Abstract
A terminal unit for heating or cooling systems characterised in that it comprises two series-connected exchanger packs (1; 2) served by a single circuit (3) which may supply alternatively a hot liquid for heating or a cold liquid for cooling the surrounding room.
Description
TERMINAL UNIT OF HEATING OR COOLING SYSTEM
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to devices for heating or cooling interiors by means of radiators, convectors, fan coils and combinations thereof and which are traditionally used to heat rooms during the cold season and cool the same rooms during the summer season. International reference class: F24h.
PRIOR ART
The technological apparatus presently used to exchange heat with an indoor environment traditionally include:
• conventional cast-iron, aluminium or steel radiators;
• convectors composed of finned pack heat exchangers installed in specially designed cabinets that favour the circulation of air in the heated room;
• fan coils composed of finned pack heat exchangers in which the circulation of heated air is achieved by means of a fan installed in the cabinet containing the heat exchanger.
All three types of exchanger devices rely on the circulation of a hot fluid which releases heat into the room. Recently, chiller units have been widely used to produce cold water, which is circulated through the pipes of fan coils to remove heat from the room and thereby obtaining ventilated cooling during the summer season.
Cooling fan coils can work with a hot circulating fluid, in place of a cold one, so that they can also be used for winter heating.
The problem to be solved is to develop a single terminal unit capable of satisfying different room thermal load requirements both when the fan is on and off.
The device of the present invention provides an optimal solution with the application of two series-connected finned packs supplied by a single circuit that may carry, alternatively, a hot liquid for heating or a cold liquid for cooling the surrounding room. Furthermore, the device in question features a solution that permits heating through both natural and forced convection, whereby convection heating and fan cooling may be obtained from a single unit.
DESCRIPTION
The innovative concept underlying the present invention will now be explained with reference to the figures in the appended drawings, intended as non- restrictive examples.
Figure 1 shows the device in the operating configuration for daytime winter heating, with the fan (4) on and hot water circulating through the heat exchange circuit (3).
Figure 2 shows the device in the operating configuration for convection with the fan (4) off. It may be noted that opening the front panel (5) will cause air to be circulated inside the room by means of natural convection. Figure 3 illustrates the device in the summertime cooling configuration with the circulation of cold air in the heat exchange circuit (3) and the fan (4) on. It may be noted that ambient air is blown by the fan (4) across both finned packs (2; 1).
In the figures each individual part is marked as follows:
1 indicates a first finned pack.
2 Indicates a second finned pack.
3 Indicates the circuit for the circulation of the heat exchange fluid.
4 Indicates a fan with multiple speed settings.
5 Indicates a panel that may be opened to allow natural heat convection with the fan off.
The various operating configurations schematically illustrated in the drawings demonstrate the extreme functional simplicity of the present invention as well as the ease of its practical realisation.
The innovative features of the present invention may naturally be realised using technological solutions geared toward the demands of an evolving market. It is evident, in fact, that the dimensions and structural proportions of the various components used to construct the device of the present invention will be susceptible to different technological choices, depending on market requirements and the different installation requirements. Therefore, the scope of protection of the present patent shall extend to all exchanger devices for heating or cooling that display the essential characteristics of the present invention as described herein and any embodiments thereof which may be derived, without any inventive effort, from the present description, appended drawings and specifications of the claims below.
