rooms, libraries, studios, playrooms, ecc.
- Therefore, with reference to the above description and the attached drawing, the following claims are expressed.
