Auf eine eher komplizierte Formgebung des Haarverbindungselementes kann deshalb verzichtet werden, da für das Schmelzkleben in jedem Fall ein Applikator mit Heizeinrichtung erforderlich ist, der das Haarverbindungselement aufzunehmen hat. In das thermoplastische Haarverbindungselement 1, 7 oder 9 werden in einem ersten Arbeitsgang im schmelzflüssigen bzw. pastösen Zustand in Längsausdehnungsrichtung, dh parallel zu den Längsseiten 2 die Enden von Ersatzhaaren 11 eingebettet. Die so erhaltenen, an einem Ende durch das thermoplastische Haarverbindungselement 1, 7 oder 9 gebündelten Ersatzhaarsträhnen werden bei der Applikation am menschlichen Kopf in einer Heizpinzette odgl. aufgenommen, worauf der Endbereich einer Eigenhaarsträhne 12 auf die profilierte freie Oberfläche 5 gelegt wird. Durch Erwärmen und Zusammendrücken des Haarverbindungselementes 1, 7 oder 9 werden auch die Enden der Eigenhaare 12 in ihm eingebettet, wodurch das Fremdhaar 11 mit dem Eigenhaar 12 verbunden wird. Die Profilierung 6, 8 oder 10a, 10b der Oberfläche 5 in Relation zur Lage der Eigenhaarsträhne 11 bewirkt beim Heißquetschen des Haarverbindungselementes 1, 7 oder 9, dass die Eigenhaare 11 vom thermoplastischen Binder gut ummantelt werden. Als Material für das Haarverbindungselement 1, 7 oder 9 kommen im wesentlichen alle thermoplastischen Materialien in Frage, deren Schmelz- bzw. Erweichungspunkt nicht zu niedrig liegt, damit beim gewöhnlichen Waschen des Kopfes keine Ablösung auftritt. Als Größenordnung für ein erfindungsgemäßes Haarverbindungselement kommt eine Längsausdehnung von ca. 4-10 mm, eine Querausdehnung von ca. 2-5 mm eine Basisdicke von ca. 1 mm und eine Profilhöhe von ca. 1-4 mm in Frage.In the thermoplastic
