Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to a control device for flush tank drain valves.
- As is known, devices for draining walled-in flush tanks comprise a rocking control plate inside a frame fixed to the bathroom wall; and a tie connected by levers to both the control plate and a drain valve for draining the flush tank. More specifically, when the user presses the control plate, the tie is moved towards the control plate, and raises the drain valve by means of a square lever. The tie is normally defined by a screw, which engages a nut screw, in turn hinged to the square lever connected to the drain valve.
- Devices of the above type are fairly versatile structurally, by adapting to different depths of the tank inside the wall. More specifically, this is done by changing the position of the square lever with respect to the wall by rotating the screw defining the tie, and so moving the nut screw along the screw.
- Though effective in adapting the device, the above method is not altogether straightforward. In fact, rotating the screw may at times prove a long, painstaking job, in the event of the screw and nut screw threads crossing.
- It is an object of the present invention to provide a drain valve control device designed to provide a straightforward, low-cost solution to the problems of the known art.
- According to the present invention, there is provided a control device for flush tank drain valves, comprising a control member, a tie, a first lever system connecting said tie to said control member, a second lever system connecting said tie to a drain valve, and a connecting bush engaged in rotary manner by said tie and hinged to said second lever system; said control device being characterized in that said tie comprises a flat longitudinal portion, and a number of fastening members located at and on the opposite side to the flat longitudinal portion; and said connecting bush comprises a lateral wall facing said tie and having a longitudinal fastening sector engageable by said number of fastening members; said tie and said connecting bush being set in a slide position, when said flat longitudinal portion faces said longitudinal fastening sector, and being set in a lock position, when said flat longitudinal portion faces the opposite way to said longitudinal fastening sector.
- A non-limiting embodiment of the invention will be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
- Figure 1 shows a lateral section of a preferred embodiment of the device according to the present invention;
- Figure 2 shows a view in perspective of a tie forming part of the Figure 1 device;
- Figure 3 shows a view in perspective of a connecting ring forming part of the Figure 1 device;
- Figure 4 shows a view in perspective of a connecting bush forming part of the Figure 1 device;
- Figure 5 shows a lateral section of connection of the Figure 1 device tie and connecting bush in a slide position;
- Figure 6 shows a lateral section of connection of the Figure 1 device tie and connecting bush in a lock position.
- Number 1 in Figure 1 indicates as a whole the flush tank drain valve control device according to the present invention.
- Device 1 comprises a manual control member 2 defined, in the example shown, by a push plate pivoting inside a
frame 3 fixed in known manner to awall 4; atie 5 defined by ascrew 6; alever 7 for transmitting motion from push plate 2 totie 5; and asquare lever 8 for transmitting motion fromtie 5 to a known flush tank drain valve not described for the sake of simplicity. -
Lever 7 comprises twocentre pins 9 extending on opposite sides and hinging it to twoappendixes 10 offrame 3; afirst end 7a hinged to a connectingring 11, which is engaged byscrew 6 and rests on ahead 6a ofscrew 6; and a roundedsecond end 7b resting on aninner appendix 12 of push plate 2. -
Square lever 8 is hinged by its mid-portion 13 to a fixedpin 14, and comprises afirst end 8a hinged to tie 5; and asecond end 8b, in which is formed aslot 15 engaged by arod 16 connected to the drain valve. More specifically,first end 8a ofsquare lever 8 is hinged to a connectingbush 17 engaged byscrew 6. - As shown in Figure 2,
screw 6 definingtie 5 comprises saidhead 6a, in which is formed aslot 18 for a screwdriver; and ashank 19, in turn comprising a threadedportion 20, and anon-threaded portion 19a located adjacent tohead 6a and engagingring 11. Threadedportion 20 has a flatlongitudinal portion 21 extending along the whole of threadedportion 20; and non-threadedportion 19a has alongitudinal fastening rib 22 aligned with flatlongitudinal portion 21. - As shown in Figure 3,
ring 11 comprises twopins 23 extending on opposite sides and engaged byfirst end 7a oflever 7; and aninner wall 24, in which are formed two diametricallyopposite recesses 25 engaged alternatively by fasteningrib 22. - As shown in Figure 4, connecting
bush 17 is defined by a substantially parallelepiped-shaped structure 26, which comprises twolateral pins 27 extending on opposite sides and engaged, in use, byfirst end 8a ofsquare lever 8. A substantiallycylindrical seat 28 is formed instructure 26, is engaged byscrew 6, and is defined by twoannular end portions 29, and by a lateral, e.g. semicircular,wall 30 extending between the twoannular end portions 29.Lateral wall 30 being semicircular,seat 28 has two opposite end openings formed in the twoannular end portions 29, and onelateral opening 31. Seat 28 also has a projecting threadedlongitudinal sector 32 projecting radially inwards fromlateral wall 30, so that connectingbush 17 defines a nut screw engaged byscrew 6. - Threaded
portion 20 defines fastening members which cooperate with threadedlongitudinal sector 32, which therefore defines a longitudinal fastening sector. - Flat
longitudinal portion 21 ofscrew 6 and threadedlongitudinal sector 32 of connectingbush 17 enable troublefree position adjustment and locking of connectingbush 17 alongtie 5. - More specifically, as shown in Figure 5, when
screw 6 is positioned with flatlongitudinal portion 21 facing threadedlongitudinal sector 32 of connectingbush 17, device 1 is set in a slide position permitting relative slide betweenscrew 6 and connectingbush 17. And conversely, as shown in Figure 6, whenscrew 6 is positioned with the thread of threadedportion 20 engaging threadedlongitudinal sector 32 of connectingbush 17, device 1 is set in a lockposition locking screw 6 and connectingbush 17 to each other. - In the slide position and lock position,
screw 6 is prevented from rotating by fasteningrib 22 alternatively engaging one of the tworecesses 25 inring 11. - In actual use, in the slide position (Figure 5), connecting
bush 17 is slid alongscrew 6 into the correct position betweensquare lever 8 and push plate 2; at which point,screw 6 is rotated, possibly using a screwdriver, into the lock position (Figure 6) in which the thread ofscrew 6 engages the thread of threadedlongitudinal sector 32 of connectingbush 17. Rotation ofscrew 6 into the lock position releases fasteningrib 22 from the slide-position recess 25, and engages it inside the lock-position recess 25. - As will be clear from the above description, in device 1 according to the present invention, the screw-nut screw coupling defined by tie 5 (screw) and connecting bush 17 (nut screw) provides for fast, easy adjustment of the parts (
tie 5 and connecting bush 17) to adapt to different requirements. - Finally, threaded
longitudinal sector 32 and threadedportion 20 may be replaced by other types of fastening members, such as projecting transverse ribs, ontie 5, engaging respective grooves insideseat 28.
